Arizona, LOCATOR Dot's, 50 states

(Boy, getting a TEAM barnstar...good work!-(you might need it to help fix THIS problem)) I've just put the locator DOT maps on: Talk:Four Corners Monument and the original (2nd talk page)(3rd, 1st was Talk: Aravaipa Creek), 2nd talk: Talk:Dendora Valley. The SIZING map problem is quite obvious.... and for all 50 states, DOT's near a state's center (THIS is on the STATE, .svg Maps), near the center will be close, (the 1 accurate spot the very center of the map itself)... anyway, the first person I contacted was User:Hmains. I'll update him with this same message. Easy answer: as I wrote at the editors talkpage and in the edit history: The ASCII art-image was totally destroyed since Autoed didn't check such images. (I will write a bug report). I apologize for that, I did not notice that it changed the image, or that it was ASCII art. I did check the edit, and previewed it, but I didn't notice that the photograph was changed. Berkley Bridge

Hello, I came across your photo of the new temporary Berkley Dighton bridge and was surprised to see that you are not a 'local'. How did you come to be in a position to photograph our mighty span? But actually I am asking for advice. What is the best software to use on a mac to teach a 9 year old (my son) how to begin programming? I just moved away in September. I'm going to miss seeing the new bridge.

I have no idea how to start a 9-yo in programming. Things have changed a lot since I was 9. You can download XCode from Apple, but that would be dropping him in the deep end, as that's the regular set of tools for programming the Mac. Professionals use it for building commercial programs. Granted, he doesn't have use all of it at the beginning. Maybe learn it yourself, then show him how to use simple things, like C procedural programming. You might consider which language would be appropriate for him to start with. Maybe Eiffel for pure OOP? Perl? I really can't say, having never tried to teach programming to a kid. When I was a kid, the options were much more limited. I started with BASIC, which I wouldn't recommend now. C kicks butt, but I'd really try to start him on a reasonable path, using something object oriented. Hi Denimadept

You re-inserted the {{recent death}} template with a comment that the template's applicability is based on "not the quantity of editors but the edits" However, this is directly contradicted by the template's documentation, which states "this template should only be used when many editors (perhaps a hundred or more) are editing the article on the same day."

I am removing the template again. Please don't re-insert it again unless the article's editing frequency (by unique editors) increases to near the articulated threshold.

Vandalism warnings

Hey, I just noticed you giving a level 2 and then a level 3 warning to anon ip 85.210.103.45, but that person has not in fact edited since the level 1 waring I gave them at 19:41. This is referring to that $2,500. It says after "which he would be paid $2,500 (US$56.7 thousand in present terms[14]) for his work." The $2,500 is approximately $56.7K now. I copied the syntax from Harvard Bridge, which seems to have been accepted both there and here, when I made the change the day this article was Featured. - Denimadept (talk) 21:00, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Brooklyn Bridge

I noticed you reverted the edits I made to the Brooklyn Bridge opening date. The infobox is now back to the version featuring two dates: May 23 and 24. Maybe it's a matter of defining exactly what a bridge "opening" is, but after doing research, by far the most commonly cited date is the 24th. Multiple contemporary newspapers report that this is the date the bridge was dedicated and that the opening ceremonies were held that evening. The one website using the 23rd as the date is unclear about where it gets that info. This is a minor discrepancy of course, but with Brooklyn's rich historical record, it seems strange we can't have the bridge's "opening" nailed down to one date. If you specify one date, you need to be able to say no reliable sources exist for another date. It makes no real difference to me. If you disqualify the source which says the 23rd, you'll likely end up having to fix another person, like the person who made this edit, which, you'll notice if you step forward a few edits, I originally reverted. I tend to give someone the benefit of the doubt if I can find something which backs them, and just call it a discrepency between sources. It's up to someone else, like you, at that point to resolve the different sources if you can. Otherwise, we have to clarify it in the regular prose, like "dedicated and used on the 23rd by VIPs and opened to regular traffic on the 24th". I can't argue that the source containing "23rd" is a bit vague. There may be other sources which state the 23rd, but I stopped when I found one. - Denimadept (talk) 04:25, 31 May 2011 (UTC)

I see that you're trying to be fair to the user who found the 23 date, but the only source for that date probably shouldn't be considered reliable. Not only is that source ([1]) a secondary source that is heavily outnumbered by others, it contradicts itself when it uses May 24, 1983 as 100th anniversary. Hey there, and thanks for offering up your comments to the anon IP on his changes to the article for Virtual Console. Also, thanks for catching the typo, that appears to have been made here. There is a difference between Kiefer's typo and the changes this IP wants to make; I'm sure that Kiefer would also thank you for catching his typo, as would I had I made it. However, the words that this IP keeps wanting to add simply don't exist in common English. When questioned about them, he gets defensive and even questions our intelligence, instead of explaining exactly why his terminology (?) is better. And if you think I'm wrong on Queensboro Bridge, go ahead and look into Joe DiMaggio Highway. The Wikipedia page for this road still redicrects users to its old name, West Side Highway. Its unofficial, but it's still the popularly accepted name.

Another example is Sixth Avenue in Manhattan, which is officially Avenue of the Americas but the main Wikipedia page for this road is filed under Sixth Avenue.
