Proposed deletion of Adventure Gamers

I removed the prod tag you placed on Adventure Gamers, as it was discussed at AfD in December 2006. Compliance with policy is the only reason I did this; it should not be interpreted as my endorsement for keeping the article. Feel free to open another AfD. —KuyaBriBriTalk 14:54, 12 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wow

Thank you, that was done so fast i wasn't expecting a reply for a couple of days. Thanks again. :) - (CK)Lakeshade - talk2me - 08:03, 22 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mushroom Kingdom Fusion

I missed the AfD of this article, or else I certainly would have objected. I can assure you that the game exists and has been released (as a beta) as I've played it before. The reason their website is down is because the hosting provider is itself down, so they need to look for a new website. I haven't spoken to them in a few months, so it's possible the creators are no longer working on it actively, though that would surprise me. I'll try to get in touch with them and find out what's going on. I'm aware my vote wouldn't have changed the outcome of the AFD but if I had had more time I could have at least done some improvements to it. (edit: [1] seems to be the current website.) Call recorder redirection deletion advice

As you suggested I've changed the Call recorder deletion recommendation from an AFD to an RFD. Appreciate the heads-up. Paul Robert Murphy (talk) 10:32, 15 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

User Paul Robert Murphy

I'll take a look at improving the two articles I wrote as you suggested.

Wanted to talk to you about your Conflict of Interest warning. I was very deliberate in pointing out my position in my bio because I wanted editors to know that I am aware of the possibility for conflict of interest and would very much like to be be called on it if anyone thinks I've written anything that comes close to that. Since I'm in this business of call recording I obviously know a fair bit about it. I would have happily let someone else take the lead in the area, but what I found there is either very old or (IMO) close to useless. Several people suggested I write anonymously or have someone else post, but I thought that that was ridiculous since my interest was in organizing the subject area, not in promoting our company!

I originally only intended to write the call-recording services article, because that's my primary area of interest. I tried to be as impartial as possible. In fact several people in our company have accused me making our competitors seem like a better option. Since I'm in tech and not marketing, I think that's just too bad. Although I'm new to Wikipedia as a contributor, it's been a source of information for years and I have every interest in making it better.

I created the call-recording hardware stub for completeness. I assume that's reasonable.

I included a Call Trunk entry in call-recording Software because I noticed that our competitors have done same, although apparently anonymously. In fact, it's a debatable position. Software is required to enable a service. Still, I don't think any of those should be there. Being all-inclusive is a short-term fix. I think that that whole article needs to be rewritten from scratch. I have it on my watch list. If no one gets around to it, I will at some point.

I don't know about talk etiquette. I was going to respond on my talk page but wasn't sure if you'd then pick it up. Is responding on your talk page the right thing to do?

I appreciate your input and help.

Help!

There are all kinds of new buttons on my screen! I really should keep my laptop away from the kids, shouldn't I... Andrevan, thanks for closing my RfA. Help

Dear Andrevan, I am Nodar Kherkheulidze and I have to ask you for help. When I have registered on wikipedia, I made mistake — I wrote my surname with little letter (kherkheulidze). My home page is on ka.wikipedia.org, I asked to change my username and it was changed (Nodar kherkheulidze to Nodar Kherkheulidze). But the changes have not been represented on english wikipedia. So, I made a mistake and created new account on en.wikipedia.org — Nodar Kherkheulidze and confirmed it by password to my changed username. So, now I have two accounts: user:Nodar kherkheulidze and user:Nodar Kherkheulidze. Please, help me to solve this problem, I do not want to have the first account "Nodar kherkheulidze" (account, which starts with little letter "k"). Thank you in advance. --Nodar Kherkheulidze (talk) 07:10, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Andrew, firs of all, thank you for help again. Let me to ask you a question: Is it possible to change my old username — User:Nodar kherkheulidze to new — User:Nodar Kherkheulidze globally, in every wikipedia project (for example: ru.wikipedia.org, fr.wikipedia.org, de.wikipedia.org and etc)? Or I have to ask each of every wikipedia's Beaurocrats to change my username? "Nodar kherkheulidze" was changed to "Nodar Kherkheulidze" only on ka.wikipedia.org and en.wikipedia.org. Except of these sites on other projects username "Nodar kherkheulidze" and "Nodar Kherkheulidze exists separately. Nodar Kherkheulidze (talk) 14:30, 3 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Making WP:Mediation meaningful

Please consider how you might assist Feezo, who you will know is the mediator at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Senkaku Islands.

As context, please scan "Hands off" mediation plan.

Mediation involves conflated issues, but wider community intervention is needed in order to help, support and encourage Feezo so that we may reach those issues. --Tenmei (talk) 18:33, 8 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You're invited to the New York Wiknic!

You could be having this much fun! Seriously, consider coming.

This message is being sent to inform you of a Wikipedia picnic that is being held in your area next Saturday, June 25. From 1 to 8 PM or any time in between, join your fellow volunteers for a get together at Norman's Landscape (directions) in Manhattan's Central Park.

Non-Free rationale for File:Microsoft Agent test page.png

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Microsoft Agent test page.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under Non-Free content criteria but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a Non-Free rationale.

If you have uploaded other Non-Free media, consider checking that you have specified the Non-Free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 16:43, 25 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Maroghini has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Nintendo Power scans request

Hey. I'm collaborating with User:Guyinblack25 on the article P.N.03, and I thought I would ask if you have access to the October 2003 issue of Nintendo Power, which contains a review of the game that will be critical to writing a balanced article. The review should appear on page 137. I sent this request to User:Pagrashtak initially, but he seems to be inactive. If you have the time, I'd be hugely grateful for your help. Hello,

I am a wikipedia user and donor, but not a participant in your editorial community. I am writing to bring a matter to your attention regarding this adjustment to an article about Canada's involvement in the conflict in Afghanistan:

 http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Canadian_Forces_casualties_in_Afghanistan&diff=457282996&oldid=457257663

I object to the removal of the casualties by name and year. It seems that this was discussed and removed within the space of a single day, and over the partial objections of two other editors. The informational value of the dates and operations is obvious and stripping names out reduces searchability for researchers.

Thank you,

You are invited to the National Archives ExtravaSCANza, taking place every day next week from January 4–7, Wednesday to Saturday, in College Park, Maryland (Washington, DC metro area). Come help me cap off my stint as Wikipedian in Residence at the National Archives with one last success!

This will be a casual working event in which Wikipedians are getting together to scan interesting documents at the National Archives related to a different theme each day—currently: spaceflight, women's suffrage, Chile, and battleships—for use on Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons. The event is being held on multiple days, and in the evenings and weekend, so that as many locals and out-of-towners from nearby regions1 as possible can come. Please join us! Request for Comments on Wikipedia:Representation

Hi there! My name is Whenaxis, I noticed that you are on the Mediation Committee. I created a policy proposal called Wikipedia:Representation. I think that this policy would help the Mediation Committee as well as the Arbitration Committee because the goal of this proposed policy is to decrease the amount of time wasted when an unfamiliar editor files a Mediation or Arbitration Committee when other forms of Dispute Resolution have not yet been sought. For example, an editor may come to the Mediation Committee requesting formal mediation when other dispute resolution areas have not been utilised such as third opinions or request for comments. A representative works much like a legal aid - there to help you for free and:

  • File a formal mediation case or an arbitration case on your behalf
  • Make statements and submit evidence at the case page on your behalf
  • Guide you through the expansive and sometimes complex policies and procedures of Wikipedia

This proposed idea can also help the editor seeking help because it can alleviate the stress and anxiety from dispute resolution because mediation and arbitration can be intimidating for those who are unfamiliar.

I would highly appreciate your comments on this proposal at: Wikipedia talk:Representation. Cheers and Happy New Year - Whenaxis about talk contribs 22:33, 31 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Interview Regarding Wikipedia Bots

Greetings Andrevan-

My name is Randall Livingstone, and I am a graduate student at the University of Oregon, currently collecting data for my dissertation on Wikipedia editors who create and use bots and assisted editing tools, as well as editors involved in the initial and/or ongoing creation of bot policies on Wikipedia. As a member of the bot community and former member of BAG, I would very much like to interview you for the project at a time and in a method that is most convenient for you (Gchat, another IM client, Skype, email, telephone, etc.). I am completely flexible and can work with your schedule. The interview will take approximately 30-45 minutes.

My dissertation project has been approved both by the Institutional Review Board (IRB) at the University of Oregon, and by the Research Committee at the Wikimedia Foundation. You can find more information on the project on my meta page.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and I look forward to hearing from you to set up a time to chat. Thank you very much.

I read here that it is possible to usurp this account and unify it with my Italian-wiki one, so this is what I'm asking to you: can you do it? Thanks!--Aethelfirth (msg) 09:38, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

MSU Interview

Dear Andrevan,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 04:15, 14 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I will be grateful if you help me out in this issue: I had created an account in Wikipedia in the year 2006 named user:Ashwinsarwate, but was not much involved in serious editing. I forgot password and/or the account was reset [exactly i don't remember]. In april 2012 I got to learn much more about Wikipedia and decided to try to be an active editor. I created another account user:Sarwateashwin, being unaware of the fact that it is unethical to create multiple usernames(my serious apologies for that). I had completely forgotten about my earlier username. Recently an administrative editor hinted me that it is not good to have a username indicative of your real name, at this time I was also unaware of the provision of changing username I decided that I will create a new account (and I created this one) and delete the older one user:Sarwateashwin. Later I came across the page which describes that a username can be changed or usurped. All this put me in a fix, and trying to be precautionary about not violating Wiki guidelines, I decided to take your guidance (I saw you in thebureaucrats list):

At first I decided to send a request for usurping user:Sarwateashwin to user:WhiteStar6, but since my account is only 3 months old I thought my request will be declined.

Please suggest me what to do, I apologize for violating Wiki Rules by creating these many accounts, but my intentions were clean: 1) To usurp user:Ashwinsarwate to user:WhiteStar6. (I would prefer this option if its ok with you) ( I have recovered the former account also) 2) To usurp user:Sarwateashwin to user:WhiteStar6. 3) Continue with user:WhiteStar6 but this account is too new (older accounts have more validity I've heard).

Please suggest me what to do. I hope I'm not bothering you.

Thank you.

We know that when it comes to a matter such as this ,which may embarrass the governmentor other agencies, there are ways of making the evidence disappear, but that is just speculation. Deletion of Ben Jordan: Paranormal Investigator

The article should not have been summarily deleted. It doesn't match the G4 guidelines you quoted when you deleted it. It wasn't "a sufficiently identical and unimproved copy", as it was improved so that the problems raised in the AFD do not fit the article as it stood when you deleted it. It meets the Wikipedia:GNG guidelines as multiple, independent sources were listed that established notability for the game (the article contained references including: a review in the February 2007 issue of PC Zone, a review at Just Adventure, and a feature at Adventure Gamers as well as an award from Adventure Gamers). The reviews also make it meet Wikipedia:Notability (software), since the software is the subject of multiple reliable reviews, written by independent authors and published by independent publishers. If there's a problem with the article as it is, you can list it as needing clean-up, but it shouldn't be deleted as notability was established. JenniBees (talk) 19:34, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am quite content to do this onwiki -we have always worked transparently, except where secrecy is essential (ie RTV). I think we should be able to wordsmith a statement acceptable to all, and I think it's an important thing to do.

  1. In my opinion, this issue has come about through an unfortunate proliferation of documentation: policy, guideline, how-to etc
  2. I am not convinced that there is community consensus on all of the points encapsulated in those various pages
  3. I am unhappy at what may be described as some or all of: inconsistencies, inaccuracies or lack of clarity in that documentation
  4. I do not believe that any of the issues we have faced have been caused by Crats trying to widen their powers
  5. I would like to see the issues clarified, based on consensus, and for the documentation to be updated accordingly
  6. I'd like to thank Griot-de for generously withdrawing the rename request

Replaceable fair use File:Volgin russia review.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Volgin russia review.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 14:30, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Alex Poltorak.JPG

Thanks for uploading File:Alex Poltorak.JPG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 14:30, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your input is requested

Greetings, Andrevan! If we have not met, I'm AutomaticStrikeout. I've come here to ask you to take part in the survey at User:AutomaticStrikeout/Are admins interested in a RfB?. I am trying to gauge the general level of interest that administrators have in running for cratship, as well as pinpoint the factors that affect that interest level. Your input will be appreciated. Happy editing, AutomaticStrikeout (TCSign AAPT) 02:06, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well, that's the second time I've forgotten to check and see if you are already a crat. How embarrassing! AutomaticStrikeout (TCSign AAPT) 02:07, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, sorry for writing in English. I'm writing to ask you, as a bureaucrat of this wiki, to translate and review the notification that will be sent to all users, also on this wiki, who will be forced to change their user name on May 27 and will probably need your help with renames. You may also want to help with the pages m:Rename practices and m:Global rename policy. Thank you, Nemo 13:04, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for October 22

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Cornelius P. Rhoads, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Rockefeller Institute (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Paper on Rhoads and Campos

Hi Andrevan - thanks for helping on the bio articles about these two men, keeping discussion going, and giving me more background. I've just started reading your paper, which looks terrific. It immediately captured my attention.Parkwells (talk) 16:58, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think you both grasp the complicated politics of the time, and make them clear for contemporary readers. Wanted to recommend, if you haven't read it, Stephen Jay Gould's The Mismeasure of Man. Very powerful. He showed how scientists' biases have frequently prevented them from drawing the right conclusions from their data. As one example, he noted popular ideas about women's and minorities' purported "lack of intelligence" in relation to the model male (and for instance, not noticing the effects of secondary language acquisition on IQ scores of immigrants during WWI, who were judged sub-standard.) In your article, on p. 12, you write about something from a letter of Rhoads, with the Lederer source already used in the Rhoads WP article. What I think would be worth adding to the article is that Rhoads was studying dietary deficiency as it was thought to be implicated in tropical sprue, and was trying to induce disease by dietary manipulation (which could then be corrected by better nutrition.) This was not the injection of disease bacteria that Nelsondenis kept referring to in his comments on the Talk page. No such thing took place. As this is factual (his research), I think it would be valid to use. What do you think? Still reading.Parkwells (talk) 19:13, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, please make the changes here as you have written it, that sounds accurate. Andrevan@ 19:24, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I did some revisions to the page for A Tale of Two Kingdoms. It looks like it got some coverage and I've recorded it on the page. There are two things I'm hesitant about: the notability of the games from AGS and how usable a source is if we have a picture of it on the developer's website. There are two magazine reviews (one brief, one lengthy) that we have pictures of, but I really prefer avoiding those in general. It's a clear enough picture that it's obviously not shooped and we get the full perspective, though. I thought I'd ask your opinion on it. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 08:09, 27 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This edit you made [HERE] concerns me a bit. You have never edited this article before, now you are suddenly following my edits from Cornelius P. Rhoads to here. While we may have our differences referent to Cornelius P. Rhoads article you now seem to be taking my edits personally instead of discussing them in a civil manner. I don't think I have to talk much sense into you, since you appear to have made at least some sense yourself in the past. I hope we don't have to end up in a long-winded conversation on what appears to me to be a rather silly situation. I hope ego-inflation is not at play here. I believe you are an admin and I am a long-time WP editor. I hope you have a fairly acceptable explanation for this new behaviour, specifically your following me around which constrants my ability to edit wikipedia without having to worry that someone is follwing me around in bad faith. Do you have a reasonable explanation for this? Mercy11 (talk) 19:01, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

Information icon There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.

You can see the results of the ANI discussion for yourself, so I am not going in that. I am here to make a proposal. Perhaps this can be a fair compromise. I think is a win-win for you no matter how you proceed, so I don't know how you could reject it. My time and yours, I think, is best editing than fighting. So here is my proposal:
How about if you get your way in the Cornelius Rhoads article relative to the Ewing edits and I get my way in the Museo de Arte de Ponce article relative to the AAM accreditation? I am no fool, and understand what it means if you accept (You, in fact, get what you wanted at Cornelius Rhoads for wikihounding me at the Museo de Arte de Ponce article). But I am willing to put this behind me. Mercy11 (talk) 23:48, 4 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Procedural accept

That's the first one I've done - when you moved and renamed, you left the request open. I've closed it as a procedural accept. (I was trying to accept while you were moving things...) I do a lot of procedural declines, though. Peridon (talk) 17:08, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sarcastic

Andrevan, in RE: to THIS, I am not being sarcastic. But I am asking myself, how much longer before you can start thinking more in AGF mode? Mercy11 (talk) 04:09, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you're not being sarcastic, you're just wrong. If you are saying you are going to revert Parkwells' edits and he can go to ANI, well, that's anti-wiki, unproductive editing. Andrevan@ 04:11, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Look, Andrevan, I didn't say I was going to revert Parkwells edits. I am not sure why you can't give up the idea that the only way to work with me is to do a non-AGF. As for you comments HERE, if you think I have a pattern of editing protectively, I don't: I am well within the guidelines of WP:PG and WP:BOLD. I really don't know what continues to bug you so much. Perhaps you are still hung up on The FBI files on Puerto Ricans?
I know you are the author or WP:DAQ, but remember essays don't have the force of P&G. Perhaps you can nominate it to P&G and then we will all have to live by DAQ also. But until then P&Gs is what rules. As for the WP:RFC/U thing, well,,,, anyone has the prerogative of listing there. I cannot take that right away from you. I hope this helps, Mercy11 (talk) 04:30, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to know the FBI files thing as well. DAQ - which is in many ways a counterpoint to BOLD - is also a counterpoint to the point I'm making to you, which is you need to stop pushing a Puerto Rican nationalist POV in your edits by aggressively reverting anything that differs from your preferred version of the article. Andrevan@ 05:15, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Response needed

Hello Andrevan; I'm not sure how to respond here, hope you can help. Thanx Mlpearc (powwow) 06:47, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Advice

Andrevan, you know that you are among my earliest friends in Wikipedia, so as a friend I am going to give some advice. I know, you didn't ask for it and that you don't have to take my advice, but here goes. I believe that the situation between you and User: Mercy should stop. You are both good editors and it is counter productive to Wikipedia that you both keep bumping heads. It may seem to those following the discussion (which I am not) that you may be wikihounding him. Don't get me wrong my friend, I am not saying that you are, but others may think otherwise. Let it go, as I said, it is a pity that the situation has gotten personal amongst you both, good editors. That is my humble advice. Tony the Marine (talk) 19:50, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you for your response. As I stated before I haven't followed the discussion and I don't even have the articles in question on my "watchlist" which is why I really don't know what is really going on. My interaction with you has always been the best. I hope that things get sorted out between the parties involved. Take care. Tony the Marine (talk) 22:40, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

WP:VG Interview

This hasn't hit the mainstream yet, but today is an important day for WP:VG. We've reached our 10 year anniversary! The WP:VG Newsletter crew are interested in running a feature this quarter on the early days of WP:VG and because you are one of the earliest contributors to the WikiProject, we need your help. In the last 10 years a lot has changed and we'd love to hear your perspective on it. One of the biggest changes may be your level of participation in the WikiProject or even in Wikipedia generally. This is why I'm contacting you almost 2 months before the newsletter is due to come out (it's due on April 2). I'm hoping that you'll have time somewhere between now and then to answer a few general questions reflecting on WP:VG and Wikipedia in general. Please contact me here if you would be willing to answer a few questions for our anniversary article. If you can participate, please mark this beside your name on the list, and if you can't participate please also mark this on the list by deleting your name or overstriking it. I hope this will be a fun and interesting quarter for the WP:VG Newsletter! Thanks in advance. -Thibbs (talk) 12:43, 6 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Great! I'll drop a note here on your talk page when I've got a draft of the questions posted. Thank you. -Thibbs (talk) 12:27, 8 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi again, I've posted a preliminary set of five questions at my sandbox (linked above) so that you can get a sense of what kinds of questions I'll be asking. The final interview will probably be 10 to 15 questions in total. -Thibbs (talk) 12:31, 13 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Question

Sorry for asking this, but whom would I be obliged to contact in the mediation committee to indicate that I believe the mediator in a case might be, perhaps, not one whose good offices as a mediator are necessarily apparent in their actions? I have to say that some of your own comments call into question your own ability to fairly mediate a matter of content. Also, while I recognize that you are an atheist, and honestly don't give a damn about that one way or another, I very much believe that there is a possibility that the discussion is getting out of control, and that your own attempts to perhaps seek to impose your own will on the parties of the mediation is strongly indicative that your good offices as a mediator are under some degree of question. Please see the talk page of Christ myth theory about Saint Barbara and the like where I try to indicate that my motivation is more as a historian, not as a religious believer. I am the first to acknowledge, by the way, that no reference book is necessarily the single best source for anything. I have seen several reviews of several such sources indicating that a specific article was written by someone in a limited field who was among the only living people who knew the subject, and that the group editors/board of editors of multiple reference sources don't always proofread or critique articles once they have been assigned. So, yeah, some articles are recognized as being biased from the word go. But your some of your recent comments call into question whether you as an individual are capable of seeing all the parties in the mediation as capable of being fair, and, honestly, I don't think that you necessarily have the evidence to support that. And, also, by the way, I would appreciate a direct response regarding where you as an individual place the apparent priority of WP:CONSENSUS among all policies and guidelines when the group involved in developing that consensus includes only a very small number of editors and where, honestly, the subject is one which few if any people know personally to any reasonable degree? John Carter (talk) 07:56, 22 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

While noting your appeal to authority, an article I believe you should read, on my talk page, I very seriously question whether you as an individual are so necessary empowered by your position that you are in a position to tell others "the way things work around here." I also notice that you seem to be showing a remarkably ill-advised hope to resolve the situation before all parties to the mediation have even commented, as per my own comments on the talk page, and am now, seemingly, once again, because in your little condescending comment on my user talk page you didn't answer it, I am forced to once again ask you, as a functionary of MEDCOM, who I would contact to express my concerns that you as an individual are not necessarily demonstrably qualified to mediate in this matter? And, if it isn't asking too much of you, do you think you might actually allow all the parties to the mediation to at least respond to proposals before you attempt to "reach compromise" before they can express their opinions, which I repeat you seem to be doing in this particular instance? John Carter (talk) 08:12, 22 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Please see my talk page, in which I responded to your implicitly stated belief that somehow you as an individual are in a position to not only mediate, but also play judge, jury, and executioner, Sunray's talk page, in which I request that another mediator be assigned to this matter, and the mediation talk page itself. Also, maybe, you might at some point review the academic journals relating to religion, in which you would find almost instantly that many if not most of the books published recently in the field of Christianity are in some way promoting fringe theories. Whether you as an individual know the field much or not, I think you would realize that, unfortunately, there really haven't been that many recent "discoveries" in the field of the early Christian era, that there are an incredible number of professors facing "publish or perish" threats despite the fact that there isn't that much new to publish anything about, and so, unfortunately, most of the books published as anything other than overviews or recapitulations are going to be, in some way, advancing of fringe or distinct minority theories, particularly taking into account the widely disparate beliefs of some of the 20,000 Christian denominations/groups estimated to exist today. I believe it is infinitely more reasonable for me to ask you how you believe you are justified in showing the unconscionable gall to call me a troll on my own talk page, and then to show the lack of courage to stand by your own comments by revising it to simply calling me "silly". It also very, very much approaches, if not in fact clearly violating, WP:NPA based on your own rather biased and less than knowledgeable opinions. Equally problematic is your apparent refusal to abide by policies and guidelines in your own conduct of this matter. Please stay off my user talk page until and unless you yourself, who seek to try to tell others how to behave, insist on such unacceptable behavior of your own. If you insist, I still think you might be a troll. But I agree that was a borderline personal attack so I removed it. Andrevan@ 21:34, 22 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
YOu removed it two minutes after the comment above, as can be seen [7]. I also notice how you as an individual seem to be almost obsessed with this conversation, rather than perhaps actually reading some of the material in the relevant mediation and making an effort to see if some of the contentions put forward by some of the parties are actually supported in accord with policies and guidelines, which has been repeatedly asserted by multiple parties and which you have yourself, to date, apparently not bothered to address or perhaps even make an effort to attempt to review. So, you still think that I might be a troll. Fine. I will refrain from saying the words which your conduct is increasingly convincing me apply to you based on your own recent conduct.
