I think an old "friend" is back

Check out the recent edit history on Jerome Randle. Rikster2 (talk) 01:29, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

@Rikster2: Yeah, they have been back for a while now. This person still edits NBL stuff every now and then, and the IP always changes, but usually starts with 120. See Charles Jackson (basketball) history. DaHuzyBru (talk) 05:00, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
Does this 2014 edit look like the same person? I'm seeing a lot of Australian IPs editing Chinese Basketball Association. I don't want to make this a witch hunt on any Australian IP, but I'm wondering if DaHuzyBru know what's the general CBA interest in those parts?—Bagumba (talk) 17:54, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
@Bagumba: Oh yeah, that's the same person for sure. They often edit Chinese stuff, as seen here. The style is exactly the same. In terms of CBA interest in Australia, there is none. DaHuzyBru (talk) 18:42, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
And this IP from Adelaide, but undid one of your edits saying he's got inside info being from Perth, and also edited CBA ... likely them too?—Bagumba (talk) 18:51, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
Pretty sure User:Apipia is.—Bagumba (talk) 18:54, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
If you have any other candidates from editing Aussies basketball, might as well round them up now.—Bagumba (talk) 18:56, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
Yes to both. Every time they edit logged out, it's a different IP, but the number usually starts with 120. For Apipia, wasn't certain until this with the "Source: ref" edit summary. DaHuzyBru (talk) 18:58, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
Any other common behavioral quirks you know of?—Bagumba (talk) 19:08, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
Nah, nothing you don't already no of. Just Australia and Chinese basketball related stuff, good example. I just can't fathom this person's blatant BS over at Jimbo Wales talk page. I've never come across such an unusual editor in all my time on Wikipedia. Oh the dribble... DaHuzyBru (talk) 19:15, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
There's plenty of dramaboards here, his talk page being one of them.—Bagumba (talk) 19:29, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

NBL

Hey dude, thanks for checking out my NBL stuff. I tried to get season articles for most clubs a few seasons back but it became a bit overwhelming. I created the game log templates with colour cells for the NBL teams. I'm going to slowly get back into some editing for the NBL. Mainly just messaging to say hi.

I'm assuming you're the main editor of the Perth Wildcats. Good effort. (If anything, the history might be getting a tab bit long and you might want to consider creating a "history of..." page and condense the history section). Lot of info, kudos!

I have to ask you one thing though. You support Boston Celtics and the Red Sox so how come you can't get on board the New England Patriots? (or is it more a GB are green and gold like our national colours thing? sorry I guess that's two questions ;-)) —Eccy89 (talk) 08:42, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

@Eccy89: Yeah I saw your Hawks season article. I personally don't care for team season articles, but there have been 36ers and Breakers ones in the past that I've kept an eye on. If you want to commit to creating them, I'd endorse that, I just wouldn't create them myself. In terms of the Wildcats, a one-and-done user came through and went ballistic, as you can see here. I later went through and cleaned it all up, but yes, it could probz be cut down more. And about the Patriots, I have an uncle and aunt who live in Boston, and early on I got into the Celtics and Red Sox, but never American football. I eventually got into American football when Channel One (that former "sports" channel) started showing NFL in 2010. I saw a random game once and the Packers happened to be playing, so I chose "the green team". They went on to win the NFL that season, and I actually watched the Superbowl live that year on Channel One when the Packers won. So since then, I've been a fairly big Packers fan, much to the dismay of my aunt. But I did go for the Patriots in last season's Superbowl, so there you go! I also "go for" the Bruins, so it's only the Boston football team I do not support. DaHuzyBru (talk) 09:41, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
Haha, nice. wow that editor was going crazy with the amount of multiple edits! (obviously never saw the "show preview" button?) good story re: patriots/packers. you're not in the minority as a packers fan in aus though (i think a lot of people go for them cos of the colour...) i read an interesting article about the history of the bruins name the other day (hmmm...should have looked to see if it was on wiki too...) nb: not really that interesting (the owner guy wanted it that way and the name stuck). —Eccy89 (talk) 12:22, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
I did warn the user twice about using the preview button, but to no avail. They eventually ceased their rampage. The Packers are doing well this year, so I'm happy. I assume you support the Illawarra Hawks yeah? I've always liked Oscar Forman, but with Bevo, Lisch and Ellis at the club, I've jumped on the Hawks bandwagon. DaHuzyBru (talk) 13:50, 21 October 2015 (UTC)
Yeah man, I'm hoping Bevo can recapture the vibe from Perth a few seasons ago and lead us to some championships. Couple of rocky games to start but two consecutive wins and looking good. Havent seen much of the Packers this season. I had Lacy in my fantasy team last year and was worried just about every week that he wasnt gonna start. He has some mean locks though! —Eccy89 (talk) 07:09, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
Oh hey, just a quick one, totally forgot – what was the reasoning behind removing some of the redlinks on the Tyson Demos article (namely Bevo) - I thought the idea was to keep redlinking so that people could ("get inspired" and) create the pages. Or is Bevo not notable enough to have own article (sorry I havent come across notoriety for basketball yet)? —Eccy89 (talk) 07:21, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
Erm, it's kinda just a personal thing – I don't really like articles with heaps of red links in it, let alone red links that wont have articles in the near future. For example, Illawarra Basketball Association is very unlikely to get an article, but something like "Illawarra Hawks (Waratah League)" might at some stage (if they return to senior competition that is). Even Bevo is unlikely to get an article unless someone like you or me commit, which I personally wont – I don't really have an interest in coaches. Reinsert them if you wish, I'm not gonna lose sleep over it :) DaHuzyBru (talk) 09:30, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
Fair enough dude. Wasn't really a big deal. I think it looks better the way it is currently. If I find enough refs for Beveridge (and he delivers us a championship) I might create his article. I'll just re-add it later (if it happens...) —Eccy89 (talk) 09:39, 22 October 2015 (UTC)

Ben Simmons

He was named preseason Southeastern Conference Player of the Year in case you'd like to add that to his article (it's a bigger deal than being on the Blue Ribbon Yearbook cover). Rikster2 (talk) 14:00, 22 October 2015 (UTC)

Illawarra Hawks

If there is a second-division club with the same name there probably should be some sort of indicator so readers (like me) don't get confused. We sometimes see "FC Barcelona Bàsquet B" and the like. Rikster2 (talk) 14:50, 22 October 2015 (UTC)

The second division team is currently not active as they did not enter the Waratah League this year. What would you suggest? A separate article? DaHuzyBru (talk) 15:05, 22 October 2015 (UTC)

"Source:" sock

It seems like this old sock hops around to an assortment of IPs. I reblocked the usual suspects that had recent activity. Let me know if you see others lurking from down under. Cheers.—Bagumba (talk) 22:44, 10 November 2015 (UTC)

@Bagumba: Will do! They pop around every now and then. DaHuzyBru (talk) 05:46, 11 November 2015 (UTC)

Leandro Barbosa

Why did you revert my edition? Luizengmec (talk) 15:07, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

@Luizengmec: We don't need to update stats during the season. Other websites do that. The stats that are added to Wikipedia are not going to be updated often enough for them to relevant. I doubt you would be willing to update them after every game. Per the norm, stats tables are updated at season's end. DaHuzyBru (talk) 15:37, 29 November 2015 (UTC)

Pleiß

I saw that you changed Pleiß height to 2.21 m, and that is for me pretty funny in some way... You probably never heard for this player untill he signed with the Jazz but i know him for many years, and one thing that i know for sure that he is definitely not 2.21 m tall. Many reliable sources from European basketball list him even as 2.15 or 2.16 [1] [2]... Euroleague.net, ACB.com, and even his official web site list him as 2.18 m.--Bozalegenda (talk) 14:44, 1 December 2015 (UTC)

@Bozalegenda: First off, I had heard of him before his Jazz signing. I'm a basketball nut, not just an NBA fan – my spread of basketball goes from lower leagues in Australia, to NBA, to a leagues like the Irish Premier League. I'm weird like that. But yes, I'm not the biggest European basketball follower or Tibor Pleiß fan. I am, however, aware of the different interpretations European sources have to the NBA. I didn't change his height to "2.21 m", it changed it to 7'3" because that is what his current league lists him as, and his current league is in the US where they use the metric system. I'm up for possibly listing it differently and using a hidden note, but when I came across his height and weight listed differently to NBA.com without a hidden note (to explain why it's listed as such), I changed it in good faith. You see though, with all those sources you listed, they all list varying heights. 215, 216, 218... what one is more correct or most accurate? I personally don't know, which is why it's much simpler to just use NBA's listing. Overall, the infobox field has "listed height", not "true height". His current listed height is 7'3". DaHuzyBru (talk) 16:32, 1 December 2015 (UTC)

Ben Simmons

You removed "Ben" from "Ben Simmons", but the previous paragraph referred to "Dave and Julie Simmons" and also referred to him only by his first name "Ben" i.e. " their age span is 15 years (Melissa to Ben)". I'm by no mean an English expert, but I think "Ben Simmons" is needed to qualify which of the Simmonses from the previous paragraph was being referred to without guessing it the same as the article's subject. I think WP:SAMESURNAME hints at this: "If an article mentions both Andrea Dworkin and Ronald Dworkin, who are unrelated but might be in the same article because he wrote about her work, for subsequent mentions it would usually be correct to refer to them by full names or sometimes by given names."—Bagumba (talk) 09:47, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

True, I just don't like using first names in articles. But in this instance, it doesn't sound right using "Melissa to Simmons". I try to use the person's last name in all articles when it's theirs because it's referring to them, but I can come to terms with this. Cheers. DaHuzyBru (talk) 09:51, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
Typically surname is fine, it just starts looking weird when the parent's full names are introduced, and in this case we needed to refer to him by "Ben", but then we go back to Simmons. I think "Ben Simmons" is correct, as I vaguely think other articles do the same thing, though I can't think of one specifically offhand, and the MOS is vague. Anyways, back to "real editing" :-)—Bagumba (talk) 10:03, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

As an aside, if we use DMY date format for Australian players, why is it we don't list metric before imperial measurements in the infobox?—Bagumba (talk) 10:07, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Cause that's what he's currently listed as. There was a discussion recently on this, and I think the general consensus was for international player playing in the NBA, it's best to use NBA listing. So should be no different for Simmons. He isn't listed as 208 cm, 109 kg; he's listed as 6'10", 240 lb. Metric measurements are usually more specific as well – Simmons is still listed as 203 cm by Basketball Australia. Many sources list different measurements, which is why it's best to use what ever their current team/league lists them as IMO. DaHuzyBru (talk) 10:37, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
There's |height_order= and |weight_order= on {{Infobox basketball biography}} that allows taking one set of measurements as input, but listing the converted one first. So you can use the current team's measurement, but not list it first.—Bagumba (talk) 10:45, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
Come to think of it, I was doing that on Jonah Bolden, but I guess someone wanted ft before m instead.—Bagumba (talk) 10:47, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
If you want to go ahead and do that, please, by all means. In saying that, I won't be bothering with that. I don't think it's a big deal, and not that it means much, but as an Australian myself, I have no issues with Australians being listed with feet and inches when listed as such in the US. DaHuzyBru (talk) 10:50, 8 December 2015 (UTC)
I'll pass on more work LOL. But I guess you need your day before the month though. I guess Canadians don't care with Steve Nash.—Bagumba (talk) 10:57, 8 December 2015 (UTC)

Writing a new article

Help!!!!!! I have an article written in my sandbox on the National Inventor's Hall of Fame STEM High School that will replace the Central-Hower High School article, but I don't know how to put it on Wikipedia. Can you help me? The web address is https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Hardcoreromancatholic/sandbox&action=edit&preload=Template%3AUser_Sandbox%2Fpreload. Hardcoreromancatholic (talk) 03:39, 12 December 2015 (UTC)

@Hardcoreromancatholic: I'm not sure why you've randomly come to me for this, I don't know anything about either topic. In terms of the sandbox link – I would need to have a preview look at the article first, but your sandbox is empty. In any case, just update the Central-Hower article with the new info and move the article to National Inventors Hall of Fame STEM High School, if you so incline. Boban Marjanović

Thanks for your edits on Boban Marjanović article. In fact, I wanted to make exactly the same edits as you did, but I somehow messed up. Thanks again for correcting what I originally intended to do. – Sabbatino (talk) 13:37, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

@Sabbatino: No worries. I was confused by that "NBA" addition, it just seemed off. All good, cheers for bringing it up here. DaHuzyBru (talk) 14:18, 23 December 2015 (UTC)

About vandalisms

Hi there. Regarding to vandals, I am pretty sure you know this already, you can report them to WP:AIV. There, more admins will be able to know your report. But, it is still up to you on which approach you will use. Just suggesting, you know. Regards! -- Babymissfortune 16:26, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

@Babymissfortune: Aye, I am aware of those avenues. I have three or four regular admins that I go to on the rare occasions I need to. However, over the hour or so that IP was going awol, they were all inactive, so I was searching for a quick fix with an active admin. I find going directly to admins much quicker than waiting for a response at AIV. Cheers anyway! DaHuzyBru (talk) 17:19, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

Lindsay Tait

It was among a list of requests. They didn't want anything to be said about their children which seemed reasonable. I deleted the whole thing since it ended up being one statement about their life all by it's lonesome which just looked silly to me. Hope this helps! --MurderByDeletionism"bang!" 19:31, 7 January 2016 (UTC)

@MurderByDeadcopy: Yeah, that's fair enough. Cheers for the response. I was wondering though, where exactly do these requests come through and how did you find out about it? And also, I think the problem was that an anon added info about his new partner. I don't think having info about his grandmother's sporting history was a big deal (as it is public knowledge), but I respect his wishes if that is the case. Hey there, are you any good at engineering user boxes? Regards, Spy007au (talk) 23:07, 19 January 2016 (UTC)

Countries/leagues after teams in basketball infobox

I think they should go across the board personally. That space can only get so much info into it and we are at the point where the vast majority of current clubs have articles. Also, it feels like this information should be in the article but people are using the infobox to avoid writing real articles. I just have seen too many cases where editors are abbreviating "Czech Republic" to "Czech," "South Korea" to "Korea," or abbreviating other longer country names to fit one line. If it won't fit in one line, maybe that's a sign that the info shouldn't be there. Not ranting at you, mind you, just ranting ;-) Rikster2 (talk) 16:58, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

@Rikster2: Oh, no doubt. I agree with you. I would 100% be up for a vote against having countries listed in the infobox, and I know User:Bozalegenda feels strongly about not having countries listed either. When I create articles, I tend to stay clear of it. However, there are a number of users who add them and it's spread like wild fire. I personally thinks it's clunky, especially when there are over 10 teams or so. So yeah, I'm not going to mass remove or remove whenever I see them, but I do agree with you. DaHuzyBru (talk) 17:20, 20 January 2016 (UTC)

Westbrook triple-doubles

What would you think of removing the table at Russell Westbrook#Triple-doubles and just adding his running total to his 'Player profile" section with source to the the b-r.com query? I personally think the table is overkill, but will leave it in your hands.—Bagumba (talk) 08:45, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

@Bagumba: Nope, I endorse getting rid of it for sure. I haven't been bold enough to remove it myself, and it's a drag to update it every time. I have no personal connection to it, it was added well before I started keeping the article updated. DaHuzyBru (talk) 10:43, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for taking the ax to it!—Bagumba (talk) 05:26, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, finally committed to a bit of a clean up. I reckon the player profile section still needs work. The references cited in that section are a few years old. But overall, it's better to state his 30 triple-doubles than list them! DaHuzyBru (talk) 05:33, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
If I wanted to cause storm, I'd clean it from List of career achievements by LeBron James and the like. But those are out of sight, out of mind for me, and it's better that fanboys stay there and don't get to the rest of WP.—Bagumba (talk) 05:56, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
Oh for sure. I'd never bother myself with something like that. A list like that is a bit these Wikias floating around – oh the dribble. DaHuzyBru (talk) 06:04, 3 February 2016 (UTC)

"I just added that - it keeps February and 13 together and not on different lines, it's so "February 13" stays together (perhaps your screen shows it differently?" It does. Google Chrome thing, I guess. I'll let it be, then. Intruder007 (talk) 06:35, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

@Intruder007: Yeah, on my screen (MacBook Pro), "13" begins on a new line. Bigger/smaller screens would make it appear differently. It's by no means a big deal either way, I just personally hate seeing it on my end. DaHuzyBru (talk) 06:38, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
I can imagine it. It's very annoying when it happens. Intruder007 (talk) 06:40, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
You never know what screen size people are using (monitor vs mobile). Plus, they might not have their browser at full size. If we were to be safe, {{nbsp}} should always be used per MOS:NBSP, though it's rarely done.—Bagumba (talk) 06:56, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

Touché

"where'd you even get that title from?!": I had copied the citation from the All-Star article, so it's probably one of those things where the title changed over time. Anyways, I somehow misread the diff and thought you had mistakenly put the title of the actual game recap, so just semi-reverted without actually looking at the article. Then I realized that I didn't know what the fuck I was doing, and put the title back. So that's hopefully my 1 of 100 stupid edit quota.—Bagumba (talk) 20:00, 15 February 2016 (UTC)

@Bagumba: We all fuck up ay. I was like, am I missing something?? :-) DaHuzyBru (talk) 08:56, 16 February 2016 (UTC)

Random question

DaHuzyBru - just a random question for a basketball fan in Australia. Do they still produce NBL trading cards? I have a mid-90s set by Futura but when I investigate on eBay I don't see anything from the last decade or so. Just curious. Thanks Rikster2 (talk) 14:04, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

None that I know of. The NBL isn't relevant enough for something like that. Back when the league was really popular in the 1990s, cards would have been huge – also because those were the days when trading cards were "the shit". DaHuzyBru (talk) 15:00, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

Lawson

Ty Lawson is going to the Pacers, havent you heard Clueless2222 (talk) 11:35, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

@Clueless2222: Lawson is reportedly signing with the Pacers. However, the deal is not official yet. Right now, it is just a rumor. Once the Pacers post a press release here, we can update it. Please wait until the signing is official before adding such information to the article. Cheers. DaHuzyBru (talk) 12:23, 5 March 2016 (UTC)

Harden

I'm baffled. How is my edit 'less powerful' than the guy who keeps reverting me? Where's his warning? Harden won the NBA Players Association did he not?! So my edit is correct. Shall I add a link or two to prove it?! He should be the one receiving a warning as he is reverting a fact that I'm simply adding. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sanfranfanad (talkcontribs) 19:11, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

@Sanfranfanad: Again, there is no consensus to add that particular award to the infobox per WP:NBASTYLE. Myself and the other user have disagreed and removed your addition. By you repeatedly adding it back into the article is edit warring. Per the warning on your talk page, your duty now is to discuss the issue on the article talk page or discuss with the users who have disputed the addition. To continue re-adding it is edit warring, which in some cases, can warrant a block. DaHuzyBru (talk) 19:35, 29 March 2016 (UTC)
And to address the issue at hand – the award is not that notable. It does not need to be listed in the infobox. It is however covered in the prose – see the 2014–15 season section. Myself and the other user are not disputing the integrity of your edit (I am aware of the award, I added the info to the 2014–15 section myself), we are disputing the need for it to be listed in the infobox per Wikipedia consensus. DaHuzyBru (talk) 19:43, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

I see. So I need to discuss this in the talk section. Is that correct? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sanfranfanad (talkcontribs) 20:06, 29 March 2016 (UTC)

That would be the next step, yes. Or start a discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Basketball Association to get others involved. DaHuzyBru (talk) 04:24, 30 March 2016 (UTC)

antenokouyo

What is the excuse? Why do you subtract the useful categories on? Giannis Antetokounmpo

@Molosionis: The other two users who reverted you obviously disagree with you. By you persistently re-adding the information is edit warring and is unconstructive. Per the warning I posted on your talk page, if you are reverted multiple times, DO NOT keep re-adding the information. Your duty is to discuss the problem and come to a consensus with the users involved. DaHuzyBru (talk) 12:12, 3 April 2016 (UTC)

Antetokounmpo

Yeah, I can put it in my watch list. About the NBA.com bio thing, I think they just made a mistake and either copied it from somewhere, or someone contacted and them and said it and they believed it. For example, eurobasket.com says he has Nigerian citizenship, but that's because they listed that before he had Greek citizenship, and I don't think they understood he was an undocumented person with no country status, so he actually never had Nigerian citizenship. Then they leave that on there, and maybe NBA.com mistakenly copied it. Or maybe NBA.com did that because they wanted to say he had African nationality for that NBA Africa exhibition game. I remember they put him on Team Africa and explained that he was Nigerian citizen, even though he is not. So maybe that was just for marketing reasons. As for some Greeks saying he is Nigerian, I am not going to accuse anyone of racism, without knowing that it is a motivation, but unfortunately a lot of people, a lot of political groups, and a lot of media in Greece don't consider him "Greek" because he's black. And they have from the beginning said he should not be allowed to play on Greece's national team, and that he's a Nigerian and has "no Greek blood in him", and things like that. So there unfortunately is some xenophobic and racist aspects to that.

I don't really want to get into it at all here, and don't think it's wise to do so (it's not the place for it here), but yeah, unfortunately a lot of people in Greece won't acknowledge him as being Greek. But in terms of how the Wiki article should be, it should list nationality as Greek, that he is of Nigerian heritage, since his parents were from Nigeria, and that he was born stateless and lived that way until age 18, when he got not a Greek passport, but full Greek citizenship. And that he remained without Nigerian nationality because he never went there, or never declared as Nigerian at an embassy. Now, if someone wants to add to the article that he is eligible to get Nigerian citizenship, then that would be factually correct and acceptable. He is definitely eligible for it, but he has never filed for it. And it's not the same thing as being a natural born. Maybe some people by mistake thing he would have Nigerian citizenship by being a natural born, since Nigeria has those laws (Greece and USA have the same actually). The problem is that he's not a natural born Nigerian citizen, because he was born in Greece as a refugee that had parents that rescinded their Nigerian citizenship, and he was born without a state at all, and in a refugee status.
So for example, it's not the same thing to use someone like let's say Kosta Koufos or Nick Calathes as a comparison. Greeks born in America that automatically get natural born birth rights to Greek citizenship. Or it's not the same thing as say how some Nigerian descent guys like Ike Diogu are born in USA and raised there, but also get the natural born Nigerian citizenship birth rights. Because they were not born to refugee parents that rescinded their nationality, and they were not stateless by nationality until age 18, like Antetokounmpo was. It's a bit confusing probably for some people, but still though, people from Greece should be well aware of this.Bluesangrel (talk) 04:04, 10 April 2016 (UTC)
@Bluesangrel: I thank you for your reply and the great content above. You are obviously very knowledgeable about this topic. Hopefully I can direct editors to this in the future. I don't feel the need to respond in any particularly way to your arguments above. Your descriptions are brilliant and has even opened my eyes to some of these issues that I had no idea about. Just regarding Eurobasket.com, being personally affiliated with the site's Australia/New Zealand section, I can say that none of the content is concrete and shouldn't be taken as a primary source in any case. Everything on the site is generated from somewhere else, and nationalities for instance can be skewed and not always accurate. Your comment on why Nigerian is listed is very likely what happened. Anyway, thanks again. Hopefully we can both endeavour to help others understand this concept. Cheers. DaHuzyBru (talk) 04:43, 10 April 2016 (UTC)

I' d like someone to provide me any of (Greek) media that call him Greek, and come on for God's favor, it is not a racist motivation if someone is obviously from nigeria. I am Greek and I m proud of it, I hope either anyone else feels the same for his descent. --Meinlzel (talk) 15:00, 12 April 2016 (UTC)

Yo

Was coming to thank you for keeping Ben Simmons' article in check, and I noticed you're ranked exactly 1,000 on Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by number of edits. Make a wish. Just try not to make 9 more edits. Also, I concur with your pet peeve of using "would" for past tense. This was a fun one. Lizard (talk) 02:07, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

@Lizard the Wizard: While the number of edits mark is trivial and unimportant, not gonna lie, I was stoked to finally reach 1000th. Regarding Simmons, he's become a favourite of mine and I hope to continue updating the article in the future. That Troy Polamalu "would" example is the exact usage I dislike, I'm glad others feel the same way. Happy editing, Lizard! Cheers. DaHuzyBru (talk) 07:56, 15 April 2016 (UTC)

@Bigdaddy2737: I agree there needs to be a new picture, but we can't just upload any image we like. It needs to be a free image and we can't violate copyright. I know Flickr is often where images are sourced from, but the Flickr user has to have "chosen to offer their work under a Creative Commons license", meaning not all images are allowed to be used by the public i.e. this is the image that the current Curry picture is derived from. It has "Some rights reserved", meaning Wikipedia can use this image. I'm personally not into uploading images, but here's something for you to consider. DaHuzyBru (talk) 04:51, 20 April 2016 (UTC)

Cut and paste moves

I ran across Wikipedia:Jeff Allen (basketball, born 1987) and Wikipedia:Template:Israeli Basketball Super League, two pages created in the wrong namespace by Basketballfan12 that you did cut-and-paste moves to the right namespace. However, those should use the move function to retain the page history. Don't worry, I merged the history back. I'm presuming there was some technical reason blocking the move? In the future, you can make a request at WP:RM#TR if that was the case. Cheers.—Bagumba (talk) 06:13, 4 June 2016 (UTC)

Well I messed up when I originally tried to move it, hence the "Wikipedia:Template:Israeli". I accidentally forgot to toggle the "Template" field and instead added "Template:Israeli Basketball Super League" in the normal article field. Cheers for the clean up. Award difference?

What is the difference between NBA Development League Team Executive of the Year Award and NBA Development League Basketball Executive of the Year Award? Their descriptions are exactly the same. Jrcla2 (talk) 14:57, 9 June 2016 (UTC)

@Jrcla2: I honestly don't know. I originally could't figure out why this announcement had "inaugural" but I figured it was the same award and added it anyway. The recent June 3 press release lists the past winners of the NBA Development League Team Executive of the Year Award. The only different in the awards is "team" and "basketball". I assume team executive means CEOs and Presidents (corporate operations), while basketball executive means General Managers (actual squad operations). They are clearly two different awards, so I started a new article. Do you object to my new article creation? DaHuzyBru (talk) 15:10, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
If they're different awards then I have no problems with them both existing. My problem is it's extremely unclear as to what the differences are and should be properly distinguished in the lead. I think hatnotes on both articles should also reference the other one (the way that Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year references Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year, and vice versa). Jrcla2 (talk) 19:47, 9 June 2016 (UTC)
Hatnotes added. DaHuzyBru (talk) 04:34, 10 June 2016 (UTC)

George Hill

If it's not worth going back and forth with me, then why bother engaging in an edit war, by re-reverting it? Secondly, please show me the Wikipedia policy that states that the line of demarcation for writing about trades on Wikipedia is when one of the teams involved makes an announcement? Several reliable sources have CONFIRMED the trade through an agent directly involved with the trade. Not that any of this matters, since it will be "official" tomorrow and then you'll have no defense of your happy revert-ism at that point. For that reason, I'm not going to continue edit warring with you, because in less than 24 hours it will be a moot point, which I'm sure you are well aware of and so I'm somewhat confused as why this is such a concern for you to repeatedly delete. Happy Editing. -War wizard90 (talk) 05:57, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

@War wizard90: I just don't see the point in jumping the gun? If, like you said, it will be announced tomorrow, why not just wait until then? And for the record, I reverted once, that's not edit warring. I refrained from reverting again, as I felt it was not worth getting into an edit war with you. I've been around here for a long time and I am a veteran at dealing with NBA transactions. Per WP:SPORTSTRANS, we wait for official announcement before updating sports articles. ESPN is a reliable source, yes, but it's a media outlet reporting on a supposed trade. Who knows, the trade could fall apart and be denied by the NBA. That's why we wait for official announcement. DaHuzyBru (talk) 07:12, 23 June 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, I saw your edit summary, that you weren't going to go back and forth with me and just assumed that edit was to revert me. So you are correct, it was not edit warring I apologize for the accusation. And I was wrong on both counts, the trade won't be made official until Indy has the cap space to absorb Teague's salary. I'm still sure the trade will go through, however, I did jump the gun a bit. I have been editing Wikipedia off and on for a decade, so I'm not inexperienced. However, I have been on hiatus for a while and whenever I come back from that, I always tend to come back more combative than I should. You get jaded from the rest of the internet and forgot that actual decency is not only the norm, but expected on Wikipedia. Either way, you handled the situation correctly so thank you. -War wizard90 (talk) 01:03, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
I appreciate your understanding. The trade will pass for sure, but when it will be made official is anyone's guess. This year, the July Moratorium ends on July 7 [3], so I reckon the trade will likely be made official after that. But trades aren't necessarily as constricted as player signings, so it could happen during that standstill period. We shall see. DaHuzyBru (talk) 05:23, 29 June 2016 (UTC)

Think its a bit of a technicality because the NBA season hasn't started, but I would would assume a 3 year partially guaranteed contract isn't just for the summer league. Feel free to wait till the official rosters are set to make all the changes, but seems like a foregone conclusion he will be on the roster. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ajc7755 (talkcontribs) 19:49, 7 July 2016 (UTC)

@Ajc7755: The point is that the signing is not official. The Heat have not announce it yet. When his signing is listed here, we can update the article accordingly. DaHuzyBru (talk) 19:53, 7 July 2016 (UTC)
Also, a "partially-guaranteed" contract usually doesn't assure a roster spot. It means they get more money than the standard Summer League stipend or maybe an automatic training camp invite. It would need to be a guaranteed deal to assure a roster spot. Rikster2 (talk) 19:59, 7 July 2016 (UTC)

D-League FAs

Do all D-League players become free agents at end of each season? I would figure, but not sure. I saw you marked David Stockton as an FA. Was wondering if Joshua Smith (basketball) (and others) should be too.—Bagumba (talk) 06:08, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

Well the D-League is seasonal and most players don't return to their team for the following season. Players have to be reacquired/reclaimed by teams prior to every season. There's also no guarantee the team will bring them back. So I would say yes to Smith. Evidently, Stockton is set to join a Croatian team – that's usually how it goes, one D-League season then off to Europe. DaHuzyBru (talk) 06:14, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
OK, I found http://dleague.nba.com/faq/ It seems that returning players go back to the same team. What's not explicit is when a player needs to "opt in", and can a player want to return but then the D-League team "renounce" him. —Bagumba (talk) 08:52, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
I think a team owns the player rights to a player for two years or something like that. But again, that doesn't ensure that the player will return to the team for the following season. Usually D-League try-out periods are around September/October, so it's likely around that time that players would "opt in" or "out out". But like you said, it's not explicit and I'm just spitballing here. Every year (late October, early November), teams announce their training camp rosters. Only then do we know if players are "returning". It's always safer to just list free agent or blank the "team" field. DaHuzyBru (talk) 08:59, 14 July 2016 (UTC)
I won't object either way, but will probably not bother editing it myself. Thanks for the info!—Bagumba (talk) 09:05, 14 July 2016 (UTC)

Portals

Hi DaHazyBru. The reason I added those portal links was because those were players who had played in a McDonald's All-American Game, which is linked to the food company McDonalds. However, I think you're right that it's probably not all that necessary, so I'm not going to add anymore. Omni Flames (talk) 12:24, 25 July 2016 (UTC)

@Omni Flames: I see. I just thought it was odd, that's all. That's a very distant relationship and it has nothing to do with them specifically. Maybe if sports players have connections to restaurants or something, but being a McDonald's All-American definitely doesn't make a person related to food. Cheers for discussing this. All the best. Dates in citations

Hi,

Regarding this edit that you made – you do know that world doesn't end with the U.S.? As far as I know, there is no policy, which states that present-U.S. date should be used. Care to explain? – Sabbatino (talk) 06:47, 27 July 2016 (UTC)

@Sabbatino: First of all, your edit was made on the 26th anyway, UK time. I don't know where you reside, but I live in Perth, Australia and when I update NBA articles, I always update them as if I lived in California. Midday for me, is 9pm LA time. Only after 3pm my time do I start using the next day as by that time, it is the same day. It's just a personal preference. DaHuzyBru (talk) 07:02, 27 July 2016 (UTC)
No worries. Just wanted an explanation. As far as I know, New York City time is written in the NBA, NHL and other schedules related to U.S. sports. I live in northern Europe and it was already 00:27 of July 27th when I made my edit. So yeah, I get your point. However, I think that the date of the user who makes an edit should be included. Even the parameter is called accessdate. – Sabbatino (talk) 07:20, 27 July 2016 (UTC)
Sorry for butting in; this page is on my watchlist and the section title caught my attention. Wouldn't it be more appropriate to use Wikipedia's date, so that it corresponds with the date in the edit's time stamp? AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 07:22, 27 July 2016 (UTC)
I understand, Sabbatino, and fair enough. I didn't mean to undermine you. Regarding your comment, Athomeinkobe – that is also wise. In any case, Wikipedia's time stamp should be the over ruling factor in a dispute. However, disputes over accessdates are rare and trivial. DaHuzyBru (talk) 08:32, 27 July 2016 (UTC)

Nathan Jawai's weight

I got his figure from here: http://basketball.australiabasket.com/player/Nathan_Jawai/Australia/Cairns-Taipans/66190 120.16.215.135 (talk) 09:34, 16 August 2016 (UTC)

Australiabasket is not a reliable source and often goes outdated. You have referenced Australiabasket to me in the past – I am personally affiliated with the website. Take everything on there with a grain of salt. It's a site that takes info from other sources. Nothing on there is primary research or original content. DaHuzyBru (talk) 10:33, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
Just thought I'd place this here, when you hilariously referenced my Australiabasket news story last year as an official source [5]. If you check now, Jawai's weight on Australiabasket is 143 kg. Australiabasket or any of Eurobasket.com's affiliated sites bare no weight. You'd be wise to refrain from referencing Australiabasket in the future. DaHuzyBru (talk) 11:14, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
I can't believe it, eurobasket.com is the most informative international basketball website you can find on the Web. It's a bit like Wikipedia, being the most informative website ever but people still question the reliability of its content. 120.16.61.246 (talk) 12:51, 16 August 2016 (UTC)

Team season links

I know you do a lot of basketball work. When you are linking to a team in an article about a specific game, the link should be to that team's season article. An edit like this should not link to Cleveland Cavaliers. The only article with content about the game and content about the team that he played is at 2016–17 Cleveland Cavaliers season. It should be piped Cleveland Cavaliers. Given the number of basketball edits that you make it would be a great service to our readers if you piped the links to locations that have content about that game and the members of the team who the subject opposed.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 19:17, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

  • Also, that recap that you linked does not mention the name Baker. You should actually link to a box score or a story that mentions his debut.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 19:19, 26 October 2016 (UTC)
There's no guideline or "rule" that says we have to pipe. You, Tony, are in the minority with that – it's not a common theme, and I don't feel the need to start. Regarding the ESPN ref, I understand your concern, but multiple links are available atop the page for readers to navigate (box score, play-by-play) – I just like to be able to use a proper ref title instead of "New York Knicks 88 117 Cleveland Cavaliers". DaHuzyBru (talk) 05:09, 27 October 2016 (UTC)
You are saying that there is support for a preference of including links that have no content regarding the subject.--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 13:26, 27 October 2016 (UTC)

Hugh Greenwood

If you have any interest, a stub article for Hugh Greenwood has been created. Greenwood was a prominent basketball player before deciding to play Australian Rules football. Someone had prodded the article because it didn't have sources. I de-prodded and added one, but the article needs plenty of work. Given your interests, I thought he might appeal to you. Plenty of good source material available on him. Rikster2 (talk) 12:29, 29 October 2016 (UTC)

@Rikster2: Yeah, I had a feeling it would prop up at some point. I have some sources saved up from when he signed in Perth last year, but I never committed to creating an article for him. I'll have a go at it soon. Cheers. DaHuzyBru (talk) 12:32, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, I had been keeping an eye out for the article for awhile. It's a shame he didn't choose basketball, it seems like he has more potential there. Enjoyed his game at New Mexico. Rikster2 (talk) 12:41, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
He joined the Perth Wildcats for the 2015–16 season, but after a month of preseason training, he upped and left to pursue AFL. Thing is, the Wildcats went on to win the 'ship in 2016 ;-) DaHuzyBru (talk) 12:44, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
If you have time to add anything to Greenwood, it might be a good idea. It has been PRODded and then turned into a redirect. I will try to add more tonight, but if you have any time to do so (and add sources), it could help. The problem is that it's written as an AFL article and he doesn't currently meet the AFL notability standards. There are more than enough sources for his basketball career to meet GNG, though. Rikster2 (talk) 13:12, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
Crap, I forgot. I will make sure to get to it within a few hours. DaHuzyBru (talk) 13:25, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! Apparently, he has a pretty famous grandfather as well (Peter Marquis). Rikster2 (talk) 13:33, 1 November 2016 (UTC)

NBA.com

The link from this edit leads the reader nowhere. What are you trying to link to?--TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 17:11, 29 October 2016 (UTC)

Does this link not work for you? It works for me. It has game stats, play-by-play and box score. Perhaps it's an Australian thing? NBA Gameline used to be the go-to place for me on NBA.com, but that now redirects to NBA TV. DaHuzyBru (talk) 17:17, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
TonyTheTiger, regarding this – I was not aware that would for not work for some people. I do not have league pass. I presume it is an Australian thing, whereby everything NBA in Australia is through NBA TV. Australia actually has NBA.com redirect to SportingNews.com, which is whack. I'm sorry I've caused you such turmoil with my early-season updates. I'm still trying to work out the kinks with there no longer being NBA game reports in this format (at least, here in Australia they are no longer available like that). Even ESPN in Australia has "espn.com.au" as the default domain. I actually change all urls to just "espn.com" when I add them to Wikipedia out of courtesy, with the NBA being in the United States and all. Perhaps I should just use ESPN box scores links for player updates when they are not mentioned in the ESPN recap sections. I do not want to be on bad terms with you. Everything I do is in good faith. Hugh Greenwood

Thanks for expanding Hugh Greenwood's page, I was going to go back and add tags after the redirect was removed as it was debatable he passed WP:NCOLLATH with the way the page was and it needed significant work adding info about his basketball career should he have never played an AFL game, which you've added. Thanks heaps! Flickerd (talk) 02:38, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

@Flickerd: No worries! I had a number of references saved up from when he retired from basketball in August 2015. I refrained from making the article back then, but I had a feeling it would pop up at some point. He had a fairly short but notable basketball career. We'll have to see how successful his AFL career turns out. DaHuzyBru (talk) 04:21, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

Eric Bledsoe; Thanks

Thanks for your edit to Eric Bledsoe. The additions by the IP user to this and another article seemed to me to be more like routine occurrences and not to be notable. I have thought in retrospect that perhaps they were close calls. I struck the first warning message on the IP user's talk page almost immediately after I left it and now have struck the second. I have added comments about the basis of my interpretation. I now added that references could push a matter of interpretation of these policies toward inclusion of the edits. I had thought it would be nice to call on another experienced user familiar with editing in this area for another opinion. I hope that I can call on you in the future if such questions arise, especially in basketball if not in other sports. Based on past experience, I think I won't be troubling you too much on such matters if you are agreeable to being consulted occasionally. I think the usual case is that an edit is clearly permissible or it is not (barring some sort of misinterpretation). Thanks. Donner60 (talk) 07:36, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

@Donner60: I am very familiar with this editor. The majority of the time they edit Phoenix Suns related articles, and they often add fluff pieces and unnecessary content. I am 99% sure they also go by this and this. I often have to clean up after them. It's a pain, but I've got it covered. Thanks for coming to me about this. Cheers. Great. Thanks. Donner60 (talk) 02:41, 4 November 2016 (UTC)

Player's nationality in the infobox

I saw that you reverted my edit here. However, it's not determined what "nationality" field means – citizenship/-s or ethnicity. Was there ever any discussion on this? If it's ethnicity then it should also be removed from here or here as they aren't Americans (along with many other articles). – Sabbatino (talk) 08:07, 10 November 2016 (UTC)

@Sabbatino: Irving was born in Australia to American parents and moved to the US as a two-year-old. He is not a citizen of Australia, nor has he represented the Australian national team. Listing dual nationalities usually equates to dual citizenship, having multiple passports or being natualized – not merely ethnicity or background. It should be done case-by-case i.e. David Stockton has a Croatian passport; that doesn't necessarily make him American/Croatian. Whereas with someone like Andray Blatche, he became a natualized citizen of the Philippines and has played for their national team. You also can't compare Ilgauskas and Olajuwon with Irving – Irving lived in Australia for the first two years of his life, whereas Olajuwon moved to the US as a teenager and lived there ever since, and this claims Ilgauskas became a US citizen in 2014. DaHuzyBru (talk) 09:32, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
I do understand what you mean, but shouldn't the infobox list player's original nationality (or ethnicity as you say) and prose could explain that someone became a naturalized citizen of some other country? I made changes to Ilgauskas' article and you might revert it, but I think a discussion is needed to determine this matter. Regarding Ilgauskas' situation, he lost the Lithuanian citizenship or shall I say, he himself renounced it after various bureaucratic misunderstandings, which prevented him from keeping both passports despite various other people (for example, Darius Kasparaitis or Dainius Zubrus) were let to keep both. – Sabbatino (talk) 09:42, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
Why though are you putting so much weight on ethnicity? Giannis Antetokounmpo has Nigerian ethnicity, that doesn't make him Nigerian, per lengthy debates in the past at Talk:Giannis Antetokounmpo. "Citizenship doesn't mean that he has become part of other ethnicity" – you added Australian to Irving, but he has no ethnic ties to Australia. There is no way Irving would ever identify himself as an American-Australian. With Ilgauskas renouncing being Lithuanian, and by him gaining US citizenship, would he not identify himself as American? I don't have a personal connection to Ilgauskas or the other Lithuanian players you tweaked, so I'm not going to bother reverting, but I do have a personal preference to keep Australian out of the infobox and lead of Irving's article. DaHuzyBru (talk) 10:21, 10 November 2016 (UTC)
I'm not putting "much weight" on ethnicity. I didn't even said anything regarding the "ethnicity" thing in my last reply. Ilgauskas considers himself Lithuanian, but he lost (or renounced) his passport due to Lithuanian laws having double standards for certain situations. And gaining US passport doesn't make him American, because he represented Lithuania in his youth. As for Irving's article, I don't have any problems with how it looks as I just wanted some clarification regarding this matter. – Sabbatino (talk) 10:43, 10 November 2016 (UTC)

@Sabbatino: Just to let you know – another user has re-added Australian to Irving's infobox. I'm going to leave it 1. because I can't bothered with it anymore, and 2. because a google search of "kyrie irving dual citizen" brings up sources that imply he is dual American/Australian. Dbuckner2012

Well, he's no longer putting false edit summaries. Now he's just not putting summaries at all. And his edits are still littered with editorializing, original research, and informal language. This is just horrible. Lizard (talk) 01:09, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

@Lizard the Wizard: You can always report the user to WP:AIV, but as of right now, they have not crossed into my "territory" (other than Zach Randolph, of which they reverted their own addition) so I'm personally not going to take it any further. The reason for their original block was because of misleading edit summaries, and for the most part, they have stopped that. I'm not a football editor, so the only gripe I have with this is that it is somewhat poorly worded. Poorly-worded additions and no edit summaries ≠ block. I'd only take it further if they started editing NBA players, then I'd be able to gauge how bad their edits are. DaHuzyBru (talk) 04:26, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
Ah yes, I forgot you're from across the lake. I think I speak for all LSU fans when I say Australia's greatest sports contribution to the university was Brad Wing, so thanks for that. And I'm probably not gonna take action on the guy, I really just wanted to gripe to someone about him for griping's sake. Lizard (talk) 04:35, 5 December 2016 (UTC)
I completely understand. "Pest" editors are the worst because they never heed to warnings or advice, and they often never communicate. I can honestly say, I had never heard of Brad Wing haha, but it's great to see Australians doing well in American football. DaHuzyBru (talk) 04:40, 5 December 2016 (UTC)

LeBron James - Cavs 2006 EC Championship

Hello. I see that you recently undid a change I made with regards to the Cavaliers winning their first Eastern Conference title in the 2006 section of the LeBron James article. Your edit summary sounded a little personal, so I think it's important for me to explain why I removed that bit. When I reviewed the article yesterday (and several months back, as I've tried to make the change before), I couldn't find a reference for that point. It looks like a reference has now been added, so we should be good to go. If a reference was there previously and I missed it, then my apologies.--Ktmartell (talk) 15:13, 11 December 2016 (UTC)

@Ktmartell: I'm a little confused, Ktmartell. While I appreciate the good gesture of this message, this is not the first time we have come across one another on the LeBron James article, and it's not the first time I have reverted you. You have somewhat unusually removed that Eastern Conference championship note multiple times [8] [9] [10] [11], and nearly every time is was under a different guise. Your recent edit summary for why you removed it was also unusual, as if you were removing it in good faith for the first time – but that is clearly not the case. I was under the impression you had some sort of specific agenda against it, which I found to be unreasonable. That is why my recent edit summaries have been "personal" – your constant removal of valid and accurate info has befuddled me. I am aware of your close connection to the LeBron James article, but that doesn't give you the go-ahead to remove that sentence every single time you come back to edit the article. Per my edit summary from August, it's time for you to compromise. Can we agree to leave that be? No more going back and forth over it? This low-key edit war between us is silly and in my opinion, unreasonable on your end. DaHuzyBru (talk) 16:23, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
@DaHuzyBru: Thanks for the explanation. I won't remove it going forward.
In the future, I'll make sure to pay more attention to reverted changes and be more proactive about reaching out to those who may disagree with me. I must admit that I've recently gotten a little too gung-ho about making edits. I would also kindly suggest that if you feel I am being unreasonable, just ping me and we can work through it. I genuinely was not trying to be a pest; I will sometimes make an edit and then go away for a few months, which inevitably results in me forgetting certain things. I was also more concerned with quality of citation than relevance of information in this case (perhaps unfairly so, but I promise my intentions were pure).
Best wishes and good vibes to you from here on out. I think we can close the book on this one!--Ktmartell (talk) 17:36, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
@Ktmartell: Again, I appreciate your good gesture and your understanding. I in no way want to be on bad terms with you. Your work on the LeBron James article has been commendable! We can close this book for sure. Cheers. DaHuzyBru (talk) 03:21, 12 December 2016 (UTC)

What are your thoughts on this?
