Matia Bazar[edit]

Sure; I'll give it a shot tomorrow sometime. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 01:33, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the congratulations - I've got another article in the DYK pipeline, and hopefully will get around to some more translations from the French pretty soon. And creations from whole cloth; there's a whole world of twentieth-century church architecture missing, from the French Wikipedia as well as the English.
Excellent work on the coffee article, by the way...but then, you always do excellent work, so why should this be any different? :) --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 01:42, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely. It's why I've averaged about one or two a day over the past few days, when I've written any at all. There's just too much to be done to worry about doing it all yourself. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 01:55, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Aimée Antoinette Camus[edit]

Re:DYK[edit]

What? I crossed out my objection. Was there something else you wanted me to do? Thingg 17:01, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, ok. I commented that I thought the article was fine, but you may want to contact the other person who raised an objection. Thingg 18:22, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
no, no. Someone else said something about the article not being cited well enough. As it stands now, I think the article is fine for DYK, but I don't know if that guy's comment was preventing it from going "live." Thingg 18:25, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fallingrain[edit]

Yes, we all know Fallingrain always messes up the population--I first discount that. And it may sometimes mess up the elevation a bit--but we don't discount Maplandia with the coordinates. Sure there can be the occasional error, but in the long run, it's better to use than not. I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 17:50, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Good good, I'll be working on Nkhotakota--I'm pretty sure a lot can be written about this town. I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 17:57, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not right now sorry--I'm working on Nkhotakota (check the differences betweenbefore I came and now). Yes it is important to have images depicting these towns, but IMO they should only have one image (not including a map) unless there is enough context to fill another one! I think I'll nominate Nkhotkota for DYK now--anything you can do to the article is appreciated. Even though these are developing countries, I can't believe people when they say nothing can be written about this. Hell, I'd venture to say that all the articles on Mozambique/Malawi that you, me and EJF have worked on (Inhambane, Xai Xai, Monkey Bay, Nkhata Bay, Cape Maclear, Mchinji and now this) are better than some American towns of the same size--and Nkhotakota isn't even done yet! Good idea. Them provinces are usually huge, so, like the stub proposal this would be a good idea. I have this cool automated tool called HotCat for faster recatting. --I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 23:51, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mountains etc.[edit]

I love encyclopedias like that - they're such fun to wander into. Thanks for the compliments about the church; I actually found it while researching a French architect who designed a particularly nice lighthouse in Dunkirk (actually I should work something up on him and it both, soon). Funny how those things come up.

Haven't had time to do much translating today, as work was a madhouse; I'll try and maybe do some tonight. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 23:09, 1 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I've had people come in and try to speedy some of the stubs I've created before. Mostly on old cars that don't have very good coverage online, but which I developed from entries in an old automotive encyclopedia. It's tiresome. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 01:31, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Burkina Faso encyclopedia[edit]

And that's a government site too, so I don't think that the content can be doubted. Presumably, everyone there gets at least one notability point from inclusion there. I don't doubt myself that they're all notable. Maybe what we could try to do, with several projects, is try to revive the Missing encyclopedic articles project and, at the very least, create lists for the various projects of articles that are still missing. The Architecture and Burkina Faso projects could use that list of architects, for instance. Certainly, it couldn't hurt. John Carter (talk) 00:49, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Question about image[edit]

Hi Blofeld, Could you please have a look at this image of Arthur O'Connell which has a public domain tag on it. I'm going to replace it with a free image from the Bus Stop trailer, but I was wondering if this is tagged correctly. It couldn't have been published before 1923 as O'Connell is clearly more than 15 years old in the picture. It may be public domain, but I couldn't find the source. Could you check, and if it's not tagged correctly, could you fix it please. Thanks Rossrs (talk) 14:20, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

On earthquakes[edit]

Hi Blofeld. Well, we obviously disagree on if the article has "filled its potential" yet, but for your comment on the peer review, I actually wanted to skip that stage and go to the FAC, which would de facto function as one. It is hard to find anything on this quake which is not in seismic jargon, and thus this will not be as big asseveral other articles, but I feel it has (or is incredibly close to) reaching FA status, compared to tropical cyclne articles. Yes, 2003 Bam is on my to do list, and I would appreciate your collaboration, but when I wrote this article, I felt like showing the world that something can reach FA status wuithin days of its creation, and to put down editors who think nothing really important can be written about it. True, I elevated 1992 Iran to GA within days of beeing a sppedy nominee, but that one had no possible hope of reaching FA status. This one does. --I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 14:29, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Armenia[edit]

I didn't want to take matters in hand, but no consensus was evolving and I had created lots of redlinks in various dabs, hatdabs, etc., for Armenia, in anticipation of a quick addition of thos articles, and since the bot wouldn't do it, and there were only 1100 or so, I just decided to go ahead, not difficult really, just tedious. Reply[edit]

As I said, you are not that familiar with the topic. I have removed what was very non-notable, and I believe Rahul agrees with me. If you don't, go and revert. ShahidTalk2me 17:11, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I explained it very well in the edit summary. If Rahul had disagreed, he would probably have said that to me. And I think it's unnecessary to add details which belong to the film article rather than Kapoor's one. "The film was criticised...." - and who cares? If you don't even bother to describe her role and the actress herself and how she herself was received, does the film's reception matter at all? Definitely not. The Asoka part for example is IMO well written and does make sense. Apart from that, some films are not at all notable in her career, so their mention should be stricted to one-two sentences. Secondly, I'd placed a long post on Rahul's talk, which you had also seen. I have no time to be as present as it requires. I promised to help Rahul, and that's what I did even though I'm very busy. So what's my fault? ShahidTalk2me 17:28, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
"If you could elaborate a litte on the talk page of what should or shouldn't be included this would be very useful and would help me keep track of progression" - see this - you saw this, you even replied, agreed, and said it's fine by you. ShahidTalk2me 17:32, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Also can't get why you always leave the same message in several talk pages. You left me a message, I can't get why you left the same message on Rahul's talk. It is as if you are trying to make me look bad in front of other editors, when all I'm trying to do is help. ShahidTalk2me 17:44, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I have to go. You know my time is limited. Now please have a glance at your message again. You didn't even say hello when we hadn't talked for over a week. ShahidTalk2me 18:07, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Blofeld, I removed our conversation from Rahul's page, I always notice you posting the same messages on several talks, and in this case this is certainly not nice of you. I shifted it to my talk.
Secondly. My interest on here is Bollywood, therefore Kareena also counts, and I want the article to become GA just like all of you. I can edit it whenever I want to, and I don't have to start a talk discussion (although I actually did), unless I've done something drastic or incorrect or reverted someone's work. And OK, I see that you got the mistaken impression that I don't consider you as someone who has to receive explanations, but you saw the long post I'd placed on this talk page here, you replied, commented, and said it's fine by you, so you can't accuse me of ignoring you. You are doing great copyedits, but you are not as familiar with the topic as other editors here. I think all of your additions are brilliant, but not all of them are needed.
I saw Refugee on the day of its release and have always been aware of her work, therefore I can assure you that I'm doing things, the necessity of which I can be completely sure of. You don't even seem to be having a problem with my edits, you are just offended that I hadn't turned to you before. And could also tell you the same when you edited it. I've worked on this article many a time and copyedited it too. I think the Asoka part is well written and does make sense, but some films (e.g Yaadein, Ajnabee) are not at all notable in her career, so their mention should be stricted to one-two sentences, if not avoided. I think it's unnecessary to add details which belong to the film article rather than Kapoor's one. "The film was criticised...." - and who cares? If you don't even bother to describe her role and the actress herself and how she herself was received, does the film's reception matter at all? Definitely not. It can at times add some interest and style, but in this case it's just too much. OTOH, the fact that MDK was a failure does matter, cause it had been highly anticipated by the public and critics alike.
I'm very busy, but despite that I tried to help, because I promised Rahul I would. Seeing your BOOM message on my talk page without even saying hello Shahid how are youuuuuuuu? was not a pleasant watch. ShahidTalk2me 20:19, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's what you think? After all the times I've come to you with "please Blof help me copyedit Zinta", and "what do you think about this and about this sentence" and "how IYO it looks best to rewrite it?" - how can you? I think you are very familiar with Bollywood, but not Kareena herself. She has been going through many ups and downs in her career, and only those who followed her can understand it. I think you're a brilliant writer/cpeditor, and I think you've done a brilliant job - the only thing I did was removing a few sentences which IMO don't belong there. So you should be learning even more, just like I have learned from you many times. In this case, it should be left between us, not Rahul. ShahidTalk2me 21:44, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Blof!! How've you been? LOL! It's quite funny because in fact you have created Bollywood film articles more than any other editor. so you know. I'm happy to see your last message, best regards. ShahidTalk2me 21:59, 5 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lost in translation?[edit]

Something like, I shouldn't wonder.

I've been looking to my own for the present, though - there are a surprising number of Virginia communities missing articles, and I've been working on improving some coverage in that arena. Did most of the ones for Madison County, Virginia yesterday - I want to clean up Accomack County, Virginia today. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 13:16, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In a way, it doesn't surprise me - a lot of those little towns have almost no coverage online. The only reason I know about Banco and Criglersville, for instance, is that I've actually been through both on the way to Syria. Otherwise they're rather uneventful places, even if in a gorgeous location. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 14:11, 7 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia is Good, Elite is not[edit]

Wikipedia to date is a great project and i am proud i once collaborated in this wonderful project that is changing life of people. Unfortunatley it is fallen in the hands of corrupt management like you. Strategically preventing third world countries from joining wiki events, denying them scholarships. If you are that much of a wiki lover and third world friend, ask you archbishop jimmy wales if he got emails by me or not. You maybe be smart but your bigotry won't hide for long. Its like aid to africa that never reach there. You spoiled eggs are giving wikipedia a bad name. Leave this noble cause alone losers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Minhaaj (talkcontribs) 04:48, 11 July 2008

I don't think it is sufficient for survival... Do you? What is the maximum total you can earn from it? ShahidTalk2me 12:22, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey Blof I took some time to expand a paragraph in Zinta's article.
"Depicting the contemporary routine life of Indian affluent youth, it is set in modern-day urban Mumbai and focuses on a major period of transition in the lives of three young friends.[22] Zinta starred as Aamir Khan's love interest, Shalini. According to critics, the film broke new ground by showing Indian youth as they are today. Despite the critical reception, it was a moderate box office success; it performed well in the urban areas of the country and failed in the rural areas,[23] which was attributed by critics to the city-oriented lifestyle depicted in the movie."
Please tell me, how does it sound? ShahidTalk2me 15:19, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh I myself got confused now because I was wondering if words like only can be used. And now I'm torn between both sides. I think I shouldn't have started it, but anyway, thank you -- I'll try to find more sources. ShahidTalk2me 15:49, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
According to you modern-day and contemporary mean the same? ShahidTalk2me 15:51, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Do you think dropping Mumbai would be OK? The story itself does not take place in Mumbai only but in different cities in India, as well as Australia!! ;) ShahidTalk2me 16:00, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OHHH MYYY GODDD!!! You are not the first one to call me perfectionist!!!! Many call me like that, and I'm surprised that you identify that in me... Ohhh well..... So you say it's not a big deal if I remove Mumbai???? (sorry for badgering you... you know me LOL) ShahidTalk2me 16:10, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry - me again - you say - "It performed well in Indian cities but failed in the rural areas" - it's obviously Indian cities, what do you think about replacing Indian with big? ShahidTalk2me 17:20, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey that's great, I'll have a look.
Now last time, so what do you think about: "a moderate box office success in India; it performed well in big cities but failed in the rural areas"? ShahidTalk2me 17:27, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well that was the problem - it performed well in big cities but flopped in interiors. ShahidTalk2me 17:35, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much Mister Blofblofblof.... ;) and thank for developing the lists. ShahidTalk2me 17:41, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey I think awards are not that of a big deal. Take 1975, Deewar won the Filmfare Best Film Award and Sholay lost. Not only did Sholay lost - it won only one Filmfare award for best Screenplay, which is a joke. For other uses, we have the list of Top Bollywood films which is fine by me, but if a summary is that needed, I think a list of 5-6 top grossing films is good. I would love to do it, but I'm extremely busy. I only come at times to revert vandalism, and yesterday I had some time to work, but my time is limited and certainly won't let me stay for so long (unfortunately)... Regards, ShahidTalk2me 12:21, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Boxofficeindia should be fine. ShahidTalk2me 12:25, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Nett Gross always. Don't think it's needed though - the gross can be somehow different in different sites, but the ranking is almost equal always, mentioning 5-6 top grossing is perfectly fine - you can also use List of Top Bolly Films. Though I loved the you did it here, it takes a lot of work buddy... ShahidTalk2me 12:34, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey they seem to have updated the numbers also of the past yrs. It onnly proves how reliable they are. Hey have I told you that one of them had sent me a mail????? ShahidTalk2me 12:38, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, didn't see her I'm afraid! Just back from Switzerland and London this afternoon and well relaxed from the Alpine hiking. I was mostly in the Canton of Berne and northern Valais. Unfortunately I lost my camera at the Jungfraujoch so I'm afraid I can't add upload any photos to Commons, but most of central Switzerland seems to be fairly well covered with images anyway. Hey buddy!! How are you doing?? Particularly thanks to your help, Kapoor's article has made a lot of improvement over the past few weeks. However, though majority of the article has improved, I feel that the "In the media" section needs to be re-written, something along the lines of the way it is written on Ms. Jolie and Ms. Zinta's pages. Could you offer me some tips on how to re-write it?? If you have some suggestions, please feel free to let me know!! BTW, if you think of a way to re-write it, go ahead and add it in!! :-D Thanks in advance!! Best Regards --Bollywood Dreamz Talk 02:54, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

She is one of the best actresses that I have ever seen, and throughout her career was constantly voted by polls as the most beautiful actress of Bollywood, but she has somehow changed. But it's not only this, I hate this "journalist" who could make such a dreadful post at her expense, in order to attract more readers. See the differences, it saddens me a lot, and see the talkbacks - many of the readers got angry with him too. ShahidTalk2me 13:37, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes you're right but there are women who look even better without makeup. Take Kareena Kapoor, she may not be as beautiful, but I think she looks much better without makeup. And Madhuri Dixit, she is just amazing and it doesn't matter is she's with or without makeup... ShahidTalk2me 14:50, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Man you're right!!! Tabu looks very nice - and she is a great actress. You know, every Indian actress you mention pops up in my mind in two aspects: looks and acting... So I have some sort of private and unique view of everyone... In case of Zinta for example, she is not only a good looking woman and an amazing actress, she is a woman of substance, a businesswoman, a cricket team owner, an educated and intelligent person, bubbly and full of life. And above all, an honest person, she is not afraid expressing her opinions whatever they are, be it about confronting journalists or testifying against the mafia, and all this complex can be called -- as you so precisely called her once -- a woman who kicks ass LOL!!!
Hey and how's Mother India according to you? It's funny that her real-life husband played her son - this caused many controversies at the time. ShahidTalk2me 15:38, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah Blofeld!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am nervous yet excited!! Do you think it will pass?? :- I BTW Blofeld, since you nominated the article for a GA, could you please add it on the Kapoor's talk page?? It would look weird if I add it!! --Bollywood Dreamz Talk 01:07, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey you must see how Rekha is thrown off the boat... CROCODILE!!! They made her so ugly here. ShahidTalk2me 13:16, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
And here she is a whole new person - that's after the plastic surgery - just gorgeous! Her kids cry on her shoulders without being aware of her being their mother. ShahidTalk2me 13:26, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Have you seen the second part where she is beautiful? And where do you know Kabir Bedi from? ShahidTalk2me 14:07, 12 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
She definitely is - is this the same girl in all images? (apart from Zinta, of course LOL. ShahidTalk2me 16:01, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gangtey Gonpa[edit]

Hi - I've added some info and a pic to the Gangtey Gonpa article you created on July 5th. BTW "Gonpa" means monastery. Chris Fynn (talk) 15:03, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The co-ordinates on some of the Bhutan articles look all wrong. Compare for instance where Wangdue Phodrang appears on the inset map with its location on any other map of Bhutan e.g. [1] or [2]. Chris Fynn (talk) 17:00, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Paavo_Hukkinen.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Paavo_Hukkinen.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Rettetast (talk) 19:57, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Use of "Transliterations" on infobox settlement[edit]

Hi Blofeld of SPECTRE,
Hope all is well across the pond.
It was brought to my attention that the use of the word "transliteration(s)" in infobox Settlement may not be appropriate (for lack of a better word); e.g. Lhasa and Dêlêg. Since you were the one who initiated this original change, does it make sense to you and if so, would it be ok to drop the word "transliteration(s)" from displaying in the infobox. I'm not sure if there is a better word to replace it; maybe "transcription"? This all transcends for a discuss that you maybe interested in anyway at Template talk:Infobox Korean settlement#Why not use infobox settlement?MJCdetroit (yak) 16:17, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CHange it to transcription then. As long as the parameters aren't removed. Oh dear is there a national pride thing at stake agian with changing infoboxes? ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:21, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'll bring it up on that page. Thanks, —MJCdetroit (yak) 16:24, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Switching template on Lebanon settlements/removal of Categories[edit]

Hi, I noticed you've been replacing the Lebanon-specific city template with the generic one. I'm generally okay with that... I authored the Lebanon-specific city template, but if there are reasons to change it, that's fine. However, the specific template also added the settlements to specific categories, which are now empty, and which you've subsequently put up for deletion. Can you please go through and manually add those categories to the pages where you removed the template (and, in doing so, the category), whether it be the same category or some equivalent one? Thanks! ← George [talk] 20:28, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No worries, I'll sit back and watch you work your magic. My watchlist is flooded with changes at the moment anyways, as I watch just about every Lebanon-related topic. :) At the end of the day, what will be the categorization for a given village in Lebanon? Two categories - one for villages in a given district, and one for villages in a given governorate - or just one category? I'd like to have the double categorization if possible, as the difference can be important (in voting for instance), and the local people identify themselves with both their governorate and district. It's even a stronger relationship than how cities in the US are parts of both counties and states. ← George [talk] 20:38, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh yes, consistency and order are much appreciated by me. That's why I had initially created the custom template - to try to achieve some semblance of order and consistency more efficiently (hence the auto-categorization). But it seems you have much better tools than I, and don't need such a hackish approach, so by all means have at it! ← George [talk] 20:43, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Cleared 'em out BoS(S), let me know if any got missed? Keeper | 76 | what's in a name? 20:52, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks keeper. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:53, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think the only thing I'm unsure of is if it makes more sense to categorize them by governorate or by district, if I had to choose one. It's similar to me asking you where you live, and you only being able to choose either the name of the city, or of the state/district, or of the country as a response. I'm just not sure which the locals use more often to categorize themselves (as I've heard both used repeatedly), so I'll go with the flow on this one. ← George [talk] 21:01, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh, great, thanks! Watching you work hurts my wrists. :) ← George [talk] 21:02, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, very nice to meet you too, and great job - everything is much cleaner now! I'll try to follow your format in any additions I make, and protect them from the random revert from people who only watch their town and miss the bigger picture. I'm sure myself and WP Lebanon could use lots of help, as there is a lot to cover and far too few and inactive editors to cover it, so I may just take you up on your offer, and anything you see that could use cleaning up is most welcome. I live in the US myself, and don't speak Arabic or French (being half-Lebanese, but born and raised in the US), so getting information about things like districts & governorates in Lebanon is relatively difficult, but I do agree that it's important we move past the everything-as-stub phase. Hopefully it's just a matter of time, with the region seemingly settling down with a new government now, before better, more up-to-date information is available from Lebanon electronically. ← George [talk] 21:23, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds great. Thanks again for taking care of this. ← George [talk] 22:21, 14 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Looks great man, keep up the good work! :) ← George [talk] 23:16, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank You ;)[edit]

Hey Blofeld, there is good news buddy!! Yesterday, Kareena Kapoor's article was promoted to a GA and it's all thanks to your and Shahid's help!! Thanks for all your help and contributions to the article buddy!! I really appreciate what you have done to help me with the article!! Best Regards -- Bollywood Dreamz talk 01:29, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks friend!! Indeed, I would really like Kapoor's article to go all the way but as of now, I am happy that the article is a GA. Let's see what the future has in store. Maybe next summer, we can try bringing the article up to a FA!! ;))) Best Regards -- Bollywood Dreamz talk 17:04, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
LOL... Well, I will be leaving for vacation during the week of July 27 - Aug 3 so there goes a week. Furthermore, there will only be a month left until I start University again. Do you think a month is enough in bringing an article to a FA?? When I start University in Sept, my visits on Wikipedia will reduce a lot!!! :((( BTW, what kind of sources do you need and why do you need them?? Let me know and I'll try to find them!! As for a peer review, that is the most important thing we need to do!!! As a matter of fact, I was thinking of putting the article up for a peer review before nominating it for a GA. :)) -- Bollywood Dreamz talk 17:16, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to bother you again buddy but I needed to go through something with you. Remember, I told you that I wanted to rewrite Kapoor's "In the media" section... well yesterday, I came up with a brief intro to that section. Here it is: ("Although Kapoor made her acting debut in 2000 in the film Refugee, coming from a film oriented family, she was introduced to the media at a very young age. As a teenager, Kapoor used to attend award functions with her mother Babita and sister Karisma Kapoor, as well as accompany her sister on her shooting schedules. Known in the media for openly talking about her on-screen or off-screen life, Kapoor quickly became a tabloid's favorite when she entered the film industry in 2000.") - This is just a rough sketch of what I am planning to add. What do you think of it?? -- Bollywood Dreamz talk 17:26, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Can you think of a better way to re-write the last sentence?? I used this and this as my main sources. -- Bollywood Dreamz talk 17:51, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, thanks!!! :))) That's why before I added that part to the article, I wanted to go through it with you and Shahid. BTW, if you don't mind... I was thinking of adding all the sources after we finalize the things that will be added to that section. -- Bollywood Dreamz talk 17:58, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Blofeld, the last sentence in the first paragraph sounds a bit awkward. What are you trying to say?? -- Bollywood Dreamz talk 18:07, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
"Over the past several years, Kapoor has developed a nonchalant relationship with the media and has gained a reputation for discussing her on-screen or off-screen life with the press without any reservations." - hey Blof this is just brilliant. ShahidTalk2me 18:19, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think I would also like to see somehow the reason behind it included: "... Media speculations made Kapoor develop a nonchalant relationship with the media, as a result of which she has gained a reputation...." - just a thought... ?? ShahidTalk2me 18:28, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Blofeld, I am not mad at you for editing the article!! I would never be mad at you!! :)) Why would I be mad at you?? You've helped Kapoor's article reach the place it is today!! I owe everything to you. I was just indicating that it is very confusing when people tell you what to add on the article. -- Bollywood Dreamz talk 18:42, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not at all!! As a matter of fact, I am honoured to have an experienced editor like you helping me with the article!! ;) BTW, I am really sorry if what I said offended you. I didn't mean it that way!! -- Bollywood Dreamz talk 18:54, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it might be just that they felt that things weren't right for them anymore. However, I feel that her father initially wanted both Kapoor and her sister not to go into acting because of the reason you gave, leading to their parents' separation. When her sister got into films, she didn't have the support of her family lineage and was basically looked upon as an outsider. However, when success came Karisma Kapoor's way, everyone began to pay attention to her, which led to the industry and the Kapoor clan supporting Kareena when she debuted. When Kapoor debuted, her sister was at the peak of her career. That is why at any award functions, both the sisters only thank their mother for supporting them and bringing them to the place they are today. -- Bollywood Dreamz talk 19:18, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Blof I think your last edits to the lead section were unnecessary - the lead looks huge now. Minor details like her parents' name, her first co-star, her birth place belong to the rest of the article - saying that she was born to the Kapoor family is enough. Also, terms like "to date" are discouraged per Tony, "prestigious family" is a peacock etc. ShahidTalk2me 21:25, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeh LOL that's why I came to you first before you get mad at me again hehehe!!! Good job! ShahidTalk2me 21:33, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
One question though - is this amazing book (which you had already shown me back in time) really Encyclopedia Britannica? I also have it cited on Zinta BTW... ShahidTalk2me 21:39, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! LOL!!! I missed that so much - ::::)))))
I wouldn't want to see another FAC anytime soon - two DIFFICULT FACs constitute a sufficient period to get exhauted. Only you were there to understand completely how difficult it was.... ShahidTalk2me 21:45, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Amazing book! LOL remember when you showed me the book for the first time? I was so excited.... ShahidTalk2me 21:53, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You will be drawned - all the POV pushers are absent! What's happened? LOL!! I'll send you an e-mail later... ShahidTalk2me 21:56, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good night man! ShahidTalk2me 21:59, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I cpedited the article - the most difficult part being to compose a new, short and yet informative plot for Chameli.
Well, Blof, I have other problem though. I see you added a paragraph for a cricket team being named after her in "In The Media" section. Don't know if that's at all notable, because Bollywood is full of such cases, but it surely isn't for this section - it has nothing to do with media. ? ShahidTalk2me 22:54, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for all your help Blofeld. There are no words left to express my gratitude!! Regarding the peer review, I also feel that it is necessary to have one a.s.a.p. However, I don't know how to start one. :(( Although I will be asking Shahid to start one, you can start one if you want to. It doesn't matter who peer reviews it as long as it is peer reviewed. LOL ;))) Regards -- Bollywood Dreamz talk 02:35, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Peer review has started here. ShahidTalk2me 09:34, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeh it's winter here - but you have to drink liters of water - be careful cause it's not a joke. ShahidTalk2me 10:36, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Blofeld[edit]

Blofeld if you want to express your opinion so say that frankly and honestly, please don't talk behind my back. I'm fed up with you leaving messages on others' talk pages saying things about me and trying to make me look bad. It's great that you edit the article and improve it but it doesn't mean that everything you do is correct. First of all, saying "the film was partly shot in England and one of the location was" is one piece of unnecessary detail, and even if it's added, there is no need to source it, and even if it's sourced, no need to source it with a book reference just because you wanna impress reviewers (which actually won't do that). You also made many changes which were modifications of my edits, you also violated WP:OR, WP:V, WP:MOS - so please tell me if you want me to stay out - I have much better things to do than help improve articles and see how my work is thrown back at my face.

Also - the Chameli part, I took 10 minutes to compose it and to convert into one sentence - because a plot should not be written in more than one sentence - that's what I got from my experience with other aritcles. And if you see, I did not revert your edits. I think it's brilliant that editors can work together and opinions can come to fruition. Only do you think that everything you do is the final act. But it isn't, and see how it has improved as a result of your, Rahul's and my edits altogether.

All my modifications were correct - does it matter what her father said? Definitely not - if you remove the quote - you will see that with or without the quote the message is the same. I won't remove it, but I already can imagine other editors calling to remove this stupid quote, and I will be one of them BTW, because it's WP:UNDUE.ShahidTalk2me 11:04, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm VERY SORRY if I was rude but you shall understand because it offended me a lot - the Chameli part was long and odd - so I worked on it. I don't wanna sound like of of all those POV pushers but I do feel and predict what they themselves will say - I don't want Rahul to go through what I have gone through - he is too good. I think the article only improves - your copyedits and additions and the modifications/formats of Rahul and me only make it better. You wanna mention England - great, but why if it's a production note? And if after all you still thing that it's needed, why sourcing it? And if a source, why a book? Too much is going here - and I'm looking at it as someone who can predict reviewers' comments. I don't wanna point names - but not all the Wikipedians here are as kind as you are, and certain Wikipedians would oppose and even strongly if you now took it to FAC. ShahidTalk2me 11:29, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Blof you know that I usually don't come with such a tone - the last message I left you re cricket - it was very Shahid, very calm, as you know me. Only today did I get very offended upon seeing your message on Rahul's talk. I may have exaggerated, but I was shocked. So I again apologise. ShahidTalk2me 11:53, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think the phrase "In an interview with Encyclopedia Britannica" can be somehow inserted anyway because it does give some credibility - well we'll work on it later - I must go now. Have a great day and dring a lot of water. ShahidTalk2me 11:57, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to add "partly shot in England" - it's fine by me - but a source (whether web or book) is just unnecessary - anybody can notice that. It can be used in the film article itself. Another problem, mentioning Oxford is a bit too much - because it had only a couple of scenes out there (have you seen the film? I recommend), and there were other locations as well - so it will be a clear attempt to attract readers. A major part of the shooting took place in Chandni Chowk, but you wouldn't mention it, would you? These are very specific locations. I remember trying to add to Zinta that Salaam Namaste was the first Indian film to be entirely shot in Australia, but someone reverted, claiming it is a production note, and does not belong. So I think we can add it was shot partly in England, but that too, without a source. ? ShahidTalk2me 13:23, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Well re Zinta, I still think that the fact that it was the first Indian film to be entirely shot in Australia is needed, because it's kind of a record, but maybe it's not a big deal, and it will also be very difficult considering everything is already well copedited there...
As for Kapoor, yeh - it's fine to add Englnd... ShahidTalk2me 13:52, 16 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, can you take a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christine_breese and put in your vote to keep or delete, I am rather outnumbered by some non-spiritual bullies, could use someone who has a co-operative energy to look into the matter on a spiritual teacher article. Also please look into another article that was deleted that has been there for years at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_metaphysical_sciences but was deleted by a user as soon as I linked to it. Amazing...[edit]

Great work. These images are so exciting - I wish I'd visit these places somehow in the future - just amazing!! And now - "The Unforgettable" show - Indian Cinema's biggest world tour ever begins tomorrow - see this - read about that a bit - Big B and his son, Aishwarya Rai and Preity Zinta - and in the UK (Yes - it will take place in the UK too) Shilpa will have a guest appearance... Tell me - is this site considered reliable? ShahidTalk2me 19:19, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes you're right - tell me have you not heard about the tour in Britain? ShahidTalk2me 19:50, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
How dare you poking fun at me?? You are now siding him you!!! I hate you both! ;) ShahidTalk2me 19:51, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
LOL yes you're right - I shouldn't be so upset - I'm returning to India very soon, so who knows... It doesn;t depend on me though... ShahidTalk2me 19:58, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm now thinking of the article - it will have to be added. It is the biggest ever Indian world tour, so I guess it will have to be elaborated. I'll need your help on this once it's over ;) ShahidTalk2me 20:02, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're an amazing human being I must say. Yeh it's a dream - and I hope one day it comes true. That's amazing how well you know me - everything, from my father to my passion to see Zinta - you have to see how they describe her - Bollywood icon... wow... she doesn't stop her work - whether it's new kind of roles, cricket team ownership, another world tour - she likes reinventing herself everytime. ShahidTalk2me 20:07, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely - she's educated, intelligent, talented, although her films is my main interest of her works and that's the reason I'm a fan of hers, there's no denying that this lass is a real woman of substance. ShahidTalk2me 20:13, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Don't know if my suggestion is good, but I would suggest you to leave everything and stop thinking of expanding the website. Rather, I suggest you to concentrate on things you love to do and you are doing best: take some article and expand it, write some new article. Don't think about "when will the project be finally complete??" - because it will never be. The world is full of places, films, different objects, everyday there is something new which will need coverage. The number of things Wikipedia permits to create on here is increasing everyday. Every possible film, song, actor, person, place, site, event - it will never get finished.... Relax and take it easy. You should enjoy your work on here, that's the idea. You shouldn't be exhauted everytime. I know how good it feels to see that at the end of each day, there are nearly 2000 new articles created by you - how productive you are, but nevertheless. Regards, ShahidTalk2me 20:38, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hey good to see you - yes I'm aware of this film it's amazing that cinema is such a strong aspect of India. At times it can be found as surprising, because there are so many countries, and India specifically is one of the biggest film producers along with the US, Italy and different coutries in Europe. I'm saying that because many countries don't even produce films at all.... ShahidTalk2me 14:24, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry I'm here but I'm not here... I'm very concerned about 72.138.120.177 (talk · contribs)'s edits - he keeps turning articles into fansites. Could you please keep an eye?? ShahidTalk2me 15:38, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I've never been to Asia, and have always wanted to go. Especially Sri Lanka - my mother spent two years there in the early 70's, and still speaks fondly of it.
Speaking of infoboxes, I've been busy adding a bunch of places in Virginia to this: Category:Unincorporated communities in Virginia. They're very rudimentary, and even though I followed the government's directions I seem to have messed up the links. But if you feel like creating infoboxes, there's a lot of places there waiting for them. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 19:51, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'd be happy to - just tell me which ones need doing. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 20:27, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sure you can. It's simple - just create a whole list and then set your function to "Replace "cities" with "cities, towns and villages"" - saves a heck of a lot of time. I'll get on South Africa now. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 20:46, 17 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This place is great. We have a shore house down there but it doesn't have internet access. But don't worry, I'll be back Sunday. Yeah, I'm a Texas native, but have lived here for going on 19 years now. My father grew up in southern and southwestern Virginia, though, which is why I have such an abiding interest in the area. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 14:20, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Not bad indeed.
The Smokies are nothing like the Rockies - they're a lot softer and smoother. I've been down there a couple of times, but I grew up with regular visits to Shenandoah National Park, which is in the same mountain chain - there's nothing quite like standing on a mountainside in early fall, looking down over Page County into Luray; on a clear day you can see out to West Virginia, even. I'm very fond of the Eastern Shore, too, but the mountains are in my blood. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 14:41, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Colonial Williamsburg? Ah, yes - that's where I went to college. It's a historical reenactment, but it's very nicely done - one of the few I've ever really liked. It was our colonial capital, way back when. I actually had class in the Wren Building, which is the oldest academic building in continuous use in this country. I know, I know...1700 doesn't sound so old to you European folk. But for us greenhorns, it's practically ancient :) --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 14:52, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I enjoy the Civil War, too; I'm also a big fan of colonial history. Not surprising, perhaps, given that a number of my antecedents were around here before the Revolution. And I've got a fair interest in the Indian Wars, too.
I was an art history major in college, yes, but I have no talent for it on my own whatsoever. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 16:32, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Adding templates[edit]

Of course, I'll see what I can do. I saw the formatting of what you you added to the Aley district template, and it looks very clean, and straightforward to add more articles to these templates. It should also give us a better idea of what towns or villages are still missing articles too. ← George [talk] 21:27, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sure thing, rest up; you earned it! I'll see what I can do. By the way, I found a great resource for populating these templates: there is a Lebanese government page that lists municipalities (i.e., towns & villages) by district here. An example would be this page for the Aley district. Obviously the spellings won't match up 100% (French vs. English vs. Arabic), but it should give us a better sense of what towns/villages are missing articles on Wikipedia. Cheers. ← George [talk] 21:42, 18 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Comments[edit]

Blofeld, a user made some comments on Kapoor's peer review and he noted that the article could use a bit of copyediting. Since you were involved in Zinta's FAC, do you know any editors that can help us copyedit the article?? Shahid, you and I have been looking at the article for a long time and hence we cannot find much mistakes. However, if someone else can look through the article and maybe even copyedit it, we will definitely be moving in the right direction. The user also outlined some other minor concerns, such as referencing & changing the titles of some subheadings but those can be taken care of quickly. Quite alright - it's not horribly urgent. I just don't want a bunch of articles sitting around with redlinks to categories. I'm in the process of setting everything up right now. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 19:22, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'll get to settlements in a bit. What I'm doing is a simple "find-and-replace" with AWB, to save me making a bunch of small lists instead of one big one. Right now I'm replacing "[[Category:Cities" with "[[Category:Cities, towns and villages" - I'll do the same with settlements once I'm done. --19:45, 22 July 2008 (UTC)

I've noticed that with a couple of them. Hopefully that'll get cleaned up once I'm done with this bit. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 19:56, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That category is Category:Cities, towns and villages of La Rioja Province (Argentina) - I just changed "cities" to "cities, towns and villages". I can go and redo that if you'd prefer it to be the other way. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 20:17, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Argentina is done, unless I've missed something. Got a bit of cleanup to do now, but the basic work is finished. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 20:48, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Which I don't understand - I thought I'd put them into the AWB system, and it seemed like they took properly. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 20:52, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's the beauty of AWB - once you set it to a simple task, it goes quickly. Córdoba Province should take less than five minutes. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 20:58, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Another nice feature of AWB - it's been automatically removing those double-categorizations without special prompting. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 21:02, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bot-like activity[edit]

Hello, I recently nominated Ahammadkati for deletion. Looking through your contrib logs it looks like you have actually created hundreds, if not thousands of such location stub articles, many consisting of nothing more than a sentence, and often at a rate of 4 or 5 articles per minute. According to Wikipedia:Bot policy this type of editing should be approved by the Bot Approvals Group, even if it is not strictly-automated bot editing. I'm inclined to mass nominate all of these stubs for deletion unless you can demonstrate some sort of approval or outside consensus for their creation. Please reply on my Talk page. Thank you. Kaldari (talk) 22:49, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Afraid you're wrong there. If he's doing it by hand, this is not covered by the policy at all, unless I've missed something Fritzpoll (talk) 22:58, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please read the Wikipedia:Bot policy carefully. Specifically the following passages:
  • "Automated or partially automated editing processes, known as "bots", must be harmless and useful, have approval, use separate user accounts and be operated responsibly."
  • "Assisted editing guidelines: In general, processes that are operated at higher speeds, with a high volume of edits, or are more automated, may be more likely to be treated as bots for these purposes."
Kaldari (talk) 23:45, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I did indeed read the entire policy carefully. I just have no evidence that Blofeld is using anything to assist his editing - so there's no process for the policy to cover. Plus, I know that Blofeld has applied in the past to have his edits flagged as a bot (to prevent it showing up in NPP and hassling everyone) and it was rejected because his edits didn't conform to the policy you are quoting. Fritzpoll (talk) 23:49, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • As a BAG member I have no concerns or objections in regards to Blofeld's editing. —Giggy 23:53, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
    • Several users have created hundreds, if not thousands of stub articles on towns and villages. I myself have created roughly 2,000, and Blofeld has created close to 30,000. This does not make us bots, as we did this all by hand, and if you are going to offer senseless points like these, go bother the hugglers. They're way more of a bot than The Bald Guy. --I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 00:01, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
      • My concerns were prompted by a good faith interpretation of the Bot policy and what appeared to be automated or semi-automated edited on a large scale by this user. Please assume good faith rather than calling my points "senseless". Kaldari (talk) 00:45, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
        • Please look into the matter further before you raise such points. Blofeld is sorta famous around here, and several ANI threads (and the FritzpollBot) were created to stop his manual labor. --I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 00:55, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I find this very amusing indeed. I have no comment to make in regards to Kaldari. I happen to be extremely quick and this isn't the first time I've been mistaken as a bot. Incidentally I added a few Bangladesh stubs to fill up some empty categories. I don't think 27 articles on country like Bangladesh is acceptable when there are over 30,000 real towns and villages particularly with a high population. I won't be creating too many en masse in the future because in most cases we will be creating lists of such places using a bot to avoid sub stubs accumulating. Even if the stub is around for a long time I fail to see how the encyclopedia is worse off with them when they could probably be expanded if somebody did proper research into it (e.g not making assumptions based on a google search engine and visiting a library). I find it strange that I come out looking like I'm committing some major offense to the intergrity of wikipedia or I am somehow tarnishing the image of wikipedia by my activity. Wikipedia has always been about "building" an encyclopedia and initial stubs are perfectly normal and generally accepted by the community to start off. WHile nobody wants permstubs I believe eventually they can be expanded but I believe anway a stub with a map and location is more encyclopedic than no recognition of a real world place at all.

IN response to Editr's comment above, exactly. The GEOBOT was established to save me having to have to do the groundwork, either create lists if info is not readily available or generate better more informative articles at a faster rate. This way I can concentrate on writing articles and improving quality which believe it or not I am capable of rather than "being useless". Believe me I'd rather sit down and write a good article but there is such a huge amount missing or needs gruntwork that most of my time is spent starting them or adding basics. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 09:52, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

First, let me apologize for coming off like a jerk. I actually do appreciate the real work you are doing. Really. I just got finished clearing out the first iteration of Wikipedia:Missing articles for towns and cities with 100,000 or more inhabitants. And I really think that every populated place on earth should get a Wikipedia article, eventually. Our approaches to these types of articles, however, are very different. For each obscure 3rd world town that I create an article for, I spend about twenty minutes finding out every available bit of information possible about the place. If I can't find more than a sentence worth of information about it, I don't create the article. There are two reasons for this. Number 1: If there is very little information available about a location, it probably originated from a single source, such as one of the many geographic databases on the web. These databases are not reliable sources from my experience. They often contain wildly inaccurate information, including bad coordinates, mangled spellings, and incorrect geopolitical information. Wikipedia has enough errors and inaccuracies without perpetuating those of others. In fact, this is quite dangerous. If Wikipedia perpetuates incorrect information, that information becomes the standard for the world, especially if few other sources are available. Pretty soon newspapers are quoting the information and it becomes a "fact" that later, more accurate sources can't compete against. The second reason relates to me being a Bot writer myself. At some point in the future, lots of information is going to become available online about all of these locations that you are currently writing substubs for. As I explained in the AFD, it takes an order of magnitude more work to "retrofit" existing articles with more information than to wait and create good bot-generated articles from the beginning (Rambot being a great example). When thousands of articles are bot-created prematurely, it spoils the opportunity for properly creating them later. A great example of this problem would be Polbot. A long time ago, Polbot created stub articles for virtually every species on the planet. Today Wikipedia species articles are a wasteland. A huge percentage of them have bad taxonomic information and bad categorization, and there is no consistent level of quality other then the fact that they all have an infobox (often with outdated information). A year after Polbot was finished, the most significant overview of mammal species information ever assembled was published, not only in print, but on the web, in a huge machine-parsable XML file! That was over a year ago. To this day, no bot has been able to use that information since all the articles already exist (some of which have been expanded and some of which haven't). What's happening with location articles is even worse in my view. At some point some organization is going to come out with a comprehensive database filled with all sorts of great information on every town and village in Bangladesh. Am I going to be able to easily write a Bot to convert this wealth of information into Wikipedia articles? No. That information is going to languish while Wikipedia is left with 1-sentence stubs. Maybe at some point someone will be clever enough to figure out a good way to add that information to location articles that haven't been expanded already. But what if it's 5 years from now and half of the articles about Bangladesh have been expanded - with uncited dubious information in broken english. Well, that's just what Wikipedia will live with. Tens of thousands of half-ass articles of poor quality that pale in comparison to other sources. Don't think it will happen? It's exactly what happened with species articles. Why do you think the Encyclopedia of Life was just launched? It's because Wikipedia screwed up and it would take thousands of man hours and very hard work to clean-up the wasteland that we have to the point where the articles are even properly organized taxonomically. Now do you understand why I'm such a jerk about this issue? We only have one chance to create these articles properly, and I really am afraid we're going to screw it up by doing it way too prematurely. Kaldari (talk) 15:53, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I see your view of it and why you feel this way. I agree with you that sometime in the future there will be far more information on world places which will make the old database systems look like utter crud. But you seem to be under the assumption that once a sub stub is created it will never change. This is completely untrue. This is a wiki, nothing is set in stone. If articles need recreating then we can delete them and start again, or improve any existing article beyond belief, such is the dynamic of wikipedia. This is exactly why the new GEOBOT has been set up to improve article quality and consistency with what we have at present and to further wikipedia as the most informative and detailed site on the web. Where we differ is that I believe creating a starter article is the first step towards development in this area whereas you think it is a complete waste of time until full inofrmation is available. I partly agree with you which is why I would reocmmend creating lists of "unknown areas" using what we have at present. If at a later date the data is shown to be completely wrong then we use a bot to correct it again. Its not a problem. Believe it or not I would rather wikipedia was as accurate and as detailed as possible and I remain confident in the future it will become increasingly so. I don't think you have any idea of the work I;ve put into building and writing articles to a good quality using government sources and adding references, rather you seme to have got hold of the sub stubs I've created and left yourslef with the idea this is all I do. NOte it was myself who proposed we generate lists preciselt because of the lack of real information avialable at present. Then when info becaomes avilabale later we create the articles properly rather than sub stubs. But at least the lists will recognose the places initially. I wouldn't have any problems if you were to redirect many of my sub stubs towards alist at present until more becomes available. One things for sure you need to change your view towards my intentions and what I am about as an editor ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 16:02, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Firstly, I am very thankful that you support creating lists at present rather than more stubs, and I think that is a great idea that I support completely. Secondly, I understand your position and don't disagree with it completely. However, I do believe that you are a bit overly optimistic. In practice, no one ever deletes articles, stubs or not, in order to make way for clean new bot-created articles. It just steps on too many toes and risks deleting well-researched needles in the haystack. Every few months people resurrect the idea of cleaning up the species articles, for example, especially mammals, but where do you start? It's a Herculean task that no one has the time to tackle. You would have to review everything that's already out there to make sure you didn't make the situation worse rather than better. Maybe it's possible, but it's certainly not easy or clean. In the meantime, we have thousands of articles with outdated and contradictory information. (The Zebra articles are so wrong they're embarrassing.) People are far more reluctant to correct information on Wikipedia, however, than they are to add information. Thus we should try to make sure that our articles are well researched and up-to-date from the outset. If that isn't possible, we should wait. Or at least not go overboard with creating thousands and thousands of stubs of questionable use and accuracy. But anyway, sorry to press the point. I think we agree enough to move forward, so I'll leave it at that. Sorry that our first significant interactions had to be so confrontational. I'm sure we would get along great otherwise :) Kaldari (talk) 16:34, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for posting the list sample. I think it is a great idea and I support it completely. Kaldari (talk) 16:52, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. It took me a while to figure out how to get the maps into the tables. Basically I want to emulate the substub "article" so everything you see in a substub gets presented concisely in the table. After all there isn't much point in having to visit 100 different articles to get a one liner every time where basic location stuff can be presented in such a way. I just hope eventually every place will have a full reliable article but we have to realistic with what we have at present (which is unfortunately very little for many places). I'm kind of torn in two minds whether to continue to ignore much of the world or at least start the article to start to address it. The tables I think solve a lot of problems and provide a medium and manage the existing situation until we have more adequate data. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 17:03, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
In my experience, the key to unlocking information about locations in non-English countries is figuring out the native language name. Once you have that, you can do Google searches and create interwiki links, get things translated, and start fleshing out the articles. I hope you guys make the native language name a part of the table as I think it is critical information for doing research. Kaldari (talk) 17:13, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Naturally the tables will have the native names that appear if the names are readily available. Occasionally there are a ridiculous number of transliterations particularly in the Arabic world in countries like Saudi and Libya so we need to be sensible and recruit native speakers if possible. Its far from a small task but we reckon we can sort some countries if there is adequate info out even if many at present are redirected towards the lists. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 17:20, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was speaking of the actual native names rather than transliterations. I've definitely noticed the difficulty in nailing down transliterated spellings, especially for arab and persian locations, but even for places like Lithuania. Papilė for example is also spelled Papile, Popalan, Popelan, Papilon, Popielany, Popilan, Popilyan, Papiljan, and Popieljan! Burma is tricky too since there are so many different ethnicities with different languages, writing systems, and pronunciations, not to mention a bat-shit crazy government that like to rename places on a whim! Once you've nailed the native name in it's native script, though, you're halfway to making a decent article, even if you have to bug various Wikiprojects to death to translate stuff for you :) But I'm sure you've dealt with all of that before given your voluminous work. Kaldari (talk) 17:30, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As there is so much to do with existing articles I won't create any articles like before unless I know they could potentially be expanded immediately. E.g I just created Template:Chiapas and know that spanish wikipedia either has a full article on many of them or there is a website in spanish for that municipality, therefore potentially could be expanded fully. There are other countries like Argentina, Brazil etc which are the same in this respect. Probably best to work on these first. ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:41, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The real travesty of Wikipedia is our coverage of Chinese geography. We have hundreds of stub and redlinks for huge cities with rich histories and thriving economies. Unfortunately, there are only a small handful of editors working on these articles. It's amazing that we have articles for every hamlet in America with a population of 100 people, but there are numerous parts of China with a million+ people that are redlinks! Kaldari (talk) 20:23, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I know its shocking. There are literally thousands of cities with a population over 100,000 missing from China. But I agree that if I work on the places which have info at present such as Mexico etc, then sometime in the future when info has become avilabale for other places they can be worked on. Best to go with the flow (of information). There is just too much to do. Just imagine we had an article on every settlement in China like we have on places in America and the UK wikipedia would double in size ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 20:29, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Um its mostly done now. Next task is to add infoboxes and try to clean up most of the mess. Countries like Pakistan, Mexico, South Africa , Malaysia and Brazil need a huge amount of work in regard to infoboxes and general data ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 11:41, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My barnstar[edit]

Why, sank you. I shall wear it with pride.

(Speaking of infoboxes, there are a lot of places in Virginia that still need them, and I'll wager a bunch of them elsewhere in the U. S. as well.) --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 15:32, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It'll probably be pretty warm over here today, too, although I don't know how warm.
That infobox looks nice. I'm working on one for one of my old articles, but I won't have too much time today - we're going out of town for a bit beginning tomorrow, so I need to prepare. One of the reasons I did so much yesterday... :) --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 15:42, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Most of the ones I've done have links to their GNIS pages, which provide coordinates. I've been a bit leery of doing them simply because I can find no population data for most of them...that being said, I'm going to put one up right now and see how it looks. If I get the hang of it, maybe I'll find some time today to do a few more. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 15:45, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Here's one of what I'm talking about: Beulahland, Virginia. Actually, any of the ones in the county could use an infobox, I think. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 15:47, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Looks great. I've been working with the other kind of local infobox -see here: Burke's Garden, Virginia. Eventually I'd like to combine the two, but that'll take a hair more work than I can devote to it at the moment. Once I'm home, perhaps. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 15:59, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I read through the rest and fixed some stuff (but I'm sure someone else could still word some things better). I also left a couple of comments on the peer review, which you would probably want to address. - Bobet 18:57, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ya, I know (sorry about the confusing edit summary). The previous wording was: "She was raised by her mother, who, with difficulty, worked several jobs to support the family, until her sister began work as an actress." In that sentence 'who' is the mother, and 'her sister' would refer to the mother's sister. So I changed it to 'Karisma', which is unambiguous. - Bobet 19:05, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Blofeld!! Thanks a lot!! Since Shahid, you and I have been looking at the article for quite a long time, we are not able to do much editing on Kapoor's article. However, since new people have started looking through the article, they're able to help us improve it!! :) We are definitely moving in the right direction. Just to let you know that I am really busy these days and will try my level best to fix some of the concerns outlined on the peer review. I hope you can take care of some of the problems too. I will be leaving for vacation on July 28 and will be back around August 3. This further limits my time on Wikipedia. :(( Regards -- Bollywood Dreamz talk 01:30, 24 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hrm, simply adding something is not so easy. It is possible, but it is very difficult. I have to look at every diff (unlike when I was replacing the category), and it still sometimes formats it weird. I don't think I should use AWB to do this, it is very touchy, and pretty close to impossible. J.delanoygabsadds 01:08, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, now that I think about it, it wouldn't be that bad. I'll whittle at it bit by bit as I get the inclination, but it will take much longer than the other simple things I did. If you want, you can get AWB and I can tell you what to do. J.delanoygabsadds 01:58, 25 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ridiculous POV[edit]

Hi I've just been browsing through the Hindustani and Carnatic singers and the POV is absolutely diabolical. Almost every article has little encyclopedic value but rather say what a great singer and success they were and how super fast they were. PLease can you look into it and sort some of them out. Given the fact that most Indian admins don't bother getting reverting bad edits and just write their own collection of articles, this isn't surprising. Secondly, given that some folks don't even care when drive-by anons make random pov/spam/commentary edits to *their own* FAs that *they wrote* and you won't be surprised. A lot of the "lists of.." are stacked with random business cards for doctors and most geography articles have likewise descended into lists of businesses, school and perosnal service adverts... Translation[edit]

As much the origins of the movie itself as its content are linked to a particular moment in Argentinian history in which there was an intense debate over whether the country should take the side of either the Axis or the Allies during World War II, or maintain its neutrality during this war, a debate that was full blown at the time.

The exaltation in the film of the values associated with nationalism –expressed in the union of the people, the army, and the church in defense of the country- was considered by some a prelude to the revolutionary ideology that on June 4, 1943 overthrew the disgraced government of Ramón Castillo. --Polylerus (talk) 20:21, 29 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think I've removed all instances.[3]. Cheers, –Black Falcon (Talk) 15:21, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Houphouet-Boigny[edit]

You may wish to know Houphouet-Boigny is up for Peer Review. Please comment, as Nishkid and I are shooting for an FA by mid August! --I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 01:17, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's odd I'm also getting the same thing. Maybe it's a problem with the server. I'll see what I can do with Kazakhstan, but I probably won't be much help. --I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 11:50, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Aww, thanks. Now Nishkid and I are off to write Leon M'ba. The highest ranking for a Gabon-related article is B-class, and there is only one of them, which of course you wrote. --I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 12:51, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh I know. It's mostly a translation from the French equivalent so it cannot be without problems (unless Nishkid and I were the best French speakers of all time, which, I regret to say, we are not).--I'm an Editorofthewiki[citation needed] 13:00, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:GoodBadUgly Mexicanstandoff.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:GoodBadUgly Mexicanstandoff.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:02, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your DYK[edit]

Just wanted to note that the DYK you just posted contains no bolded article. I'm presuming the La Palma, Chalatenango article is the hook article. Mastrchf (t/c) 17:01, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
