A tag has been placed on File:Cagiva C594.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:38, 4 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi! This is to inform you that a user you reported on Wikiquette Alerts( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikiquette_alerts/archive69#User:Wtshymanski_and_Jump_start_.28vehicle.29 ) is now the topic of an Administrators' Noticeboard Incident ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Administrators%27_noticeboard/Incidents#Wtshymanski_failing_to_work_collaboratively ). Sonny Barger Updates

All of the info used in my update to Sonny Barger's page was taken from his autobiography, which is listed in the references. What do I have to do to contribute to this page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dracula08 (talkcontribs) 21:58, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Carefully read and follow Wikipedia:Citing sources. Make sure you understand it, and ask questions if you don't. Also read Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. I would also check out Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons if you have time.

After reading, ask questions here, or Talk:Sonny Barger, or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Motorcycling, or Wikipedia:Help desk. There are many of us who are happy to assist you. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 22:26, 29 April 20 --Dennis Bratland (talk) 23:43, 29 April 2011 (UTC)

Sibirsky Extreme

You may have searched the wrong criteria:

Your comments all refer to Sibersky Extreme ... you should perhaps search Sibirsky Extreme. Note the spelling difference. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.66.189.213 (talk) 14:40, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Yes, I did, and you must be aware it makes no difference. There are no independent sources. No sources, no article. Are these edits yours too? And Colebatch? --Dennis Bratland (talk) 14:48, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Yes they are. I was advised to contribute to Wikipedia as someone researching the northern extremes of Siberia noted that the Sibirsky Extreme Project wasn't listed among the number of references for the region and contacted me to update the information. Yet the project is widely referred to as a reference project by adventure motorcyclists and is often referred to by the likes of AskYakutia.com, a Yakutian travel advisory service. Posts related to the project by the principle on the worlds largest adventure motorcycle website, ADVrider.com have received around 2 million hits. The Sibirsky Extreme Project (2009-2010) was referred to widely in Robert Wicks 2010 book "Building the Ultimate Adventure Motorcycle" ISBN 9781844258369, and will be featured in a further title "Great Adventure Motorcycling Routes" by the same author to be published later this year. The information shown on the Kolyma Highway page was riddled with out of date information and incorrect information. I have both updated it and corrected it where necessary.

I was also asked to contribute an entry for the BAM Road, a road which parallels the BAM Railway for which there is an entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baikal_Amur_Mainline). As very very few other people have any first hand information regarding the road, it made sense that I author a page.

On the page the list of intercontinental motorcycle riders, I took the time to rearrange a badly assembled page that was completely out of chronological order (as it claimed to be at the top of the page). I further added the Tokyo to London Project, an historic first unescorted crossing of China by motorcycle. That story was published in 13 magazines around the world from Australia to Europe. The content was deleted by someone. Was that you? Why? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.136.182.25 (talk) 15:19, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

I'm sorry if someone invited you to edit Wikipedia without encouraging you to learn about how to edit Wikipedia. Although you must have noticed the numerous links to help that appears when you click the Edit tab, such as the Wikipedia:New contributors' help page.

You obviously can't cite a future book, but if or when it is published, feel free to cite it then. Forums like AVRider.com not relevant, because they are just anonymous opinions which anyone is free to add. It doesn't matter that AVRider gets 2 million hits or 20 million hits. AskYakutia.com is just a blog. See Self-published sources for more information. The book Building the Ultimate Adventure Motorcycle might be helpful, but only if there is significant, deep coverage of Sibirsky Extreme. Just mentioning the name is of no consequence. These criteria are explained in Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources. If you read and understand that, as well as Wikipedia:Citing sources, it can save you from a lot of wasted effort. The core idea is verifiability: everything should be verifiable in an independent source. Please read these policies; I promise you it will reduce your frustration with Wikipedia. Reading Wikipedia policies takes a long time, but the fact is Wikipedia has become a very complicated thing.

The history of List of intercontinental motorcycle riders explains the reason for the edits. Please remember to add an edit summary to explain any edits you make. I tried to keep the edits you made reordering the table. Here and here are where I explained why removed Walter Colebatch, the entries you added about yourself. There are not any independent, reliable sources that cover Walter Colebatch, and the standard in Wikipedia:Notability (people) requires not just one or two mentions, but substantial and in-depth coverage. Talk:List of intercontinental motorcycle riders has more discussion about what to include and exclude from the list.

Pleaes remember to log in when editing, and please sign your posts. Thank you! --Dennis Bratland (talk) 18:23, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you Dennis. I have a number of references for the above material. Please advise if that is what you are looking for and sufficient for Wikipedia's purposes.

(1) The mentions of the Sibirsky Extreme Project and its principle, Walter Colebatch are indeed more than passing mentions in Robert Wicks book "Building the Ultimate Adventure Motorcycle", Haynes, 2010. Page 47 features a summary of the Sibirsky Extreme project, its principle, and his motorcycle, taking up exactly half the page. More significantly, pages 124 - 137 (14 full pages) are exclusively a detailed profile of the Sibirsky Extreme Project. This includes the following introductory extract on page 125: "Walter Colebatch is a well-known adventure motorcyclist who has travelled the globe on two wheels for many years. His most recent challenge has been the Sibirsky Extreme Project". Additionally there are further passing mentions of the principle or the project, or photographs relating specifically to the Sibirsky Extreme Project on pages 2, 4, 5, 31, 40, 41, 65, 171 and 174.

(2) The Tokyo to London Project story was published in detail in 13 different motorcycle magazines in 1995 and 1996. Among those are the following 6 magazines (I dont have copies of the other 7):

Motorcycle International (U.K.) April 1996 edition (#131), "Tokyo to London Part 1", pp 66 - 72

Motorcycle International (U.K.) May 1996 edition (#132), "Tokyo to London Part 2", pp 60 - 66

Motorcycle International (U.K.) June 1996 edition (#133), "Tokyo to London Part 3", pp 82 - 87

Moto 73 (Netherlands) 1995 issue 20, "Monsterreis Tokio - Londen; Van Taiga tot Hyde Park, deel 1", pp 58 - 65

Moto 73 (Netherlands) 1995 issue 21, "Monsterreis Tokio - Londen; Van Taiga tot Hyde Park, deel 2", pp 54 - 60

Super Bike (Sweden) June 1995 Edition, "Tokyo-London, del 1", pp 48 - 54

Super Bike (Sweden) July 1995 Edition, "Tokyo-London, del 2", pp 36 - 42

Moto Revue (France) No 3185 (18 May 1995), "Aventure Marathon: De Shangai a Londres en Transalp - 1re partie", pp 44 - 49

Moto Revue (France) No 3187 (1 Jun 1995), "Aventure Marathon: De Shangai a Londres en Transalp - 2e partie", pp 54 - 60

Motorrad Magazin (Austria) No 2 (May 1995), "Der Reise vom Ende der Welt", pp 84 - 92

Two Wheels (Australia) May 1996, "The Tokyo to London Project" pp 65 - 73

Two Wheels (Australia) June 1996, "The Tokyo to London Project - Part 2" pp 65 - 73

The Tokyo to London Project was also covered in non-motorcycling publications such as Australian Geographic, No 40 (October - December 1995), "Adventure and Expedition News", p34, and countless newspaper articles. Colebatch (talk) 17:32, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

—Preceding unsigned comment added by Colebatch (talkcontribs) 15:50, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

The answer to your question is found in Identifying reliable sources. Once again, I request that you read it. Since it is obvious that you are promoting yourself, you should also read any or all of the following:
And of course, read Conflict of interest. As you can see, the deletion discussion is concluded: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sibirsky Extreme and the article was deleted. After you read the pages I suggested above, you can try Wikipedia:Deletion review if you wish. In my opinion you should not be promoting yourself, and instead you should let independent editors with no conflict of interest re-create the article if they want to. But that's only my opinion and you are free to try deletion review if you want to. And please sign your posts. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 17:25, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

I agree that its not ideal to put forward ones own material, but if the references above are not sufficient then I have no interest in taking it further. But I think its naive ... or at the very least you guys turn a blind eye to material that is put forward either by people purporting to be someone else such that there is no "apparent" conflict of interest, or put forward by a wife or friend as a way of circumventing the appearance of a conflict of interest. After all, the people with the greatest interest in contributing to an online encyclopaedia and who will be prepared to put in time to provide the information and detail are going to be the people with an interest to promote. Some of those may be quite direct, like myself, others will be much more "oblique". Some of the information on adventure motorcycling and adventure motorcyclists you guys have is highly contentious and clearly put forward by self interested parties (perhaps in oblique ways mentioned above). Colebatch (talk) 17:50, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

However, having provided you with extensive references by a 3rd party publication ... Author Robert Wicks, publisher Haynes ... I think you ought to correct this false statement : Walter Colebatch "Besides his own websites, [1] and [2], there is no independent coverage of Walter Colebatch in reliable sources. This fails WP:SPS and Wikipedia:Notability (people). --Dennis Bratland (talk) 20:28, 29 April 2011 (UTC)". Unless you consider Haynes an unreliable publisher, or Australian Geographic. This occurs on the following page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:List_of_intercontinental_motorcycle_riders. Colebatch (talk) 18:52, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Yes I will eventually look into it once I can get my hands on copies of the sources you mentioned. And I'm sure in a couple years Sibirsky Extreme will have more coverage to work with in other sources. Wikipedia is not a news site, so up-to-the-minute coverage of the latest thing is not a goal. See also Wikipedia:There is no deadline. You might want to request an admin to userfy the former Sibirsky Extreme article so you can work on it and bring it back at a future date. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 19:52, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

Can you elaborate on how to improve the UJM article. I'd like to improve the article and think maybe you could help flesh out what it needs. 842U (talk) 12:11, 8 May 2011 (UTC)

The data is fine, as far as it goes. The opinions about the data aren't contained in the sources. Discuss at Talk:Motorcycle_safety#Disupted_accident_rates_section. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 23:05, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I just joined because I need to update my company logo in wikipedia, someone had uploaded an old logo of ours. Please could you let me know how to go about this? Thank you so much. FalconMC (talk) 12:46, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

Go to File:Falcon motorcycles logo.jpg and scroll down to the table with thumbnails all the previous versions of the logo. Below the table, click the link Upload a new version of this file. However, you will be blocked from editing if you to this because you have created an account named after a company, which violates WP:CORPNAME. First either change your user name, or create a new account (much easier), then upload the new logo. Wikipedia:Username policy has more information on choosing an appropriate user name.

Also, please read these articles:

Response to your post on my talk

Sorry I've taken a long time getting back to Wikipedia, and so I haven't responded to your post to my talk about tagging--it was all an accident coming from making a bad list on AWB. I'm looking over them now, but I could very well miss some. Thanks for your patience. —Justin (koavf)TCM☯ 22:43, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

I see. Thanks for letting me know. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 23:55, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

Rockers

Dennis,

what do I need to do to post this photo of the rockers poster?

I appreciate assistance rather than false and groundless accusations. (Triumph Metisse (talk) 20:24, 21 May 2011 (UTC)).

Keep in mind that I don't have any special powers. The file wasn't deleted by me; an administrator made that decision. My only role was bringing it to the attention of an admin. This is determined by the overall policy Wikipedia:Copyrights. You definitely should read that. As you can see on the infobox on the right of that article, there are many sub-pages that explain the various aspects of copyright policy on Wikipedia. The specific area I think we need to look at here is Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.

Anyway, I'll help if I can. I don't understand why including an image of this particular poster is such a high priority, but I suppose it can add some decoration to the article, provided it can be licensed. But never minds that.

First question: Where did the poster come from, specifically? Second: Where did the electronic version (Rr10.jpg) come from? --Dennis Bratland (talk) 21:09, 21 May 2011 (UTC)

Krontach

I think we are going to have a bit of fun with Krontach. He doesn't seem to grasp the concept of original research yet. Worth keeping an eye on... --Biker Biker (talk) 01:12, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

I haven't been in the mood to lecture at length about what Wikipedia is and isn't, but I suppose it's inevitable. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 01:45, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
You are talking about this? Nothing more? Pfft, neither of you have left anything besides a template on the user's page. tedder (talk) 01:48, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
Talk:Motorcycle_history#Massive_Errors_in_Logic.2C_Facts.2C_and_Authority_.28lack_of.29 and [1]. And more. Been a while since I saw the <big> tag used non-ironically. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 01:56, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
That's a WP:TLDR-length rant. Still, be nice and AGF, okay? tedder (talk) 02:00, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
I think 101_Zen_Stories#A_Cup_of_Tea is a good illustration of the problem. But even an editor who doesn't want to follow WP:NPOV can still challenge us to strengthen the references of the motorcycle history articles. But I'll try to AGF. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 02:31, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
...And I think this is going to turn out to be a decent article. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 17:15, 24 May 2011 (UTC)
I really don't know what I'm doing..Could someone look at my NS Motorcycle page and tell me what's wrong with it? I can't get the infobox to work correctly, although I was able to get it to work on the California Motor Company page... abit. Krontach (talk) 21:23, 27 May 2011 (UTC)
I made some copyedits and added {{Infobox motorcycle}}. I don't know what trouble you ran into with the infobox, but usually what happens to me is that somewhere inside the box I have an unclosed template or link. For example, if you write {{Convert|400|cc|abbr=on} with a missing } at the end, it will break the infobox, and it can be hard to spot the error. Let me know if you have questions about the edits I made. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 22:35, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks

For fixing my students edit at [2]. Could you go to his talk page and explain why, how and what did you improve from his edit? I could do it myself, of course, but it would be nice if another member of the community appeared to prove to the students that this is really more than just a class project :) Thanks in either case, --Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| talk 15:45, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Done. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 17:37, 24 May 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the Help.

Thanks for the help and the tips.

I want to create a pointer to NMC which Shimazu created in 1926 after bankrupting his first company. How would I do that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Krontach (talkcontribs) 23:16, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Do you mean you want to create a new article on NMC? Or a redlink? NMC just takes you to a dab page, so you'd probably want to do Nihon Motorcycle Company. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 23:24, 27 May 2011 (UTC)

Long distance riders

How do you feel about this? I'm leaning towards delete but with the advice to WP:WTAF. --Biker Biker (talk) 12:48, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Yes. I think there's potential there but it's got to have better sources. Looks self-published. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 15:49, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
To delete or not to delete, that is the question... I agree it looks self-published, but it would be cool to have some scooterists in the list rather than the usual motley collection of GS riders. --Biker Biker (talk) 16:15, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
There is now one decent source [3], which claims that Scooter World magazine has complete coverage. So I'd just delete all the links to blogs and forums and keep the Chattanooga newspaper cite. The rest of the list depends heavily on self-published works too, unfortunately. It is, after all, how long distance riders finance their travels, selling their stories. We should push harder for independent coverage. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 16:25, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
Just found Boston Globe obituary which adds weight to claims. --Biker Biker (talk) 16:43, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
Now somebody else will delete it because "a Vespa is not a true motorcycle". It gets old... --Dennis Bratland (talk) 16:51, 29 May 2011 (UTC)
Does it have pedals, is it steam driven, or does it have an Otto cycle engine? Was is the first true scooter? Perhaps it is a motor scooter cycle wheel. Pedants-R-Us :) --Biker Biker (talk) 17:00, 29 May 2011 (UTC)

Today, 29 June 2011, Heather Ellis included her details in the List of long-distance motorcycle riders. I just received an email advising my details were deleted. Can you advise why? My website www.heather-ellis.com/africa has been active since 1998. The world motorcycle travel expert Bernd Tesch can also verify that my journey took place. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Heather Ellis (talkcontribs) 04:49, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

See the notes on your talk page. Wikipedia does not publish original research: See WP:NOR. Material must be cited in independent, reliable sources. In addition, at the top of List of long-distance motorcycle riders it says the list includes only those with Wikipedia articles. Should you write a new article about yourself on Wikipedia? Wikipedia:Autobiography discourages that. Instead, independent books, newspapers and other media should first provide good source material, then somebody else will no doubt write about you. Please also read WP:COI. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 04:58, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Visible penis line

Hello Dennis Bratland, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Visible penis line, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not substantially equivalent to the deleted article; any argument for a redirect deletion will have to be done at WP:RFD. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 01:07, 15 June 2011 (UTC)

Our message board link

Hello Dennis. I had placed a link to our Kawasaki triples message board along with other links to similar boards. In fact, I am also a member at most of the other boards and friends with the people that run them. I am not sure why my link is considered advertising and the others are not? We are simply a message board that supplies information and help to other triple owners. There is no advertising there at all. In fact, our moderator Tom owned a Kawasaki dealership when the first triple was introduced in 1969 and he has a wealth of knowledge that he shares with others. I do not want to violate any rules, so could you tell me what I did wrong by adding our message board link to the list of others?

Thank you. H2 Brad (talk) 16:30, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

It's not a list of boards. It's a list of links that I *deleted* from the article almost two years ago. I copied the list to the talk page to be reviewed by other editors in case they wished to restore them. That's why I wrote "Below is the list of links deleted from the External links section." I should have taken the time to not include any forums, clubs, or boards because they are always inappropriate and keeping them was pointless. But I just kept the whole list as it was for convenience. The reason we don't link to clubs and forums is explained in WP:ELNO and WP:NOTDIRECTORY. An appropriate place to suggest a link to your club is http://www.dmoz.org/.

Moreover, you don't go to the talk page and edit other people's comments. If you wish to add a comment, it goes below. See WP:TALK. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 16:50, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Now I understand. Sorry for the mistake as I am new and still trying to figure out the site. Thank you for explaining it to me. :) H2 Brad (talk) 17:10, 16 June 2011 (UTC)

Your vandalism to the M-72 motorcycle article

You renamed the M-72 motorcycle article to Dnepr M-72. The Dnepr name was not used by KMZ until 1967, many years after the M-72 ceased production. The motorcycle was also made by other factories than KMZ. Kindly correct your vandalism and cite references in future. If you take the time to read the cited references youmight know a little bit about the subject. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.149.38.207 (talk) 14:33, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

I can't help it. I just love vandalism, OK? Is that so wrong? Vandalism has become a way of life for me, and defacing the M-72 motorcycle article is my greatest coup. I'm known the world over as the man who made a travesty of the M-72 motorcycle article. Mothers use my name to scare their children into eating their vegetables. Sometimes I feel like a god. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 14:45, 17 June 2011 (UTC)
Bratland, you are the king of vandals! I can only aspire to such greatness. --Biker Biker (talk) 17:24, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

Inquiring into Edit of JA Prestwich Industries

Hello. I received a notification that I'd made an unconstructive edit to JA Prestwich Industries with this IP address, but I've never seen that article before in my life. Could this be a result of a roaming IP address or something like that? I'm not very clued up in these matters. 94.10.129.13 (talk) 02:20, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Yes, that happens sometimes with shared IP addresses. Why not create an account? --Dennis Bratland (talk) 02:28, 18 June 2011 (UTC)

Hm. Not sure I have anything to contribute on that. --Dennis Bratland (talk) 17:22, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
Hi Dennis. Thank you for your comments. I have asked Tedder, who is an administrator, to be my "coordinating administrator," as he suggested. I suggested that he monitor me closely, and that I would consult with him before I did anything that I think might be inappropriate. I would not be particularly active anyway. I would like mostly to contribute photographs through Wiki Commons. Tedder has not yet agreed, saying he wonders if he might have a "bias." I told him that would not bother me. Indeed, it might make him more observant if he does. If I am allowed back in, I told Tedder to kill this particular Whoami_24, and that I would like to use one of the three user names I noted, all of which are non-anonymous. I like that about Citizendium -- there is no anonymity (I see you have become yourself). If I return as myself, I would encourage you, also, to monitor me closely and warn my if I do something less than kosher. I am aware that I deserved to be banned, and I think I know most of the reasons why. Jeff Dean. Whoami 24 (talk) 21:12, 21 June 2011 (UTC)
