Some California-related stuff going on at Wikipedia.

Deep Springs Valley[edit]

Hello! I noticed that you added information about CalTrans to the Deep Springs Valley article. Deep Springs College bought that station some 10 years ago (it is now called Henderson Station by the college). I studied there 2002-4, and at that time, Caltrans had reduced their presence to a collection of road signs and occasional equipment that they kept near the station. Unless they've recently expanded this collection, I feel that 'operates' and 'facility' are strong words. Where did you get your information from? Unless I'm mistaken, I'll correct your paragraph in a few days. Jugander 16:40, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Images listed for deletion[edit]

The following images that you uploaded or altered have been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in their not being deleted. Thank you.

Thanks for adding the stub categories to Two Girls and a Guy while I was busy rifling through the list of all possible stubs... User:David Jordan 11/19/2006.

No problem! I'm surprised that it didn't already exist, considering the cast list. It's a good film. Perhaps you can look at the film infobox template as something else to add to raise the standard of the article, along with all of the great information that you have already contributed? Do not repost deleted material[edit]

You have recently re-created the article Image:CRISCO systems.jpg, which was deleted in accordance with Wikipedia's deletion policies. Please do not re-create the article. If you disagree with the article's deletion, you may ask for a deletion review. —Psychonaut 14:19, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

GIF images[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you have uploaded a number of images in the GIF image format. As I try to convert all of these to the smaller, lossless PNG format, would you like me to change the images on your userpage as well? If you'd like to give me a hand with converting all of them, it would be appreciated, as it will take me quite a while on my own, if it gets done at all. ---Remember the dot 05:35, 18 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image:Mood fart.gif is a great example of an image which has been significantly distorted by being in the GIF format. The GIF format is limited to a palette of 256 colors, making it really really bad for photographs. Please save your images in the PNG format instead because it is 100% lossless - it will not distort images in the slightest.---Remember the dot 04:12, 19 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Untagged image[edit]

An image you uploaded, Image:OLD MV2.JPG, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 08:55, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Snow Creek Village[edit]

Hi Brien. Snow Creek Village, California is south of Interstate 10 near Cabazon, I think. It's between Beaumont and Whitewater somewhere. It consists of about 40 homes: a small place. It was described in the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection Riverside Ranger Unit Fire Management Plan 2005. The plan talks about areas with vegetation fire problems — so someplace of similar size out by Blythe might not be listed. User:David Jordan 11/27/2006.

Hi David. I still can't find much information on Snow Creek Village, you are right--it must be quite small. I have, however, stumbled into more unincorporated communities in Riverside County from the County's Building & Safety page. Some of them, like Glen Valley and Glen Ivy, are also found in my Thomas Guide. If you're still interested in helping track down small inland empire communities, there are a lot of good leads here. Orphaned fair use image (Image:Guinevere_dvd.png)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Guinevere_dvd.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BigDT 01:46, 7 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, David Jordan. An automated process has found and removed an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that was in your userspace. The image (Image:Caltrans toll receipt.png) was found at the following location: User:David Jordan. This image or media was attempted to be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media was replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 07:59, 15 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello David Jordan, an automated process has found an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, such as fair use. The image (Image:TRACON 1 5 manual cover.png) was found at the following location: User:David Jordan. This image or media will be removed per statement number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. The image that was replaced will not be automatically deleted, but it could be deleted at a later date. Articles using the same image should not be affected by my edits. I ask you to please not re-add the image to your userpage and could consider finding a replacement image licensed under either the Creative Commons or GFDL license or released to the public domain. Thanks for your attention and cooperation. User:Gnome (Bot)-talk 04:25, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use disputed for Image:Image:Dreamlife of Angels film VHS.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Image:Dreamlife of Angels film VHS.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 10:53, 30 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Lewis_and_clark_and_george_VHS.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Lewis_and_clark_and_george_VHS.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:OLD MV2.JPG[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:OLD MV2.JPG. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 15:50, 8 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 937 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Keep up the good work![edit]

Hi David,

I see you've been having a lot of images removed for copyright reasons. I know there's always a bit of a twinge of "Hey, now really?" when you get one of those templates on your talk page: it happens to me a lot because of images I work on for the Graphic Lab if I worked on an image which later turns out to have copyright issues, I get another template on my talk page! I see a lot of photos by you, and I firmly believe that if you're actually out there collecting free content, you're one of the good guys and deserve a pat on the back, so here it is!

Anyway, I've re-drawn your base station image as an svg, as per a Graphic Lab request. Check it out: File:Base_station_2_channel_block_diagram.svg --Slashme (talk) 19:29, 27 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Tracon for DOS Cassette[edit]

I noticed that you had previously uploaded a photo of the cassette tape that was included with the old Tracon for DOS. Something that I've wished for AGES was an MP3 recording of that cassette (I lost my tape during Hurricane Andrew in 1992 in Miami, Florida).

I don't suppose that you might have an MP3 recording of the cassette? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.55.234.30 (talk) 12:28, 8 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The article Falsing has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced for 11 years, tagged as such for 8 years - if no sources can be supplied for this content it should not be in the encyclopedia.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. PamD 21:53, 8 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Better source request for File:D-q university entrance.jpg[edit]

Thanks for your upload to Wikipedia:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain, search engine, pinboard, aggregator, or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 14:16, 28 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Sargent, California has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This article is sourced mostly to maps; the level of detail is beyond what one could get from a map or atlas, suggesting this piece is full of OR. I could not find any information about Sargent or Sargent's in newspaper or book searches. Satellite images show a couple of buildings alongside the tracks, suggesting this was just a railway point and not a "town". If the article is kept it should be trimmed down tot he Sargent Oil Field and renamed, since that is the only part of the article with proper sourcing. For the rest, without RS discussing the place it fails WP:GEOLAND and WP:GNG.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Notice

The article Rucker, California has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

By its own admission, this article is describing a rail siding, not an "unincorporated community". Sourced mostly to maps; the rest is OR. Reference 5 might be reliable but appears from citation to just support existence, not provide secondary coverage. There is indeed a Rucker Avenue and Rucker School but these don't establish there was a community; likely just the name of an early landowner. No information found about this location; fails WP:V that it was a "community". Also fails WP:GEOLAND and WP:GNG.

Notice

The article Mount Signal, California has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Non-notable location. While there is plenty about Mount Signal, the mountain, there is next to nothing about any "community" of Mount Signal, despite what the OR in this article would claim. The two cited sources are insufficient for notability and the rest is speculation or synthesis. Fails WP:GEOLAND and WP:GNG.
