April 2018[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm Classicwiki. I noticed that you recently removed content from Tom Brokaw without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Classicwiki (talk) If you reply here, please ping me. 00:06, 28 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for violating copyright policy by copying text or images into Wikipedia from another source without evidence of permission. You have been previously warned that this is against policy, but have persisted. Please take this opportunity to ensure that you understand our copyright policy and our policies regarding how to use non-free content.
If you think there are good reasons for being unblocked, please read the guide to appealing blocks, then add the following text below the block notice on your talk page: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}.  —Cryptic 03:56, 28 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I am a new wikipedia user and I was unsure of how the editing process works so I watched a video on YouTube teaching me how to edit and it told me to do that and on top of that I was unable to read to warnings until after I was blocked and to be honest if I'd seen the warnings I would have stopped the second I saw it. In all honesty I am sorry for what I did and I did not know (being a new wikipedia editor) so I hope you read this and please consider unblocking me

Decline reason:

If an instructional video on YouTube instructed you to violate Wikipedia policy, it was either a poor choice of video to watch, or you took the wrong message from it. Either way, until you understand actual Wikipedia policies, which you should learn by actually reviewing them as written on Wikipedia, you can't be unblocked. As such, I am declining your request. Please read WP:COPY and WP:COPYVIO for starters. 331dot (talk) 08:44, 28 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Request reason:

I have now read the links provided and I now understand what I did wrong because I now know that I abused the copyright policy wikipedia has in place by getting a photo off google and saying I made it and if i was to be unblocked I would make sure that never happens again and I now Know how I can now follow the policy of wikipedia and if I am unblocked I follow every rule to every detail and I will not abuse them because I now understand wikipedia polices and I now know how to follow them.

Decline reason:

In order to lift the block, we need to be certain that you understand how copyright works on Wikipedia. To allow the reviewing administrator to assess your understanding, please address the following questions in your next unblock appeal:

  • What is copyright?
  • How is Wikipedia licenced?
  • Why is copyrighted content not allowed on Wikipedia?
  • Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content?
  • How do you intend to avoid violating the copyright policy in the future?

Your answers will enable us to establish whether or not you should be unblocked. Yunshui  08:18, 30 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

the answers to the questions asked: *What is copyright? copyright is the right to use and own a material (such as a picture, a video etc) for a certain number of years. you must gain permission in order to use the copyrighted material (something I did wrong) and once you gain permission you can use the material. *How is Wikipedia licenced? wikipedia is licenced to use photos that are not copyrighted by anyone and wikipedia is also licenced to have and provide content from users to users *Why is copyrighted content not allowed on Wikipedia? copyrighted content is not allowed on wikipedia because the use of copyrighted content can result in fines and even lawsuits, this is not good because this could result in loss of profit for wikipedia and if multiple sources claim copyright that could mean trouble for wikipedia and it would all be on me. *Under what circumstances can we use copyrighted content? we can only use copyrighted material if we have permission from its owner of creator and without this permission you won't be able to use the content (something I now know) *How do you intend to avoid violating the copyright policy in the future? I intend to avoid violating the copyright policy in the future by making sure I check the copyright on any content, ask to use the content before I use it and by limiting my use of anything involving copyright

Accept reason:

I've unblocked per the blocking admin's comments below a few days ago, and because I agree with DESiegel that the unblock request has merit. Please note that if you have continued copyright violations after you are unblocked, you will likely blocked again. TonyBallioni (talk) 02:51, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I have no strong objections. —Cryptic 01:45, 6 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
