Silent films

Hi and welcome to WP! Thank you for your excellent work on expanding articles on silent films. You might be interested in the Film Project too. Thanks again. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 08:14, 10 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lugnuts, you once complimented me on my talk page for the good work I was doing on editing wikipedia articles. I was wondering if you could possibly help me with a problem i'm having. A rival editor who likes to eliminate editors who edit his favorite subjects accused me of being a sockpuppet, because I was using a shared computer in a retail bookstore to access wikipedia. There were several other wiki-editors using the store's public computer to go online, and all of them have also been accused of sockpuppetry. Meanwhile we all have our own wiki accounts. Is there any way you can help? The guy even got the bookstore owner's computer blocked! Thanks for your time.BigBoyWilliams (talk) 17:36, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for July 2

An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Dr. Jekyll y el Hombre Lobo, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Jack Taylor.

Ok it's fixed. Thanks!

Unblock request - I got caught up in someone else's block!

Request reason:

Can someone please help me unblock my wikipedia account? I apparently got caught up in a sock puppet investigation because I access the internet through a public computer (a shared IP) located in a bookstore near my home. I don't own a computer at my home. I have never had anyone file a complaint against me regarding my editing on wiki~pedia, no one has ever accused me of vandalism or anything like that. I was just caught up in this sock puppet thing, but I have my own account, I am not a sockpuppet. I have always enjoyed editing wikipedia and I have always tried to do my best working on the various articles. I don't know what the other blocked people did wrong, but I'm not involved in it. My account has always been clean of criticism. Please look at my account history and you will see that I have never been accused of doing anything wrong on wikipedia.BigBoyWilliams (talk) 23:16, 10 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

There's substantial overlap in the editing of the blocked accounts. It does seem possible that this is a shared IP, though. The problem is that I'm not really sure how you'd prove that you're not a sock puppet if you're using a shared computer and editing the same topics. @EdJohnston: was there anything overt going on? Like edit warring from multiple accounts? If it's just a group of people editing the same articles, and none of them are being disruptive, maybe they could be unblocked with a warning to closely follow Wikipedia's policy on sockpuppetry, especially the parts about meat puppetry and sharing an IP address. For example, publicly disclosing that they're all working together on the same articles. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 01:03, 11 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The book and movie store has been operating for over 35 years and the owner was letting a few of his best customers use his IP to access wikipedia. These guys are all long time movie buffs and for years have been collecting horror dvds and videos, so there was a lot of editing overlap, but they were all friends, they weren't edit warring with each other. I dont know why it's so surprising that a group of film collectors who have been patronizing the same store for so many years would share an interest in similar movies? If they didn't have interests in common, why would they even associate with each other? Now the bookstore owner's IP has even been blocked and none of the people involved in this incident were ever accused of any wrongdoing, other than this absurd sockpuppet charge. Thank you for the links, I will read the info. Thanks for your consideration.

@NinjaRobotPirate: , I've been observing these unblock requests and the only thing that strikes me is that it's as if after each unblock request, there is a new one on one of the other accounts near by requesting an unblock. Some of these accounts which haven't been editing from months to a year. Each request is almost written in the same way of stating they have been nevenrcomitted vandalism or abused multiple accounts, but no one can explain edits like this here where one of the banned users is removing talk page warnings from another user's account. something that all these editors tend to do is have a clean slate when warnings are placed on their talk page. It might not mean anything, but it's something I can't help but ignore. Andrzejbanas (talk) 16:42, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think all the admins involved are aware of this. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 17:08, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
