Can you confirm?

Hi! I just contributed a few lines to the two dollar bill page, which is, unfortunately, only speculation. I've never been to Las Vegas, so I don't know how accurate the info is, and I wonder if you might know better, since you live there. (The question is whether or not "gentlemen's clubs" tend to give out two dollar bills as change) Anyway, if you happen to know off the top of your head, or know someone else who might, I'd be curious to know. LV WPers

Yes, I live in Vegas, I suppose that a club could be set up. Don't know how much interest there is. Maybe it could be used as a way to get some people interested in adding material to some of the pages. I know I have created a lot of pointers and almost empty pages, but I keep running in to other pages that need fixing. And then I created a reasonably complete Red Rock Casino page and had it recommended for deletion almost as soon as it was created. Talk about frustrating!

Don't let it get to you. Usually we consider things that are "coming soon" not, in general, to be proper subject materials for articles; this generally constitutes things like "Ashleigh Simpson's upcoming album", "the next episode in Final Fantasy", or "The 2012 Elections". This is because such articles are generally either completely speculative, based on rumors, or press releases. Red Rock Station (isn't that it's real name?) could be reasonably thought to be in that category, as can Wynn Las Vegas; you'll note that the VfD on Wynn was shouted down immediately, and the Red Rock VfD is going to fail as well. Don't take any of this personally. Yes, I understand that. Now. The Crystal Ball clearly talks about publishing and not structures. I'm thinking about a VfD for the Metropolitan page since that seems to be serving no purpose since it was created. I have also been moving things off the Vegas page that clearly, to me anyway, belong on another page like the Clark County one or the airport. I also just raised a question about where the MGM fire should be talked about. Kind of odd since it has its own page. The correct name for the red rock casino is "Red Rock Resort Spa and Casino" according to the stations web page.Vegaswikian 00:03, 20 Mar 2005 (UTC)

One thing I've noticed is that it works better for new people to edit content within the existing framework of articles for awhile, then branch out into reorganization projects later; gives you a chance to get familiar with what logic there is. A lot of the organization has been painfully hammered out over the years, and it's become all too easy to step on someone's toes. Casino categories

Hi there! The point of categories is to be as concise as possible and minimize the amount of overlap in overbroad categories. The point is not to 'hide' casinos in Nevada but to ensure that the casinos that aren't enough to warrant their own Casinos-by-state category to stand out. If we don't try to limit the scope of things then the categorization scheme can get out of control. For a good example, note how all cars are categorized by manufacturer, and not included under the Automobile category. Hope this clears it up. Regards --Hooperbloob 08:02, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)

International airports category

I noticed you added a new category, International Airports. With ~800 airports in WP and a large faction are int, the we have about 400 airports to that category. It is much too broad in my opinion. Please reconsider. Burgundavia 08:06, Apr 6, 2005 (UTC)

• The category was set up as a part of International Airport I just finished creating it. In the US, the vast majority of airports are not international. Europe likely has a higher percentage. Commerical airports probably make up less then 10% of all airports and International airports are a subset of that number. The issue with what's in WP right now is that it is biased towards the larger airports which are more likely to be international. As more airpots are added, the international ones will be a smaller subset of the total. In my state, I belive 2 out of 30+ airports are international. If you think this is really a bad idea, delete the entry in international airport and then the category itself. Vegaswikian 08:16, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

El Rancho Vegas

Yikes! I know you know that we know that now we're confused. Anyhow, don't added things like:

"...the Las Vegas Strip in 1946 or on April 3, 1941."
and
"I found two dates for when the hotel opened, anyone know which is correct?"

to the article page. You'll cause an uproar!

So, do you put the question on the talk page? How many people actually look there? The sources I had showed two different dates. I have an e-mail in to the MGM trying to find out the correct number of rooms. Geting facts is not a trival task it seems. (As I understand it; [I actually read more from metawiki than wikipedia]) The talk page should be used for all statements that can't be verified as factual with an outside source, opinions, comments, trivia, stories, questions, concerns.... all talk page items. You can watch talk pages too. A source that I can't offer for validation, a friend of mine that works front desk at the MGM Grand, tells me: "5,034 rooms, but only publicly claims 5,005" When asked why, he didn't know. Another friend (worked as an actor in EFX from pening to closing of it) says the same thing. No one can figure out why only 5,005 are claimed. I have heard it has to do with a continued interest in combining some rooms (planed since conversion to MGM from Marina) in the Emerald tower due to size, but structural issues make it costly. So they continue with the old room count. (Nothin' worse than throwing egg in your own face eh?

Offering constructive criticism now (Don't hurt me! I'm not good at this). Your amount of content additions are wonderful! I feel I should steal you to work LVwiki. Anyhow, you add, I follow and stylize, and reword (pretty good at this, as I read the dictionary for fun as a kid, several times). Some helpful things to remember: (link to subsections)

1. Header: Capitalisation
2. Header: Links within headings
3. Linking: Internal links (I need to remember this too)
4. Linking: Position in article
5. For example, ... UGH! I think this is just a petpeev, but I feel better about saying so!

Hi! The "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" article seems to have been a C&P from another site. No can do...that's a copyright violation. OTOH, I agree that an article about that sign is long overdue. It's a true LV landmark. In fact, I always make it a point to enter town from the south end of the strip because I dig that sign as well. Disney Theme Parks

Hi, Vegaswikian. I'm going to have to ask you not to add the Category:Amusement parks category to Disney theme park articles. Disney parks are theme parks, and therefore, go under Category:Theme parks, and also Category:Disney parks and attractions. Disney parks may be regarded as amusement parks by some, but theme parks are themed amusement parks, featuring "lands." Disney also claims Disney parks to be theme parks, and Walt Disney had even said that Disneyland (then the only Disney park) was not an amusement park, but a theme park, a new term he coined (although theme parks existed then, they were called amusement parks). Hmm. Interesting. Indeed, that redirect didn't work until I fixed it just now; it looked its broken-ness was an artifact of the parentheses being rendered improperly as %28 and %29. (This edit fixed it.) I thought at first perhaps this was an artifact of the way that parentheses were rendered, but some links, like Trempealeau (village), WI work just fine, while others (like Trempealeau (town), WI) had the same problem. I really am not sure what it is. But I'm not overly concerne; these redirects exist for the primary purpose of aiding searching and preventing people from creating duplicate articles at the article name with the postal abbreviation, for someone to stumble into one of the redirects with broken parentheses is incredibly unlikley, and the vast vast majority of the redirects (the important ones) are just fine. New Mexico Governors

You seem to be adding the clean-up thing to many of the stub biographies for New Mexico Governors I created. Since I put the bio-stub thing in all of them, do you really think that's necessary? I didn't write them as full biographies because it's hard to find information of some of those folks. I merely created small stub biographies so that NM Governors would have footnotes, at least. I noticed you tried to add a TOC to Category:Wikipedia articles of dubious importance and failed. The problem was that you used the wrong template. There are two TOC templates specific to categories. Music Notability

Sorry to add articles about minor bands if they're not important enough for Wikipedia; most of them certainly don't come anywhere near meeting the Notability and Music Guidelines. But I would still like to see more articles about college bands on Wikipedia. It really helps to give a better feel for the music scene of an area or university. Maybe this group and other groups whose writeups I've created aren't "notable" in and of themselves, but small discussions of their music really humanize the writeup for the university that they are students of. If you're going by the letter of the law, this writeup probably should be deleted, but please leave me a message before you do so. - McCart42 15:00, 2005 Apr 26 (UTC)

Importance tags

You seem to be fairly new, so perhaps you're not aware that opinions differ -- quite fiercely sometimes -- over the importance of schools. Many of your edits, it seems, involve adding tags to articles suggesting they are not important enough for Wikipedia, including many to school articles. You mark these edits as minor (is it switched on as your default, I wonder). But this is not a minor edit by any stretch of the imagination. Please stop adding these tags to articles that are a focus of contention. You're entitled to your opinion but I don't think this is an appropriate way to express it. Also, perhaps you would consider actually cleaning up some of the articles you come across? It's easy to sit on the newpages and club them, a lot harder to be constructive. Do you ever contact the editors of articles that you tag? Where they are named editors, it would be courteous to discuss with them the problem you feel the article has. I appreciate that you are working towards your idea of what Wikipedia should be, and I don't have a problem with that, so I hope you'll accept this message in the spirit it was given. To follow up on what Grace Note said, please stop tagging articles en masse with {{cleanup-importance}} as it is both disruptive and unnecessary. For example, you tagged Brisbane Girls Grammar School, effectively marking it "of dubious importance". This was irresponsible because if you looked at the article you would have noticed this school was one of only eight schools established under the Australian Grammar Schools Act of 1860.

Another article you dubiously tagged was Venice High School. If you would have performed a simple google search you would have known that this school produced several notable actors including Beau Bridges, Lloyd Bridges, Myrna Loy, as well as R&B performer Teena Marie and the NASA astronaut Walter Cunningham.

If you feel that a school article needs expansion, please consider improving the article yourself, or you may use the appropriate stub tag, {{school-stub}}, and someone from WikiProject Schools will provide for its organic growth in due time.

Lastly, please do not mark your edits as minor as your changes are not. The minor mark is reserved for something very small such as punctuation, capitalisation or typo corrections. When creating wikilinks, there are a few tricks! Plural (-s -es), tense related (-ed -ing) or alternative endings can simply be placed at the end of the wikicode, like this:

• Shortcut: [[ Computer ]]s = Computers
• Shortcut: [[ Computer ]]ized = Computerized
• Shortcut: [[ Print ]]ed = Printed
• Shortcut: [[ Print ]]ing = Printing

(Disambiguation) links can be tiresome to type, let Wikipedia do the hard work! Just stop at the pipe, and the (disambiguation) portion will not be displayed within the article.

Is the Village Pump an encyclopedic article? No, it's a place for discussion! The Page I created was an alternative to the cluttered Village Pump, and had you let it live instead of blindly deleting it, maybe it would become a page that blocked users would have the ability to edit, to state their case if they have one. But, instead you put it up for deletion, killing it. Thanks a lot, fucker(sorry for the strong language, but I get so mad about vandalism on wikipedia, and my proposal would allow stronger punishment for people with malicious intent.). About schools

You said "Earlier today someone started posting a bunch of schools because they claimed that all schools are now acceptable". Are they substubs? Can you point me to one or two of them? Also I'll buy the criterion "a complete info box and the school district and town links should work", at least for US schools, maybe we could make a {{cleanup-school}} tag to make sure that happens. I tried to find the school articles that I mentioned, but I could not. I believe that they used {{Wrongtitle}} since the No, for number, was not in the title. It was suppose to be 'N' followed by an 'o' with an underscore. I think the format of the titles was School nnn. I don't recall if they were marked as any kind of stub.

I think your idea of a tag like {{cleanup-school}} is a good idea. It avoids the Vfd and repeated discussion. The question is what criteria needs to be meet to remove the tag? I think what I suggested is objective so it is easy to see if the school meets the criteria or not. I'm not sure any of the other suggestions really would end the discussion. If this tag is added, the issue would be to refine the criteria as needed. As a new user with limited experience, I'm not the one to create and start using that tag. If it was available and the criteria to be meet for removal were published I would use it for articles that did not meet the criteria.

Maybe text similar to that used in {{music-importance}}, maybe even including the criteria in the warning box, could be used. Vegaswikian 07:52, 16 May 2005 (UTC)

• Unlike bands, publicly certified schools almost all have some degree of notability, so the criteria should be about the article, not the school. Something like "formatted/spellchecked, infobox (if available), BEEFSTEW H" (... does the article make a serious effort to establish the school's notability and describe some distinct things about it that distinguish it from other schools?). OK H is somewhat subjective but it would end the vast majority of discussions. Kappa 08:14, 16 May 2005 (UTC)

• How about something like:

This article about a school does not appear to meet a minimum criteria for a school article. At a minimum, the article should use wiki links to the parent school district and the town it is located in. It should also include the apporpiate formatted/spellchecked, infobox and make a serious effort to establish notability. A [[BEEFSTEW}} score of at least 7 should be the minimum for an article. If you can expand the article to include the relevant information, please do so and then remove this notice afterwards. If no expansion or explanation is provided, this page may be merged into the school distric page, if one exists, or nominated for deletion.

Thanks for the reply. I'll put together an example table - probably on Excalibur (just because I started that here already as an example so why not continue?). While I understand why you say that "hotel information should be kept separate from casino info" as there are a number of casinos that do not have hotels associated with them and vice-versa, when people visit various hotels/casinos they are as interested in the major amenities each resort has (rooms, pools, shows) as they are with the gaming areas. For casinos that do not have hotels/shows/pools, then it is just as easy to say "N/A" for those selections as an indicator that those places do not have those features (Harrah's New Orleans or Slots O Fun(?) being the first ones off the top of my head to not have hotels on-premises.

"Test match"

I note that you changed my disambig page for Test match. The reason it was decided to do that is that, although there are other uses than for cricket, every single link to Test match [1] is cricket related. That being so, we (ie WikiProject Cricket) felt use of the {{redirect}} template, as used in several other articles for much the same reason, was justified. I haven't changed it back, though. Buckingham Browne & Nichols

Hey vegas, I've seen you around a few other places, and I wanted to say thanks for what looks like a lot of work you've done. And while I'm grateful for some of the changes you've made to article Buckingham Browne & Nichols [2], I'm not sure that linking to two non-existant schools (that merged and became the title school), would be such a great idea. I was wondering however, isn't that against some of the ideals of wikiproject:schools? I would believe they would only serve as mirrors to the BB&N article, which, at the moment, is still a very small stub. Avi

I reverted the changes you made to Avi. My main reason for doing this is that because you copied and pasted the content from the old page at "Avi" to the new page at "Edward Irving Wortis", you disconnected the content from it's edit history. Normally if you are going to move content wholesale like this, it is better to use the "Move this page" option, which also moves the edit history. My other reason for moving the content back is that if you look at all the pages that link to "Avi", they are all talking about the children's author. But you weren't doing a merge. You were taking the entire content from one page and pasting it into another page, replacing a redirect. The correct policy if you want to move a page to a new title, when a page already exists at the target title, is to post a request on an admin page somewhere.

And I'll admit right off, I've never heard of "Avi" or "Edward Irving Wortis". However looking at the covers of his books, all the ones I've seen use "Avi". Try doing a search on Amazon for books by "Edward Irving Wortis", zero results. Let me say that again, ZERO results. However a search on Avi results in a big long list of children's books. On the subject of just copying and pasting... from the actual move page... "please do not just copy and paste the contents (doing that destroys the page's edit history)." Seems pretty clear to me.

The article itself says the author is "better known" by his pen name. All the links that currently point at the article, are all referencing the author, no-one else. The article should be named based on the standard of what do people think the thing/person/object is called. As far as I can tell, the guy is more commonly known as "Avi". I don't understand what point you are trying to make by pointing to this... "Use the most common name of a person or thing that does not conflict with the names of other people or things." Airline Amendments

Hi Vegaswickian. I,m the one who has been entering Code Data and Services etc in American airlines and guess why? - because it is consistent with the hundreds and hundreds of other airline entries for other countries. I also entered a lot of the destination lists and can accept their removal, but don't see why wholesale reversions had to be made to remove perfectly sound and reasonable changes, which tidied up articles that badly needed it. I have been working for a very, very long time to get some badly needed consistency into airline articles across the world. • I totally agree that "wiping out changes that were standardizing, or had standardized, the data in a way different then yours is counter productive", however, your apparent standardisation and template (from your airline project??) runs counter to that in hundreds of other airline articles from all over the world (which seems to be an actual standard in practice). By the way the corporate ownership piece was not removed, but simply inserted in a more appropriate and logical place in the article. Furthermore airlines provide services (both scheduled and charter) to destinations - airline services is a commonplace way of describing this in the aviation industry (it is also in standard use throughout the rest of the world's airline articles). Worldperks

Actually the TfD vote was to use the already existing Category and not to create a list. In any case, the list you created is not a list, but rather the description of the program that should be placed at Worldperks, currently a redirect because of the loot it had created. Could you cut and past the other articles data there? A move would not work since the target is exists. Then your new list can be speedy deleted by your request. Follow up to your American Pop Culture comment

Thank you for the tip! I realized I needed to make that change, had started to go back to fix the edits. I was about half way through, when I went back to the American Pop Culture category and saw it was listed for deletion! Do you have any insight on this? I saw there's quite a list of categories for deletion, but that seems pretty frustrating. Well, I came across one of the casino articles and thought the text that was displayed at the bottom ("this template has been blanked...") looked bizarre, not to mention stupid. So I re-added it the original template, because that looks better on the 30+ articles in question, and it's also informative to TFD voters without them having to root through the template history. I don't want to sound like a grumpy bastard here, but I get pissed off when I make what I think is a helpful, non-controversial bit of housekeeping and somebody posts "why, oh why, oh why..." on my talk page.

Regarding US Airways

Since the airline are now operating as one brand/entity I decided to merge the pages. I am aware that they are operating under different FAA certificates, hence the Operated By in the fleet section. Airline 23:50, 27 September 2005 (UTC)

HP does offer some point-to-point flights out of SAN and LAX, but the vast majority of the flights have been cut recently or will be in the next month. Additionally, HP does not consider them to be focus cities, which is what I think matters in the end. All of the statements from the company have just referred to the 9 focus cities/hubs post-merger (CLT, PHL, PHX, PIT, LAS, DCA, LGA, BOS, FLL) RingMaruf 19:34, 28 September 2005 (UTC)

• Try the America West timetable, for one. Go to americawest.com to download it. Look at the schedules for LAX and SAN, and you'll see that most of the point-to-point destinations are being discontinued. Template:Lists of airports by ICAO code

Hi. I've gone through the ICAO page and all the ICAO codes that went to disambiguation pages now go direct to the airport. The ones that go through redirects I've left alone. There were five blue links for ICAO's that didn't lead to airports. I created 3 more articles for the airports. The other two were for heliports. As heliports change quite often I didn't create articles for them but listed them in the format "heliport name|ICAO code".

I was puzzled though at first over the List of airports in Canada. After a few minutes though I figured it out. When you wrote "nav aid" you didn't mean it in an airport sense but as in a Wekipedia sense. I should have had my morning coffee before I started editing. They include listings of redlinks which are looking for articles, and, in some cases, listings by watershed, which categories cannot handle. Please undo your vandalism. • • My problem is that you have deleted articles from their relevant category. The List of Alabama rivers is quite different from the Category:Alabama rivers as a cursory glance would suggest. The list belongs the Alabama Rivers cateogry and the Rivers of the United States category. Perhaps an explanation of the difference would be appropriate for the Category:Rivers of the United States (i.e., something along the lines that the lists are in the process of expansion and contain listings of articles which have not yet been written, including those for rivers which flow across multiple states, and, in some cases, listings by watershed, for which a single "United States" listing has not yet been constructed), but those articles should not be deleted from this category. There is a WikiProject Rivers that you might wish to join if you have further interest in this area. And why did you not leave a message on the category's talk page before pursuing this task?
    • I understand the normal convention... but in this case, wherein the "categories" component covers about a tenth of what is covered in the "list" component, I think it is worthwhile to maintain easier accessibility to a theoretical user who is looking for information about a particular river, and that the "Category:Alabama rivers" and "List of Alabama rivers" should exist side-by-side for now, in the same category. It's a tricky area to cover, since watersheds of rivers stretch across political boundaries, and there is some difficulty in naming: is an article about an Elk River which flows through Oklahoma and Missouri named "Elk River (Missouri)" or "Elk River (Oklahoma)"? And what if there are two rivers in the same state with the same name, and what if that river flows across a political boundary, so that there is a "Spring River" which flows through Missouri, Kansas, and Oklahoma and a "Spring River" which flows through Missouri and Arkansas (as is the case)? Radio callsigns

Hi there...we can double check with the Radio Stations Project if you'd like, but I believe that sorting radio stations by the second letter of their callsign is only supposed to be done in categories where every radio station has the same first letter. If the category is a mix of C, K, W and V stations, then it has to be sorted by the first letter. (I'm raising this specifically in regards to VOCM-FM, because it doesn't fit into any category in which all the stations begin with V.) Bearcat 22:48, 19 October 2005 (UTC)

Hi! Hope this is a good way to reach you, Vegaswikian? I am a complete newbie, so please pardon if my approach is all wrong. Thanks for cleaning out the non-encyclopedaeic material in the "touch pad" article. In response to your suggestion for re-write, I wrote what I hope is appropriate material about Cirque and it's role inventing the touch pads presently used on note book PCs. I've cited references and tried hard to maintain an NPOV. For now, I put it on the Cirque Corporation "discussion" page, because I don't understand the appropriate process, don't know how to add links and such, the format might use tweaking, and anyway thought someone like yourself should look it over first. Hello, I just moved some of the material about male prostitution that you added to Prostitution in Nevada to the Talk page. Some of it I integrated into the existing discussion of Heidi Fleiss's business, but the rest seemed to be general speculation about male prostitution that didn't relate to Nevada. Categories for deletion

Hi, You requested a number of categories for tv channels be renamed and added the template to those categories. Please note that the template assumes a standard way of adding the information to Wikipedia:Categories for deletion and if you do not do this then the link to the discussion breaks. I very nearly reverted your change due to lack of discussion.

I understand, and indeed support your reasoning for concatenating them together at Wikipedia:Categories for deletion/Log/2005 December 20#Category:Television stations sub-cats, but may I suggest that, as a courtesy, you link to this on the talk page for the category, or preferably, create the section and add a link on to the correct section, in order to prevent people reaching the wrong place and having to search – MrWeeble Talk Brit tv 11:19, 21 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi Vegaswikian, I just wanted to let you know that Poster Financial Group is not defunct, It is still a fully functioning corporation. Let me explain how the Landry's acquistion of the Golden Nugget was executed, First Landry's formed a wholly owned subsidary called Landry's Gaming to aquire the assets of Poster Financial Group which owns the gaming licenses of GNLV, Inc. (d/b/a Golden Nugget Las Vegas) and GNL, Inc. (d/b/a Golden Nugget Laughlin) and following the completion of the merger Poster Financial in turn became a wholly owned subsidary of Landry Gaming. Landry's Gaming does not own any of the gaming licenses (Poster does) but they were required to be investigated and found suitable as a holding company of a gaming licensee (again Poster). Civil Air Patrol Categorization

May I ask why you removed Category:United States Air Force from the article on Civil Air Patrol? Since CAP is the USAF's official auxiliary, wouldn't it make sense for the CAP article to be in the USAF category? Grant 23:44, 22 December 2005 (UTC)
