A tag has been placed on Sondra McCoy requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Accounting4Taste:talk 23:12, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Removing Speedy at Sondra McCoy[edit]

Please do not remove speedy deletion tags from articles you created, as you did with Sondra McCoy. If you do not believe the article deserves to be deleted, then please do the following:

  1. Place {{hangon}} on the page. Please do not remove any existing speedy deletion tag(s).
  2. Make your case on the article's talk page.

Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the article. Thank you. - SDPatrolBot (talk) 23:47, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there!
I've moved your help request over here, to your own talk page.
I'm not quite sure what you are asking, but for a general 'getting started' I'm going to put my own 'welcome' message below. Hopefully, that will give you some ideas.
If you have any more specific questions, you can either;
  • Leave a message on my own talk page; OR
  • Use a {{helpme}} - please create a new section at the end of your own talk page, put {{helpme}}, and ask your question - remember to 'sign' your name by putting ~~~~ at the end; OR
  • Talk to us live, with this or this.
Best wishes,  Chzz  ►  01:04, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. Looking now at the article Sondra McCoy, and the fact that you left your message on the talk page of the user that requested deletion, I'm guessing you wanted to know more about that.
The article is being considered for deletion because it does not seem to meet notability requirements, as detailed in WP:BIO.
There is a note about this on the talk page of the article, Talk:Sondra McCoy.
Please read about how to make your first article.
Best wishes,  Chzz  ►  01:08, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome from Chzz[edit]

Hi, Cobralv3. This is NOT some automated message...it's from a real person. You can talk to me right now. Welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed you've just joined, and wanted to give you a few tips to get you started. If you have any questions, please talk to us. The tips below should help you to get started. Best of luck!  Chzz  ►  01:04, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ようこそ
  • You don't need to read anything - anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people.
  • Ask for help. Talk to us live, or edit this page, put {{helpme}} and describe what help you need. Someone will reply very quickly - usually within a few minutes.
  • Edit existing articles, before you make your own. Look at some subjects that you know about, and see if you can make them a bit better. For example, Wikipedia:Cleanup#2009.
  • When you're ready, read about Your first article. It should be about something well-known, and it will need references.

Good luck with editing; please drop me a line some time on my own talk page.

There's lots of information below. Once again, welcome to the fantastic world of Wikipedia!

Removing Speedy at Sondra McCoy[edit]

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself, as you did with Sondra McCoy. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion, and make your case on the page's talk page. Thank you. - SDPatrolBot (talk) 02:08, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your question[edit]

Thanks for your note. I assume you were trying to get in touch with me directly because I tagged the page you created for speedy deletion. Assessing articles is part of "new page patrol", where I frequently volunteer; I'm an administrator here, which means I can delete them too. New page patrollers look at new articles and try to see if they meet our standards. As Chzz mentioned above, I left a note on the page that might be hard to understand for a new user; essentially, I was suggesting that the article didn't meet our standards of notability for people. New users sometimes think that the existence of a topic is enough reason for it to have a Wikipedia article, but actually there are a handful of basic standards that volunteers try to make sure that new articles meet. The one about the notability of people says that people must be notable (special, important, different, much-talked-about); that notability has to be spoken about by experts writing in things like books, magazines and newspapers, and not the person themselves; and the opinions of the experts have to be verifiable. I researched your book and found that, as near as I can tell, it is self-published; that means that it doesn't contribute to notability because it's something you've said about yourself. Similarly, your website is self-publishing. And there were no quotes from experts that would let anyone confirm that the things you said were true. It's also usually a problem when a person writes an article about themselves in Wikipedia; it's considered a conflict of interest because it's very hard to be objective about your own accomplishments. Right now, the article may or may not be deleted; you might have time to add references if you have some that meet our requirements. You can find more information about our policies by following the links in this paragraph and on this page; WP:Your first article and WP:Why was my article deleted? are useful ones that I recommend to you. And if you need more help, you can leave a note for me, for User:Chzz, or there are many other ways you can learn more about how to contribute here. I hope that anyone you encounter here will help you as much as they can; User:Chzz and I certainly will. (If a user has "bot" in its name, it's usually an automated program and won't respond.) Good luck with your efforts. Accounting4Taste:talk 02:10, 15 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
