RP/BBC pronunciation[edit]

There is no need to be so aggressive about the term BBC accent, calling reference to it "tedious and misguided". Look at [[1]] in the section on Alternative names. There is no claim that "there is a single approved "BBC" accent". RoachPeter (talk) 11:39, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What is tedious is the clumsy use of two abbreviations (have you tried reading it out loud?) when a single, clearly defined one will do. The link you've given me there doesn't really support your case, because of the simple fact that the title of the page is Received Pronunciation, whatever alternatives might be available (and why "BBC" above all of the other options?) If that page title ever changes, then we can update the Norfolk Dialect page accordingly, along with a bazillion others.

The current version of the section on Norfolk accent was largely written by me. I can claim a certain amount of competence in this area, as I live in Norwich, and also in the matter of terminology in the description of English Phonetics (see for example [[2]]. I am opposed to the continuing use of the term RP, but carry on using it because many WP readers will be familiar with it. I do not see that anything in WP rules should prevent me from using two terms where I judge it necessary (cf "DPRK" and "North Korea"), nor do I see what is clumsy in the double term I used. I dislike edit wars even more, so I shall not revert your "correction", but a little more courtesy in your interventions would be appreciated. RoachPeter (talk) 18:21, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
