G'day![edit]

G'day there, Blu3d, and welcome to Wikipedia! Good authors are always welcome on the project, and I hope you like the place and decide to stick around!

Sometimes new editors find it useful to review our "five pillars", all you need to know about editing in "wiki markup", or this detailed tutorial. The stuff we all really need to know is best summed up here: write from a neutral point of view, play nice with others, and don't let the rules get you down. If you have any questions or need any help, my talkpage is always open for business, or you can see Wikipedia:Newcomers help page. Here's a tip to start you off: if you type four tildes (~~~~) at the end of any messages you leave on talkpages (like this one) Wikipedia will automatically insert your name and the current date and time after your message. Cool, eh?

By the way, I'm going to take a punt in the dark and say you're Australian. If so, excellent! Aussies make good Wikipedians (yes, oh yes, we do). You may be interested in Wikipedia:Australian Wikipedians' notice board, where Australian Wikipedians occasionally meet to try to help coordinate our efforts. Again, welcome to the project, and happy editing! fuddlemark (befuddle me!) 10:08, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the welcome. I'm familiar with mediawiki (I use it at work, for a technical wiki), but am relatively new to wikipedia's extensive guidelines and subprojects and etc. Just taking things nice and slowly, touching on the more obvious things that need fixing (so that I don't tread on too many toes just yet) =) Blu3d 15:49, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Railway Station[edit]

Thank you for your pic of Wiley Park station. We don't have many Bankstown Line station pictures so yours will help immensely. Thanks. (JROBBO 07:11, 8 August 2006 (UTC))[reply]

There's more coming, (depending on when I have the time to stop off before work on days I start in the middle of the day).Blu3d 08:05, 8 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warrent -> Warrant?[edit]

As per this edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Deutsch_Limit&diff=68140576&oldid=61815872 The character combination Warrent is a typo that could also mean Warren, and not just Warrant. Blu3d 07:20, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're right - I messed this one up. Thanks for finding it and correcting it. AWB had warrent->warrant in its search list and I didn't check carefully enough before accepting the suggested change. Cheers. Euchiasmus 07:26, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya, the images you've lumped into the Belmore, New South Wales article are okay in Internet Explorer, but they definitely break things like the table of contents in opera/mozilla/firefox (images overlap it). Don't know if you were just dropping it there and planning to fix it later so I'll leave it to you. And also, with your train station pics, you should beware of harsh sunlight - those overexposed roofs really hurt the quality of the pic. Otherwise, keep up the pic-snapping =) -Blu3d 08:09, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the tips. I'll try and fix up the Belmore page. It was unfortunate, that the railway station pics were affected by the harsh sunlight but it was dependant on thetime I turned up there. I drove past the area that day and decided to take a few snaps of a few suburbs. I have some more photo to load from around the Canterbury area. If I get another chance, I'll drop by again and take some more pics to try and improve on them. :) Cheers. J Bar 22:31, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free media (Image:2ser logo.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:2ser logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:21, 3 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

NowCommons: Image:Salmon rose.jpg[edit]

Image:Salmon rose.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:Image:Salmon sashimi.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[Image:Salmon sashimi.jpg]]. Note that this is an automated message to inform you about the move. This bot did not copy the image itself. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 07:10, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation[edit]

There is a backstage pass coming up to be followed by an editathon in the State Library of New South Wales on 23 November. This is the first time that an Australian cultural institution has opened its doors to us in this way and will be a special opportunity because the Library is providing: one of its best rooms; its expert curators (along with their expertise and their white gloves); a newly launched website (containing new resources); and of course, items from its collection (including rare and usually unavailable material) which we can look at, learn from, and use, to improve WP articles. For example, on the chosen topic (Australia and WWI), the Library holds many diaries and manuscripts from the period.

As you can see from the Library's project page, they have connected this editathon with their own work. They have already set out a wide range of resources to make things easier for us. Please sign up on the editathon project page if you can participate either online or in person with other Wikipedians. Hope to see you there! Notification of automated file description generation[edit]

Your upload of File:Belmore station.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 13:10, 30 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Another one of your uploads, File:Campsie station.jpg, has also had some information automatically added. If you get a moment, please review the bot's contributions there as well. Thanks! Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 14:57, 10 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
