Hi,

I am very new to wikipedia and would like to learn more and get involved.

In the future I would be interested in writing articles and possibly can do translactions from English to Czech and the other way as I'm originally Czech.

Could you, please, help me getting started and point me out the right direction?

Thank you

In need of mentorship

Hi,

I saw your name over at WP:ADOPT.

I need the advice of an experienced Wikipedian.

I'm currently coordinating development of Wikipedia's Outline of knowledge, which has grown to around 500 pages, and I am having trouble recruiting editors to help build and improve it. I need some mentorship here.

I also need advice on the guidelines I've been writing for the Outline of Knowledge at User:The Transhumanist/Outline of knowledge. Is it good enough? Did I miss anything important?

My latest effort to recruit help on the outlines is a proposal for a contest between all of the country WikiProjects on Wikipedia (about 200 of them). This will be a very big event, and I'm not sure I'm going about it in the best way.

So you see, I've taken on a lot, and I need as much advice as I can get.

I look forward to your reply on my talk page.

Adoption

Hello, I want to create Wikipedia pages for Total Wrestling Federation and it's wrestlers. I am one of the wrestlers, but I am not attempting to vandalize Wikipedia or anything malicious. The company has been around for 12 years now and has continued to grow, moving from Tracy, CA to Sacramento, CA. We are on television in the Northern California area on Public Access and available online @ twfwrestling.net.

I have tried to read the rules for editing and creating pages, but some of the language is hard to understand. I do not want to do all of this work and have my page deleted.

How do I start? And how do I know that the informaion I post will be deemed verifiable.

Vandalism from IP address User talk:65.96.108.201

I just wanted to say that this IP address performed some vandalism today on the article Palaemonetes after you had issued a final warning, back in February of this year. You may want to enact the block now. Thanks, Invertzoo (talk) 20:52, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

Easy!Flow is not spam.

It is a well established software for Application Life Cycle Management. Just like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codendi —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lawrence-yang (talkcontribs) 15:31, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

It is a software just like Codendi, which is in the wikipedia. If you still believe it should be deleted. Please let me know the reason why you think so. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lawrence-yang (talkcontribs) 15:34, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

On the other hand, it's free version Easy!TTS has thousands of download. Quite a lot of users use it as a free defect tracker in their daily development work. I believe it should be in Wikipedia, so that more people will know it and it's free version. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lawrence-yang (talkcontribs) 15:37, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I marked the article for deletion because currently it does nothing except promote the product (e.g. by citing its features, etc). You should check out WP:ADVERT and WP:Notability (especially notability of web content, and then address the notability of the software while approaching it from a neutral point of view. Also please note that Wikipedia should not be used for attracting more users to a product. If you need any help or have any questions just let me know. --Aka042 (talk) 15:42, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
Please head on for now, I will follow your instruction and modify the article ASAP. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Lawrence-yang (talkcontribs) 15:47, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
It would be an administrator who makes the decision whether or not to delete the article. Please add a justification on the article's talk page as to why you think it should not be deleted; that way an administrator will see your reasons. --Aka042 (talk) 15:51, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Update for Easy!Flow

I have updated Easy!Flow page per the instruction, please review it, thanks.

BTW, It just a software tool introduction like quite a lot of other tools in wikipedia, as below examples,

Altered Speedy Deletion rationale: Willem Isbrucker

Hello Aka042, and thanks for your work patrolling new changes. I am just informing you that I have deleted a page you tagged (Willem Isbrucker) under a criterion different from the one your provided, which was inappropriate or incorrect. CSD criteria are narrow and specific to protect the encyclopedia, and the process is more effective if the correct deletion rationale is supplied. Consider reviewing the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions or problems, please let me know. Thanks again! NW (Talk) 01:48, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

CSD of Radhinka Apte

Hello Aka042. I have replaced the CSD A7 tag with a PROD tag as the article indirectly asserted WP:notability by stating that she is a bollywood actress in one movie and currently in the process of filming two others. Althrough the article may indeed need clean-up, references, WP:Reliable Sources, and possible deletion if these things are not addressed, It falls short of A7. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to message me. Kindly Calmer Waters 08:29, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Hello, I'm fairly new to wikipedia and you seem like a perfect "fit" for the "adoption" service. You said on the adoption page that you often translate pages from the french wikipedia so I'm guessing you're multilingual this is another reason I would be a good adoptee as i speek both French and English.

Dollars

Thank you for your comments. I explained my view on Grsz11's talk page. As I said, I oppose loading up Wikipedia with minutiae and patronizing readers (Harvard's endowment is not in Australian dollars). I don't want to get involved in any more discussion of the matter than this. I try to be a good guy. For example, I recently spent time editing the contingency table entry. With the help of another Wikipedian, I think the entry is much improved. I wish I had more time to work on improving additional entries. I also hate vandalism. When I happen on it I try to reverse it. I can't do any more. I don't want to get into an extended discussion. I have other commitments.Iss246 (talk) 04:22, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

I took your advice, and visited the style manual (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_%28dates_and_numbers%29#Currencies). I think the style manual is consistent with my point of view.

This is what it said.

Formatting

Use the full name of a currency on its first appearance (52 Australian dollars); subsequent occurrences can use the symbol of the currency (just $88), unless this would be unclear. The exception to this is in articles related entirely to US-, EU-, or UK-related topics, in which the first occurrence may also be shortened ($34, €26, and £22, respectively), unless this would be unclear, and in places where space is limited such as tables, infoboxes, and parenthetical notes. When there are different currencies using the same symbol, use the full abbreviation (e.g. US$ for the United States dollar and AU$ for the Australian dollar, rather than just $) unless the currency which is meant is clear from the context.

I don't want to make more of the matter than it is worth, I simply don't want patronize Wikipedia users by adding unnecessary details. Best wishes.04:51, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

While I still don't see the harm in keeping the US I won't revert any of your edits removing it. --Aka042 (talk) 05:06, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

A technical question

Hello. I was considering of getting adopted here as questions keep on emerging which would get answered more quickly by just asking rather than navigating the seemingly endless "WP:" realm. You have kindly instructed to turn here with questions and I'm doing exactly that. Besides gradually getting comfortable in these environs I'm trying to conduct (albeit a rather primitive) research on collaborative text creation as it happens in wikipedia. In order to see if there is any evidence to support a hypothesis I hahve posited I need to go through page histories to see how exactly the articles evolve. As you probably have noticed longer articles have more than several thousand edits. Comparing every each and one of them is rather cumbersome and time-consuming. Is it possible to have a better overview of the histories or to make the page history show only substantial edits, that is to exclude minor edits, or even better, everything which has to with other aspects of the article besides the text? Now, when I actually make any edits to "Naan", that warning will be needed, but as I haven't, please take that warning and shove it in your ass. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.146.162.1 (talk) 12:00, 22 April 2010 (UTC)

Hi,
Since you are using wikipedia as an anonymous user, its very likely that you received the warning as a result of an edit someone else made using the same IP. As a result, the warning doesn't apply to you as an editor. If you'd like to avoid possibly receiving more warnings that don't apply to you in the future, you may want to consider creating an account. --Aka042 (talk) 22:14, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. — ξxplicit 05:50, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

Adopt-a-user reminder

Hello, I have completed a general cleanup of the adopter information page for the adopt-a-user project, located here. During my cleanup, I have removed several inactive and retired users. In order to provide interested adoptees with an easy location to find adopters, it is essential that the page be up-to-date with the latest information possible. Thus:

  • If you are no longer interested in being an adopter, please remove yourself from the list.
  • If you are still interested, please check the list to see if any information needs to be updated or added - especially your availability. Thank you.
  • You are receiving this message because you are listed as an adopter here.

Hi. Last December you PROD2-ed this after Shadowjams PRODded it for "No indication of notability other than Primary sources," and it was deleted. Its subject Lauren1605 (talk · contribs) (not the original author) has now asked about it on my talk page, so I have restored it as a contested PROD, explained the situation to him, told him that you may wish to AfD it, pointed him to WP:BLP/H and WP:BESTCOI, and suggested he should add independent references to the article talk page and see whether someone else is willing to update the article. Perhaps you might consider giving him a hand, and at least give him some time before taking it to AfD. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 21:18, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:02, 6 November 2016 (UTC)
