December 2010

A tag has been placed on Wikipedia Day Comet of 2007, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from an implausible typo.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you believe that there is a reason to keep the redirect, you can request that administrators wait a while before deleting it. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Outline of meteorology

The Outline of meteorology is still incomplete. Would you mind taking a look at it?     The Transhumanist 04:40, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

1936 Nobel peace prize

Thanks for noting that the wrong guy was linked at ITN for the 1936 prize. When I added the link, I assumed that the person in question was Carlos Saavedra Lamas, since he's marked with "1936" at {{Nobel Peace Prize Laureates 1926-1950}}; I was entirely unaware of the fact that prizes were presented in the following year at that time. I noticed that Lamas' article said nothing about him failing to attend the ceremony and didn't mention anything about difficulties such as health problems or an oppressive government that could have prevented him from going, but I assumed that this was just an oversight. The article Tim Bolen has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

WP:N -- can't find reliable, secondary sources by which to establish the notability of this weather presenter under WP:GNG.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. je deckertalk 20:45, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

/* Christmas mottos */

The motto idea for those between 25th December and mid January needs consensus dtermined badly on which version should be used for which day or even whether the whole idea should be scrapped or postponed. Please help by discussion and determining consensus at WT:Motto of the day/Nominations#Christmas series and Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/Specials. The deadline is Friday at 9pm UTC. re: 2010 stuff

But what defines a winter storm? What if there is a storm that causes snow, tornadoes, and flooding? Also, what happens if there is a winter storm in, say, September in the Northern Hemisphere? That would be summer, but if there's a lot of snow, then it'd be a "winter storm". As I said in the AFD, Wikipedia is not "lists or repositories of loosely associated topics". If you can't come up with a strict title that makes sense why you are including everything in the article, I suggest you not even bother with the winter/summer storm articles. ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 21:13, 22 December 2010 (UTC)

I messed up. I meant to change 2 links. Apparently I ended up totally reverting you. I didn't mean to do that. I meant to just change despair and misery. Sorry about that. --User:Woohookitty Disamming fool! 16:44, 23 December 2010 (UTC)

Re:WikiCup Rules

Hey, in response to your two questions, the two basic rules with regards to who can claim points for specific pages are that, firstly, the user must have made a "significant contribution" to the article in question during the year, and, secondly, that the user must not be a dick. Basically, if you can honestly say that you've played a real part in getting the article ready for the main page (whether or not you were the one who finally nominated it) then you can claim points. As long as you aren't trying to abuse the system, you'll probably be fine. J Milburn (talk) 21:54, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

On a related note, I will be sending out a "welcome to the WikiCup" note which will summarise rules and procedures in the coming days. J Milburn (talk) 21:55, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
The latter (2011), and almost certainly not. "Drive-by" nominations (as in, nominations of content with which you have not been involved) are not something for which you can claim points (though, of course, they are by no means necessarily bad things). J Milburn (talk) 22:02, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
Reviews at FAC are not awarded points. Good article reviews are. As for claiming points for good or featured articles themselves, anyone who has done "significant work" (typically, just the nominator, though sometimes the nominator and others, sometimes just others) can claim points.
