Hey, just read the Communication subpage you created, and I just wanted to say it is absolutely fantastic! Very appropriate and truly accurate. I really hope others (both new here and "old-timers") will find and read that essay. When it was used in conjunction with the ref tag - it caused a funkey alignment for the sentence, and was the likely culprit for the spacing issues in that paragraph. There is sup, and sub - sub is a subscript (footnote kind of thing) example. If I have this text - and I put the sup tags around it like this If I have <sup>this text</sup> ... it will look like If I have this text The sub I mentioned puts it at the bottom. Heidelberg Raceway

I replied on my talk page. I notice that you're planning this article on Heidelberg Raceway. I'd love to help! It was one of the original NASCAR tracks for Strictly Stock's (now Sprint Cup) first season! Of course I have lots of sources for a track that important. I'd expect it to be an easy WP:DYK. The track held 4 Sprint Cup events (as Strictly Stock and Grand National) plus 1 NASCAR Convertible race [2]. That makes it inherently notable. It was an original NASCAR track. I've found enough independent reliable sources that it won't matter anyhow. Yes, I know OrangeMike - even before he was an admin. We worked together at WikiProject Wisconsin. I've done a lot of the work on the older drivers! About the deleting of userpages - I noticed a least a week ago that something was going on in the deletion log. I'm like you - I don't worry about what other people are doing here in situations like this. I hate political things like that. Tim Richmond

I guess I accidentally didn't save my reply yesterday. About the AK article - go for it! As far as I'm concerned it's not complete. Of course, what article is truly complete! There were several statements that I had to remove because I couldn't source them. If you want to meet up at Slinger, email me by hitting "Email this user" on my userpage. Their season runs from early May until around the first weekend of September. Maybe you could shoot a picture of whatever exists where Heidelberg used to be.

I've copyedited the Tim Richmond article to my satisfaction. The next step is to get a few people to proofread it. Here is where it pays to have Wikifriends. It's good to have at least one person who is very knowledgeable about the topic. I'm hoping that you would be this person. It's good to have someone who is real good at English proofreading to review it. It's best if they don't understand the topic so they have no preconceptions to get in the way. I have a friend at WikiProject Wisconsin who I'll ask. Depending on how this goes, I might nominate it for GA. I'll keep you informed. One of the criteria for GA is that the article is stable. That means that there should be some time for anyone to edit the article and there cannot be any edit warring. Fortunately, it takes several days or up to a few weeks for someone to review it. Also, it's expected (and good karma) for a nominator to review another article which needs reviewing against the GA criteria. I like picking one that's ahead of mine on my list. Thanks for being willing to do the peer review/copyedit. I asked the other copyeditor for a grammar check. About Kulwicki, I've looked long and hard to find a free image of him. I've talked on the phone (literally) with his friend who's writing a book about him. I've asked several photographers on flickr, including one who used to photograph for Circle Track magazine. I have no problems with everything that you did, so I have no changes. It's hard to see these little problems without someone pointing them out to you. Keep up the great work! My philosophy for reviewing someone else's proofread is that I have to see something wrong with the change before I discuss. If I feel it's a neutral change or an improvement, I leave it be. It usually reads better with even a neutral change. I'd only change if I think it's wrong.

I'm concerned about the writing style in the NASCAR section. I had no race information from 1982 until 1985, so I think it's real dry statistics. Anything that you can do to improve the choppiness is appreciated. Another concern is that there used to be a criticism of NASCAR section talking about how people felt it was unfair that he was the only driver that had to do "random" drug testing. Another section had talked about how he had to submit his medical records to NASCAR before he would be reinstated, which he wouldn't do because he didn't want anyone to know he had AIDS (especially with the either "gay" or "drug user" stigma from that time). I couldn't find reliable sourcing, but I wasn't too sure if it belonged there in the first place. Royalbroil 05:00, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

Peter Norton

For the opening statement, I was looking for help @ the Moz. FF article. Very interesting. FF mentions market share. I know that NAV/NIS is the most popular and most used product in the world; however I lack exact numbers. According to Symantec, they protect more people in the world than anyone else. However, I think that statment could be seen as advertisement/promoting Norton and it is too general. And I found it on the box of N360 I brought; I have seen it nowhere else.

So, I'm thinking about incorporating Peter Norton, somehow. However, looking at the Peter Norton article, I cannot find any interesting or notable information. Symantec just decided to use his name. TechOutsider (talk) 17:25, 1 March 2009 (UTC)TechOutsider

First before I forget, I got some clarification on GA here. OK, yep, I remember when it was Norton - I used his tools a bunch back in the 80's. He got bought out by Symantec. Could you edit those images; I edited a file with GIMP and posting it on Wikipedia, the picture was unusually distorted (horizontal lines). Otherwise, it was definitely transparent.

I REALLY hate to see this Edit. I'm not sure what precipitated this (yet), so I don't exactly know what course of action could help at this point. I am hoping that after a good nights sleep, some time with your family, and maybe a beer or frapachino you will reconsider. I'm sorry I wasn't around to help (if that would have even been an option). Maybe just going to another area for a little while would help - A couple folks here suggested that I avoid the drama pages for a bit, and it's been helpful to me. Maybe do some editing on some subjects that you enjoy, twinkle some vandalism, chime in on some of the PRODed pages. Please don't let one or two editors you don't agree with get you so down. You were working in one of the toughest areas of Wikipedia - dispute resolution often requires grabbing the most aggressive person in the room, and trying to pull them off the pile - that means you're going to get a black eye now and then. But, I guess that doesn't really help - you already know that. I will see if I can piece anything together tonight, and if there is any way to work through this.

I really am very sorry to see you feel this emotionally drained, please feel free to let me know if there is anything I can possibly do to help - sometimes just having someone to talk to can have a great healing effect. I am honored that you consider me someone that you respect, and I don't take that lightly. I'll consider your user pages a sign that "You're not home at the moment", and as such - I wouldn't feel right about leaving anything there (other than a note on the front door). I truly hope that you'll keep this line of communication open - even if it's after a short wiki-break

As promised, I did review what I could here. Again, Edit, I am sorry that you feel dismissed or discredited. My guess is that the constant strain of moderating disputes at WQA has taken an understandable emotional toll on you. Sort of like the wide receiver that goes over the middle for a passing offense - you take a lot of hits, and eventually, you get tired and start to hurt. Looks like a "straw that broke the camel's back" case. Funny how it's always the little things that can be the ones that push things over the top. To be honest though, I really didn't see anything so awful. I've seen roux and Future Imperfect at other places, and although I've never directly interacted with them (as least as far as my feeble memory can recall), I've never seen any indication of rudeness or even a hint of unfriendliness from either one of them. In fact, my perception has always been one that roux has a fantastic sense of humor when the mood calls for it. I honestly doubt that there was any dismissive intent at all, (unless there is some past history that I'm unaware of). The only possible items I can see that could be defined a little more are 1.) Moderator and 2.) Text color

1. While in the context of the WQA discussions the term moderator carries the connotation among you regulars as simply that of: Offering a third opinion in an attempt to counsel disgruntled users, and attempt to de-escalate potential problems. On a larger stage, (meaning the Internet in general) web-sites such as BBS, forums, message boards, chat rooms, etc. - a Moderator can indicate a position of authority, an editor who has the ability to remove threads, and block or ban users from a particular website (much like the "Administrator's" functions at Wikipedia).
2. Text color - I'm used to seeing all different colors and fonts through-out various IM, chat-rooms, message boards, forums, blogs, etc. In fact I never would have even noticed or thought twice about it if it hadn't been mentioned. But I guess that other than the green text on policy pages, (and the various creative signatures) - it's really not seen too much on Wikipedia.

So, in a sense I could see a new user thinking a different text color and title of moderator might be inclined to think there was some sense of authority inferred there - even though I have no doubt that wasn't the intent. So, in conclusion:

• Upon further review - I find that there has been a ruling of "No harm, no foul" - that's not to say that you were not injured on the play, you, as a valuable member of our team, obviously were. I'll call a suspension of the game, everybody belly up to the bar, I'm buying the first round! Past v. Present tense

I would think that for the NIS / NAV articles it would be fine to write in present tense since the topic is current. If however you are referring to a past event or state (NAV 2006 runs slowly in such-and-such a case) then I would probably write that in past tense. If there is something in particular you'd like me to look at, drop me a link.

On a side note - I have to apologize for not getting back to you on the image issues. By the time I got around to looking at things, it appeared that Huntster was helping you get the items sorted out. To be honest, I am not up to speed at all on the image issues. I'll have to research that very soon though because as a (hobbyist) photographer, I'll be adding some content before long. Since my brother is a professional photographer, I'm pretty well clued in to the concerns on copyright issues, but not from a Wikipedia standpoint.

I've done some more thinking about my accidental deletion and here's my best guess: I was using Huggle, and if you look at the time stamps for our edits they were at the same time. My guess is that you saved yours a split second before mine, so when Huggle added a warning for the vandalism I had just reverted, your warning got wiped. It was only my second time using Huggle, but I'm pretty sure the timing thing was just a weird freak occurrence where your edited had just saved and Huggle's internal mechanisms were setting up the warning and they got conflicted. I was a bit worried that I wasn't using Huggle correctly or something, since it was my first day using it. I posted my first reply and then I took a shower and had a cup of coffee and thought about it some more and that's when I checked the time and realized what had happened. Like you, I also add talk pages of IPs that I warn for pretty much the same reasons you listed. Great minds think alike, perhaps? No worries about not replying until now, I can understand a time crunch, I'm finishing up a paper myself before I go on vacation next week (first one in years!), while running AWB for some typos in the background. As you pointed you correctly (despite what my user name says!) my name is Daniel (Dan, Danny, Danno, any of those are OK by me) and it's great to meet you. I noticed the dog on your userpage, very nice! My family owns a West Highland White Terrier ourselves and I have a pet cat as well. Anyway, nice to meet a fellow editor and I appreciate your reply--as you aptly point out it seems a lot of people don't really respond to messages you leave them (at least in my experience). Hey Konsole, sorry for delay - I was out of town for the day. Information on Lupin can be found at WP:Lupin. A couple notes of caution in case you're a new editor:

• When using the spell check - make sure you are also using the correct dictionary - there are subtle differences in versions of English (US, UK, Canada, Australia, etc.). Most editors are nice, but a few can get snippy if they perceive a slight.
• Check to see that the spell check is actually in an article, rather than a quote or reference.
• When using the anti-vandal tool, make sure it is actually vandalism, editors can get testy when an AGF edit is reverted as vandalism in the edit summary.

Judging by current Wikipedia trends, recent Wikipedia history, and the sum of discussion(s) at the individual article(s), I will assume you are referring to section #Template:Rescue. While my immediate inclination is to !vote Keep and supply an emotional response, I feel it is in the best interests of the community to evaluate this item with objectivity, reason, research, and a certain lack of emotion. As such, I am compelled to withhold an immediate and impulsive reply. The article was posted on March 5, and as the guidelines state "Articles listed here are debated for at least five days...", this allows me some breathing room. Specifically until March 10.

I believe that this particular entry is but a small thread of a deeper, and far more important issue, than the individual item may indicate. However, as this particular item must be addressed only within the scope of the specific 1 and 1/2 year old template, a considered and concise comment attending my !vote should be the most properly prepared post I am able to supply. While the tentacles of this current and rampant deletion campaign must see their way to their natural conclusion, this particular nomination will ultimately be decided by the closing admin. I would hope that overall issues will be apparent to those dealing with the larger issues. LOL .. I was referring to the topic of the situation, rather than an individual editor. This is a very hot topic at the moment, spread across many boards. There are many high-profile players involved, some whom carry a great deal of weight. My edit summary had nothing to with any particular editor, but rather a meager attempt to cast a wide eye on the overall topic. While I have some strong opinions, and I'm an inclusionist at heart - I do understand the need to keep non-notable, trivial, and "not ready for prime-time" items off the desk so to speak. I do have a rather lengthy text file which contains many of my thoughts and feelings on the matter - but it would require a less emotional and more objective re-write to achieve any measure of acceptable maturity. I'm not sure why you would feel "orphaned", and I hope that is simply a humorous sidebar. I personally appreciate your abilities, and admire your enthusiasm. I think you're a good editor, with a great future. And indeed your lineage, (sum of human knowledge), does go back to the very conception of WikiWorld - see Larry Sanger.

Sometimes winning a war requires choosing which battles to fight, sacrificing some valuable resources, knowing when to sit out a particular conflict, and observing the overall lay of the land. If your opponent has the upper-hand - evade. If your opponent has a superior tactical advantage - reposition. and perhaps most importantly ... If a battle appears to have already turned in your favor - remain in an observation area to avoid collateral damage. If a particular commander-in-chief of an opposing force is suffering attacks from all sides, and is dangerously close defeat - a last ditch, scorched earth, frontal attack is common. However, ultimately this can lead to his Waterloo. That's just my personal opinion and game-plan, your mileage may vary. Note: this is all a hypothetical mock-up. Wikipedia is indeed not a battlefield, and this is purely a euphemism for the wide-range and diverse perceptions of what is best for Wikipedia. I'm going to nom this article for DYK since the highest ever NASCAR finish by a female happened at the first race at the track when Sara Christian finished fifth. Wow, I can't believe how far you've brought the article in such a short time! I'll clean out my junk at the bottom and move it .. (The first move I did .. well, didn't work so well ...lol). I'm not sure about references, but other regular drivers were: Tommy Gale (NASCAR driver), Bob Senneker (ASA Champion), Bob James (Richard Petty crew member), Dick Trickle (NASCAR), Harold Smith, and Jody Ridley. I'll see if I can find the refs and post info. Other (possible) notes:

• Bobby Allison's brother came up and spent the year when Tom Colella bought one of Bobby's cars. Tom had trouble getting the NASCAR machine to handle on our track (wasn't Donnie - can't think of his name at the moment).
• Joe Mihallic won one of the Tri-State 150's on three wheels. When he lost the left front, he kept going the last 50 (?) laps and let the centrifical (sp?) force keep the corner off the ground.
• Joe Mihallic once broke his back when he hit a tire rolling down the front stretch. The damn flagman (one of the worst we ever had), never threw the caution when he saw the loose wheel. scared the living crap out of us fans at the time, and Joe didn't end up going to the hospital until 2 days later.

Other drivers who ran a lot of big events included: Joey Fair, Iggy Katona, Dick Trickle, Butch Miller, Gus Linder, Moose Meyers, Ed Mitchell and probably a handful of others I can't think of at the moment. Thank you very much for your supportive comments on the nomination talk page. Coincidentally, I was just telling a familiar admin, via e-mail, pretty much what you said - that I would take the job itself very seriously, that my behavior would likely pleasantly surprise the naysayers, and that I would be very cautious in the use of admin authority. The naysayers all make good points and fair complaints. You might notice that I have totally backed off from the Obama article. If I had it to do over, I would take someone's advice from last night and do nothing - drop the shields and let them take it over for a day. Or at least leave the defense of the page up to others. np Bugs, I don't doubt for a second that you'll make a great admin. I ran into similar problems at the Larry Sanger article a while back - real mess. I personally don't think that Obama is on the right path economically, and while he wasn't my choice as President - he is my President now, and I'll support him. I also did a lot of research during the campaign - and found that I was at times embarrassed by some of the accusations of various right-wing advocates - I've disowned them, but not my conservative ideas. Much of the fault lies in the previous administration I think - perhaps with the best of intentions, but often with the poorest of ideas and common sense. Well, I think that's all I'll say about the political arena here - I tend to avoid it (or at least posting to them) on Wikipedia. There's nothing anyone can say that's going to change my mind on things - only actions will convince me of Obama's quality. And as far as trying to convince anyone of my thoughts ... I'd be wasting my time.

Not really - I don't think the page should be deleted. I'm strong on the "Keep" part there - it's a moot point because the user blanked the page - no reason to delete it! The history part I'm less clear on because that is an admin task I wouldn't want to pass judgment on. There is no way I'd want to see something like that in article space, but I tend to be much more tolerant of user space. Deleting pages in user space (while they do belong to Wikipedia), just crosses the WP:BITE line as far as I'm concerned. (Excluding the notable exceptions of copyvio, legal issues, attack pages and blatant spam articles) I hope that clears up my feelings on the matter, and feel free to copy this to the MfD if it helps clarify my !vote. You might find it most beneficial for you and I to collaborate on a different article first. Having your hands in an article is the best teacher. I had User:4u1e help me with my first GA, Mario Andretti. The Formula One parts of the article had been done and his IndyCar career was about 2 sentences long. Oh the tragedy! I knew he deserved much better. The most important thing is to find high quality reliable sources and build the article from them. I was warming up to Dale at the end of his life, I admit that I wasn't sad to hear that his car had been pushed into the wall at the Daytona 500. I got profoundly sad to hear that he had passed in the incident. So you can say his name, no problems. He was an awesomely talented racer! I'll help coach you on that article if it's one of your priorities. It should be an extremely high priority for WP:NASCAR. I won't be on the 'pedia much today anymore. Just giving you some input and things to think about.

I saw Kyle Busch race 3 times last year at local Wisconsin tracks! I'm not a fan, but I was very impressed with how he handled himself. Responded, - Now, I'll admit, ''perhaps I jumped the gun. Hopefully the user will review the policy and guideline pages, at least the basics, and there won't be anymore confusion. I noticed that you also left 2 previous warnings in template format, and my third warning is pretty standard issue in these cases. However, I removed the 3rd warning and replaced with not only a welcome message, but a personalized apology as well - due solely to your {{uw-bite}} template. I'm at a bit of a loss as to why the user did not heed the previous warnings, and at least contact someone in response to those warnings. It occurs to me that most users, new or not, when confronted with 2 warnings about the edits they are making - that they would want to stop introducing unacceptable material into articles. Wikipedia is not a playground, and if the user wanted to experiment with introducing edits which obviously did not belong in the article - s/he should have been doing so in user space. And the closer I look, the more I have my doubts.

Puns can't be forced, they have to arise spontaneously. And even if they're bad, they're pretty good. And if they're really bad, that's even better. "Garden" by itself would work, but "carrots" seems better rooted. Yeh, "The Rabbit of Seville" is a classic. By then there weren't any victory gardens. You do know what a victory garden is, right? That was a prevalent theme in WWII cartoons, and one of my favorites (unfortunately not on DVD yet, if ever) had Bugsy chopping down gigantic carrots in the realm of the giant, in "Jack-Rabbit and the Beanstalk". The giant pulls a gun on Bugsy - "caught ya tampering with my Victory Garden", and then tells Bugsy he's got him covered, and not to try anything - "You can't fool me - 'cause I'm a moron!" You can get the ogg codecs here, and an external player called VLC, which is a crossplatform player - I've used it for folks that don't have DVD player software before and it works ok. I made sure that I had the ogg codec installed, and it played other files OK, but still no sound on the modified race. Daedalus, I've reviewed a lot of material since receiving this post; and I understand that you've had difficulties with other editors, as well as with your own signature. That said, might I suggest that you be a little more careful in the future. CUTKD is new, seems to be trying very hard, is fighting vandalism just as you are, and some of your actions could be taken as quite bitey. Also, I don't believe that a <big> tag pulls quite the same resources from the servers as pulling templates and parsing functions in a signature. You may also want to note that WP:SIG is a guideline, not a policy - there is a big difference. You may also want to note the line 3 items below the big tag, about color? ... green background - green text?

I see that you have articles in back to back Did You Know queues! The Heidelberg Raceway article should appear at about 10pm Chicago time and the second one for Rex White should appear at about 4am Chicago time. A nominated an image of White's NASCAR car which will be pictured beside your expansion - you got the precious top spot! I uploaded that picture from a flickr friend and I already notified him. I might do the 10pm update (I'll get someone else to credit me for the article). I suggest that you record a list your Did You Know articles - I like how some people keep the hooks. You might want to add {{User Did You Know2}} to you userpage. I'm very proud to say that I started that template (diff) to tally my DYK articles and it has achieved widespread usage. I fixed the template. You might want to display it on the right, look at the code on my userpage. I don't know how to get a screen shot. I've reproduced the main page for the April Fool's Main Page and it's a major pain even with the admin tools. I've already saved the main page with a feature on yahoo that I can't find anymore. I think it was called My Web or something like that. You can add the Richmond and Kulwicki stats at any time. The old version will be in the article's history.

I'm glad you enjoyed those racing videos! My favorite it the 6 lap dash at Slinger - just over one minute! That video kept me warm during the cold in December. I did like the ice racing. The best are easily the studded rear-wheel-drive. Watching what ends up to be IMCA Stockcars on ice is an experience that every racing fan should share. I've tried to get my cousins who are NASCAR fans to come. At least they came to that ASA races at the Milwaukee Mile. They need to come to Slinger. My favorite tracks are the tiny 1/4 milers. I don't watch many NASCAR races anymore, but I'm looking forward to Bristol this weekend. Too bad I have my niece's birthday party at that time. Maybe I can convince my family to turn it on. I should have went to that race instead. One of my pictures on flickr got selected by a NASCAR engine parts supplier (Mahle) to be used for their marketing. Instead of taking money for the picture [3], I opted for the free pit pass to a NASCAR race. I'm going to the Nationwide race at Milwaukee. I wanted to not drive real far to see the race. Hi ipatrol. Sorry I didn't get to posting any more to the WQA and AN/I threads before they closed - I tend to be slow in that regard, simply because I like to think things through for a while before I speak. I can certainly understand why you felt insulted. I also think it's best to put the whole thing in the past as well. I do agree that a couple editors said some things that they should not have, made snarky comments best left untyped, and treated you with a lack of respect that they shouldn't have. Not all ideas are going to be keepers, not every post we make is going to be a pearl of wisdom; but I agree that there is no need to make sarcastic hurtful remarks either here or in IRC. That said, I also don't see a benefit to calling editors on the carpet for every snide comment they make. We're all human, and we're all going to let our fingers hit the "Save" button without thinking things through on occasions. I don't know your actual physical age, and it's really not important to me to know. I also don't consider it to be relevant to building the wiki. I'd just suggest that you continue to work on adding quality edits to wikipedia, ignore the snide remarks of others, and take the high-road the best that you can when you do run into these occasional situations. Remember, an editors remarks reflect more on the person that is making the comment, than they do on the person they are commenting about. Thanks for the good word, Ched! Yeah, I just can't quite bring myself to leave Wiki alone entirely, so I do the occasional "maintenance" edit now and again. As for the 9-11 project, I have the first two hours of coverage (08:31 to 10:36) of the four major networks (ABC//NBC//CBS//FOX) on four DVDs. Again, it's kind of weird watching all of this again after so long, since I was in Korea when it happened, and only picked up on the coverage on CNN after the reports of fire at the Pentagon. What's even weirder is sitting and watching the ABC DVD. It starts out with GMA already in-progress, and it's like being in front of the tv on THAT morning, the picture is just that good...

The vid sounds great! Yea, as much as there are certain sections and editors that contain negative aspects - all in all I think Wiki is a good place, with mostly good people, providing a good and valuable service. Oh .. and Edit ... in case I've neglected to say this before "I greatly appreciate your service to our country." My dad served in Korea when he was a young man; but, my coming of age came at the end of the Viet Nam war, after the draft had ended. The Air Force didn't want me for a pilot because of my poor eye-sight, and for many other reasons - I failed to provide my services to any of our wonderful military forces. I do have the utmost respect, admiration, and gratitude for the men and women who have, do, and will serve our great country.

I can imagine that re-watching the 9/11 vids can elicit a great deal of emotion for you. I'm also glad you can't leave the wiki alone, your contributions are simply not easily replaced. I look forward to keeping in touch no matter how often or in what way you visit and continue to contribute to our wiki-culture. Gimp

I've been looking to improve on Paint.NET. Does this software allow you to adjust the lightness and/or contrast on specific spots on an image, for instance the "burn" feature in Fireworks? Screen shots don't do a program justice. Royalbroil 12:33, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Yep. If you select the area you want to adjust .. then go to the "Colors" .. Brightness and contrast - it will adjust only what you have selected. I have to confess though, I had to look to make sure. I still use an old version of PSP (Paint Shop Pro) that's prolly 8 years old - back when JASC still owned the program - and I'll use Corel Draw/Paint from time to time as well. I can't say much about Paint.NET since I've only looked at it briefly, it seems robust enough, I'm just not familiar enough with it to know my way around the different features. One thing that I do like about Gimp, is what TechOutsider mentions - the portability feature. I have it on one of my thumbdrives, so never need to install - just plug it in and go. Have to admit, I never knew about the extracting icons though - I'll have to check that out, were they in the .exe, a .dll, or a .icl? — Ched ~ ^(yes?)/_© 16:51, 28 March 2009 (UTC)

Well I used Snagit 9 by TechSmith to capture the Icon. I then used Gimp to remove the background colors. Very effective. No, Gimp cannot extract icons from .exe, .dll, or .icl files. I tried an icon extractor and it didn't work. Had to a little manual work, however it was very rewarding. Just love noting each X and Y coordinate to get a perfect image. I'm looking to improve my photo editing software, not improve the article. Sounds like a winner, I'll give it a try. I'm big into IT as a recent IT-Networking graduate, but I know how installing and removing programs really screws up an installation. I try to keep my computer real stagnant but not testing software on it. I want it to be able to boot in 1 or 2 minutes like it does now. I hate how my old computer used to take 10 minutes to start. I'm probably reformating/reinstalling tomorrow as we are expecting a major winter storm in Wisconsin - my internet connection will most likely be down starting in maybe 5 hours. My RfA

First of all, thanks for taking the time to look through my contributions and give some feedback. Second I'd like to address admincoachgate. To be perfectly frank, I'd forgotten that particular line in the agreement I made. Of course, "ignorance of the law is no excuse," and this is doubly true when you've actually agreed to something. Self-nomming for the RfA was a lapse a judgment, but I had no idea how strongly the community would respond. As you point out, I essentially broke my word, and that was a mistake. I've considered withdrawing the RfA, and you make a good point that WP:ER may be a better place to go, rather than letting the debacle continue to unfold at my RfA. I imagine this all more or less a moot point, as a bureaucrat will probably close the RfA before too much more time passes unless some unexpected surge of support appears.

While many of the comments on the RfA indicate a condemnation of my decision to run, I'd just like to say that all of my actions were in good faith. I sincerely believe that I would make a good administrator, and that my edit history is sufficient to demonstrate this to the community. It would absolutely have been the best course of action to discuss the matter with KnightLago first, as you point out, but as we all know hindsight is 20/20. My only reason for doing what I did was a genuine desire to help the project, and a frustration with the current administrative backlog. As such, I was acting in the spirit of WP:IAR, and just trying to improve the encyclopedia. It appears, however, that I ignored the wrong rules, and for that I am also sorry. I am very, very glad to see this working out so well. Cool3, I admire your ability to face such harsh criticize with a calm demeanor, and proceed in such a mature fashion. As for KnightLago, while I wasn't around at the time you had your RfA - I think I can see why you passed with such flying colors. Please, if I don't notice the next RfA - drop me a line, and I will be very pleased to support. On a side note, I do apologize for being so critical - in retrospect, I should not have posted to the RfA at all. Looking at the FF article, I think it's time that NIS became a GA. The FF article is a little technical, although jargon are wikilinked. GA

Hi Ched. I was reading the GA nomination process and details and found some concerning details. It stated something along the lines of the article must meet requirements set by the wikipjts it applies to. Norton Internet Security for Mac has been around for almost a decade, if not more than a decade. I cannot really find much information though. So, if NIS is rated as GA class, it will only be a GA class article in the WikiPjt Computer Security/Software/Computing categories, not the Mac category? I'll need to look a little closer to be sure, but I'm wondering if you're trancluding category with projects. I think that once an article makes GA, the category really isn't an issue. I would think that NIS would fall under the Wikipedia:WikiProject Computing as far as assessment. My understanding is that category is basically just a file system to find articles of a similar nature. The project, sort of defines how the GA standards apply to an article that would fall under that particular group of articles. You couldn't really use the guidelines from a person WP:BLP for an article about software. The basics for GA would always apply. Is the lead well writen? Is the subject explained in enough detail? Is it stable, no edit wars? Are the resources and references good ones and are they used properly?. I'm sorry I haven't spent more time on the NIS article yet - I've been reading up on sock puppets and have a few other articles I'm researching - but I will look in more detail soon. Do you want me to just "edit" or put suggestions on the peer review page? Might want to get a few other opinions from peer review too, since I've edited the article before. Tech, I think what you mean is that a Good Article should follow the standards set by its relevant WikiProjects. These standards have nothing to do with the categories that the article belongs to. A good example is an article about a Formula One driver should include the WP:F1 standard infobox that show's the driver's race results. Royalbroil 04:45, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
