Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. Sonestown Covered Bridge

Hi Brian, happy birthday and thanks for thinking of Sonestown Covered Bridge for TFA. The bridge was damaged in the 2011 floods and has thankfully since been repaired and reopened, but I have not found many reliable sources on the repair to use to update the article with. My guess is that if I go to some libraries that keep newspapers I will find the needed sources, but I have not done that yet. So July 24 may be a bit soon for TFA. I am OK - pretty busy in real life. Hope all is well with you, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 23:24, 4 July 2016 (UTC)

Nice to hear from you. No need to hurry over updating the bridge article – I'd like to run it some time, but it doesn't have to be this month. All is well, though at present I'm not as active as I once was as far as content creation is concerned. Pretty much I just do TFA, update my older FAs, and avoid hassles as far as I can. Brianboulton (talk) 09:16, 5 July 2016 (UTC)
Alwats a pleasure to talk with you. I will let you know once the article is updated. The repair work to the bridge itself is obvious, but I would love to find sources that give the amount spent, dates for work done, etc. Ruhrfisch ><>°° 17:21, 6 July 2016 (UTC)

Noye's Fludde

If the combination of the MT article and the page I sent you ain't enough I'm v. happy to mosey down to the BL for a spot of rummaging. It is genuinely a pleasure, so no 'no, no-ing'. Let me know. Tim riley talk 20:24, 10 July 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for the Herbert page. The two sentences in the article which are cited to the original Aldeburgh programme are:
  • "The Chorus of Animals was provided by children from three local schools: Sir John Leman, Beccles; Bungay County Primary; and the Heath Primary School, Kesgrave", and
  • "The professional element in the orchestra was provided by the English Opera Group players, led by Emanuel Hurwitz. The remaining adult players were a piano duet played by Viola Tunnard and Martin Penny, and the organist Ralph Downes. The children players, billed as "An East Suffolk Children's Orchestra", included handbell ringers from the County Modern School, Leiston; a percussion group, whose instruments included the slung mugs, from Woolverstone Hall School; recorder players from Framlingham College; and bugle players from the Royal Hospital School, Holbrook".

Some of these details are, as I've said, confirmed in the MT article already in use as a source. The following details, however, are not covered by either the MT or the Douglas page as seen:

  • The three local schools mentioned in the first sentence
  • The piano duettists
  • "An East Suffolk Children's Orchestra"
  • Woolverstone Hall School
  • Framlingham College

We need specific sources that mention these particulars. Will the BL have a copy of the original programme?

Thanks for taking the trouble. (I've just enjoyed a four-day total break). Brianboulton (talk) 21:44, 11 July 2016 (UTC)

This suits my timetable perfectly. I already had it in mind to toddle down to the BL today on an unrelated mission. I'm fairly certain they will have the original programme, but if not I'll see what else I can find as corroborative detail. Tim riley talk 07:31, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

Reporting back

Modified rapture. I've found a couple of things, but the BL denies all knowledge of a programme for the 1958 première. I suspect they may have it but have not catalogued it – a lost cause either way.

  • The three local schools mentioned in the first sentence – nothing, alas, except that in Grogan's biog of the Blessed Imogen (this edition, p. 313) the participation of the Bungay lot is mentioned.
  • The piano duettists – no joy
  • "An East Suffolk Children's Orchestra" – is specifically mentioned in the Myers Musical Times article
  • Woolverstone Hall School and Framlingham College – are in the Herbert book, and I've swapped the citation accordingly.

Progress of a sort, but I'm sorry I can't do better. – Tim riley talk 13:45, 12 July 2016 (UTC)

Excellent. I have deleted the sentence referring to the three schools (no sense in mentioning Bungay without the others), and I've also removed the duettists. I have re-cited the outstanding details to the Myers MT article. The original programme is no longer cited as a source; should it turn up later, we can reintroduce it. Thank you for helpful comments in the FAC, and for scheduling! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:43, 16 July 2016 (UTC)

Hi Brian. See this discussion and the improvements I've made at the article. Do you think it passes muster for Aug 6? --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 10:31, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

I'd say its almost ready to be TFA. There are still two uncited statements: "For the last two of these three seasons the team were playing in Dover" ("Supporters" section} and "This figure is unlikely to be broken in the foreseeable future, as even after its planned redevelopment is completed, the ground will hold less than half this number of fans" ("Statistics and records" section). It should be possible to cite these facts to reliable sources, but if you have difficulty you could simply strike the sentences. Also, a number of the citations are not properly formatted – see 16, 17, 34, 35, 39. You have twice cited "This is Kent" (95 and 104), but this is a nom-de-plume - the publisher is the Kent and Surrey Courier. These points need fixing. I haven't checked that all links are working as they should, but assume you will do this. Brianboulton (talk) 18:53, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

Is it shipshape now? --Dweller (talk) Become old fashioned! 08:30, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

Pretty well. The publishers for refs 95 and 104 (see above) still need fixing, but this needn't prevent a nomination at TFA. Brianboulton (talk) 13:07, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

FAC mentoring

There have been no more comments for a week -- are you still interested in proposing this? I think Wehwalt made the only comment indicating some opposition to the idea (here). If you're still interested, what's the next step -- a specific proposal? Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 11:43, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

  • Yes, I've been waiting for the discussion to die down. I do think that a more formal mentoring system for first FAC nominations would be beneficial, both in reducing unprepared noms and, perhasps, in reawakening interest in the process among some of our relatively inactive experienced editors. If it's OK with you, I'll draft a proposal in the next few days and run it past you before making it official. Brianboulton (talk) 13:05, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
That sounds good. Let me know when you're ready. Mike Christie (talk - contribs - library) 13:43, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

Have made a suggestion for an image, this one Ettington Park Hotel, on Giano's Talkpage. KJP1 (talk) 11:57, 28 July 2016 (UTC)

Either Ettington Park, or the alternative suggestion of File:Oakley Court Windsor 2.jpg, would be fine in my view. Ettington provides, I think, slightly the better photograph, so I'll go for that one. Brianboulton (talk) 12:45, 28 July 2016 (UTC)
