You know that IP adress who edited Morty Black's page?[edit]

That was Morty himself. Cool, huh?Ollie the Magic Skater 01:05, 10 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, cool! Just too bad that there is no page on me on Wiki that I can edit. Cheers, ArchStanton 18:14, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

FYI[edit]

{nonsense} and {db-nonsense} are exactly equivalent. In fact, I think one is just a redirect to the other, so there's no need to modify the tag. Fan-1967 16:28, 18 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thanks for letting me know.

Arnfinn Kjelland[edit]

Welcome!

Hello, ArchStanton69, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there. Again, welcome!

It is always nice to see new folks active on Wikipedia. I used the standard welcome since I see no one took the trouble to say hi when you joined a few months back. You know much of that, but...

It is, however, quite rare for someone to enter Wikipedia with:

and to start off one’s Wikipedia career with a campaign to delete articles that are borderline on meeting the Wikipedia:Notability (people) guidelines. Your prod ( {{dated prod|concern = {{{concern|reason Not notable, his publications are in Norwegian only, and are local history books for 4 Norwegian muncipalities}}}|month = January|day = 11|year = 2007|time = 16:39|timestamp = 20070111163949}}) on Arnfinn Kjelland is rather unusual.

I do strongly appreciate your notifying me; very much the civilized and right thing to do.

I don't intend to delete/contest your prod on the Arnfinn article. You're partially right, of course, the Kjelland article is not in the same class as the Churchill article & never will be. But I would suggest he easily meets the Wikipedia:Notability (people) (“the individual is more well known and more published than an average college professor”); I live on another continent, have never met the man, and am aware of his work. I've read enough of his work on historic Norwegian property law to consider him noteworthy enough to add to Wikipedia)—but if the article goes, it goes. He is a legitimate & serious author in an area of growing historic interest to a subset of the population (but all history is only of interest to a subset of the population).

Wikipedia is a relational database which can handle a large number of articles. Over the past 2 years the number has much more than doubled. The topics covered become ever more detailed. My bet is that we delete Arnfinn Kjelland today, in another two years we'll have Arnfinn Kjelland back.

I’d suggest that you refrain from working further AfD nominations (except for obvious trash which you've clearly helped with) until you’ve created some serious articles. Then you will be more than welcome to clean out other’s contributions.

Look forward to seeing more of your work! Skål - Williamborg (Bill) 05:59, 13 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies for expressing myself such that you felt patronized. Comments on your thoughtful and intelligent comments follow:
  • Appreciate your reminding me that I can remove prods (I felt just a bit patronized by that observation myself, since I have removed a couple of prods over the years, but never on articles I initiated). As stated above, I do not intend to delete your prod on the Arnfinn article. If you elect to leave it and the admin who responds when the prod times-out elects to delete Arnfinn, so be it.
  • Yes I may have overreacted. I have spent enough time in AfD space myself to recognize marketing, do not write promotional pieces for anyone, and felt offended that my material should have come across as a promotional piece. But if you felt it reads as promotional, I accept that I need to improve my work.
  • My calling your adding a few prods a "campaign" was indeed harsh and judgemental. You're obviously intelligent and capable, so I should have assumed good faith. Please accept my apology for harsh wording.
  • I am particularly heartened that you will broaden your focus to include increasing the number of articles on notable Norwegian people, with inclusion of Norwegian writers. If you checked my contributions and noted I've originated over a dozen of these articles (usually by poorly translating articles from the Norwegian Wiki), I appreciate your research and thoughtful comment. If you did it instinctively, since this is an area that (in my opinion) is worthy of improvement, that is even better. I sincerely welcome any efforts there.
  • And as to "pop culture", I rather apologize for my lopsided view. I am old enough to have seen Bob Dylan in Dinkytown. In his generation there were hundreds & hundreds of other pop rock groups who would probably have been added to Wikipedia by the fans of that day if Wikipedia had existed then. And most of those groups have totally vanished, deservedly so. So yes, I do think there is a lot of Fancruft amongst that subset of Wiki articles. Early on I considered starting my own campaign to cull the weaker of these, but concluded that Wikipedia is a relational database with lots of space & Wikipedia would be better off if I let folks who contribute to popular culture police their own turf while I focused on adding material in areas that interest me.
It is a pleasure seeing you here in Wikipedia. Pleased that you didn't let a cranky, surly, crusty, old curmudgeon drive you away. Happy editing - Williamborg (Bill) 01:28, 14 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Storholmen fyr.jpg listed for deletion[edit]

Dear uploader: The media file you uploaded as Image:Storholmen fyr.jpg has been listed for speedy deletion because you selected a copyright license type implying some type of restricted use, such as for non-commercial use only, or for educational use only or for use on Wikipedia by permission. While it might seem reasonable to assume that such files can be freely used on Wikipedia, a non-profit website, this is in fact not the case. Please do not upload any more files with these restrictions on them, because content on Wikipedia needs to be compatible with the GNU Free Documentation License, which allows anyone to use it for any purpose, commercial or non-commercial.

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self-no-disclaimers}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If you have any questions please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you. —Pilotguy cleared for takeoff 23:33, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I looked at his contributions and he did some in dealing with Marvel comics characters I googled them and this 11-Ball and others and they do exist. I put on his talk page he really needs to flesh out the articles and put exactly what they are about since he doesn't even mention they are comcic characters. Its up to you but if you'd like you could remove the warning since they are legit characters he just really doesn't get how to make the pages for them. I put a welcome template up as well to help him. Thanks for your time. --Xiahou 22:35, 12 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to improve upon article[edit]

You have totally removed or reverted an existing article on this artist, Joseph Wood. Why? There is little information out there available, and he is significant in the outsider art world. Please, why the change--I was making only minor edits to correct what I found. The artist you have reverted to is not regarded as significant in history--nor in the world of art as known today (1700s?) Whereas, "this" Joseph Wood (1977) has a piece going into the Silverstein Building at Ground Zero. Get my drift? Fair use rationale for Image:Hot chip over and over.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Hot chip over and over.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:00, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Unit4agresso logo.gif[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Unit4agresso logo.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

Replaceable fair use Image:Susannamagical.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Susannamagical.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 14:18, 4 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of Unit 4, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: Unit 4 Agresso. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 11:27, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The bot is right, you shouldn't have copied and pasted the page. There is a move button at the top of each article for changing its title. However no harm no foul: I will tag this article for an admin to fix this for us. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 15:44, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:16, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment.
