Although I think the subject of the article is unencyclopedic (in any form whatever), here's a suggestion: Rather than do work that will likely be deleted by the AFD, you may wish to wait until the article is deleted, and then start over with a new article. 1951 Las Vegas pictures in need of a home

Judging from your username as well as your contributions, you might be just the person to talk to... I've been archiving family photos recently and discovered several interesting black and white pictures taken in Las Vegas in (most likely) 1951. These are of the Westerner Gambling House and Saloon, the Silver Slipper Saloon (apparently the original that prevented the later Silver Slipper from initially using that name), the Vegas Vic sign atop the Pioneer Club, and an oversized covered wagon emblazoned on its side with "ON TO THE GOLD RUSH" (I'm unsure if this last one was a landmark of any kind). Beyond the obvious History of Las Vegas, any suggestions as to where these might be appropriately placed? I am unfamiliar with the city both as a place and as a topic. Casino Stubs

You don't think Harrah's Las Vegas is a stub? It does not list barely any history, nothing about the attractions. Plus no picture; Harrah's is major casino and it deserves more information. I work for Harrah's Entertainment so I will expand it, but it will take time and I would like to keep it as a stub until it is done justice. I did propose a similar stub already in the stub sorting no one said anything so I created this. If the stub sorting project has a problem with it they will do something. • Well there are a lot of pages out there that are not stubs that are marked then. Because what most people follow is not only the wording you quoted but also, "Another way to define a stub is an article so incomplete that an editor who knows little or nothing about the topic could improve its content after a superficial internet search or a few minutes in a reference library." This article could be improved by just going to Harrah's website. North American airline stubs

It was part of an attempt to get the * airline stubs categories to agree on using either <noun> airline stubs or <adjective> airline stubs. It looks like whoever ended the inconclusive discussion didn't bother to remove the sfd-c tags from the categories. I would say at this point hold off on the abbreviation expansion discussion until we can determine if there are objections to his recat, even though I noticed that all of the subcats are still marked with their CFR templates by you. All he did was upmerge the by state to Members of the US House of Representatives. Category renames for Members of the United States House of Representatives

Thank you very much for all your hard work on catching the U.S. vs. United States names in categories. Please be sure that no category becomes "United States Representative from foo" when it should be "Member of the United States House of Representatives from foo".

• For example, Dennis Hastert is not a "United States Representative." He is a "Member of the United States House of Representatives."
• On the other hand, Rob Portman is a "United States Representative" because he represents the United States in Trade negotiations. (Just to make things a little more confusing, Portman used to be a Member of the United States House of Representatives from Ohio.)

Speedy deletion

An interesting side note as to proper naming for some categories related to Parks and Wilderness areas is ongoing at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Protected areas, Standard format for protected area category names. I suggest that all protected areas by designated worldwide by the title of the protected area folled by "of" and then the name of the country. Likewise, for subcategories, eg: National Forests of Montana Before we speedy the wilderness category, lets all work on trying to identify what is the best naming system. AirTran Airways

Agree it may not be written in the best way. However, technicalities aside, they changed their name after the crash because of the PR disaster, so we should find a way to reflect that. The article has been massaged to make it sound like a name change after a regular merger whereas the news coverage and executives at the time presented it clearly as the opposite -- a name change facilitated by a merger. Sure, the ones I added seem to have redirects already or have entries in disambig pages. (Except SS which redirects to the Nazi terror group), the disambig is at SS (disambiguation)). [1] is a good source if you want to find missing ones. Select airline code and then in the lower set of boxes enter a letter or number. Using the historic codes there it shows Air Horizon was asigned 8C so maybe someone got confused. 03:04, 22 February 2006 (UTC-5)

I have PROD'D the article in the time being, but if you have a chance maybe look at it (it was rewritten a little) and the plea in the creators edit summary made me prod instead of re speeding it for being a recreation of a deleted article. I see you deleted the Julius Lester article while I was creating it. I've put it back now -- with content! -- but just so you know, WikiProject Biography's instructions for creating a new biography are explicitly to Add {{subst:Biography}} into your article page and save, and edit from there. So if you see a new template and don't give it an hour or two, that's probably what's happening. Now, admittedly that initial work could happen in a user space sandbox, but I was following the instructions of the Wikiproject in charge of the name space. RE: OMGWTFPOLARBEAR

The article/redirect should have been speedy-deleted initially. It is a vanity/fan-made neologism, which is specifically contrary to "Avoid neologisms". Further the consensus of the actual editors on Lost (TV series) is that the material was not appropriate there; all mention of "OMGWTFPOLARBEAR" has been removed-- there is no "merged" content to be redirected towards (nor will there ever be.) The article is the only contribution from a one-day user. None of those who voted on the AfD had ever edited any of the LOST articles, nor were any of the regular editors aware of the AfD-- thus the single day of voting on that AfD did not demonstrate any actual consensus.       • So it was a stub about a ghost story... That isn't necessarily a reason to speedy it, is it? You categorised it as "nonsense" but I'm not sure I agree with that categorisation being friendly or accurate. If the story is sourced enough (and I do find some other hits for it via Google: [4]) it's (possibly) notable as a story (just like this user's other contribution might be), regardless of the existance of ghosts. There is a Category:Weird NJ as you may or may not know. (note I do NOT believe in ghosts and have little interest in them myself but can see why notorious enough legends are notable enough for inclusion here...) Speedy versus PROD

You were, I think, correct to change my tag from speedy, for which change I thank you. I suppose I concluded that since non-notable bios can be speedied (although I prefer to take them to AfD), so might non-notable building pages; this, though, as you noted, was more an advertising page. In any case, your change reminded me to use the PROD tag more often; I like the ideas behind its creation and I should do what I can to support its continued presence and expanded use. Robber Barons prod

I am removing the prod pending discussion. The band's album can be bought from a number of major vendors, and the band itself will soon release a second album. Granted, the now-defunct article Rockefeller and the Robber Barons was NN, but The Robber Barons (band) have been reviewed in at least one publication (Earwax), which means that one magazine however small felt they were notable enough to present to their readers. Taken with the fact that vendors like tower records feel like the album is notable enough to keep in its inventory, I think this band is significant enough to merit a wikipedia stub. I'm sorry that I didn't write enough about Bob Olson to make it into a good article. I saw that the page had been requested for over a year, and I attempted to begin fulfilling that request by writing what I could find. Please note that, according to the deletion log page and request page, my stub was the closest to the request's notes. I would also like to make it known that I am not a newcomer to Wikipedia. I have been around Wikipedia longer than my account has been, and I have much more experience than the average user. Vegas Metro (Harry Reid)

I'm not trying to argue, so I hope it doesn't sound like it. According to the Las Vegas metropolitan area, Boulder City is usually considered part of the metro area. The article on Michael Kight was not covered under Article 7 of the Speedy Deletion Critera, as Mr. Kight holds the important position of Principal of A.H. Hill Middle School. Additionally, you deleted the article a mere hour after the speedy deletion tag was added; as stated in the speedy deletion critera, "The word "speedy" in this context refers to the quickness of the decision making process and not the length of time elapsed since article creation." Well, its true: I made a mistake, the article doesn't belong on Wikipedia, and Wikipedia users made that clear on the AfD page. However, in the democratic spirit of Wikipedia, that is the proper way to remove an article -- disussing it in a civil manner and voting. In my opinion, your simply deleting it -- wether justified or not -- was too rash an action. Normally, except for the fact that I included the {{hangon}} tag, and, while writing the response, the entire article was deleted. When you deleted the article, you stated that "no reason provided for keeping article. Clearly meets A7" whereas I included the {{hangon}} tag, which tells you that a reason is comming. How does the article look now? For the record, the closing admin should look at the current article and the one that was there for the delete votes. Th reasons used for many of the early votes are, in my opinion, no longer valid. My guess is that in doing this, the result will be keep or at worst no consensus which results in keping the article. I guess you're right. It shouldn't be valid any longer because the article has been improved. I wish that IP user didn't ruin so many of the things I made this way. You can maybe ask ESkog to close it with a no consensus, or vote to keep it somehow. Usually, the closing admins are different than the opening ones. • that is completely false - there was a picture there, not to mention if you did the proper research (or just clicked what links here) you would see that hea is very notable and the article for a disease named after him is actually a featured article. don't be rediculous. and yes i made similar pages and was in the middle of doing a redirect. speedy deletion is meant to be an efficient way of monitering new article production and not hindering of the production of new articles.

Nicolas Augustin Metoyer

If I may ask, what made you decide to delete the article for Nicolas Metoyer? I know it was just a stub, but I don't think it merited deletion. I'm only a little curious as to why you didn't feel it was necessary to at least tag the article or initiate a discussion about it. Metoyer may be non-notable to you, but he was a prominent figure in the developement of a self-sufficient colored community in Louisiana. I will admit that Louisiana history is a bit of a specific interest, but simply because you are not familiar with it does not give you the right to remove it from an encyclopedia. You may want to look at Marie Thérèse Metoyer, his mother, as well, but would you be kind enough not to delete that article (if you, as i suspect, believe it to be lacking in merit) until you have given those of us who care an opportunity to argue our case?Dlayiga 18:05, 17 April 2006 (UTC-4)

I have noticed that you deleted the page J. H. Brennan, as soon as I created it, even though I noted in my edit summery that there was more to come. I find this kind of over zealous deletion hinders Wikipedia and simply wastes time. If you had taken a moment to view my user page you would have found that I am a long time member of the community here and would not add something without consideration. Beyond this a simple search for JH Brennan on Google reveals that he has written more than fifty books including both fiction and non-fiction, which have been translated into as many languages and have been very influential. This is clearly notable. I am simply in a position now where I will have to start the page again, but I now have a deletion against my history. Airline destinations

I'd say it's ready enough. A couple small countries are still missing but I think the geographic arrangement is correct. The only question is whether to go in alphabetic order for continents or geographic from northwest to southeast. I remember the geographic order caused some issues with a few people. I also just realized we never decided what to do with the Azores. They're currently listed under Africa, although they're closer to Europe. One user pointed out that the Canary Islands should be with mainland Spain, since they are a province with the same political status as anywhere on the mainland. I agree, since that would be consistent with listing Hawaii with the US. However, Madeira and the Azores are territories, so to be consistent, they should be listed where they are geographically located. Hi. Concerning your edit summary to reinsert this person in the List of Las Vegans article: if that's the case, then we need to do something about Mitnick's entry on Wikipedia. When I went over there to verify his relation to Las Vegas, I found no information that would link him to the city appropriately. The two times Vegas is cited in the article, it's in reference to Mitnick giving speeches in events in Vegas, with no suggestion that he lives there — as a matter of fact, one of the references suggests the exact opposite, as it says (...)while in Vegas for a conference (...). Are you positive about Mitnick's residence in Vegas, or is our article wrong/incomplete? Hi again. I only removed him because our article about him, which is no stub, made no reference to him living in Vegas, and, as I said, seemed to suggest the opposite (see the quote above). I would favor a clean up in the "non-natives" section, though. It seems that a lot of people are being included just because they once performed in Vegas, or had a business there. This is odd, Vegaswikian. I notice that debate over the category was closed by you. You note that there was no clear consensus. I have a few questions. First of all, I've read that Wikipedia "is not a democracy" and that consensus is not determined by a straight vote. Therefore there is some subjectivity in these decisions. I'm curious what the guidelines are for this decision. I assume you are an admin of some variety. What guidelines do you use for determining a.) when there is no further point in leaving a debate open and b.) whether there is consensus?

Please don't take this question as an attempt to impugn your motives or efforts. It's not. I don't have any problem with your decision. I'm simply curious about the "inner workings" of Wikipedia, so to speak. For instance, though there may have been no consensus regarding keeping or deleting the category, there were other issues. Many, including myself, were willing to allow its retention providing suitable objective criteria for inclusion be established. Can one in your position also decide whether a sub-consensus was arrived at on such issues as criteria for inclusion? Or can you only decide the consensus on the black-or-white issue of keep or delete? Specifically, it seems to me that even among those willing to keep the category, many expressed concern over the subjectivity of it and the necessity for careful consideration before including a page. Would determining if this represents a consensus be something for you to do in closing the Afd debate, or is it to be declared by those of us editing the category's talk page amongst ourselves? • Let's wait because there are two issues to discuss first. There's an issue we've just bumped into here for the WikiProject in possibly renaming 5 other existing categories like Category:NHS hospitals because of the naming convention of avoiding abbreviations. Personally, I think that using "National Health Service" in full in categories will cause readability issues which ought to be considered. Secondly, there's a Catch-22 "Major Major" issue around here too. Please skip ahead to this entry. I'm hoping you have time this weekend to close this. There seems to be a strong consensus to delete them all and set a category guideline that these should be lists (for annotation) instead. Even the abstainers note that "The ideal Wikipedia would not have these".... We've had a lot of category revert warring in this arena lately.

There are several other subcategories in the queue that depend on this closing result. For days, I added a pointer in each of them to this entry so that everybody would come together and decide, and I think we've had fairly good participation. (But not as many as I'd expected.)

I'll be happy to update the various guidelines afterward, but I'm not an administrator, and thus not able to close anything "controversial".

Hmm. I wouldn't add the stadium directly to the music venues category, because it looks like most of the articles in that category are about places that are primarily music venues. However, I imagine that nearly every stadium has served as a music venue at one time or another, so perhaps it would be a good idea to add Category:Stadiums to the Category:Music venues. I believe they might fall under the:

• Has been placed in rotation nationally by any major radio network.

M88 isn't a local radio station, they are within large portion of the American Southwest. As well as being globel with their online broadcasting.

• Has composed a number of melodies, tunes or standards used in a notable genre, or tradition or school within a notable genre.

Considering their song "Your Grace" is a usual praise song within' the Seventh Day Adventist church I would say that is a tradition. The problem I see though is that worship songs for a church cannot be verified, but I think if you went to an SDA church for a while you might eventually hear it. But, thus, that is the point of the not being completely verifiable tag, correct?

Are you checking to see if the IATA code is either a redirect or listed on the existing DAB article? If so it would save me from having to look through all of your changes, see what was added and then do the check. Also, it is best to leave the defunct airlines in the list for historical reasons. I'm not sure I understand your reasoning behind this -- it seems to me that these valleys should be a subcategory of at least one higher-level "Valleys of" category, so that they appear somewhere in that category hierarchy, and since the Mojave spans four states, it seemed reasonable to have it appear as a subcategory for such categories for those four states. I recently changed your edits to that page, in which you linked Bulgari as BVLGARI. "BVLGARI" is a trademark, and is not the proper name of the company.
