October 2015[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. Bobherry Userspace Talk to me! Stuff I have done 20:52, 2 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your idea[edit]

Some latitude is allowed as we are humans, not robots. For newbies, "Hi, I'm Bob" is a plausible first edit and we definitely don't want to WP:BITE them for that. For veteran editors, there's likely some minor chit-chat going on on their talk page or in the archives. As for warnings, they're not badges of shame. Any competent admin will check talk page history and most recent change patrollers will do the same. --NeilN talk to me 21:14, 2 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

How to deal with a content dispute[edit]

This is about your post to WP:AN. I was about to close that, but someone else got there first. Please read WP:BRD which explains how to deal with a disagreement about content: in brief, discuss it on the article talk page, and try to reach WP:Consensus. If you can't reach consensus, see WP:Dispute resolution. Admins have no special authority about content: the "drama-boards" WP:AN (or preferably WP:ANI for an individual incident rather than a policy question) are the last resort for intractable disputes, not the first place to go. Hello CLCStudent[edit]

The question on the page of Van Halen is the overuse of scarce sources of cohesion in the use of musical genres from classic bands , I am a staunch enemy of sites as " allmusic.com " , " rollingstone " and the like, it looks like trainees 15 year-old , writing evaluations, employing a lot of duplicity , bad faith and spelling errors and analysis, as I wrote in another discussion page , there are more laborious and honest ways to make co -reports , speed is not quality! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 187.95.113.94 (talk) 21:04, 9 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

pending changes reviewer[edit]

Hello. Your account has been granted the "pending changes reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on pages protected by pending changes. The list of articles awaiting review is located at Special:PendingChanges, while the list of articles that have pending changes protection turned on is located at Special:StablePages.

Being granted reviewer rights neither grants you status nor changes how you can edit articles. If you do not want this user right, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time.

I have granted the "rollbacker" permission to your account. After a review of some of your contributions, I believe you can be trusted to use rollback for its intended usage of reverting vandalism, and that you will not abuse it by reverting good-faith edits or to revert-war. For information on rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback and Wikipedia:Rollback feature. If you do not want rollback, contact me and I will remove it. Good luck and thanks. – Gilliam (talk) 14:09, 21 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. He literally made his politician career on being a racist. At least your edit record will show where you stand. --166.175.56.39 (talk) 21:31, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
We will have administration decide on the next move. CLCStudent (talk) 21:33, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That source is a reliable source, but those "facts" aren't coming from them, they are attributing them to other parties, so you can't say he was a racist according to that source. The fact that the board is considering renaming the stadium might actually be worth a note, paying close attention to WP:DUE, but under no circumstance would that source prove he is a racist. To be clear, this isn't an administrator position, this is my opinion as an established and experienced editor. Content issues are decided by editors, not admin. Behavior issues, like edit warring...that is a different story. Dennis Brown - 21:37, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I saw you were busy cleaning it up--I don't know if you reported at AIV or RFPP, but that's always a good thing to do, even if it's a bit slow sometimes. And don't be afraid to paste warning templates--some admins really want to see increasingly serious warnings on a user talk page, from 1 to 4, before they block. As a side note, that was one hell of a mess, with a lot of IPs from Czech and Slovakia; guess they have plenty of internet vandals as well. As another side note, I can't believe this is a "sport" and we have articles on it. Drmies (talk) 18:55, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, my name is Maciek, I'm forty years old and I'm an engineer. It was not an experiment or something. I just wanted to say no to promote on Wikipedia pure hate and some frustrated "artists" or "journalists" making fun or even their life purpose of disdaining anyone. So I changed the article and some roderick, who is really silly, still keeps undoing my changes. I hope we may clarify the situation and there will be no need to continue this silly "ping pong game". The fact that you're removing sourced information just because "you don't like it", are operating under multiple IP accounts (always a suspicious sign) and insulting longstanding editors who have bothered to log in says a lot to me. Rodericksilly (talk) 15:01, 5 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Don't be silly, Roderick, please! I use different devices - PC, mobile etc. Hence different IP's. I usually forget to login, but have my own account. Taking it as "suspicious" says a lot to me about you. By the way, for your information: the way "longstanding editors" treat my edits doesn't differ if I am logged in or not. You seem to treat this page as your personal farm and behave not maturely. Being a "longstanding" editor doesn't mean being infallible. I had been a moderator on some hobby forum for years and never behaved like this. I understand that you have engaged yourself in this project/article, made a lot of improvements here and you seem devoted to them. But ruthless cancelling other users edits doesn't speak well of you. Take an example from other editors who at least write any explanations! You say I insulted you? Your behavour against my edits was also insulting. And it's not that "I don't like something". There are common rules in the web e.g. not to spread hatred that "longtime editor" should know. Those informations have source? This is really silly. If I do an edit with quotes from "Meinkampf", will it not have a source? Will you accept it? Don't answer, please.
Ok, I counted that we may agree here, pity. I still count on your cooperation, because I will not leave it like this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.149.252.162 (talk) 12:59, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Reverted edit[edit]

I made an edit to a wet-plate photograph description changing "black or dark-colored" to "non-white" and was told it was no different. This is not the case.

Wet-plate photographs do not detect color like more modern film photographs do:

File:Http://www.thesewingacademy.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/ColorWheel-KLowe1.jpg
A modern photograph of a color wheel
File:Http://www.thesewingacademy.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/ColorWheel-KLowe-Wet.jpg
A wet-plate photograph of the same color wheel

The dark color in the photograph could just as easily be a bright red or orange; the only thing we can say for sure is that it is not white and not bright blue.

Heaving to as a storm tactic[edit]

At Heaving_to,

is the better punctuation rather than ; ... Look in Turabian or any other similar guide. My very minor correction was not vandalism.68.32.154.213 (talk) 01:06, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Are you going to revert back to the colon or should I? Basically we are discussing one compound sentence which uses semicolons to separate what could be stand-alone related sentences. The language is describing a numerical listing. The quantity on the left of the colon should equal the total of the quantities to the right of the colon. It could be written differently (which helped me see a missing semicolon).

During the ill fated 1979 Fastnet race, of 300 yachts, 158 chose to adopt storm tactics:

  • 86 'lay ahull', whereby the yacht adopts a 'beam on' attitude to the wind and waves;
  • 46 ran before the wind under bare poles or trailing warps/sea anchors; and
  • 26 heaved to.

100 yachts suffered knock downs, 77 rolled (that is turtled) at least once. Not one of the hove to yachts were capsized or suffered any serious damage.[1] The 'heave to' maneuver is described in the story of the first Golden Globe yacht race of 1968.[2] 68.32.154.213 (talk) 21:22, 9 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Province of Carolina[edit]

You reverted this page back to:

In 1665, the charter was revised slightly (see Royal Colonial Boundary of 1665), with the northerly boundary extended to 36 degrees 30 minutes north to include the lands of settlers along the Albemarle Sound who had left the Virginia Colony. Likewise, the southern boundary was moved south to 29 degrees north, just south of present-day Daytona Beach, Florida, which had the effect of including the existing Spanish settlement at St. Augustine. The charter also granted all the land, between these northerly and southerly bounds, from the Atlantic, westward to the shores of the Pacific Ocean.[1]

I thought the change I made would be better. Foremost, the charter was not revised "slightly". I do see where you thought my insertion of "about 60 nautical miles" was vandalism though. The expansion to the north was about 60 nautical miles, the southern was much larger and the maximum distance to the west was huge -- the Pacific Ocean. I am going to consider changing the word "slightly" to "significantly".68.32.154.213 (talk) 18:44, 10 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your ongoing efforts to improve the encyclopedia have not gone unnoticed: You have been selected as Editor of the Week for your determination and dedication to help the encyclopedia grow. Thank you for the great contributions! (courtesy of the Wikipedia Editor Retention Project)

Editor User:Buster7 submitted the following nomination for Editor of the Week:

Vandalism is the enemy of Wikipedia. It undermines the reliability of the encyclopedia and threatens its long-term value to our readers. There are many, many vandal fighting editors and to pick one may seem unfair to the rest. These editors perform the behind-the-scenes work that is normally not seen by the general community while safe-guarding our mutual commitment to verifiable knowledge. CLCStudent (talk · contribs · count · logs) has been actively chasing vandals for only a short time. He already has over 6000 edits, uses the edit summary 93% of the time, and almost half of his edits are to main space. 172 visits to WP:AIV and 100 to WP:Rpp display an new editor that understands the threat that vandals are. Voting in the Stewards Election of 2016 shows his concern for the care and well-being of WP. Let User:CLC be the recipient on behalf of all the other vandal fighters. This nomination was seconded by @Class455fan1:.

Direct administrator requests[edit]

Hi CLCStudent, I'm the clerk who handled the Cassist investigation. If I might offer some informal advice: I urge you not to directly contact administrators on a talk page for a non-urgent matter; it looks like you went to two different completely unrelated administrators regarding the Cassist SPI (which was about as non-urgent as you could get). Admins know how to get to WP:SPI, and there (frankly) is a large backlog of cases, some of which are much more urgent than that one. Thanks for your work on vandal-fighting and at SPI. 2016 Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director Search Community Survey[edit]

The Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation has appointed a committee to lead the search for the foundation’s next Executive Director. One of our first tasks is to write the job description of the executive director position, and we are asking for input from the Wikimedia community. Please take a few minutes and complete this survey to help us better understand community and staff expectations for the Wikimedia Foundation Executive Director.

Premature speedy delete nominations[edit]

Hi, you nominated Heather A. Knutson for speedy deletion only one minute after creation. For A7 this is totally inappropriate as more text couild be added very soon, and you can see that it was. Please wait for half an hour before A1 A3 A7 etc speedy delete nominations. However for attacks, and vandalism, and copyright violations, they can be nominated immediately. Revision to Martine Ouellett[edit]

Please note I removed an edit made earlier that evening that stated Martine Ouellett was a traitorous Canadian Politician , and instead put Member of Quebec National Assembly before I noticed it was stated in the second paragraph, so I replaced it with Canadian Politician. No matter what a person thinks of a politician, this is not the place for personal comments, only facts.

Hello, I'm actually Dung247. I need to edit in anonymous user because my account just stop being blocked in November. I'm also revoked user talk page access. So bad! The reason I've moved my edit is because I think there'll be wrong in the next day, because the schedule of Canal 24 Horas always changes. Sorry! My post from sometime ago[edit]

This is Maxwelldas. I became a wiki editor accidentally a few months back when I tried to fix an error. I don't post much. Maybe three times in all. I just noticed that my previous post was removed for not being constructive a little over a month ago. It is OK by me. I am not going to fight it. It was just a minor grammatical and syntactical pickiness on my part. Just FYI: The common notice in passenger sideview mirrors is "Objects in mirror are closer than they appear". Nobody is confused by what it means, and that is all that is required of signs like that. However, if you think about convex mirrors and virtual images, it would be more precise to say (with exactly the same words), "Objects are closer than they appear (or seem) in mirror". It s fine for you to regard it as not constructive! I wouldn't spend any more energy than I already have defending my correction. Thanks. Maxwelldas (talk) 20:16, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) @Maxwelldas: I took a look at your edit and it sounded like your personal opinion or commentary on something. As such I would've supported the reversion of that edit, as Wikipedia isn't a place for commentary (You have Reddit for that). —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 21:59, 27 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open![edit]

Hello, CLCStudent. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Editor of the Week seeking nominations (and a new facilitator)[edit]

The Editor of the Week initiative has been recognizing editors since 2013 for their hard work and dedication. Editing Wikipedia can be disheartening and tedious at times; the weekly Editor of the Week award lets its recipients know that their positive behaviour and collaborative spirit is appreciated. The response from the honorees has been enthusiastic and thankful.

The list of nominees is running short, and so new nominations are needed for consideration. Have you come across someone in your editing circle who deserves a pat on the back for improving article prose regularly, making it easier to understand? Or perhaps someone has stepped in to mediate a contentious dispute, and did an excellent job. Do you know someone who hasn't received many accolades and is deserving of greater renown? Is there an editor who does lots of little tasks well, such as cleaning up citations?

Please help us thank editors who display sustained patterns of excellence, working tirelessly in the background out of the spotlight, by submitting your nomination for Editor of the Week today!

In addition, the WikiProject is seeking a new facilitator/coordinator to handle the logistics of the award. Please contact L235 if you are interested in helping with the logistics of running the award in any capacity. Remove your name from here to unsubscribe from further EotW-related messages. You responded to this message by deleting it with the edit summary:
The other guy was performing obvious vandalism and has been blocked already.
I would disagree that his actions were obvious vandalism, as his intent appeared to be to set right the name of the label on which Diaz records. As I can find no source to support either label (Konn or NONAME) as being correct, I can't say that his edit introduced incorrect information. I will admit that he became belligerent in the face of your reverts, but that's what happens sometimes when people are called vandals for trying to improve an article. I think you could have been less bitey by engaging in a discussion rather than blind reverting with little or no explanation. I have appealed to Widr to unblock the other user so that you and he can engage in a useful discussion about the content dispute. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 18:23, 24 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dragons Breath Chilli[edit]

Hi CLCStudent I made changes to this article and cited the BBC, Nottingham Post for correct information.

Mike Smith tried to rip us off with respect to the source of the Dragons Breath Chilli Plant and after his illicit pre-announcement corrections went into the sources I changed.

I want this corrected as the Dragons Breath Chilli was created by ChilliBobs Ltd - My son Neal - and was leant to Mike Smith for him to show at Chelsea.

His claims were outrageous - kill you.... weapons grade etc... This article shows that Neal Price was creator or the plant: http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/north-east-news/dragons-breath-worlds-hottest-chilli-13083936 This article - NottsTV shows the correct information - https://nottstv.com/watch-nottingham-dancers-launch-worlds-hottest-chilli-chelsea-flower-show/ This article - BBC - was a retraction from a previous article where Mike had claimed it was his: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-north-east-wales-39946962

I had included these items in the changes I made. This was not vandalism but the facts.

Can we please have this changed. I thought I had corrected the references properly but maybe you saw another error?

Many thanks

ArbCom 2017 election voter message[edit]

Hello, CLCStudent. Voting in the 2017 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 10 December. All users who registered an account before Saturday, 28 October 2017, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Wednesday, 1 November 2017 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Why the undo?[edit]

In History of Nepal wikipage, why have you undone my edit? any reasons for it? All the citations are linked and of a reliable source. Nothing in my edit isn't supported by a citation and I've tried to make the page unbiased unlike before where the Prehistoric section seemed to be biased toward one group of people while ignoring others and without citations.

I don't remember why I undid it. CLCStudent (talk) 12:25, 12 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Rian Johnson, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Nathan Johnson (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Hey,

The Trump-Putin connection thing is bogus. We allll love the Mueller investigation but people like Louise Mensch have gone off the deep end with this stuff.

This is the only source, cited anywhere, for the claim.

Doesn't the fact that she gave a lot of money to Hillary Clinton tell you that she probably wouldn't attend this, no matter how close she and Ivanka are? (Which isn't very close, btw.)

WP:UAA reports on users with no edits[edit]

Information iconGenerally, there is no reason to report usernames with no edits whatsoever. Per WP:UAAI: "Wait until the user edits. Do not report a user that hasn't edited unless they are clearly a vandal. We do not want to welcome productive editors with a report at UAA, nor do we want to waste our time dealing with accounts that may never be used." The exceptions are obvious hate speech or names that attack a living person/Wikipedia editor, those are blockable even without any edits, but other run-of-the-mill violations need not be reported unless and until they at least attempt to edit, and you should be able to clearly explain what the problem is if it is not immediately evident.

For whatever reason, every day dozens, if not hundreds of accounts are created that never make one single edit. It is our responsibility as admins to conscientiously review every report a user makes at UAA, so we have to check for contribs, deleted contribs, and tripping of the edit filter for every one of these reports, only to find out there's nothing there and therefore no problem to be solved. So we add the {{wait}} tag to the report, it goes to WP:UAA/HP for a week or more, and must then be reviewed again to see if the account has since become active before removing it. That's time that could be spent doing more productive things, but you basically obligate admins to do it by making such reports. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:55, 25 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please explain what vandalism I'm doing?[edit]

Well, that is the same thing as putting something on the page. CLCStudent (talk) 17:20, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No it isnt. And even if it was its still better than blanking the page which is what you two clowns seem to thyink is constructive. If you think its wrong you should post about it in the talk page and build a consensus before doing this mass deletion. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 180.198.12.86 (talk) 17:26, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You can't justify your position or build a consensus so you just use your pals admin privileges to get your way. That isn't how wikipedia is supposed to be. If an edit is contested you're supposed to discuss it. Not hurl vandalism accusations and stop people from editing.

I am not the one who blocked you. Widr blocked you because I reported you, and he agreed with me. If you were right, Widr would have just as easily turned on me. You know that what you did was wrong, and you are currently evading a block. Also, for your information, I have been doing this job for over two years, and Arjay has been here even longer. We both know exactly how Wikipedia works. CLCStudent (talk) 17:57, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Will you stop it with the vandalism accusations?? Just because somebody doesn't think the same as you doesnt mean its vandalism. That user has a talk page full of warnings. How come your so happy to hurl vandal accusations at me but not at actual vandals?

Because you are doing vandalism. You are also refactoring my comments, which is not allowed by any mean. CLCStudent (talk) 18:06, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How does warning a vandal constitute vandalism? That person has a talk page full of vandalism warnings, so clearly a vandal. Im warning them, which is what we're supposed to do. Whats the problem?

The problem is that you are changing the warnings that I put. CLCStudent (talk) 18:11, 6 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

well now my warning is clearly seperate

ENGVAR[edit]

Information icon Hello. In a recent edit, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to India, use Indian English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand or Ireland, use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author of the article used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. --John (talk) 19:50, 21 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm CLCStudent. I wanted to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions to La Nación have been undone because they did not appear constructive. My edit that you reverted consisted of adding one single letter to the article, by changing "26-story Post-modern office building" to "26-storey Post-modern office building".

In case of doubt about edits like this, I would suggest consulting a dictionary before reverting them and serving the boiler-plate excuse that the edit "did not appear constructive".

I see no utility in reverting a vandal who writes an abusive unblock request, and you've probably violated WP:TALK and WP:UP#CMT by doing so. Also, why warn a vandal who's already blocked and already received a 4im warning? Just leave it alone and let an admin remove talk page access. Dispute on changes to The Office/Lice[edit]

The current synopsis of the episode is inaccurate. Meredith does not react with "delight", she reacts with anger. a suggestion[edit]

When you see edits such as made by User:2409:4072:629D:9EF1:D4B6:2876:D527:13E0, it would probably be better if you didn't give them a vandalism warning, because they would probably never recognize their personal beliefs as vandalism. Burnsville, North Carolina[edit]

Be careful about reverting edits for the reason "unexplained removal of content", especially when the content being removed is unsourced. In your revert here I think you inadvertently restored vandalism. In general, if the content being removed is unsourced, I generally assume that it is being removed on that basis that it is unsourced, which is protected by policy in that an editor cannot restore the challenged content without a citation to a reliable source.
