Article title change request: Andrew Daniel

Hi Cindy. :) Can you please change the article title of Andrew Daniel to Drew Daniel, his common name? That's the only name he's ever gone by in his career (and personal life). He was a contestant on the TV show, Big Brother. Here are a few links for verification: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6] and [7]. A cup of tea

  • Hi, mentor Cindy, thank you for restoring notability tag to the article of Khurshid Eqbal in the existence of the source of mainstream online and print Urdu literary magazine, Jadeed Adab from Germany, Pakistan and India. I thought, as the wiki rule, at least one reliable source is needed for notability, but you referred me policies for rereading, so I have done, and appreciate your knowledge of that subject of area, especially Urdu language, you have accessed and assessed to read the short Urdu but meaning full article, written by writer, poet and editor. Actually I do not match my review and opinion with any choices, and I do realy not consider myself an academic person, but personally, as other academics, and educational institutions refuse the reliability of the whole wikipedia encyclopedia, do the same, because of that----. I assume good faith, and do not even bother if someone would add tags to every article of wiki, right or wrong.

Speedy deletion work

Hi, I have to agree with what you say. But it seems that all these articles contain no more information that their name and location and no RS could be found other than administrative lists. Cossde (talk) 09:03, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) That's more than enough. It's already more than there is about soccer players and insect genera. Short article are 'stubs' - they provide an opportunity for someone to build on them - except that it rarely happens for the footballers. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 09:28, 9 September 2012 (UTC)
  • I posted over on the other page, but thought to respond here as well. Kudpung is correct. Many school articles expand over time, starting as a stub, then growing over the years. Cossde, I think there's simply a misunderstanding of the purpose or intent of the A7 criteria. Unfortunately, many editors misunderstand the A7 criteria and use it to identify articles that lack notability. The A7 criteria has nothing to do with notability. Rather, the A7 CSD tag is used to identify articles that fail to indicate the significance and/or importance of the subject, which is a lesser standard than notability. The policy is very clear that educational institutions are exempt from the A7 criteria. Even if an article does not have sources, but still claims significance or importance, it is not eligible for A7 speedy deletion. Hope this helps.   • When I first saw the article on Wikipedia and questioned the validity, I searched online for anything that I could add that would support notability. Possibly it was a book or something, but poorly written in Wikipedia? I just wasn't sure. The only thing I found was the Facebook page, along with pure rubbish and vandalism posted across the Internet. I knew it had previously been deleted as an attack page at Elliott Argument and marked the recreation the same. After doing so, I noticed that it had been declined once under that criteria, so I removed the CSD to place a PROD, thinking the next step would be an AFD, but the edit conflict had it deleted. Original research, soapbox, essay. Blah, blah, blah. Silly stuff, really. (Disclaimer: I'm a Christian and preacher's kid, but fully able to separate my personal opinions or convictions from the policies and guidelines of what is or is not appropriate for the encyclopedia.) Again, I just wanted to help complete the definition that was already on wikipedia of Chesney Snow and made an effort to make it as neutral as possible. I sincerely appreciate your help on formatting etc. Would love to have the article on wikipedia obviously but please if you feel that the article really should not be on wikipedia please help us remove it. Thanks again Cindamuse, really appreciate your help. I think I might be getting a better idea of what you are referring to. Again a misunderstanding. So a listing of the subject generated by wikipedia does not necessarily constitute notability for wikipedia's standards, correct? It would be a challenge for me to find coverage outside of something that is covering something that I have done or new's that is covering just me as in a tabloid for example. Apologies if this is annoying just trying to understand an example of what is needed. Again the intent is not to use the page as a promotional tool but it was a simply to complete what was already listed there. When can it be determined if the article's resources will meet the general notability guidelines? Could you show me an example of what the resources or coverage would be cause I'm confused as to what would be legitimate.

Thank you for your help with this. Can you explain or give an example of significant sources, so that I know? Would be a headlining artist at the World Science Festival for example be a significant source for example? http://worldsciencefestival.com/participants/chesney_snow For example the participants of the WSF are mostly the leading figures in arts, politics, and sciences on the planet. It is completely independent of the subject or no? Would the Harvard University publication the Harvard Gazette be considered via news video if it features the subject? I'm just trying to get an understanding of what would count towards the sources to compile them. If these type of things count then I do have these. But how to use them?

Also do the multiple wikipedia pages that mention Chesney Snow on the various productions count towards significant sources? Thank you for your help on this. I was not intending to use wikipedia as a personal page or networking site by any means. Again, I was merely attempting to complete the definition of Chesney Snow that was already on wikipedia regarding the name Chesney as a given name. It does feel a bit weird that winning one of the highest honors in American theatre would not be considered a notable accomplishment but there are no egos at play here I do not wish to go against wikipedia policies, I enjoy wikipedia and would not wish to denigrate it or misuse it in anyway. It's fascinating how the articles are created. "Chesney snow" was already generated on wikipedia before the article was created.

I know for a fact that many of the biographies on wikipedia are maintained, edited, and disputed by management of living artists. It is not our intent use it as merely a promotional tool for work and life but to complete the definition that exists.   • Hey there! I just noticed that you have been posting comments in various sections and between conversations held by other editors. When you post comments on user talk pages, it is important to use the "new section" link at the top of the page, which automatically creates a new section and alerts the editor that you have left a message. It is also important to sign your comments by adding four tildes at the end of your comment, i.e., ~~~~
It is difficult to follow your intent, so I'll just provide a few answers and links below:
  1. You keep implying that you are editing on behalf of a group. How many people are editing on this account?
  2. If you want to have the article deleted, you can simply blank the content, since you are the only editor working on the article.
  3. For more information about what constitutes "significance" and "reliable", please see this link: WP:VRS. From there, make sure to click through the links provided for additional information.
  4. Wikipedia articles cannot be used as sources.
  5. The WSF source is not independent, since it merely exists to promote the musical festival.
  6. Having a name listed on Wikipedia is not an indication of notability. You can find more information about notability here: WP:N, WP:NACTOR, and WP:GNG.
  7. The Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble Performance is a noncompetitive award presented to the production and is not considered a major award.
At this point, based on the questions you have asked, I would suggest that placing the article for community discussion, may result in a better understanding of the process. Thank you Cindamuse. So after getting that information yes it makes sense to delete. There is some inaccuracy in your statement though. The Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble Performance award is considered a major award. You are actually very wrong on that. It is rarely given out and it is an award given to the cast/actors, not the production but for their actual performance. It's classification as a non-competitive award means it's akin to the special award, as the Lifetime Achievement awards are special awards. It is honestly perhaps one of the highest honors. I know this because I asked the Drama Desk committee chairperson, the other cast which received the award was The Normal Heart, a cast of some of the most respected actors in New York theatre. This year the nominators chose to bestow special ensemble awards for acting to the casts of two shows. Therefore, individual cast members for these shows were not eligible for acting awards in the competitive categories.

Also the World Science Festival is not a music festival simply seeking promotion. It is a leading science festival, implied by the name, featuring some of the leading scientists, artists, and cultural figures in the world.

Please know that you do not come off as difficult, arrogant, or prideful at all! ;) I'm hoping I can answer your questions in the best way possible for you to understand and hope that I don't come across in the same way. I certainly have no desire to detract or diminish the accomplishment and honor of receiving a Drama Desk Award. While the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Ensemble Performance may be considered a major award by the presenting organization, it is not considered a major award in the terms of Wikipedia notability. Two different schools of thought there. Among the notability guidelines for actors is:
  1. Has had significant roles in multiple notable films, television shows, stage performances, or other productions.
  2. Has a large fan base or a significant "cult" following.
  3. Has made unique, prolific or innovative contributions to a field of entertainment. (as an individual)
As far as WSF, I simply meant that the reference is a promotional piece, rather than an independent entity offering significant commentary about your individual participation in the festival. Hope that makes sense. I'm glad you are enjoying Wikipedia. I kinda like it around here too. (Although it can become addictive!) Don't blank the article yet. At this point, we need to find sources to establish notability. A quick look shows that there might be some in Gbooks. I have a migraine at the moment, but will try to look more by tomorrow.   • Thanks Ryan!. While I had already read the Independent article, I think it's more telling that in the month following the creation of the article and placement of the notability tag, nobody cared to remove the tag after establishing notability through the general notability guidelines.     • Do you know there are over 55,000 pages with that tag? Many of them are probably notable, but a lot aren't. I have no idea what the solution is. Just throwing an idea out there, what would you think of a bot that neutrally brings 7 articles a week to AFD from the list? That way the tags would actually be discussed and either removed or the article would be deleted. Ryan Vesey 22:32, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
      • That is certainly a promising idea, although I think the number of articles sent to AFD could be increased. I would also like to see a bot, similar to Suggestbot, that sends a note to editors stating something to the effect "In September, you recognized the following articles as lacking established notability. Your work reviewing these articles is greatly appreciated. At this point, you are invited to revisit these articles to review the current status. Suggested actions may include adding additional sources or content to establish notability, or sending the article for community discussion to determine whether the article should be kept or deleted." I personally don't micromanage articles. When I see that other editors are working on a specific article, oftentimes, I choose to no longer watch the article. In this regard, I think a bot to request that editors revisit articles where they previously placed maintenance tags would be welcome. Your thoughts? Cindy(talk to me) 01:31, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

GOCE September 2012 drive wrap-up

Guild of Copy Editors September 2012 backlog elimination drive wrap-up

Participation: Out of 41 people who signed up this drive, 28 copy-edited at least one article. Thanks to all who participated! Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: We achieved our primary goal of clearing July, August, September and October 2011 from the backlog. This means that, for the first time since the drives began, the backlog is less than a year. At least 677 tagged articles were copy edited, although 365 new ones were added during the month. The total backlog at the end of the month was 2341 articles, down from 8323 when we started out over two years ago. We completed all 54 requests outstanding before September 2012 as well as eight of those made in September.

Copy Edit of the Month: Voting is now over for the August 2012 competition, and prizes will be issued soon. The September 2012 contest is closed for submissions and open for voting. The October 2012 contest is now open for submissions. Everyone is welcome to submit entries and to vote.

It's easier than ever to be a Host at the Teahouse

  • A new and improved Host Lounge which features calls to action and resources.
  • A simplified Host sign up process. It just takes a few simple steps to add your new profile to our new Host profile page.
  • Concerned about how much time you have to contribute? Don't be. With our new automated Host check in system Hosts can feel less pressure to participate outside of their volunteer capacity - only participate when you want.
  • Teahouse invitations are currently automated! We encourage you to keep inviting, but, there is no pressure or quotas as HostBot does the task for the you.

Hi Cindy. :) Can you please get Emblem 3 renamed to Emblem3, their correct name. They are contestants on the current season of The X Factor and have never stylized their name as Emblem 3. The name can be verified at The X Factor article, on the X Factor contestants page, and on the group's official website. Also, here are some of the many reliable sources that verify their name is Emblem3: [8][9][10][11][12][13][14]. There are dozens more if you need them.
