There are script errors when any page loads in VP. For example, when I attempt to load recent changes, the following appears. "An error has occured in the script on this page. Line 2, char 1, error: invalid character. Code 0, URL=recent changes URL" And sometimes another error appears in addition to the scripting error. "Run-time error -2147024726 (800700aa): Automation error, the specified resource is in use." This error is not fatal itself, but when its accompanying scripting error dialog is closed, the program closes immediately. The automation error seems to be reliably reproducable if I set recent changes to "load every 5 seconds", then click "start" and switch to a logged-in WP session in standalone IE. I'm starting to form the opinion that this may have to do with outdated components, especially after hearing that you received an automation error (which would be related to oleaut32.dll). I'm thinking you may have previous versions of this components installed that the app retrieves before those in the cab, or the dll's and ocx's may not be running correctly when not stored in the system directly. I'd recommend that you trying running the setup to correctly install the needed components and see if that cures it. If it fixes it please let me know so I can inform everyone else who is having these problems. Right now I'm trying to get ahold of a machine that does not have these controls installed by default to see if that is indeed causing the J-script errors, as that's what I believe may be responsible. No, it's not just you. There's something fucked in the setup... I can't even run it on my own machine direct from its source... I more or less put all my faith in the PaD Wizard, but it's not working apparently, so I'm going to have to write my own install *angry grumble*. For now, you could try copying all of the files except for the .exe's to your System32 file. A simple copy may not register the dll's, but it's worth a try. Wow, you just seem to be having all sorts of problems. I'm not sure what's causing that ... I just tested adding one (and only one) WL user and then deleting him and had no problems. I thought I already extensively error trapped the arrays for the WL/BL, but apparently not. Could you open up "WhiteList.txt" within the same directory as the app and tell me what its contents are/were before and after you delete the user? It could possibly be replacing the entry with a null character, and then when it tries to eliminate the null character from the set there is no entry superceding it, thus the error ... but I thought I had already fixed all of that. Okay, I know where the problem is. If you add the user, exit the app, load the app, and then delete the user there are no problems. It has something to do with the initial retrieval of the WL / BL being for some reason different from when you add a user. I just started using VandalProof for the first time today (with v.1.1). As soon I as I did so, I started getting the error above sometimes, but not always. It has so far only happened when I us VP/Wiki. I have not noticed any pattern to when it does or does not do this. Funny thing is, when I get past this popup, the correct page loads anyway. Thanks for reporting the bug! I've added a notice to the start page, and I believe I have now fixed the bug in the next release. Yep, I now see what you're talking about. Strangely, the problem only occurs when running the full-compiled version (the release version), as when I run it from within the VB debugger I don't have this problem. I'm thinking this has to do with a faster load time on the pages (as things tend to load faster in compiled versions); perhaps, the timer is firing and inconsistent intervals, something along those lines. I had this same problem when programming my bot User:Gnome (Bot), if this helps you, since all you really are doing is editing from a list, is to create a "delay" timer in the program. On my bot it is set to .5 seconds. Talk to me if you want some more specifics. (I can even give you my code that I used to fix my problem, (C++/CLI) of course. Yep, as I noted below, this is related to the code running faster compiled as opposed to semicompiled (how I usually run it). It's already running on a slight delay timer to prevent server lag; however, I believe the pages are loading before the timer fires, so I may just have to up the interval on the timer. I actually believe this is likely not a conflict with your other tools, but rather has to do with java. What seems to be happening is that it is for some reason retrieving one more child object than is actually there (for the getElementById part). The only one that really bothers me is the spSave; hopefully you get that warning only when editing a page, but I don't understand how it could not find wpSave (the Save button). There might be a setting under your Java settings or internet setting to turn off the error messages, though I don't know where it is. What version of Java are you using? Okay, one more thought that I was trying to post right when the server went down ... try turning off "Force edit summaries" from your preferences... that should hopefully fix the wpSave errors. I'm still not sure how to fix the bodycontent problems, but I'll work on a fix. It does still seem to be a java problem, but it might have to do with your tools. What I really need to work on is disabling scripts on pages (except for popups, which I use quite extensively and have no problems with). Another source of the problem could be that some of the scripts are desinged for FF only, and as VP uses IE components, they might not be compatible with IE, thus the error. (You might also try setting your skin in the IE browser to Simple and see if that cures it). Again, I'll look into it some more, and thanks for bringing this to my attention. Okay, I'm sorry about that. Popups, Lupin's, and AfD helper (and probably others, but those are what I use) should still work. 3)Click on any of the three tabs (Talk, Contribs, or Delete from list) in the Black list box, Without selecting an item inside, (i.e. don't click on a vandal's name, just click the button. Doing so will cause the error to occur and the program to exit.
Note, this does not occur when clicking the buttons on the white list... I tried:-) As a result, I would compare the code from the whitelist buttons, to the code of the blacklist buttion, (in C++, this would be a malfunctioning try, catch block... Dunno for the languge this is written in)
Grrr ... I've got too many goddamn controls on that form. I originally copied all of the code from one button to the next, changing slight details (though I should have just made one hald for all clicks to any of those buttons), and then when I noticed the problem with the White buttons I added the fix into those but not into the others. I'm not quite sure why, but whenever I try to perform a rollback in VP (under normal windows User permissions), I wind up with a "Bad Title" error. I only have popups in my monobook.js, and I deleted my monobook.css too. I can think of 2 issues (or a combination of the two) that could be causing it:
User Permissions - As paranoid as I am, I run under regular user permissions on my windows machine (not Administrator). I had to force full user permissions on all of the installed files & directories in order to get VP to run at all. If I run Vandal Proof with normal user permissions Rollback fails... However if I run as Administrator, it works fine (see my monobook.css page).
IE 7 - I am running with IE7 installed, this may compound the above problem.
Hm.. it seems that there have been quite a few IE7 problems reported. Can you do me a favor? Try clicking this link, and tell me if it reverts, or if it gives you a bad page title error. When useing the "inform editors of this article" feature the program does two things wrong.
1)It posts to some selected individuals 3-4 times, and to some other selected individuals 0 times (have a look at my contributions. (I hit this error twice, so you should see two seperate instances of the program going beserk, and my going after it and fixing what it did wrong.
2) It throws runtime error 330 and closes out of vandalproof.

Yep, you're not the first user to have this problem unfortunately. I believe the problem has to with the optimization options I used when compiling it, as this problem doesn't occur when running the uncompiled (or semicompiled if you like) version. Ok, but please remember that this program is still in development, more than likely the error is due to the program only holding X number of changes (without the source code, I can only speculate). AmiDanial may be able to fix this, my suggestion is meant as a workaround only. The workaround is not all that bad either, It just means you have to hit one extra buttion. In case no one else has caught this...I had a user, User:JaY (uppercase Y ) show up in my VandalProof window tagged as an admin. If you've lost count, User:Jay (lowercase y ) IS an admin. the JaY user only had 3 total edits one of which was vandalism on the Fidel Castro article. I almost let it pass but that article has been very active lately so I popped in just to read it. Had VandalProof been case sensitive I wouldn't have gone in with my guard down. I did add Kate's tool and AFD helper to my monobook recently; However have since reverted back to previous and hard refreshed my monobook and still doing it every time.
This may be better directed to User:Lupin. Popups seems to have a lot of problems with Internet Explorer (which VP uses to render pages)--in fact, the strange crash on startup bug was popups-related, though I've now been able to fix the bug with a 0.5 second timer. Try loading up an IE instance to try and replicate the bug; it's possible that this may have been inadvertently fixed in the upcoming release, as I made some changes to fix the IE script errors. Having some issues this evening. Been trying to get into the mod menu to approve to two users attached on this image ==> and been getting Run time error '13' popping up after which the app immediately closes.
Can't seem to shake it (tried it on 2 PCs [however my second PC accesses the app on the other via the shared folder so that the logs/custom buttons etc remain intact). Thought I'd let you know anyway - approve the two users too if I don't get a chance! :)

Hey Daniel, just 3 very minor bugs (if you could call them that) - no doubt you know these but thought I'd be sure.
When reverting VP doesn't detect a change has been made and as such tries to revert. However there is no change actually made (as someone else was faster reverting) and then VP warns the editor regardless. This results in double ups in warnings
AIV - VP doesn't detect the user has already been added to AIV, again, resulting in double ups.
Because VP is IE based, the new edit counter links won't work (more specific to mods than users). Is there anyway to have a open in new browser window right click open the default browser instead of IE perhaps?
I'm aware of this problem, but I don't know how exactly to go about repairing it. No warning is given to the user when someone else has reverted quicker (unless by a 1:100000 chance you get an edit conflict), and it would be quite counterproductive to reload the history everytime just to check that.
Already fixed in the next release.
If you know a javascript command (or Win API) to do this, I'd be glad to; however, I don't know any. Right now I'm just using the javascript, "window.open('blabla');" to pop up a new window. I suppose it's probably possible to do this via API, maybe with ShellExecute, but that's still an awful lot of code to do something I'm currently doing in one line. Is IE really that horrible?

Essentially it's just a simple tool to do history merges--after a long discussion in IRC last talking about what a pain merging histories is (though I don't think so at all), I just threw together a quick diddy to do it in one click. Now back on topic: Interiot's Tool2 only works with non-IE browsers, though I might note that the toolserver is ... sort of ... back up. In any case, the next release will use my really crappy little edit counter to just obtain a quick, dirty raw edit count, so that won't be an issue, I don't think. The RC script only works because it's a streaming feed, which VP is not, but I'll look into it anyway. Anyway, thanks for all your help, and I'll see what I can do. It seems to be a problem with converting HTML chars to ASCII, though I thought I had already dealt with the question mark before. Let me run a couple tests and see if I can get it sorted out; I'm thinking this may have to do with the order in which I translate the chars: if I have %3 before %3F, it will translate %3 and then not find %3F. I've just recently uncovered a rather serious bug in VP: It currently does not substitute the PROD template. Especially since the implementation of the new "YOU FORGOT TO SUBST THIS TEMPLATE!!!" warning and the new system of timestamping, this could be quite a problem. For right now, please prod articles manually. This will be fixed in the next release (I might have to release a very immediate version this weekend). Sorry about this.
