I came here to row! Row, row, row your boat... Three more expansions, and all in time for International Women's Day too. Love finding quite interesting things about Olympians, such as the charity work done by Juliet Thompson in this instance. Take care. Lugnuts Fire Walk with Me 19:30, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Deb, is that why it was deleted. Because of a Link to my mothers obituary??? One mistaken Reference link at the bottom of all I had written by myself.???

Hi Deb,

How to I go about Contesting the speedy deletion? Are we doing that right now.? NOTE: Administrators should take care not to speedily delete pages or media except in the most obvious cases. If a page has survived its most recent deletion discussion, it should not be speedily deleted except for newly discovered copyright violations and pages that meet specific uncontroversial criteria; these criteria are noted below. Contributors sometimes create pages over several edits, so administrators should avoid deleting a page that appears incomplete too soon after its creation. Thank you, Cmehra (talk) 07:34, 31 March 2022 (UTC)Cyrus[reply]

I think yes![edit]

Hi Deb, how are you?

Me I'm fine.

About your question, I think he really exists, under his alias that I put in Wikidata. He directed lot of films about Martial Arts, in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Thanks a lot for your visit.

Rei Momo (talk) 13:34, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rei Momo - thanks, but you can't create articles without reliable sources. I can't find any record of him or his films. You need to give us sources where you found this information - not IMDb or Amazon - otherwise the articles will all be deleted. Deb (talk) 13:36, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Aren't their films a source? I thought it was... Rei Momo (talk) 13:39, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There's also a short biografy, I don't think it's a fake. Rei Momo (talk) 13:41, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I can't find any reliable source for the existence of any of these films. Maybe they have alternative titles, but I can't find any of them. I did find books that mention Kim Lung, but they don't mention any of these films either, they mention completely different titles. A biography on Amazon wouldn't be acceptable in the absence of any more reliable source. Deb (talk) 13:45, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, but he worked woth other alias, as Long Jian, Long Quan and Hong Chian Long, as I put on Wikidata. His films The Bridge at Lo-Yang, The Bridge at Lo-Yang, Blood of the Leopard, and Queen of Fist are known also in Europe, not only in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Rei Momo (talk) 14:04, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I can't find any references to these. Please come up with a reliable source. Also, at the moment the articles for the individual films don't make any claim of notability. Even the articles on the actors don't list these films. For example, the list of films with Jimmy Wang Yu doesn't mention Queen of Fist. Sorry, I know how hard you are trying, but those articles can't stay unless you can find something better. Deb (talk) 14:08, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I found this:

Rei Momo (talk) 14:10, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

That's not reliable. It's just copied from elsewhere. See Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources. Deb (talk) 14:13, 14 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

DarkKnight9337 Your draft is still present at Draft:Lance Hayes and the only real difference between this and the published version is that the latter was in much more promotional language. So I recommend you recommence work on the draft. Deb (talk) 08:36, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The recipe says to contact you before making. You have deleted the article based on two criteria. Which part of the article is a copyright infringement? And which part is advertising? I din't notice. If you do not have time, introduce another user And please Return (here User:نارنجستان/sandbox) the text of the article to correct it N (talk) 18:23, 22 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You imposed mdy date format in your hopeless revert; plus a few other things that had been fixed. You need to put it back to dmy, as for all UK-related articles. Tony (talk) 04:35, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't do the "damage", as you well know. You've been told many times to leave the date links alone. You've even been blocked for it, yet you persist in your script-assisted edits. Every time you remove legitimate links, I'll be reverting you. Deb (talk) 08:34, 5 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You don't seem to be literate. Read my post above. You illegally imposed mdy on a Britain-related article. GOT IT? Nothing to do with links. You're a substandard, reckless editor who deserves to be blocked. Tony (talk) 01:21, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Deb,

Because of an AFC tag that was part of a discussion in User talk:Deb/Archive 25#19:42, 20 February 2021 Deb talk contribs deleted page Arielle Kayabaga, this archived talk page shows up as eligible for a CSD G13 deletion as you can see in the page's categories. At least I think it is this particular discussion that is causing the page to be seen as eligible for G13 deletion.

I don't want to edit another editor's archived talk page so I'm just alerting you so that perhaps you can remove the tag or place <nowiki> code around it so it's not a "live" AFC tag and some eager editor doesn't mistakenly tag the page for deletion. It is clearly not an article draft, but, you know, these things can happen. Hope this is not too confusing! Liz Read! Talk! 19:32, 5 April 2022 (UTC) Liz - Thanks for the warning, I think I have dealt with that now. Deb (talk) 07:13, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Month articles[edit]

  • Hi, Deb, good to hear from you. I appreciate all the work you've done over nearly 15 years in improving the project, and ideas that you instituted (such as placing the births and deaths in the dates where they happen rather than putting them at the end). You're correct, there's been no discussion and there's no consensus about removing the blue links from dates, although we ought to have one. I had done it on pages that I was maintaining for older months (such as March 1900) and if January and February of a year didn't have blue links. I did it had, mostly to head off another type of mass action that we had a year ago from User:JamesLucas. However, in cases where January and February have been returned to blue links (true of most of the pages in the 1960s) I don't reverse the reversal. The important thing, after all, is that citations are found for what can be cited, and that unattributable or questionable items get removed. I'll stop. Generally, a few days after a month ends, I go through the pages to look for what's been added or deleted. I just finished the March pages and I'll patrol the April pages about a week after May begins. Please feel free to let me know any instance where you disagree with an edit I've done. I respect your opinions and, as I say, I appreciate that you've been working on this project from the very beginning. Mandsford 12:37, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The administrator policy has been updated with new activity requirements following a successful Request for Comment.

Beginning January 1, 2023, administrators who meet one or both of the following criteria may be desysopped for inactivity if they have:

  1. Made neither edits nor administrative actions for at least a 12-month period OR
  2. Made fewer than 100 edits over a 60-month period

Administrators at risk for being desysopped under these criteria will continue to be notified ahead of time. Thank you for your continued work.

Manush Nandan[edit]

The deletion log of Manush Nandan showed up on my watchlist, and I was curious to know why chose to delete it yourself, rather than tag it for PROD or speedy, and let another admin take a call on it. The article had edits from 2015 and multiple editors were working on it. Wanted to know if you saw this as a "most obvious case" for deletion. Jay (talk) 14:35, 17 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It being so old was one of several things that concerned me. No one seems to have made an effort to add decent references, and the creator's history shows repeated creation of non-notable biographies. Deb (talk) 14:41, 17 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So wouldn't that have been an ideal case for PROD? My point being CSD (deletion, not nomination) is for a "most obvious case", did you see this as one? Jay (talk) 11:06, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I did, but I carried out the checks I described above before I deleted it. Deb (talk) 12:53, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

1958 Jordan crisis[edit]

Hello! The article 1958 Jordan crisis is in need of some cleanup and so I picked you (randomly) from admin lists to come take a peek. I removed the speedy (for copyvio) because it looked like it did not qualify under that criteria. However, I did send it to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/1958 Jordan crisis for feedback. Another editor put the speedy on again for copyvio and I was convinced it no longer met that criteria. However, upon further review (and additional data) it seems that it may indeed need a speedy under copyvio. Could you please review and take whatever action is necessary (i.e. clean up my mistakes)? I've messed this up a couple times and thought it best to get some help.--Paul McDonald (talk) 00:50, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • HumanxAnthro That's great but I'm not sure exactly what you mean when you refer to year-end lists and what it is you are looking for when you say you can't find them. If it's the books, then I can't help much as we're no longer allowed to link directly to Google Books. You'd need to go there and search. Deb (talk) 06:24, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • It's the BPI year book published in 1982, as well as "Chart File 1982", that includes 1981 year-ends. Looking for the yearbook on searches finds books and academics journal referencing it for specific information, but not the book itself [8]. A few sits, such as Google Books, but there's no print book they make available, in addition to no pdfs being anywhere. If you still have the books in possession, you could submit screenshots of them (and all of your BPI books) to archive.org. 👨x🐱 (Nina CortexxCoco Bandicoot) 13:21, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
      • I never had any of these books in my possession. If the reference didn't come from Google Books, it was probably copied from the relevant article for each entry. Deb (talk) 13:34, 14 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted Dora Fugh Lee[edit]

Since you deleted the Dora Fugh Lee article, how do I return to my draft to see where you say we are violating copyrights of the Chinese American Museum? We are the ones primarily editing this page. Did we borrow too much text from our own web page? Is this just deleted permanently or can we continue to improve this article in order to get this notable Chinese American's page visible?

Bulk Removal of Information from Wikipedia[edit]

Is the removal of bulk information from Wikipedia correct by this user: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Mewnst  ? If that information is well cited. 2405:204:33AA:17A1:316B:7A89:B91C:B25D (talk) 05:00, 15 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, but you'll have to be more specific if there's something that's bothering you. In principle, users are entitled to remove promotional wording, and it depends a bit where the citation comes from. For example, if s/he removed a sentence saying "He's really clever" and the source was the subject's website, it would be entirely appropriate to remove it. Would you mind telling me what about that page struck you as unambiguously promotional per G11? Because I declined the CSD tag as it did not read as unambiguous promotion to me. When I declined the speedy tag I noted in my edit summary that it should go through AFD. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 16:13, 26 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't see that you had declined the tag before I carried out the deletion - I was still looking at it. Apart from an excessive dependence on primary sources, it still reads to me like a CV. Notwithstanding, I'm happy for you to restore it if you feel it meets the criteria. It would really have helped if the article creator hadn't kept moving it around between sandbox, draft space and article space. There's a conflict of interest that hasn't been properly declared, but I can tag the article with that information. Deb (talk) 16:32, 26 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I've gone ahead and restored it and sent it to AFD. I just really think this one needs a discussion. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 16:55, 26 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Closing at ANI[edit]

Hi Deb,

You've closed several sections at ANI in the past day or two and put the atop template before the section header ([9] [10] [11]). Per the documentation at Template:Archive_top, the template should go below the header, or else it will disrupt archiving bots. I think that I and TheDragonFire300 have fixed all the recent instances.

All the best, JBL (talk) 19:48, 4 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

There's been a major increase in vandalism & other bad edits to 2022 & its talk page, including from an IP-hopper who very frequently adds nonsense about 2020 being a person & uses misleading edit summaries. Please semi-protect the article & block the persistent vandal's latest IP, which is only used for vandalism. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 15:07, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. Sorry I didn't spot that. Deb (talk) 16:20, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If you would care to take a look at recent edits on this article, then the comments at User talk:Alicegreaves, it appears that the article's subject matter has requested that her date of birth is not shown in the article. The DOB is in the 'public domain', so it seems a somewhat strange request. However, I am not certain of Wiki's stance, and can not find editing guidelines for such an eventuality. I would be grateful for guidance and, if such a request could/should be accommodated, whether the subject matter needs to make a 'formal request'. Thanks,

Derek R Bullamore (talk) 19:10, 10 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Derek R Bullamore - I don't believe that we allow the subjects of articles to interfere with the content of those articles, so yes, a formal approach would be required. What is quite clear is that User:Alicegreaves has an undeclared conflict of interest, and I'll send her an appropriate warning. Deb (talk) 06:54, 11 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your protection decision re PanaBIOS[edit]

Dear Deb - I note that you have taken a cue from MrOllie and protected the PanaBIOS article on the basis that an experienced editor should first review it. When is this review going to happen? Regards Quodprod (talk) 03:22, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Quodprod This suggests that you have tried to recreate the article, against my previous advice. Drafts have to wait in line for review, regardless of how important their creators may consider them to be. Deb (talk) 03:27, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure I understand your response. I just saw that you have moved the article to the draft page and protected it to prevent re-creation. I am asking when the review is due. I obviously cannot recreate an article that has been blocked from being recreated. As I have consistently explained, I am highly motivated to see this matter resolved because I believe that these strange deletions and attempts to block the publication of the article stems from prejudice. There is a serious geographical imbalance in the coverage of the referent subject matter which seems deliberately maintained by arbitrary editorial standards. Quodprod (talk) 03:37, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I looked at your draft myself and judged it not ready for article space. I have no idea why you would think that this has anything to do with geographical or other prejudice. When you created the draft, you could not have failed to be aware that there is no "fast track" for reviews. Please don't expect to be treated more favourably than any other new editor. Deb (talk) 03:45, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Deb, far from asking for favouritism, I am asking that we all abide by the communitarian values that undergird this collaborative enterprise. We should all strive to be both candid and motivated solely by the desire to create objective knowledge. What are the improvements that are required to be made to the article to make it fit for the articlespace? We should be able to have that discussion on open and factual grounds with no undertones. Surely, we strive for the highest standards of editorial transparency in this community, do we not? So far, I have seen a concerted and coordinated effort to block an article by older editors but no grounds as to why this determination to block is warranted. I am steadily priming my antenna for the latent impulses driving editorial decision-making here. That's all. Thanks and regards. Quodprod (talk) 03:51, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
When I go to this page, for instance, I see a bevy of projects of far less objective notability representing global north interests: Vaccination requirements for international travel#CommonPass
Why have Wikipedia editors not been as motivated to screen them with the same fervour that we are seeing here? Do you sincerely not see a clear geographical bias at play? What degree of discrimination would be sufficient for what is *really* happening here to be obvious to you? Quodprod (talk) 03:57, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Quodprod The mistake you've made is in thinking that the article you've written is superior to others on the subject when looked at with an objective eye (i.e. by someone other than yourself). Whilst it may be that other articles have had sections added to them that are not well written and no one has noticed yet, it doesn't follow that your own article is well written. I've already told you that, from my point of view, it's not ready for the encyclopedia, and the reason you can't see what is wrong with it is that you have not submitted it for review but have repeatedly moved it into article space and removed tags, against advice. Consequently you haven't received the feedback you seek. If you really want a precipitate review, then by all means submit it for review now, without attempting to understand why it reads as promotional. I'll be glad to give it priority, but it will fail the review. Deb (talk) 07:31, 12 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Brett H. Coulter Draft[edit]

Hi Deb!

My name is Ethan, and I am a graduate student at St. Johns university in Queens. I recently attempted creating an article for one of the directors of the firm I am currently an intern at because I have to write a report on a mentor from my job. I choose Mr. Coulter and asked him to participate in an interview because he is very experienced and does the same investing as I. I am sorry for phrasing the article in a biased manner I do look up to Brett after my interview and I understand that some information may have suggested I could be him. I am not. But a lot of my classmates interviewed men already on wikipedia such as Howard Marks (investor) and I would like to create a page for Brett for educational and reference purposes I am not being compensated even for my internship lol. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SJUstudenteditor (talkcontribs) 08:06, 16 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Deb, You recently deleted a page that I created about the social media influencer Nikko Ortiz. I read the reason you gave for deletion, the deletion policy you link to at the top of your talk page, and of course, Wikipedia guidelines--but I don't see why my article has been flagged as a conflict of interest.Although I happen to be a follower of the Tiktoker that the article is about, I took care to keep my tone neutral and I believe it's in accordance with Wikipedia's policy on the subject. Statements in the article were cited and noncontroversial. Will you please advise why the "conflict of interest" and "neutral point of view" policies are being applied to my article here? Thank you. ABBYY recreation[edit]

I was looking through NPP and saw ABBYY as freshly unreviewed from 2019; the deletion log says that you deleted it last in 2018 as an A11. I'm just wondering whether it's substantially similar to that version, as it still seems A11-ish. Iseult Δx parlez moi 05:26, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Iseult Thanks for this. It seems like there was a redirect, but the moment page protection expired, someone recreated it. I'll check the diffs. Deb (talk) 06:40, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't find it reasonable to salt ABBYY when it has incoming links and the discussion of the subject still exists at ABBYY FineReader#ABBYY. I suggest you restore the redirect (and then protect it if necessary). Nardog (talk) 06:51, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your suggestion. Deb (talk) 06:54, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So... are you going to? Nardog (talk) 07:52, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see any need, but I'll bear it in mind if there appears to be a problem. Deb (talk) 07:54, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That's a bizarre thing to say. I'm saying there already is a problem affecting readers of articles with (currently red) links to ABBYY. Nardog (talk) 08:09, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Besides, the outcome of the deletion discussion was redirect, not delete, so you're unilaterally overriding a community decision. Nardog (talk) 09:58, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't pester me. I'm not overriding anything, I'm trying to resolve a problem caused by the person who changed the redirect into an article. Red links are a fact of life. When I have time, I'll look back and try to find the correct wording for the redirect. Deb (talk) 12:09, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Deb,

I have spend quite a bit of time to work on the draft article of Nicolas Pascarel and its not clear to me why you put a tag for its speedy deletion. Please clarify specifically the problematic areas of the article and remove the tag for it to be deleted.

Draft moved back to mainspace by creator[edit]

Hi Deb. The editor Jamminlive66 has moved the article they created, Liveline with Mason, back to the mainspace - undoing your earlier move to the draft space. I find it a bit suspicious that they deny a conflict of interest in the edit summary while admitting that they are "close to the source". Several editors have expressed COI concerns over the years and this person has done little to address them. --Drm310 🍁 (talk) 21:10, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Need help understanding why my article was moved back to the sandbox[edit]

My article on Tom Roberts (pianist) was tagged for speedy deletion for G11--"unambiguous advertising" and you moved it back to the sandbox around an hour after it received that tag.

I spent the past couple of days changing the tone of the article so that sounded more encyclopedic and adding many resources to support all of the information in the article. The resources span over a period of about thirty years and are from reputable publications (such as newspapers and discographies). I'm unclear as to why the article was marked for removal at all, and why you supported its removal by moving forward with the deletion. Can you please help me understand why the article came across as a G11 "advertising" violation?

Thank you for your help. I plan to write another article on a Pittsburgh artist/musician and before I do so I want to figure out what I'm doing wrong that's causing my article to be flagged. Bskaat (talk) 16:02, 17 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bskaat I have not moved your article to the sandbox. I have moved it to draft where it belongs. On a previous occasion you created it in draft but did not get around to submitting it for review. Later, you created it in your sandbox and moved it to article space without a review. The review process will help you to obtain feedback. Don't forget to read Wikipedia:COI before you go any further with it. Deb (talk) 16:13, 17 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Badr Al-Shibani article[edit]

Hi deb, i wanna ask you why i can't create the article and it's not promoted i focused on his writings and mountain he climbed and i saw articles about mountain climbers without problems such as Barry Blanchard, and he is author of two books, He was ranked by Forbes Middle East magazine among the most innovative entrepreneurs in Saudi Arabia in 2014, and he has a good coverage by media (TV and articles), articles and news in Arabic world. So i think this is no problem with this person or to write an article, if you want let me create a draft and when i finish it i will submit for review. Thanks for help in advance. You really don't sound like a doctor of medicine. How could someone with such poor written English produce the medical articles that have been created in your name? Deb (talk) 15:00, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
i can create medical articles with good English language because it's my specialty in discussions i don't focus on my English language because it's my 3rd language after arabic and french, it looks like i will be judged by you or others, i thought there is no judgments on wikipedia or investigation whether if i'm the real author or not Lanm-more (talk) 15:10, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
and i asked you about Badr Al-Shibani article not if i'm a doctor of medicine or not, i hope to answer me about my question
i'm here to discuss and try to help in editing Lanm-more (talk) 15:15, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You're wrong on all counts:
  1. If you copy verbatim from other sources, it's a copyright infringement, which is not allowed.
  2. If you can't write correctly in the English language, you won't be able to write effectively for English Wikipedia.
  3. Everything you write will be judged by others because Wikipedia is a collaborative project and all articles are reviewed for quality.
  4. If you impersonate others or use their IDs, you could end up being investigated further, like this: Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Ameer Fauri. Deb (talk) 15:16, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Letter from Mathilde Lefebvre[edit]

Hello Deb,

Thanks you for your help on my draft. (Draft:Letter from Mathilde Lefebvre - Wikipedia) Do you believe that I can resubmit my draft ?

Sincerely, Jeanne Angerie Jeanne Angerie (talk) 14:37, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for moving my work into a draft! Seeking your feedback on the article so far.[edit]

Hi Deb,

Thank you very much for moving my article, Draft:Patrick Scolyer-Gray, into a draft space - it clearly wasn't ready for the article space!

I will continue developing the draft as intended, but I was hoping you might be willing to provide some feedback/critique of the article draft - Just keen to ensure that I address the most significant issues with the article first.

Any feedback/critique would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

User:Perceptions and Truth (talk) 03:05, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Perceptions and Truth Carry on with the draft and you will get comments from many, if not before submission, then afterwards. Deb (talk) 07:47, 5 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again @Deb, I greatly appreciate the advice and guidance!

Hello, you deleted the two articles. Those two were notable enough. As per WP:NBEAUTY and WP:GNG, Sruthy Sithara passes the notability criteria. She is the title winner of Miss Trans Global. And Heidi Saadiya is the first transgender journalist from Kerala, India. The First from the state. To my knowledge from the read guidelines, that too asses the notability. Imperfect Boy has moved a draft to mainspace Heidi Saadiya for a third time. I do not believe there has been any improvement in the quality of references. Please consider Speedy deletion and salting. Hello Deb.[edit]

I got speedy deletion on this article and got deleted, but someone add a draft of the article. Can you undelete it? Fakemates (talk) 16:50, 13 August 2022 (UTC) Fakemates, that's a silly question. You created the draft yourself and you must work on it in draft space. If you put it into article space without a review, it will be deleted again and you won't get another chance. John May (architect) deleted for advertising[edit]

Hi Deb,

Why was this page deleted? This article was a standard academic biography consistent with many others on the platform and contained no promotional material. Are we not allowed to reference quotes describing the significance of young academics theoretical positions?

In addition the speedy deletion mean I need to rewrite the whole article as i was unable to contest your deletion.

Thanks Puck Osborne (talk) 19:55, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Puck Osborne I don't know what made you think it was a good idea to move an unreviewed draft to article space. The Wikipedia:AfC function is there precisely to avoid new users making mistakes like this. Yes, by all means rewrite the draft, after re-reading the guidelines. I'd recommend you look at Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Words to watch and maybe try the Wikipedia:NPOV tutorial as well. In particular, don't include external links in the text as you have been doing, and try to find better independent references; a list of articles he's written doesn't demonstrate notability. The fact that you refer to the subject of the article as "John" suggests that you are on familiar terms with him, so you also need to ensure that you comply with Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Deb (talk) 20:24, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

HI Deb - thanks for the guidance. I didn't realize publishing an article from the Draft space wasn't allowed. I only followed. I only followed the Wiki page saying the following:
"Publishing a draft requires an editor to use the page move function to move it into the Main (article) namespace. This means that anonymous editors, or registered editors who are not autoconfirmed, will need to request publication by inserting into their drafts the relevant template for requesting a page move. Editors may also optionally submit drafts for review via the articles for creation process by adding the code {{subst:submit}} to the top of the draft page."
I didn't think the 'option' to submit for review was the preferred format and will follow this approach in the future.
TBH I still don't understand why the tone of the article would be in violation of the NPOV guidelines after reading them. I will remove links from the text. Also my references were academic institutions who I would think should qualify as independent references. The selected publications are not what i'm referring to in terms of sources. These were added as I have a good library of John May's work in my Zotero and know how difficult they can be to find sometimes. Is this not suitable?
RE: COI - I attended Harvard GSD where John May is a professor and therefore am quite familiar with his work. I do not believe this violated the COI rules.
Would it be possible for you undelete the article so i can make the edits? Puck Osborne (talk) 20:55, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio query[edit]

Hi Deb, please explain "not a valid reason" on this article you draftified which is a clear copyright violation? I thought I had offered a very clear explanation on the talk page that this is a translated copyvio (especially as I know it would not show up in earwig). It very much is a valid reason. Please explain your thinking. Thanks. Bungle (talkcontribs) 20:33, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bungle I misunderstood - I thought it was a translation from French wikipedia. I see what you are getting at now, but it does require a knowledge of another language to spot it, and it's a pretty poor translation in any case. I should just have deleted it as a G7, I think. Deb (talk) 20:40, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thanks for revisiting this. The tell-tale signs were there, especially an editor with very few edits and large block paragraphs with questionable or single citations. I was under the impression that CSD deletions are always checked against talk page activity first though, which is where I gave a rationale. Alas, chrome browser translates foreign sites immediately and then copyvio is fairly easy to check against. This example had considerable verbatim copy-paste from the translated version so clear copyvio intent is proven, even if the quality of the translation is questioned. Thanks for reconsidering. Bungle (talkcontribs) 20:54, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Bungle Sorry, I have got into the habit of deleting Talk pages because they are almost always just standard templates and I didn't notice. Deb (talk) 21:00, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine, thanks for your honesty. I tend to use the article talk page of a CSD proposal if I think it may not be obvious as to why it is tagged as such, or if there is a rationale needed beyond what can be provided in the tag itself. I'd kindly ask you do just double check talk activity on CSDs though (even if you then disagree!). Many thanks. Bungle (talkcontribs) 21:05, 25 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Max Muay Thai[edit]

When you restored the article to Draft:Max Muay Thai, you also restored all previous deleted versions which contained copyvio material. Could you remove the versions prior to August 2022, and also consider restoring the associated talk page? Thanks. On another note, I wholly disagree on your deletion of the article as A7. The referencing present in the article at the time went far beyond establishing a credible claim of significance. --Paul_012 (talk) 09:37, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, will do that. If you could tell what the article was about, you are much cleverer than me. It was a very confused article, badly written and very unclear. Deb (talk) 11:56, 31 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion[edit]

Hello Deb

Copyright issue with restoration of Nicholas Evans[edit]

Your recreation of Nicholas Evans (artist) after it was deleted at Wikipedia:Copyright problems/2022 July 27 was highly similar to the deleted version; comparing the two versions, it appears you copied the deleted version over and did some minor rewording before recreating. The article still contained copyright issues; compare this revision to the Independent source. I have pasted some passages from the deleted original article, the recreation, and the source for comparison below:

Original: "Evans' ability to draw was discovered by one of his primary school teachers, who gave him a new pencil and encouraged him to sketch. He stopped after a while, however, as he could not afford to buy paper."

Recreation: "Evans' ability to draw was discovered by one of his primary school teachers, who gave him a new pencil and encouraged him to sketch. He stopped after a while, however, as he could not afford to buy paper."

Original: "Evans exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy's summer show and his pictures are today in many public galleries, including the Tate Modern and Swansea’s Glynn Vivian Art Gallery."

His figures often strike biblical poses, as in Carrying out the Dead (1979). In Black Avalanche (1978) Evans responded to the 1966 Aberfan Disaster with the painting showing the central figure of a policeman carrying a child's body, surrounded by grieving parents as in a Crucifixion scene."

These are only some of the more glaring examples; the copyvio was expansive and the article could have been feasibly G12d. It was eventually removed and reworded by other editors, and I have subsequently revision deleted it. Please do not do this again; if you are going to recreate an article that was deleted for copyright related reasons, you want to be completely sure that there are no issues with the material you take from the deleted version. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 23:35, 9 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Moneytrees I'm happy with the extensive work I did on improving this article. Most of these examples are not "glaring" at all but used wording based on sources that were not referenced in the original version, which was very different from the replacement. The only wording I left from the original was wording that in my view did not represent a copyright infringement. I created the new article in draft in order to ensure that it did not breach copyright, and the reviewer did not pick up on any problems or suggest any improvements. Deb (talk) 15:46, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I am baffled and disappointed by your response. "Most of these examples are not "glaring" at all but used wording based on sources that were not referenced in the original version, which was very different from the replacement. The only wording I left from the original was wording that in my view did not represent a copyright infringement."- There are several things incorrect here. The examples were indeed glaring, and the recreation could have been G12'd or otherwise stubbed. I'm deeply concerned that you think otherwise. While you did add references that were not in the original, including the source the article had originally copied from (which had not been originally cited), the actual text of the article remained mostly the same aside from a few removed sentences/new sentences and minor rewords/sentence rearrangements. Compare the revision before the article was blanked (admin eyes only, non admins can see a revision very close to it at https://web.archive.org/web/20220407010859/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicholas_Evans_(artist) ) to the revision you recreated (admin only). I would estimate about 80% of the wording is exactly the same (or otherwise extremely similar) between the two; this is blatant upon examination, and I can't understand how you could deny it. You say the reviewer didn't pick up on any problems; if that is true, then I have absolutely no idea how to interpret the several edits reviewer Jovanmilic97 made to the article which included the edit summaries "ced, copyvio" and "ced, still too much copyvio". Your reply displays a critical lack of understanding of how your actions related to the article were problematic, and is concerning of an administrator. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 17:56, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Forgive me if I say that doesn't bother me unduly - I'm repeatedly being told "You're an administrator - you should know better", about all kinds of things. If the reviewer wasn't happy, his correct course of action was to reject the article instead of moving it to article space, then I would have seen his comments. (Check out the section headed "Your submission at Articles for creation: Nicholas Evans (artist) has been accepted" on this page and you'll see that I was unaware of any remaining concerns.) I would have been perfectly willing to change anything I was asked to change. Deb (talk) 18:29, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The reviewer could have informed you of issues or rejected the article, but that is mostly irrelevant... there were still issues with the article. If you had kept an eye on the article afterwards, or done proper diligence when recreating the article, then there wouldn't have been an issue. I'm glad you would've fixed any issues brought to your attention and that you've made some further edits to the article, I'm just annoyed that this could've been easily avoided, and your lack of understanding why what you did was wrong. Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 16:12, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Frankly, it doesn't bother me that you are "annoyed"; I might have been "annoyed" by the hectoring tone of your tirade above, but I'm not, because I know you mean well, and an administrator's role is not an easy one. Why not take a break from copyright invigilation and try some content creation? It might help you acquire a sense of perspective. Deb (talk) 17:46, 14 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure what you're implying with that last part; I don't see my stance changing on this if I had more direct content edits. It's not like this was a case of minor close paraphrasing or an otherwise ambiguous violation. As you say, it is my responsibility as an administrator to follow up on issues such as this, even if it is not easy. I ask that you please not do this in the future, as it at the very least creates more work for others. Is that fair? Moneytrees🏝️(Talk) 18:31, 17 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You've already asked me that and I've already answered. Why labour the point? Administrators need to carry out content creation so that they understand the issues faced by the average editor and are able to see things in perspective. I'm not continuing this conversation any further. If you feel you need to have the last word, by all means have it. Deb (talk) 06:24, 18 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Following the speedy deletion of Khalydia Velasquez per A7/G4, the recreation of which was an honest mistake (I didn't create the original article and only became aware of its deletion after I'd published my own), could I get the more recently deleted article dumped in my userspace? Much of its content/references can be repurposed as addenda for articles with solider claims to notability. Ta! Danish Ranger (talk) 16:58, 12 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

College images boxes. Whether we like'em, or not[edit]

Can you review a draft?[edit]

Hi, can you review Draft:Aries Vismayas Max? I see Aries Vismayas Max was deleted in 2020 for G11. I don't know how that old article looked like, but this is a new article written by me, which I believe to satisfy WP:NPOV. Consider this separate. 117.230.83.52 (talk) 07:25, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It looks okay, but I don't see any reason to give it priority. As a new editor, you can expect to have to wait your turn for review. Deb (talk) 08:30, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
No hurry. But, being the deleting admin, if you can review it when the time comes, it would be much appreciated.--117.230.84.205 (talk) 10:01, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted article[edit]

Hello @Deb sir, you have recently deleted a article created by me with the name Faria Abdullah. The deleted rationale that you have provided is of previous deletion. The article that I created again I have added additional reliable citations and the person had multiple notable films and is passing the guideline WP:G4. Although I have contested the deletion on the relevant talk page the article has been deleted by you sir without providing a fresh rationale... please help me with this clarification if I am mistaken or at fault. Thank you 456legend(talk) 15:10, 25 October 2022 (UTC) 456legend - If you want to create a new article on this topic, please use the Wikipedia:Articles for creation facility to draft the article, and await a successful review. Deb (talk) 16:13, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Deb: Okay sir, but can please guide me where can I find my deleted article? So that I can create a draft article for review. I really took lot of time for editing it. Thank you 456legend(talk) 17:29, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Then you should have kept a copy. Deb (talk) 17:31, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

John V. Blankenbaker[edit]

Hey Deb. Thanks for stepping in on John V. Blankenbaker, I was honestly beyond knowing what to do by that stage. Just a note, there's still a copy of the article in mainspace John Blankenbaker - I nominated it for speedy A10. Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 08:37, 26 October 2022 (UTC) Alexandermcnabb Thanks for letting me know. I thought I'd got rid of the redirect when I moved it to draft. Deb (talk) 11:44, 26 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No, it wasn't your fault - when I draftified, the author recreated the article in mainspace (not sure how, perhaps an edit conflict?), then moved the draft to the new name then put it back into mainspace under the new name, leaving the article with the old name also in mainspace. A natty little mess, really! Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 11:59, 26 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
(Also I learned today that CSD G6 is better for flagging a mainspace article that already exists in draft. Thanks! :) Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 12:16, 26 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Shaheed Bir Uttam Lt. Anwar Girls School & College[edit]

I see you have deleted Shaheed Bir Uttam Lt. Anwar Girls School & College as a recreation of an article I deleted last year following an AFD. The new article is based on different sources from the original. Particularly, this article in The Daily Star is a far more acceptable source than this from the original article which is from the college's own website. There are other sources but they don't amount to much. It looks to me that the new article is not "sufficiently identical" to merit a G4 deletion and instead should go back to AFD. @Onel5969: SpinningSpark 14:10, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Onel5969:, @Spinningspark:, Yes, sorry, I meant to delete it as a G11. Would you like me to undelete it and delete it again with a new reason code? Deb (talk) 14:13, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
That would just be makework, but I'm not sure this merited G11 either. The lead claims it is "prestigious", but I'm prepared to believe that it is and that is what the (clearly somewhat partisan) source says. The "Extracurricular activities" is the worst bit (and the sources fail verification) but it would be easy enough to remove that short paragraph. SpinningSpark 14:41, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Spinningspark:, You're an admin, and I'm quite happy for you to restore and improve it if you care to. Deb (talk) 15:23, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not planning on doing much with it, other than perhaps delete an offending phrase or two. My plan would be to send it back to AFD to see what the community think. Are you still happy for me to restore on that basis? SpinningSpark 15:33, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Whatever you like. Deb (talk) 15:37, 27 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Stop misrepresenting me[edit]

You refused to withdraw false statements about my opinions, even though the falsity of those statements was proven to you. You are still doing it[13]. Stop it. I never said use it for Elizabeth I. Stop trying to twist my words to make up a lot of garbage. DrKay (talk) 11:40, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

DrKay Kindly drop the personal attacks. I did not say that you had said "use it for Elizabeth I". It's perfectly clear that I'm asking why you think it should be removed from Mary I and not from Elizabeth I or the other Mary I. Deb (talk) 11:43, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Kindly withdraw your false statements. It's perfectly clear why I think it should be avoided at Mary, Queen of Scots and retained at Mary I of England as that is explained in my comment at the draft RfC. I presume the 'Elizabeth I' you mention above is Elizabeth I of England, whom I haven't mentioned at any point. You appear, once again, to be confused. DrKay (talk) 12:09, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So why have you not suggested removing it from Elizabeth I's infobox? Deb (talk) 16:06, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Asking me to go away and asking me a question in the same breath is confusing. If you want me to leave you alone, then I will, but don't ping me or ask me a question.
As is obvious from my statements, I don't want it removed from Elizabeth I of England because she is called Elizabeth I frequently. Main facts about a person that are found in every biography of her written in the last sixty years should be included in the article. DrKay (talk) 17:00, 12 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Or is it just text? I don't know what I see, where could I look at the source code? 190.109.15.35 (talk) 04:11, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, no idea - you'll need to ask at the Wikipedia:Village pump, where all the technical questions go. Deb (talk) 09:16, 17 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your revert and explanation on Fry Medal - I'm new to doing CCI so the nuances aren't totally clear yet. It's not completely clear to me what the distinction between "blatant" and "not blatant" is and I'm wondering if you have any additional thoughts. In this case, the list itself is almost 100% copy/paste with the exception of a couple extended citations present in the webpage that aren't present in the article. Does the fact that it's a list article exclude it from the standard copyright expectations we'd expect if it was a block of prose? ThadeusOfNazereth(he/him)Talk to Me! 18:36, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

ThadeusOfNazereth The article does need improvement (and I'm working on that right now) but I think it would be almost impossible to describe an award like this without giving the definition of what it's for, as specified by the body that awards it. Deb (talk) 18:42, 24 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Although I'm a paid editor, I feel this topic worths mentioning on Wikipedia. I can give it another go if possible.

Any other recommendations, please let me know.

Speedy deletion of MEK troll farm[edit]

Hello. I was noticed today at 08:11 that MEk troll farm was nominated for deletion. I was writing at its talk page that it was not a valid deletions under A10 but did not get the time to save it before you deleted the article at 8:44. If you take a look at People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran#Propaganda campaign and compare it with the deleted article that still exist in my sandbox you can see for yourself that it is not duplicated. Besides, the main article, People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran, is already too long as has been mentioned many times by different users who are editing in that article, recently by Vice regent who wrote that we should seriously consider creating several spin-off articles. I just created one of those spin-offs; and as you know the A10 speedy deletion does not include split pages or any article that expands or reorganizes an existing one or that contains referenced, mergeable material. It also does not include disambiguation pages. so I want you to restore the article.Ghazaalch (talk) 14:42, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ghazaalch I've just checked your sandbox and the content is extremely similar to the deleted version, barring one or two minor re-phrasings. It's not the wording that is duplicated, it's the content. Deb (talk) 15:11, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

My sandbox is extremely similar to the deleted version because they are the same. I asked you to compare the deleted article with the section People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran#Propaganda campaign.Ghazaalch (talk) 04:49, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ghazaalch Well, they aren't the same and I misunderstood what you were asking. Nor did I suggest that the deleted article was the same as that section. The deletion reason was that it's the same topic, not that it's the same wording. The nominator presumably felt that the troll farm belonged in that section. Having said that, I get where you're coming from. So I'd suggest that, if you want to create a split page, then that's fine - but that's not what you did by creating an article about the troll farm. Why not just create a new page on the Propaganda campaign and include both your text and the content that's already in the article? And most importantly, add a link to the new page in the main article. Am I missing something? Deb (talk) 13:52, 26 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Deb, they are not even the same topic. propaganda campaign is considered a more general topic and MEK troll farm is obviously about the troll farm that is run from Albania and there are quite a lot of analyzes and reports about it. According to sources, the history of propaganda campaign dates back to 1986, but this troll farm issue is very new. I am interested in creating this new subject. MEK troll farm is in fact a split article for Troll farm#Albania. Ghazaalch (talk) 12:42, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I understand, but in that case it relates to two other articles and you can put hatnotes on each. I'll just undelete the article and you can resolve the issue in your own way. Deb (talk) 15:22, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you Deb. Ghazaalch (talk) 06:54, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Deb, I did as you advised me but the nominator deleted it. Ghazaalch (talk) 08:22, 5 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Elwes Author[edit]

Deb thank you for your questions and I have started to look at the Wikipedia Entry from your perspective rather than just Marchjuly and Jimfbleak perspective of trying to help my book tours run more smoothly this year. I mostly visit schools and libraries to help diarists or bloggers to see the merits of keeping records on internet platforms (like Facebook or even Geocashing stories on Google Maps or in Facebook Reviews to encourage). The original book started life as a book that was sent at random to academics to then post on to other readers effectively recycling a book like a library by post but over a far wider geographical area than most Landesbibiliothek. Some of the books gradually reached India, Australia, Alaska and even the Pitcairn Islands by post before Amazon really started to make this possible. We sent knotted hankies after each book two months later reminding readers to post on the book to a friend from Vorarlberg overseas or to famous celebrity hence the Royal letters and Presidents etc. Nowadays we send the book gratis on Amazon and this now enables musicians to enjoy it like Ed Sheran, Elton John and many other musicians, choirs and brass bands playing the music given gratis within the book as opposed to a playing CD which was in the first book. The idea was to show books could have "sounds and scents and sensibility" in libraries long before the interactive internet truly arrived in the 1980's. Best Wishes and I will try to find various academic letters to add to the source material for you. Robert Elwes Author Robert Elwes Author (talk) 09:24, 30 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

User:Robert Elwes Author It seems to me that you really don't understand what Wikipedia is about or how it works. You appear to be interested only in publicising yourself and your work. User:Marchjuly, contrary to what you appear to believe, has not created a draft article for you, and User:Jimfbleak is not interested in making your book tours run more smoothly. No one here wants to know the history of your book unless it is a notable book or you are a notable author, neither of which appears to be the case. There seems to be what we call a competence issue here, in that you seem to be incapable of creating a coherent article, even one that is not about yourself or your family. Right now, your editing pattern is verging on the disruptive, and this can get you blocked from editing altogether. Please try to understand what I'm saying. If you cannot follow the Wikipedia guidelines, you can't continue to edit here. Deb (talk) 09:31, 30 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I will try again to edit the article in draft format but I am finding it a bit tricky to edit down to your specifications. Best Wishes and sincerest apologies as I was simply trying to help with a useful Wikipedia entry. There is no advertising nor any sales or other motives as the book is free (often in fact sold by other institutions not myself). My motive is nothing other than to help students and schools find information that is not Robert Elwes Soldier or Robert Elwes Traveller. Please feel free to edit the information as I hope I understand your criteria is to provide information as platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Google, etc are my working platforms encouraging readers to try books after scrolling stories on their phones. Best Wishes. Robert Elwes Author (talk) 09:42, 30 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Robert Elwes Author (talk) 09:33, 30 November 2022 (UTC) I hope that my work in the Landesbibliothek can be now not confused with Robert Elwes Soldier and Robert Elwes Traveller (both ancestors) so that students and visitors can see my wikipedia entry whilst I am still alive and touring to encourage Diarists.[reply]
Robert Elwes Author (talk) 09:35, 30 November 2022 (UTC) my sincere apologies I thought a draft version as requested was helpful but please let me know if I am unhelpful.[reply]

Contentious topics procedure adopted[edit]

You are receiving this message because you are subscribed to updates on the Arbitration Committee's discretionary sanctions review process.

The Arbitration Committee has concluded the 2021-22 review of the contentious topics system (formerly known as discretionary sanctions), and its final decision is viewable at the revision process page. As part of the review process, the Arbitration Committee has resolved by motion that:

The above proposals that are supported by an absolute majority of unrecused active arbitrators are hereby enacted. The drafting arbitrators (CaptainEek, L235, and Wugapodes) are directed to take the actions necessary to bring the proposals enacted by this motion into effect, including by amending the procedures at WP:AC/P and WP:AC/DS. The authority granted to the drafting arbitrators by this motion expires one month after enactment.

The Arbitration Committee thanks all those who have participated in the 2021-22 discretionary sanctions review process and all who have helped bring it to a successful conclusion. This motion concludes the 2021-22 discretionary sanctions review process.

This motion initiates a one-month implementation period for the updates to the contentious topics system. The Arbitration Committee will announce when the initial implementation of the Committee's decision has concluded and the amendments made by the drafting arbitrators in accordance with the Committee's decision take effect. Any editors interested in the implementation process are invited to assist at the implementation talk page, and editors interested in updates may subscribe to the update list.

Thank you for your time. Fraliuc2 (talk) 12:32, 17 December 2022 (UTC) Fraliuc2 I think it is basically all right but it is straying a little towards advertising language, so I can't promise it will pass review. I think the external links ought to be removed as they are essentially promotional. I am going to leave the review for someone else, so you may have to wait a while. You should check out Wikipedia:NPOV again and review the draft in this light. Deb (talk) 12:36, 17 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted articles[edit]

Hello, why do have deleted articles on several year pages. I don't understand why you do this, because when you are doing this for fun or something else, then you must begin deleting many, many articles of my writing since 2008....Good luck, you're doing a fantastic JOB for Wikipedia!! Peters01 (talk) 16:30, 23 December 2022 (UTC) Peters01 Thanks. I haven't deleted any of your articles. I have deleted unreferenced entries which you created in year articles, contrary to the guidelines. Please don't add any entries to Year or Date articles without an inline citation. This guideline has been in place since 2018 so you should be aware of it. Deb (talk) 16:36, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Look at the year pages that I have working on since 2008. Check from 2018 to 2022, and I think that you will create many 'blanco pages'. Be my guest to delete all unreferenced entries, because they have most of all no inline citations. Why did I never hear of these guidelines, until today. I understand you're doing your JOB, but this makes it less fun for me to be well respected as a WIKIPEDIAN for many years now!! Peters01 (talk) 17:00, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • I don't know why you didn't know that there were Year guidelines. Perhaps you didn't notice the warnings that are on many of the pages you edited. I don't know why you didn't join Wikiproject Years. I don't know why you added references to some of the entries you made and not to others. But now that you have been made aware, you can help to clean up. Deb (talk) 18:09, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • You want me to clean up, let me start with my first edits on the year page 981 (1 January 2018). I hope that you are VERY HAPPY with this cleaning mission!! Peters01 (talk) 20:29, 23 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • Yes, it will be great to have help. Dank U Wel! Deb (talk) 07:05, 24 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, you recently deleted an article I worked on. By no means should the article be speedily deleted under WP:A7. Maybe an AfD is fair, but the subject's claim of significance is well beyond what an A7 is for. Have you checked the sources used within the article? What do you think? Orasims (talk) 00:59, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think that the article as it stands makes no claim of notability. It does not say what makes this company notable by comparison with any other in its field. The references from Manila-based papers seem to be based on the company's own press releases. Deb (talk) 13:05, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, a new user like yourself should not move articles from your sandbox straight into article space. You should have submitted this as a draft, using Wikipedia:Articles for creation, and it would not have passed review - either then or as it is now. Deb (talk) 13:11, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree. As to what WP:A7 is not for, the article only needs to make a credible claim of significance, which is well established (M Lhuillier is very well known in the Philippines) and not necessarily qualify on Wikipedia's notability guidelines, which I think the subject passes as well. There is at least a couple of pieces that are in-depth coverage in reliable 3rd-party press.
So, deletion under A7 is inappropriate here due to the credible claim of significance. As for notability, you may disagree and that's what an AfD is for.
If you have concerns over the subject's notability, you can take it to AfD, which I think is fair given what we have. Orasims (talk) 02:11, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The article contained no claim of significance whatsoever. If you believe that the article as it stood was fit for mainspace, you are still free to submit it as a draft and await a review. Deb (talk) 11:56, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Deb (talk) 11:59, 29 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
How about Manila Bulletin? Maybe BusinessWorld? Philstar, The Manila Times or SunStar? These are all credible and reliable sources. Nothing in the pieces I have used contains info that suggests the coverage is not independent or copied from a press release. Significance of coverage is met as well. So I'm not sure how the subject is not notable or has no credible claim of significance.
Would you please list for deletion using AFD as A7 is by no means lawful? If not, is there a process where I can object to your speedy deletion? Orasims (talk) 06:36, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If you had read the guidelines as avidly as you apparently read the ones on speedy deletion, you would know this. As you're inexperienced, I will tell you - go to Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion in the first instance. Read the full instructions there. Deb (talk) 08:56, 30 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'd have preferred if you warm-heartedly helped without blaming for asking for help. Have a great year ahead. Orasims (talk) 23:06, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

About the Mousepad (software) redirect[edit]

Back in August I submitted a request at WP:RMT to move Mousepad (Xfce software) to Mousepad (software) over the redirect. Since there had been an AfD in 2009 they suggested it be submitted as a draft first. It stayed in the Draftspace until Kvng asked on December 29 about WP:THREE, and that discussion can be found here. The first request to delete the redirect to make room for the draft was declined since the draft hadn't been formally approved. Since the draft was seemingly approved today that seems to be the reason and context behind this wording.

Sorry if any of that is unnecessary information, I just wanted to try to provide as much context as I could in explaining the editor's DB reasoning, and I wanted to see what would be needed to move Mousepad (Xfce software) to Mousepad (software)? Thanks. - Aoidh (talk) 16:18, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Deb, you deleted my article and you're confused about who John Henry Hammond was.[edit]

Deb, really, there is more than one person named John Henry Hammond. You deleted my article for the wrong reason. There was no need for you to have deleted my article. I am a first time Wikipedia user, and frankly, people like you make it a misery to work with Wikipedia. I recommend you do more research before you delete articles blindly. The John Henry Hammond who I was writing about was this one, who does NOT already have a page, and in fact articles in newspapers often comment on the confusion between this Brevet Brigadier General John Henry Hammond and the Lieutenant John Henry Hammond in Wikipedia who was a criminal, rapist, and proponent of slave ownership: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Henry_Hammond.

My Brevet Brigadier General John Henry Hammond was an incredible man who worked for the Union directly under General Sherman. This is General John Henry Hammond: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/38578990/john-henry-hammond

The fact that you and these other editors are so immediate to delete potentially worthy articles and make blind accusations of "clear conflict of interest" makes Wikipedia a truly miserable place to contribute to. Singer2cantor (talk) 22:23, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please undelete my article? I promise I will add the
now that I have seen your criterion at the top of this page. You caused me to lose many hours of work. I will follow these protocols in the future to prevent the immediate deletion of my articles. Singer2cantor (talk) 22:31, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I see now the code added to your page - "under construction" will be added with the brackets. Please undelete my article? Thanks. Singer2cantor (talk) 22:33, 1 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've checked this out and I see that you made several factual errors in your original article that caused confusion between the two John Hammonds. So actually, rather than me "causing you to lose many hours of work", it was you who caused me unnecessary work. That's okay, I'm used to being blamed for other people's mistakes. I also see that you've now submitted a draft, which is what we recommend new users to do when they want to create an article, and this was the correct action. I've made a comment on the draft, which may assist you. If you are still having difficulty in understanding, Wikipedia:Teahouse is the place to go for advice. Deb (talk) 08:23, 2 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Deb, this other John Henry Hammond is the son of Brigadier General John Henry Hammond. Maverick32 has been helping me with this for some time now and my experience with them has been quite positive. I made some progress on the inline citations now and wouldn't mind if you took a look at it and tell me what you think. I am not going to rehash all that happened here with Brigadier General John Henry Hammond. It all happened so quickly, and I don't blame you for deleting it anymore. I now see how editors may have thought I may have had a conflict of interest and why there was a recommendation to work on other John Hammonds. What you were looking at was the very first thing I did just to make sure I didn't lose my materials - I uploaded the autobiography of Gen. Hammond that I had transcribed from records I copied and edited from an archivist in Superior. Like everything I do, I credited myself on it. So I can see now why you would have concluded that even though the autobiography was not mine, it seemed as though I had edited or published it. But it was really just a quick way for me to copy the text on board so I could draw from it for the article I was preparing to work on. I did a lot of work on it, but all of the progress was lost when you quickly deleted it. It is not your fault at all. But I will say this a very unclear process and a clunky platform, and there is simply too much information to read and odd codes to absorb for a new editor. I only had thought the submission progress would take up to 6 months as Wikipedia told me for this first draft I submitted and that we had time to edit these things properly while we are waiting for an editor to eventually make their way to us. It sounds like things are slow at Wikipedia though and it doesn't actually take six months to get your attention. And for that I am appreciative. I learned my lesson. Thanks.
