"Independent"[edit]

Since we're going a bit back-and-forth on this, please allow me to elaborate: "Independent" means "not owned by another entity". This is true for companies as well as other cases, like countries. For companies, being independent is generally a status quo until they are acquired or merged. In the case that a company is founded as a subsidiary, this should generally be clear from the outset. Unless the independence is crucial for a specific context (such as financial struggle onset by missing backing), it is generally redundant to include it. Hence, it would have been in the case of Mojang Studios that it was independent before it was acquired, making it not-independent (maybe autonomous within XGS, but that is another topic). I reworked the lead entirely, working the independence into Persson's description instead, which logically extends to Mojang until the 2014 buy-out.
