Shanghai Theatre Academy (上海戏剧学院) is a public university in Shanghai, People's Republic of China dedicated for dramatic art education. This school established in 1945 and focus on threater training and culture studies. In the past 50 years, the Academy has improved and developed the methods in terms of pratical training and theoretical education. The main course in this school is about drama and film.[1]The school has excellent equipment and beautiful environment. In literary terms, it has excellent performance and effectiveness. The school located in Huashan road which has complete equipments. The school library collects many famous theatrical books and journals, and the student apartment provides a good living condition to students. Its predecessor is Shanghai Municipal Experimental Theatre School founded by famious educator 顾毓琇 et al. Its alumnae include the actresses Li Bingbing, Fan Bingbing and Zhang Yuqi, and the actors Tong Dawei and Lu Yi. The school will face more challenges in the future education.

History[edit]

Shanghai Theatre Academy established on December 1st, 1949, by the famous educator 顾毓琇 , famous dramatists Li Jianwu 李建吾、Gu zhongyi 顾仲彝、Huang zuolin 黄佐临 etc. Fauci Hsiung 熊佛西 is the first president. It's predecessor is the Shanghai municipal experimental Theatre school.

In October 1949, Shanghai municipal experimental theatre school was renamed the Shanghai municipal theatre college.

In 1952, due to the adjustment of departments in universities, Drama department in Art Department of Shandong University, Drama group of Shanghai Xingzhi art school was merged. Shanghai municipal theatre college was formally established and renamed the East Branch of Central Academy of Drama.

In 2007, Theater and Chinese Traditional Opera became national key disciplines. [2]

School Motto[edit]

In my opinion, the goal of the personal training, first of all should pay attention to edify the personality of students. In this way, each youth will has a sound personality, to become a dignified person, who loves people, loves country, distinguishes right and wrong, and has the sentiment. Then, he can become a great artist. Therefore, the school training system, not only is the specialized knowledge and skills to students of drama, but also is more important to train them how to behave.(Fauci Hsiung 熊佛西) [4]

Students in Shanghai Theatre Academy have abilities of writing play and performance.Throughout history, The school received many honorary certificates. [5]
Achchievements and Rewards
In 2010, Beijing Opera Si Shui Wei Lan won the National Outstanding Drama.
In 2010, the drama Moment is not Forever won the Chinese Campus Drama Awards.

In 1992, Lady White Snake and Shared Kitchen participated in the Singapore National Art Festival.
In 1994, Da Ping Guan was written and performed by students and faculty and was invited to the Alice Alternative Theater festival in Tokyo. [6]
