puzzled[edit]

I am completely puzzled why you thing we need Kevin Freeman as well as Kevin Freeman (disambiguation) . The first links only to the second plus two names for which we do not have articles and probably never will; The second lists to two different athletes about whom we do have articles--plus the first. In fact, I don;t see why with only two articles total we need any disam page, rather than just a pair of headnotes. You're the expert, so pls tell me what I must not be understanding. DGG ( talk ) 01:07, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, DGG. I've added my reasons at Talk:Kevin Freedman, I don't know if you've read that yet? Please respond there; I may convince you, I may not! Obviously if I don't, then you may want to propose a merge between Kevin Freedman and Kevin Freeman, or you may want to consider AfD, as it was originally deletion you were proposing. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 09:16, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You also may be interested in the discussion at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style/Disambiguation pages#Clarification about "Items appearing within other articles", which was inspired by a similar page being proposed for deletion. Boleyn (talk) 09:26, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) I think both the two dab pages, Kevin Freeman and Kevin Freedman, are valid. The "... (disambiguation)"s are only redirects, to prevent incoming links to dab pages (I think DGG's second bluelink was probably intended for Kevin Freedman). There is no evidence which of the Kevin Freemans is the primary topic, so a 2-entry dab page is in order. Both of the Kevin Freedmans, different name, get a mention which clearly qualifies them for mention at Kevin Freedman, and it seems illogical (if within the letter of the rules) to say that because we don't have a footballer or rock star of that name who has a Wikipedia page, we can't provide any access to the info we have on these two. Each of the entries has a bluelink to a page where they are mentioned (haven't actually followed the links but trust Boleyn on this!). There is nothing to gain from deleting dab pages like this which reflect efforts which have been made to distinguish and/or disentangle similarly-named people, and which guide readers to some minimal mention of the people concerned. PamD 10:03, 27 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Pam. And DGG, if you have any further opinions, I'd be interested in hearing them on either of the linked discussions. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 13:21, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation[edit]

Thanks for your help, I am happy for Danny Ross disambiguation to be merged with Daniel Ross but this is my first time creating disambiguation and i don't want to muck it up. If you would like to do it please feel free. Flat Out let's discuss it 13:11, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Flat Out. Well done on creating your first disambiguation page, you've done a good job. It's probably best to leave a merge proposal for a while, in case someone objects, so you don't need to do anything. Thanks for letting me know your opinion. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 13:20, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Boleyn, yes normally I would just go to the talk page, but seeing as I created the disambiguation page and the article [[Danny Ross (musician}]] which nooone else has edited I thought we could possibly fast track the merge. Cheers Flat Out let's discuss it 13:25, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Good point, I've now finished it. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 13:27, 29 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hmmm. The fact that it has already been deleted makes your posting on my talk page, although well intentioned, a rather academic exercise. Ho hum. Pdfpdf (talk) 11:49, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, speedy deletions can indeed be really speedy, and so I tend to employ them with care. However, with this one I knew you could recreate it in seconds if you disagreed (or asked me to), and I searched really hard to try to make it meet the criteria, but there wasn't even a mention of another Hugo White (or Whyte, Wight etc.) to add to the dab. Thanks for creating the dab in the first place, but in this case a hatnote will save readers time and there's no real advantage to having a dab. However, of course, I know what an experienced editor you are, and if you disagree, feel free to recreate it. Hope you're having a good summer, Boleyn (talk) 07:28, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(On the other hand ... ) Thanks! Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 11:53, 1 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Disambig of Harrison Tyler[edit]

Hello - I see you have been working on some disambiguating. I am going to tidy up the entry for Harrison Tyler and have the person who was interviewed on American Presidents read as Harrison Ruffin Tyler. BTW - This Mr. Tyler is the grandson (not great- or anything) of the 10th President of the United States, John Tyler, and he is still with us. I see that there was an article about him at one point, but someone deleted it a long time ago. Thanks for all the work you do to make WP better. KConWiki (talk) 01:23, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You would be a good administrator in my opinion, and you are qualified!
You personify an Administrator without tools, and have gained my support; already!

 :) John Cline (talk) 09:41, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, John, it's kind of you to say so. I don't think I'd ever have the confidence to apply for that though - there's at least one issue over the years where my editing was controversial (and, with hindsight, wrong), and there would be more than one editor to remember it and object. However, it was really nice of you to leave the message and make me feel appreciated. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 07:34, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nomination of Ed Wolff (disambiguation) for deletion[edit]

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Ed Wolff (disambiguation) is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ed Wolff (disambiguation) until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. Beerest355 Talk 18:47, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Firstly, I'm pretty sure this is a useful disambiguator, as people may well be looking for this, and not the generic David Russell page. Secondly, when you removed the golfer as he was a redlink, citing a policy, you didn't realize that: A; the golfer in question was genuinely notable (and now has an article) and B; that he was linked, in the 1997 Challenge Tour article, albeit not with the way I'd worded it, but the way User:Catchpole had written it back in 2007. Just a head's up. :) Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 18:56, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Luke. Incomplete disambiguations can sometimes be useful - in this case there are various options. If one is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC it could redirect there, with hatnotes to the other two, or David A. Russell could redirect to the David Russell dab. As the David Russell dab is a long one, I didn't make David A. Russell a redirect, nor did I propose a merge. I tagged it (in my opinion rightfully) as an incomplete disambiguation, particularly because I felt that the middle initial A. may apply to many others on the main dab, and the only entries (at the time) do not seem to have been primarily known as 'David A. Russell'. However, I was starting a discussion and raising a query, not proposing a redirect or merge. I still feel that the page may confuse readers, but now as I've added a link to the main disambiguation page, David Russell (disambiguation), it's far less likely to do so, and I'm not interested in trying to re-apply the tag or continue the issue.

As for the golfer, I clicked on the redlink, What links here, and at the time there was nothing, so I rightly removed it, with links to the guidelines in my edit summary. I'm glad you were able to find and change a link to him in another article, but as it was, it wasn't useful to anyone and I couldn't have guessed that he was elsewhere under a different redlinked title. He may well be notable, but that's not relevant on a dab - it is essentially an index of Wikipedia articles, including links to places where a person is mentioned in a Wikipedia article, and that is all - it is not a list of all notable/potentially notable people with that name. I'm glad he now has an article, good work.

Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 07:24, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • A look through the history would've shown you that I'd simply changed the formatting of what was already there. *If* the DAB page only contained two links, then a redirect wouldn't have been a problem, particularly; however, now there are three, and any searches for "David A. Russell" or "David A Russell" are almost certainly intended for one of the three targets there. Lukeno94 (tell Luke off here) 08:18, 15 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Henry Mills, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Brainy J ~~ (talk) 18:49, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Thanks for letting me know, but the article wasn't created by me, I created the original page as a redirect. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 20:41, 19 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Jeanne. I am not sure what I did wrong on the disambiguation page. Why is the U.S. actress given top billing rather than in the same section with all the other Elizabeth Wilsons?? Yours, Quis separabit? 16:57, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Also why did you restore an obscure redlink (Elizabeth Wilson (author), (born 1936), author, see Men's parking space)? Quis separabit? 16:59, 21 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. The actress comes at the top per MOS:DABPRIMARY, as her article is currently at the main title: Since it is unlikely that this primary meaning is what readers are looking for if they have reached the disambiguation page, it should not be mixed in with the other links. It is recommended that the link back to the primary topic appear at the top, in a brief explanatory sentence. For instance:

A school is an institution for learning.

School may also refer to:

  • School (discipline) or school of thought, a number of individuals with shared styles, approaches or aims
  • School (fish), a group of fish swimming in the same direction in a coordinated manner
  • . . .

Of course, if it's found that she isn't really the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC and her article is moved and the disambiguation page put at Elizabeth Wilson, then she would go in with all the other entries.

As for the author, she does seem to meet MOS:DABRL and MOS:DABMENTION: If a topic does not have an article of its own, but is mentioned within another article, then a link to that article should be included. In this case, the link does not start the line, but it should still be the only blue wikilink. For example:

Maggie Anderson may refer to:

A tag has been placed on Ben Draper requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G6 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates two or fewer extant Wikipedia pages and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
  • disambiguates no (zero) extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

Zimmerman[edit]

Hello, This is minor. You forgot (or maybe just did not get to it yet) to do a redirect from Zimmerman to Zimmerman (surname) due to creating the new page. I moved the Zimmerman talk page for you to Talk:Zimmerman (surname) and did some cleanup. Jrcrin001 (talk) 21:25, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Jeffrey Ellis (bowmaker)[edit]

I'm rather surprised by these edits of yours. The claims you added links to are spam sourced to Ellis' personal website. If Ellis is indeed a notable bowmaker we should write an article based on third-party sources, but I don't think we should include him with every violinist he says he worked for.

Furthermore, the MOS says that each entry in a disambiguation page should contain one blue link and no other links, and WP:DABRELATED says we should not include a term unless it's "actually described in the target article"; I don't think these passing mentions satisfy that standard.

For these reasons I'd remove Ellis from the Tognetti article and also re-remove the DAB entry, but maybe I'm missing something? Huon (talk) 07:52, 3 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Huon, and thanks for your work on this page. As Geoffrey Ellis (bowmaker) has two incoming links, adding the redlink gives the reader the opportunity to click on 'What links here' and see all articles he is linked in. He does meet MOS:DABRL and MOS:DABMENTION (If a topic does not have an article of its own, but is mentioned within another article, then a link to that article should be included) and therefore belongs on the disambiguation page. Passing mentions meet these criteria (although there's understandably others who share your viewpoint that they shouldn't - but that's a question for the Wikiproject). The wider question you raised, is does he belong in those articles at all? You have looked into it and feel the mentions are spam. If this is the case, and they don't add anything to the article, then they should be removed. Then, obviously, the redlink wouldn't meet the criteria for an entry on the disambiguation page. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 13:42, 3 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

Hi Boleyn, regarding this edit:[1] after checking MOS:DAB, I noticed that "A disambiguation page should not be made up completely of red links or have only one blue link on the entire page". In my revision I left 3 blue links plus 2 more entries, but your revision has 3 blue links and a red link, I think both revisions are okay. I just wondered can we include Neal Robinson's entry. He is a writer and actually some of our internal links are supposed to be Neal Robinson the writer, not the footballer.Kiatdd (talk) 21:04, 16 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Re this edit, I would have redirected it, but I wasn't sure where: James K. Johnson is listed at James Johnson, but Jimmie Johnson is at Jim Johnson. I could also redirect the dab to one of the articles and leave a hatnote on the other. What would you recommend? ~HueSatLum 14:05, 18 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for straightening out Richard Archer[edit]

For some reason known only in the recesses of my brain, the red link in Richard Archer through me off. I did look at Overland Partners and wondered whether that article was skirting the edge of self-promotion so perhaps that also influenced me. At the same time, I left the completely unlinked Richard Archer because there was a blue link in the article and I thought that was ok (which it is and which I should have realized was ok for the red link since it appeared the Overland Partners article). Even if I had not remembered the fine points of what can be included in a disambiguation page, I should have seen the inconsistency and left it alone or looked up the manual page to resolve the inconsistency. I appreciate you cleaning up after me on this one and giving me or anyone who looks at the edit summary a brief refresher on this point. Donner60 (talk) 07:30, 28 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Kashk[edit]

Hello. You may not have noticed, but I've posted Kashk (disambiguation) for deletion. There is no need to disambiguate the word beyond the extent to which it's already being done in Kashk, Iran. The "for" hatnote that I've put on top of Kashk to replace the link to Kashk (disambiguation) is sufficient for all the disambiguation that anyone needs. Meanwhile, I removed from Kashk (disambiguation) the two links that you added that are already in Kashk, Iran. They're redundant. —Largo Plazo (talk) 18:49, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I see you reverted my changes again, but haven't communicated with me about it. I'm wondering why you are creating links that will be broken or disappear after Kashk (disambiguation) is deleted. —Largo Plazo (talk) 19:12, 8 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I added {dn} to Carolyn Jones (actress) as this probably refers to either the actress Carolyn Jones (in which case the redlink could be made blue) or Carolyn Jones (British actor), in which case, the redlink should probably go there, to match other incoming links. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 19:16, 21 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well adding a {{dn}} tag doesn't convey this! You can be certain that it does not refer to Carolyn Jones because she was dead at the relevant times! And by the rules of British Equity it is highly likely that Carolyn Jones (actress) and Carolyn Jones (British actor) refer to the same person. By surveying the first 600 entries in Category:English television actresses it seems that "actress" is far more common usage than "actor", by 25 to 1, as a suffix to disambiguate a female actor. A bold solution would be to move Carolyn Jones to Carolyn Jones (American actress), and change both Carolyn Jones (actress) and Carolyn Jones (British actor) to Carolyn Jones (British actress). I'm unsure if you're aware that you've come across as very rude? It's usually best to address a fellow volunteer in a polite manner. Otherwise, people are put off giving up their time. Thanks for looking into possible solutions to the problem I drew attention to; feel free to make any changes based on your research. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 13:54, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A Michael French hired a PR firm to manage his wikipedia presence[edit]

Did you see this? According to this article a Michael French hired a PR firm to "manage his wikipedia presence".

I thought I would make sure you saw it after I saw you were one of the people who edited Michael French (disambiguation). Do you have any idea which Michael French article the reference refers to? Ironically, engaging in this attempts to subvert the wikipedia, and being caught at it, makes him more notable.

Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 06:36, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) By my reading of that article, Michael French was the CEO of Wiki-PR who replied to Emad Rahim, the unhappy academic who'd paid good money for poor results, rather than a client. PamD 07:10, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Sounds like Pam answered that, but thanks for directing me to an interesting article. Boleyn (talk) 14:03, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pory[edit]

Hi, I was just wondering why on Pory, there is a link to Elephanta Island, which doesn't mention Pory? Thanks, Matty.007 20:09, 22 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message, I've sorted it now. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 14:04, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

your opinion please...[edit]

I will defer to your judgment, as our resident disambiguation expert.

I just created David Z (disambiguation). Prior to its creation we had two articles, David Z and David Z.. Both individuals are in the US music business. It seemed to me that someone made an arbitrary choice as to which of them was to have an article at David Z. It seemed to me that either there should be a redirection from David Zablidowsky to David Z, or that David Zablidowsky should be the basename, so I renamed that article David Zablidowsky. The other guy's real name is David Rivkin.

I wondered whether the basename of the Rivkin article should be David Rivkin (music producer) or David Z (music producer). Similarly, I wondered whther the other article should be at David Z (bassist).

As our resident disambiguation expert I will defer to your judgment.

Thanks! Geo Swan (talk) 14:11, 26 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Well done for spotting this. I've moved David Z. to David Z (music producer) and requested that the base page be made a dab. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 16:10, 30 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A SNAFU with David Z happened...[edit]

I don't know if you were aware of this, but a bit of an issue happened in regards to the David Z requested move discussion. Please refer to my most recent comment on Talk:David Z (disambiguation) and my request on Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion#David Z for details. Hopefully, this all gets resolved soon! Max George[edit]

Hi Boleyn, I redirected Max George to The Wanted following what was already done with Nathan Sykes and the discussion at Talk:Max George (footballer)#Requested move 2 (got that link wrong in the edit summary) that pointed out this was a WP:TWODABS situation. Since this doesn't involve an actual deletion or page move, discussion should probably take place at RfD. Thanks, BDD (talk) 16:20, 12 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Boleyn; I just wanted to ping you to ask that you not prematurely remove tags-- have a look at the ongoing effort to get agraphia wikilinked (still not done)-- adding a few links to the top of the article, and then removing the tag, won't help assure that the entire article gets addressed, and in this case, it really needed an editor who knows the territory (Dolfrog is on it). Best regards, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:55, 13 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Bracketbot daily option[edit]

Hallo Boleyn, if you'd rather get Bracketbot's notifications under daily section headings rather than new ones being added to an old monthly heading, you can do so: see User:BracketBot#Daily_Instead_of_Monthly_Headers. You just need to add {{DailyBracketBot}} to either your user page or talk page. I requested it, and the bot's author kindly provided the option, but not many people have yet taken it up - perhaps you and/or your talk page stalkers might join the select list! Food Processing Equipments Company Pvt. Ltd.[edit]

Hi, I've deprodded Food Processing Equipments Company Pvt. Ltd., cleaned it up a little and added a few refs which deal with one of the subject's projects. It's still very much a borderline case though so I wouldn't be at all opposed if you wanted to send it to AfD. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 07:53, 23 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding one of your edits to Belizean pine forests[edit]

Hello Boleyn,

I noticed you marked an article as a stub using the {{stub}} template. Did you know that there are thousands of stub types that you can use to clarify what type of stub the article is? Properly categorizing stubs is important to the Wikipedia community because it helps various WikiProjects to identify articles that need expansion.

If you have questions about stub sorting, don't hesitate to ask! There is a wealth of stub information on the stub sorting WikiProject, and hundreds of stub sorters. Thanks! --I dream of horses If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page. @ 03:47, 8 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Campion[edit]

Good work on the Campion AfD nomination. I have wondered about him and other PCCs for a while now and have gone as far as marking some of them as potentially failing GNG. Looking at Category:Police and crime commissioners in England, I reckon only a quarter are notable. I feel strongly that the PCC role (as with the chief constable role) does not infer automatic notability. I wondered whether it's worth doing a mass nomination of those that aren't notable? Thoughts? 10mmsocket (talk) 21:38, 3 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

user:10mmsocket, it might well be a good idea if this one is deleted. They aren't automatically notable, but some may meet WP:GNG - Icouldn't find that this one does though. Boleyn (talk) 17:51, 4 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
