Hi, I'm also in the CF and although I read the tutorials, I still have no idea how to get started or where to save user boxes. The coding is simple enough, but where to save them? I'd like to make a few nice air force ones. Can you assist? Fdutil (talk) 16:05, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, no problem. There is a pretty good rundown on how to make userboxes at Wikipedia:Userboxes. In general the best idea is to create a userbox on a fresh page in your own userspace, like mine are. Then you can transclude them onto your own userpage. An important thing to keep in mind is that copyrighted images can't be used in userboxes, only free images. Let me know if you have specific questions. - Ahunt (talk) 17:58, 1 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Me again... I "finally" found the proper page and info... DUH! Thanks. Fdutil (talk) 14:22, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey that is great. If you have any more problems or questions just drop me a note and I will do whatever I can to help you out! - Ahunt (talk) 14:32, 2 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, It's Jeff. I think you should add a section for userboxes that you HELPED to make, as well as those that you made by yourself. Just a thought. Jdaniels15 (talk) 17:54, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I don't want too much credit! I am just happy to help out where I can! - Ahunt (talk) 18:15, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

How do I start a new page, like you did for User:Jdaniels15/whack? I am trying to make a new userbox. (well, I HAVE mad a new userbox, it is just in my sandbox at the moment.) I've got the ubx working, I just need to get it out of my sandbox. Jdaniels15 (talk) 23:26, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A number of ways: 1. copy the code and then type the address of the page you want into your URL bar and hit return, 2. put the link to a page (like your home page) somewhere and then save it, click on the redlink, or 3 click the little down arrow at the top of the page (next to the star) and then move the page to the address you want! Hope that makes sense? - Ahunt (talk) 00:25, 30 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thank you. Jdaniels15 (talk) 10:59, 30 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestions for userboxes[edit]

Perfect! I did a lot of work on the A-10 Deceleron actuators, which give it some rather interesting capabilities, such as rapidly yawing the aircraft when there isn't a lot or air flowing past the rudder. --Guy Macon (talk) 00:52, 24 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Glad those are suitable! Hey that must have been interesting working on aircraft such as the A-10! - Ahunt (talk) 09:43, 24 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Since you seem to have a large number of userboxes you would like created, perhaps it would be best if you make them yourself. You can find detailed and simple instructions at WP:CREATEUSERBOX. - Ahunt (talk) 19:47, 29 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all of this. I'm having a bit of fun with these user boxes. I also borrowed your idea for a header on my User page, thank you for that too. Ken Heaton (talk) 12:12, 17 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Good "Carpentry" userbox desired[edit]

I'm among those who have put the existing "Carpenter" userbox on their user page. This is the box:

"This user is a carpenter".

This user is a carpenter.

The wording is fine. The problem is it shifts through a number of images, several of which are not apt. It shows a hammer, but it's a ball-peen hammer (typically a mechanic's tool, not one used real frequently by a carpenter). The better image would be a claw hammer. The box also features an image of wood mallets — and another of what appear to be carving tools, which are probably carried by a very small minority of carpenters (would only be used for artistic work or decorative touches). While a claw hammer or an electric hand-held circular saw would be more emblematic, the only tools shown that are truly related to a carpenter's typical day are the chalk line (shown in a red casing), and the pencil.

Would you be willing to make a better userbox for this hobby or profession? An appropriate image (besides a claw hammer, or electric circular saw) might be a builder's square. These are tools in frequent use by either a professional or amateur carpenter.

Thanks for your previous response, indicating you'd be open to considering this.Joel Russ (talk) 17:55, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for all the info - that helps! Here is a first crack at it, let me know if you think any changes are needed (colours, image, wording, link) and I will adjust it:

Thanks so much for making the box. I believe that my lack of design sense misled you, via one of my offhand suggestions. True, the square is an essential tool in use throughout a carpenter's day, but at small-scale winds up being kind of hard to discern as a representative image. Circular saw or claw hammer would be better.Joel Russ (talk) 19:33, 5 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
