Hi BRG! I found your name via the m:Association for Inclusionist Wikipedians and thought you might care about this discussion: m:Proposals for closing projects/Radical cleanup of Volapük Wikipedia. In case you agree with us that deleting stubs is not the best way to go for the Volapük Wikipedia, you could help us fight against this proposal with your vote. Another Time, Another Place (television episode)

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Another Time, Another Place (television episode), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you agree with the deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please add {{db-author}} to the top of Another Time, Another Place (television episode). Thanks for starting the Smith Ballew article. I also try to get articles about people from that era, including the "singing cowboys", added to Wikipedia, for example: Jimmy Wakely. I have made some additions to the article. Feel free to take a look and edit as you wish. Thanks. Truthanado (talk) 15:20, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Patti Page

Thank you for your great contributions to Patti Page's article. I have just made her a discography page (if you haven't noticed already) and added more information to her main article. I have recently discovered that you made articles for her albums, but failed to redirect the albums on her page, which makes it nearly impossible to find. Please be more careful when editing articles to make sure her albums are accessible through her page. I have another problem. You have made articles for her albums, but don't have a year for when some of them was released, for example the Patti Page album. I need to know its year, so I can add to her albums table on her discography page, so please tell me on my talk page. There is also a few others, where no year was added. No means to criticize (I'm not trying to), but please remember to add the information to the articles for next time. I'm very glad someone has taken interest in an older singer's article, such as yourself. Dottiewest1fan (talk) 22:19, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Ok, I will add it anyway. You know, I think the Patti Page might be one of her first albums ever, so I think I'll add it there. As I said before, great contributions, thank you for adding some album articles, they're very helpful! I just wanted to be sure about clarifying things. You're a Patti Page fan too? That's great, so am I. I'm getting a box set of her music next month, I can't wait. She is probably the only traditional pop singer I like (I'm a country music editor on wikipedia and am a big fan of mainly that music). I've always been fascinated how her music adds country music melodies too it, I think it was so revolutionary. I do have a question though. Since you're a Patti fan, do you know who was the original singer who recorded "A Poor Man's Roses (Or a Rich Man's Gold)," was it Page or Patsy Cline, who also recorded it the same year and made it a country hit? As I said before, thanks for the contributions. Dottiewest1fan (talk) 02:34, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
So you think Patsy recorded it first, okay just wondering for myself. Thanks a lot. Dottiewest1fan (talk) 16:31, 26 July 2008 (UTC)
Oh great, that's good, very good. Well I'm sure your Polygram CD is correct. If want to make anymore albums, feel free to add them to the Patti Page discography article. Thank you. Dottiewest1fan (talk) 20:54, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

I replied on my talk page, incase you hadn't read this: I think it is perfectly acceptable to have parent categories, according to WP:PROJGUIDE, I think our closest relations would be Wikipedia:WikiProject Music genres, Wikipedia:WikiProject Jazz, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Musical Theatre. Pochhammer Binomial theorem

Dear BRG,

As I was unaware of the existence of a binomial theorem for Pochhammer symbols I derived it myself. Only afterwards did I see that you already mentioned it on the Wikipedia site. Do you know of any standard reference work that I could cite when using this theorem?

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Category:Songs by Anna Sosenko, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Category:Songs by Anna Sosenko has been empty for at least four days, and its only content has been links to parent categories. (CSD C1).

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Category:Songs by Anna Sosenko, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. Welcome to ARS!

Hi, BRG, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron!
Here to help articles tagged for rescue!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated!

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

And once again - Welcome! -- Banjeboi 21:41, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Johnny Mercer

Hi, I have nominated a category you created for renaming. I think it is a contentious nomination and I would like to see your thoughts at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2009 April 18. Thanks. --Richhoncho (talk) 17:54, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your note on my talk page. I can see exactly where you are coming from on this, my consideration was for the whole of the category tree, not JM specifically. If JM was purely a lyricist no problems, but I think that 2 additional, very small (1 and 2 entries respectively and one of them wasn't cat'd properly!)) categories is overkill and denigrates JM's ability as a songwriter. I also wanted to put a stop to where a songwriter wrote both music and lyrics having 2 entries for the same song (as happened in JM's case). I am happy to discuss this and support a re-creation, perhaps the way round it is to create a sub-category "jazz standards by songwriter" or similar. Sorry you missed the CfD discussion, your input was wanted. Let's talk this through and see if we can find a solution that suits JM and similar songwriters and WP categorization. Regards. --Richhoncho (talk) 11:32, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for your further note. I do understand the credit system in the times of JM although I remain sceptical there really was such a division of labour as composer/lyricist as so often suggested, especially when I see "bandleader" and "lyricist" in the same sentence. In fact present day contracts still refer to lyricist and composer - which can be quite important when dividing up any royalties, if for no other reason. I wish I had an idea which we could both approve, I don't and I think the best suggestion is for you to to nominate the existing category for sub-division, as you suggested, lyricist and composer, I wouldn't outrightly oppose, save to say that I think it is overcategorization, but in the case of JM, who is notable in spades, an exception should or could be made. Let's just hope it doesn't open the floodgates for duplicate cats for a bunch of relative unknowns. BTW I am trying to beef up the whole songwriter categories (if nobody wrote the songs, the people who sing them wouldn't be known!), so if you have any pointers where I should be looking I'd appreciate that. Thanks. --Richhoncho (talk) 20:06, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
You can take the matter to Wikipedia:Deletion review. Regards--Richhoncho (talk) 07:36, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for the note, I have responded. --Richhoncho (talk) 20:29, 2 May 2009 (UTC)
No my intention is to link what is already in WP with references (which might be a problem), BTW I use the "official lists" which can be found at ASCAP. Although plenty of things missing from ASCAP, you can rely on what is actually there. Ditto BMI. --Richhoncho (talk) 19:04, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Ricochet

You wrote, "(In at least one case I managed to be able to make a good guess; see Ricochet (song), where I've tried to make it clear that it is a guess, but with good reason.)" and according to that statement it would fail WP:V and WP:OR. It's the words "good guess" that rings my alarm bells. I have no intention of tagging the article as such. Regards, --Richhoncho (talk) 08:06, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Dorcas Cochran

Dorcas Cochran was my maternal great grandmother. I spent a great deal of time with her when she lived in Los Angeles and was able to visit her often in Las Vegas before her death. Her son, Robert Jackson Oakley, was my grandfather and one of the most important people in my life. Thank you very much for your entry, Dorcas was a truly unique character and should be remembered for the wonderful woman she was.

Again, many thanks for your entry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bluebillie (talkcontribs) 04:00, 19 May 2009 (UTC)

RE: The Johnny Mercer rename

Why is Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2009 May 9#Category:Songs with lyrics by Johnny Mercer still an open question? It is clear that nobody except the one person who started the whole thing wants to do the change, but a whole bunch of songs got recategorized as a result of the earlier action, and the question really should be closed so the recategorizations can be reverted. -- BRG (talk) 21:47, 19 May 2009 (UTC) (Please respond on my own talk page.)

Yeah. But even if it's just a procedural nomination, I as nominator shouldn't close it, so somebody else probably can close it. -- King of ♠ 23:23, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Location change (and reservations made) for DC meetup

I stopped by TGI Friday's this evening and was less than impressed. They apparently don't take reservations, except perhaps if you call 24 hours ahead of time. The staff was not so helpful, and the menu has hardly anything vegetarian which is an issue for some people.

So, I checked out the Bertucci's pizza/Italian place across the street (21st & I St NW). Their staff couldn't have been more helpful, and think it will be fairly quiet so we will be able to hear each other. So, reservations are made for Bertucci's at 5pm on Saturday. --Aude (talk) 02:38, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

Merge/separation of different versions of the same song.

As somebody who appears to be interested in song articles you might be interested to know there is a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Songs/coverversions with the purpose of trying to establish a standard rule for merge/separation of different versions of the same song. You are invited to comment. Regards,--Richhoncho (talk) 02:17, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the note on talk page, much appreciated. We didn't actually disagree about Mercer, it was how WP categorised him. When I first looked at the songwriter categories there were people who had written words and music for ONE song and had 2 categories, one for composition, and another for lyrics. Unfortunately there always will now, until somebody else picks up the baton. OTOH Mercer deserves 2 cats! --Richhoncho (talk) 21:56, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

Volunteer opportunity in Bethesda, Thursday, July 16

The Wikimedia Foundation will be conducting an all-day Academy at the National Institutes of Health, in Bethesda, Maryland, on Thursday, July 16. The team that will be teaching at the Academy, a mix of paid staff and volunteers, is looking for four more volunteers to be teaching assistants, providing one-to-one assistance in workshops whenever a workshop participant has a problem following the instructional directions. (We currently have two editors signed up as teaching assistants, and are looking for a total of six.)

The NIH editing workshops are only for two hours, but volunteers are asked to meet the Wikimedia Foundation team at the hotel in Bethesda at about 7:15 a.m. (time to be finalized shortly) and to stay for the entire day, which ends at 4:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided. (The full schedule can be found here.)

The team is not necessarily looking for expert editors (though they are welcome), just people who can help novices who might get stuck when trying to do some basic things. If you've been an editor for at least 3 months, and have done at least 500 edits, you probably qualify.

If you're interested, please send John Broughton an email. If you might be interested, but would like further information, please post a note on his user talk page, so that he can respond there, and others can see what was asked.

Films by composers.

Thinking about your special interests in music and most the people you are interested in are film score composers I thought it would be a useful category to have. Any thoughts? Regards, --Richhoncho (talk) 07:07, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

Your wikki philosophy...

Put a smile on my face. As someone working on the Shirley Bassey discography I have noticed a few of the the deletion-happy youngins who probably have never heard of many traditional pop stars. They usually have the rules on their side, so I'm not complaining. But with so many on the deletion side of the equation, it is nice to read about someone who is on the inclusion side.--Nyctc7 (talk) 14:36, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for your reply...I defer to your knowledge about whether the deletionists are on solid ground with some of their activity...perhaps I was giving credit where it is not due. While I think the page patrollers do an important job to keep self-promotion, gibberish, copyright violations, etc., off of wikipedia, I do think that being a "deletionist" is rather strange, as if Wiki was some kind of exclusive club. But I have read the articles on both schools, and find I agree with points in both camps!--Nyctc7 (talk) 15:43, 23 October 2009 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Collectors' Choice Music requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about an organization or company, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for organizations and companies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Collectors' Choice Music

The flags added to Collectors' Choice Music were using a program called AWB or Autowiki Browser. I use it to scan articles and automatically add flags for improvement. For instance, it adds an orphan flag if there are less than three links leading to an article (although it's really bad at removing the orphan flags, hence why I don't use it for such). With regards to the Wikify tag, I believe it automatically adds them when there are less than three external links leading away from a page (it adds a deadend tag if there are none).

Anyway, I added a wikilink to bring it to the minimum, and removed the tag. The Wikify tag can also apply in cases where the layout isn't very good, but this isn't applicable in this case.

Songs by year...

Rather than let your proposal die, I have put a message on Steelbeard's talkpage to ask him for further comments/objections to the proposal. As he was the major objector and I suspect he is not willing to argue against the proposal we could reasonable write a guideline (taking into consideration 2 songs with the same title released the same year) and make it a policy. What do you think? I am ignoring all further comments on credited/actual writers, but I do thank you for your comment regarding multiple releases of same song. I have responded on the project talkpage. --Richhoncho (talk) 20:04, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

The Project page says, "WikiProject Songs is a project intended to improve articles on songs. The goal is to make the song articles provide basic information in a quick and easy-to-read fashion. This project is based on WikiProject Albums, and uses similar templates. Its 'parent' project is WikiProject Music. A lot of this project has been lifted directly from the Albums project. This project is not yet fully defined, so feel free to modify and clarify it." I don't see what else we need, Steelbeard has had a message for a couple of days and not responded. Just go for it. You have one definate supporter and several so-so backers. Needs to be written, that's all. --Richhoncho (talk) 20:57, 10 December 2009 (UTC)

Any ideas on wording if there are 2 songs with the same title in the same year (The Power of Love has been cited)? --Richhoncho (talk) 13:16, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

Trouble with your suggestion is when you have more than half a dozen writers, can't see that being approved. Perhaps by songwriter if less than X characters, by artist if the artist is also a contributor to the songwriting, failing that.... I think I can run it through as non-contentious - see my extract above. --Richhoncho (talk) 17:38, 14 December 2009 (UTC)

MIA

If you consider working full time, starting my Masters degree and teaching a class this semester to be vanishing, then I am guilty! Hope to see you at the next meetup. My schedule is a bit more free these next few months, luckily, I'll reenter the webosphere and maybe we can meetup with Feanorstar and Ben as discussed.rocketrye12 talk/contribs 21:44, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
