The Show About the Show is an American television comedy docuseries created by filmmaker Caveh Zamedi. The series, executive produced by Zamedi and Aziz Isham was originally released by BRIC Arts Media.

Premise[edit]

Caveh Zahedi has always wanted to make a television show, but it's never quite worked out before. He convinces a Brooklyn non-profit Arts organization to finance a television show whose premise is that every episode will be about the making of the previous episode.

Production[edit]

John Wilson explained to Variety about his process of making the show

"I try to draft very rough scripts of what might happen in an episode, and then we give it to production and put a plan in action to shoot it — and every single script is rewritten from the ground up by the time we're done in the edit. So much of the rewriting has to happen in the edit, because we're now writing to these shots that we never could have predicted that we would have, and they're always so much better than the stuff that we roughly conceived."[4]

Giants Being Lonely is a 2019 drama film directed by Grear Patterson and cowritten by Patterson and Sam Stillman. The film explores the rise of a Wayuu man and his family as they enter the drug trade, prosper, and slowly lose their traditions and former way of life.

It was selected to open the 50th edition of the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.[1][2] It was selected as the Colombian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards,[3][4] making the December shortlist.[5]

Plot[edit]

In the late 1960s Zaida (Natalia Reyes), a young Wayuu woman, comes of age. She meets Rapayet (José Acosta) who proposes to marry her. Zaida comes from the influential Pushaina family and her mother, Ursula, sets her dowry high.

Rapayet comes across white American Peace Corps volunteers desperate for marijuana. Rapayet and his friend Moisés go to Rapayet's cousin, Gabriel, who grows marijuana. Impressed by their product, one of the Americans offers Rapayet a business deal exporting the drugs. With the money from the trade Rapayet is able to pay Zaida's dowry in full, though Ursula disapproves of his dealings with foreigners.
