not happy[edit]

Dear Dekisugi,

Recently an article i edited was changed by yourself. I had spent tireless hours consumed by research to advertise to people this new game. It is certaintly not fair that you can just come along and spoil the research i have contributed to wikipedia. wikipedia is all about editing pages to give people more changes yet none can be made due to your interference.

Perhaps i can write a letter to your manager telling them of what you have done? no more badges for Dikisugi. Oh yeah and your statistics are not very impressive. Just showed me that 19 people don't like you. And also you seem to be desperate enough to report someone who had innocently added to one of your articles.

Motivation for link[edit]

I would like to add some easy red information about international humanitarian law to the wikipedia page on the topic. Please have a look at the page www.diakonia.se/ihl and you will find easily explained rules of IHL. I do not see why the IHL Research Initiative link would be more relevant than the link to Diakonia's Easy Guide. The added value with the link I would like to add is that it leads to a page that targets not only lawyers (as the research initiative), but people in general. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ksouressaf (talkcontribs) 10:22, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

visitbritain[edit]

Why did you delete the update to the visitbritain information I added? VisitBritain did win an award at the world travel awards in 2007. The information from the 2005 award is up there currently, I don't understand what is wrong with updating this, with the latest information.

Also surely adding the fact that VisitBritain now has user-content material on it's websites is good background information about how the company is progressing and what it does. I wasn't trying to advertise, simply to update the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by LauraHolborow (talkcontribs) 10:34, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Update Blocked - reverted to original information[edit]

The information that was previously found under the 'Christian de Portzamparc' search was not created by Christian de Portzamparc and has hence been updated/modified by the Atelier Christian de Portzamparc, and is certified to be correct and current information - updated 2008-01-14 - please allow these changes to be saved

Hello there, I think it's really fantastic that you help to ensure that Wikipedia isn't abused - it's a great resource and I use it all the time to get info. I think you're doing a really important job - if lots of spamming and advertising was allowed then it would really devalue Wikipedia. I've noticed that you've posted a few messages on my user page asking me not to spam. I'm a confused because the links are not identical, they are specific to town guides on the site French Property Links, which I find has very valuable information on many French towns. I think the information I have added to the articles is useful and enhances Wikipedia - I'm certainly not trying to spam. Best wishes, User:Francomaniac 10:38, 15 January 2008

Christian de Portzamparc[edit]

Hello, thank you for your response regarding the update of information for Christian de Portzamparc. I would just like to clarify that the statistics added to the Wikipedia website were not intended as advertising material, but merely the diffusion of information about the current and past works of the agnecy. In collating the documents, we referred to the wikipedia pages of other architectural firms which all seem to have sections on current and build projects (see Jean Nouvel, Richard Rogers etc. I hope, in the interest of objectivity of wikipedia, that we will be able to provide the same data. Also, you mentioned that there was a conflict of interest in my user name being Portzamparc - is it advisable to have a username unrelated to the subject? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Portzamparc (talkcontribs) 16:31, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm cellist and teacher on italian conservatory and i am a "International society for music education" member.

many links on this page "cello" on wiki have more economic interests, like youtube, that it is a realy commecial web site. what do yuo think?

Speedily deleted page[edit]

You have deleted a page that I had just started creating after I had performed a first save to my text before adding all appropriate links to other pages within wikipedia. You then seem to have gone to the page created by someone else that I had originally linked from and deleted a large section from their page as well. Is such hasty action necessary? I didn't even have time to respond and delay the deletion of my new page before everything was gone. In my opinion the finished page would have been a valid addition to wikipedia: it was not advertising any companies; I would have added scientific citations; and it could have been linked in to many other pages int his area of research. —Preceding unsigned comment added by EADGENE (talkcontribs) 11:02, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've removed the speedy deletion tag from the above article. While the subject might not be notable, the article does assert notability in a reasonable way. You may wish to list it at WP:AFD instead, to get a broader consensus on the article. Thanks for your time and your hard work reporting these articles - even though I'm not deleting this particular one, your efforts are very much appreciated. There is an original, game of paddless Ping Pong located at http://www.alligator77002.com/alligators-amusements/ping_pong.html that belongs in Ping Pong disambiguation as this is a true Ping Pong amusement and does not belong in the "Table Tennis" category and there is no other place to list it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alligator77002 (talkcontribs) 19:44, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi[edit]

I know it's probably one of the custom templates and all that, but I think this[1] may be in breach of the spirit of biting the newbies to come down so hard on a first time editor. Wikipedia is still the encyclopedia anyone can edit, and for me there are friendlier ways this could have been handled. Maybe consider the advice at WP:RELAX regarding warnings and try and roll your own for a more personal approach. It's just a thought. Have a god one regardless. Hiding T 16:55, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • No problem. I know what you mean about featured articles, and it is at times hard to know what to add as much as what to leave out. It wasn't so much the removal as the somewhat stuffy warning. Anyway, no probs and happy editing. Hiding T 17:48, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, responding to your comment[edit]

This is a response to your comment on the added contents I suggested a the Hydropower. I thought that there were relatively extensive discriptions on the subject, including the mathematics (or physics if you call it). But, as you know, computer programs to help solve some of the physical problems are relevant in this information age. Thus, adding a software example under that subject would be a positive rather than a negative. Believe me, that SIMAHPP is a software that is very compatible with the context of the hydropower subject. I have been using this tool since last year. I do not mind if you know other software and include some list there as we can see more examples of that kind in Wikipedia. I thought I would drop some information that's relevant to enhance pages here ....

Noah's Classifieds Deletion[edit]

You've just deleted Noah's Classifieds, so speedily that no one could object

Apparently it has been deleted because: "This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article."

Noah's Classifieds happens to be free software and the only people who benefits from it are the users. By deleting that information you are effectively pushing them towards a commercial solution from a private company, product, group, service or person.

The article only had an InfoBox, a Description, list of Features, History and links to official sites. Could you explain what needed to be "fundamentally rewritten" so speedily? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 1001webs (talkcontribs) 15:37, 8 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Not really, just giving you a heads up that your revert on the Stand-up Comedy page was itself undone (by a semirandom person). Thomas Ponniah[edit]

I just wanted you to see the new article with an entry at WP:AFD, and wondered if you think notability is now established? (Mind meal (talk) 07:12, 13 February 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Thanks for your comment. The references are not self-referential in that they are there to demonstrate he has written for Znet and been interviewed by openDemocracy. Being published in academic journals, mind you, is no small feat. According to Wikipedia:PROF, he passes several given examples.

1. An academic who has published a book or books of general interest, a widely used textbook, or non-academic articles in periodicals with significant readership is likely to be notable as an author (see WP:BIO), regardless of their academic achievements. Similarly, an academic involved in significant current events is likely to be notable as a person under the general WP:BIO guidelines. NOTE: The italicized portion is clear in this article.

2. An academic repeatedly quoted in newspapers or newsmagazines may be considered to meet criterion 1. A small number of quotations, especially in local newsmedia, is not unexpected for academics and so falls short of this mark. (For this, he is quoted in multiple books).

Also, I believe him to be a "significant expert in his or her area by independent sources" given the amount of references to his material. That does it. I respect your opinion, but certainly do not agree with it. I'm not easy on notability, but he does pass. (Mind meal (talk) 10:33, 13 February 2008 (UTC))[reply]

While I recognize your importance on a site like this, I think it may have gone to your head.[edit]

I noticed you reverted my changes, saying they were "like ads, US-Centric, and UnEncyclopedic." Not that I think a person like you would care, I think you have not thought through your comment very well. The whole world has mailboxes, and I noticed that the page currently only spoke of European regulations, so I added some US regulations. Should I have added regulations for all the other countries as well? Maybe, but I am an American, I only know US regulations. UnEncyclopedic? WOW. You've probably read every public page of Wikipedia, so I'm sure you've seen it all, for those of us who haven't, but want to make a valuable contribution to this community, there's bound to be a learning curve. We can't all match your apparently high standards for the quality of the material that should be allowed to be posted. Some of us are just regular folks who may have worthwhile things to say and be heard. And lastly, "Like Ads"? I can only assume this is because I cited a reference to another informational site where I found some of my information because there were no other citations and because of the link to the oldest online store and manufacturer of mailboxes we could find. You may have noticed that was in the history section. I thoroughly disagree that this was "Ad-Like" or in any way was intended as a promotion of those businesses, however I did edit the content somewhat as a result of your comment, and would appreciate any recommendations you have. I've looked all over for more than an hour and can't find any other references to mailbox manufacturing or sales that indicate who were the first individuals or companies to begin mass producing mailboxes or selling them to the general public. If you know of any, I'd love hear about them.

Normally I try to be very cordial the first opportunity I have to communicate with someone new, but I've read your talk page and you come accross more like an egotistical, pompous, self-proclaimed protector of Wikipedia who is judge, jury, and executioner without the slighest regard for any human element. I feel that if you had taken my additions in context and given some thought to the whole content of the page like I had, I'll bet you would have at the very least not called it "US-Centric".

On a more positive note, having over a million pages of websites myself, most of which allow for user feedback of various kinds, I can certainly appreciate having someone with a very strict interpretation of what is and is not allowed. If I had an employee like you I'd make you a two man team with someone who is more able to relate to people and think about how us humans really work. You're on one end of a very big spectrum. While I appreciate your work, I'd like you to think some about the quality of it before you continue. We certainly need people like you, but maybe without the (perceived) apparent disregard for others. You can do better, just give it some thought before you go slashing at what people have worked hard at contributing.

I should also state, that I will be working more on the page. I do NOT want to get into an edit war with you, and would LOVE to hear any suggestions about how we could improve the page or where I could find more information for the page. You may have gathered, I work in mailboxes, I'll work very hard to make sure that I add valuable content that conforms to Wiki's guidelines, and have zero interest in being the kind of person you have anything against. I'm new to Wikipedia, and would love to have some help from someone as obviously experienced as you are. I will even go so far as to say I may have misjudged you, and if that turns out to be the case I'll gladly apologize.

Thanks, Mike (talk) 02:08, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

wild swimming[edit]

Dekisugi - the links to wild swimming, the term used in the Uk for swimming in nature, are clearly relevant to the skinny dipping and swimming hole pages, and only add value and context to the article. Why have you deleted them? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Daniel.start (talkcontribs) 21:07, 11 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So what's the deal then?[edit]

Ok, so if you wrote the article then are you trying to keep anyone else from changing it? Are you convinced it's perfect as is? I think there's a lot of great information that could be added to it. I can understand if you feel like it's your baby. Not that big a deal. Believe me I've got better things to do than make changes only to have you revert them. The world is big enough for both of us... maybe just barely, I'm a big guy.

Now the comment on Wiki not being a manual, I understand, (and appreciated, it made some of your talk page comments make more sense) but even in there, it says you can talk about a website if you "describe the site in an encyclopedic manner, offering detail on a website's achievements, impact or historical significance". Particularly online, putting in the history section that the oldest site we could find that sold mailboxes online was that site? Or that the oldest manufacturer of mailboxes we could find was that manufacturer? I realize it's not grandiose, but I think at least historically significant.

I love that you left the reference to the USPS mailbox regulations, but took out the text above it concerning them even though you've got text above that talks about European regulations. Are you British? A lot of brits think of the US as it's red-headed step child, so that would make your "US Centric" comment make sense since a few US facts, in my opinion, would make the article more well rounded, nationally speaking.

referencing new books on skinny dipping and swimming hole[edit]

Hi Dekisugi,

I notice you've arbitrarily deleted reference to my book, while leaving reference to various other external links and books, many of which are commercial enterprises. e.g.

"Day Trips with a Splash: Hiking guides to swimming holes in California, Southwest, New England, Adirondacks and Appalachians. Hundreds of trips with photos, maps and GPS."

What is the difference between this link (put up by the author too) and the link to my book?

Many of the links on 'skinny dipping' and 'swimming holes' are to commercial products (books and films) and could be called 'advertising' or 'spam'. How do you chose one book over another to delete? Is it whether the author puts them up or someone else? Is it by how long they have been published? If so then this should be part of the official content policy, no, rather than your personal opinion?

I have added the link correctly, using a reference, and have also contributed intelligently to both articles, adding additional material and improving their structure. Why have you taken a personal dislike to me and my contributions?

By what consensual and democratic process would you suggest we resolve this disagreement?

Regards

MMR Hoax Deletion[edit]

Dear Dekisgugi

Re: the MMR Hoax redirect, I was mid-way through writing a justifaction on the discussion page. Ben Goldachre, a popular writer in the British newpaper The Guardian, refers to the MMR Controvery as the "MMR Hoax" (for example [2]). I thought it was worth having a redirect for people look it up on wikipedia after seeing it in newpaper articles.

Anytime :-) TheProf | Talk 17:15, 24 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the speedy tage because the definition of patent nonsense is as follows:

  1. Total nonsense, i.e., text or random characters that have no assignable meaning at all. This includes sequences such as "rtmhtyhjjflbhjoglhjgblvjh\[\\\\98kjt9ykbitiof,kkc", in which keys of the keyboard have been pressed with no regard for what is typed.
  2. Content that, while apparently meaningful after a fashion, is so completely and irredeemably confused that no reasonable person can be expected to make any sense of it whatsoever.

The article an essay, and most certainly meaningful and sensible. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 15:14, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion[edit]

I notice that you tagged the page Skooch for speedy deletion with the reason "an article about a group or club that does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject". While that's a valid reason for speedy deletion in general, this page does not qualify for speedy deletion under that criterion because sadly, this is an article about a sport, not a club. If you still want the page to be deleted, please consider tagging it with a speedy deletion template which does apply, redirecting it to another page, or using the WP:AFD process. Thanks! New Page Patrolling[edit]

Hi there! I've been going through the New Pages log, particularly the back end of it. I've come across an article (Web design studio) that you've added a tag to that hasn't been patrolled. I was wondering if you could make sure that you mark an article as patrolled before you tag it as then it won't show up on the list, which will save people patrolling an article that has already been looked at by an experienced editor like yourself.

Please accept my apologies if you are doing this and the software is lagging behind, or if you're just tagging articles that you're coming across from a different source that doesn't allow you to patrol them. Thanks in advance! --Ged UK (talk) 08:07, 15 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, not a problem! Basically users like you and me check new pages, and if we think there's problem, we tag them. Then an admin looks over the tagged pages and makes a decision. The trick with new page patrolling is not to tag things as fast as possible, but to give the article a bit of breathing space. And by making sure that you 'mark article as patrolled' before you add any tags means that someone else doesn't have to look at the article unneccesarily. Keep up the good work though! --Ged UK (talk) 09:51, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Paraguayan Military[edit]

Are you an expert on the Military in Paraguay? I bet you don't realize that premature greyness is considered a sign of great wisdom and leadership in their culture. This is why young men with this condition are obligated to serve 20+ years in the Military, often becoming high ranking generals. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Brianburban (talkcontribs) 14:20, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Why the deletion?[edit]

Your intervention suggests you regard the information below as not being factual. So please could you advise which aspects of the following sentences you find controversial, "editorial" or "a matter of opinion"?

  • James Allen was Britain's first TV commentator of F1 in the Internet era.
  • The emergence of Lewis Hamilton brought tens of thousands of "new" fans to F1 in Britain.
  • The Internet era was marked by a rise in participatory interventions and online campaigns.
  • There was an internet campaign on Facebook against Allen.
  • The campaign was largely based on the fact that Allen was seen as biased against Hamilton.

If you want to add the word "Cock" at all costs, as well as the links to all those old Facebook groups, by all means do so, but I don't think your attempts to remove this context is defensible. FacchettiBurnich Facchettiburnich (talk) 14:40, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Truth not the issue?[edit]

I see you are determined, for whatever reason, to keep control of this bio. I was just trying to add some background so the more hurtful references - no hiding, James is an old friend from when I designed Autosport & F1 Racing a lifetime ago -- could be seen in context. Never mind. Cheers FacchettiBurnich Facchettiburnich (talk) 15:09, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Guujaaw and User:Guujaaw's contributions[edit]

While, yes, many of User:Guujaaw's editions were uncited, and he did delete material already in the article and otherwise unlink and unstyle it, it was a good faith edit and not vandalism; a little diplomacy please - this user is very likely in WP:COI territory and is probably Guujaaw himself; but he's the President of the Council of the Haida Nation and it's impolitick to delete his attempts at improving the article; better to have tidied it up, replaced what he unknowingly deleted in violation of "add, don't delete", and add fact tags where needed. It won't help Wikipedia if the Haida people are "offed" by Wikipedia's coverage of them or if they're insulted by harsh applications of Wikipedia guidelines....some tact, please....Skookum1 (talk) 15:58, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
