Jan Stanford Doward (October 19, 1925 - February 7, 2016) was a well-known author, filmmaker, and ordained minister in the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Biography[edit]

Doward was born in Seattle, Washington, the son of Orton and Ruth Peregrine Doward. He was drafted into the United States Army in February 1944, and served until April 1946. During his time in the army, he joined the Seventh-day Adventist Church and became a conscientious objector.

After his discharge from the military, Doward earned a B.A. in History from Walla Walla College in 1950. Later, he earned a M.A. in Church History from Andrews University in 1969. He served as a teacher and principal for 20 years in Washington and California. He also served 10 years as an assistant youth director for the SDA General Conference.

On January 22, 1946, he married Loneva Thomas. They remained married until his death sixty years later. They had two daughters, Melody and Daphne.

Doward authored 14 books and produced several films.
