Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Discospinster! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 2 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 937 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. Tara Oram - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL
  2. Martha Joy - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Tagging of Xtreme Jailbreak

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Xtreme Jailbreak. I do not think that Xtreme Jailbreak fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because "One of the biggest" may not establish notability but for a speedy the bar is lower, "any credible claim of significance". Take to AfD if you think this doesn't belong. Ther there is a chance to review and discuss the amtter.. I request that you consider not re-tagging Xtreme Jailbreak for speedy deletion without discussing the matter on the appropriate talk page. DES (talk) 01:51, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Hiya Discospinster, just letting you know that I've contested the prod template you added to John Greed, the reason I did this is because there are actually two independent and reliable sources: http://www.moneysupermarket.com/c/shopping/r/john-greed-design/41537/ and the press release. I think you must have missed the moneysupermarket.com source when you tagged the article as in your prod summary you said there was only the company's web site and press release.
If you decide to go on to a AfD I'd appreciate it if you could discuss the matter with me first, but don't feel obliged to.
Kindest regards, SpitfireTally-ho! 20:04, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

hmm, okay, there's also http://www.pressport.dk/pressroom/johngreeddesign/ and http://www.xomreviews.com/johngreeddesign.co.uk (www.xomreviews.com is verging on trivial coverage) I also found http://www.plimsoll.co.uk/industry-report.aspx?Industry=jewellery they're a organization that offers industry reports on the largest 1010 UK companies in the jewelry industry. If you look at http://www.plimsoll.co.uk/companies-in-report.aspx?Industry=jewellery&rt=ppa&Letter=J you can see that John Greed is included in the report, however, it costs £350 ($550), so I'm not exactly inclined to look at it!
Is this enough? I can probably find some more
Kindest regards, SpitfireTally-ho! 07:47, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
PS: thank you very much for getting back to me before AfD'ing the article, it's greatly appreciated. SpitfireTally-ho! 07:48, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

PCAtruth response to discospinster

I won't make any more edits or additions to the Peoples Christian Academy article. All I did originally was make changes to correct factual errors which you apparently missed. There are still factual errors in the article which I'll leave as I have a job and a life outside of Wikipedia. Perhaps you'd care to research ALL of the content for errors and omissions. This school is about to collapse due to missing or misleading info being disseminated from the current board to the stakeholders. Prior to my edits, the Wikipedia article provided wrong or limited factual information and so I suspect that you too are far from neutral as you did not seem to be bothered by this.

I certainly had an agenda. My agenda was to disseminate truth and fact. I thought that was in line with Wikipedia. I am close to the situation and my heart is breaking as I watch a great institution with a very promising future dissolve in front of me.

The article now fails to provide a complete and truthful picture for the benefit of current stakeholders and prospective students and benefactors.

Website

Hi there,

I'm trying to set up a wiki page, and everytime I do it gets deleted. Can you please let me know why this page is deleted?

Many thanks,

Chris —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.176.175.195 (talk) 15:20, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

Which article are you referring to? Do you mean 4Digital Media? If so, the reasons for its deletion are as follows: the first time, the article was written with a promotional tone, as if the subject was being advertised; the second time, you removed all the text, which usually indicates that you want it deleted; the third time, the article did not indicate how the subject was notable by Wikipedia's standards.
If you want to work on the article without fear that it will be deleted before you are finished, you should start it as a subpage in your user space (e.g. at User:Ariaspr/4Digital Media) and once it is ready you can move it into the regular article space. Please keep in mind that the article must indicate with reliable sources how the company is notable.
You should read the page Your First Article for more information. You can also visit the Drawing Board to get advice and opinions on the article you are working on. Hope this helps. ... discospinster talk 18:07, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

MP Hoofprint

Excuse me, the Myers Park Hoofprint is considered one of the leading school newspapers in the country. We've won the Golden Quill several times, and have a good chance of winning this year.

We have had several articles written about us by other newspapers. They exist, and should pass your significance tests.

Why are you telling me this? Was there an article I was involved in at some point? ... discospinster talk 15:11, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
Never mind, I found the article in question: Myers Park Hoofprint. It was deleted almost two years ago. At the time, all it said was "The Myers Park Hoofprint is a nationally acclaimed high school newspaper, currently under the direction of Editor-in-Chief Andy Thomason and advisor James Scott." There were no sources attesting to its Golden Quill wins, or that it has been mentioned in other newspapers, or any other indication of notability. If you want to try again, you have to make sure the article is properly referenced, because we can't just take your word for it. ... discospinster talk 15:16, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

The Haverford School; Nicholas Devine

I'm wondering what, exactly, drew your attention to the The Haverford School's page and, in particular, to the entry for Nicholas Devine under Notable Alumni. I might add that I don't fear your response; I simply seek the truth. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.185.151.218 (talk) 19:11, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

The article was on my watchlist due to prior vandalism. The entry for Nick Devine does not indicate why he should be included in the section "Notable alumni". It is not clear what "League champion" refers to. Is it the chess league? The football league? The League of Women Voters? We shouldn't have to send readers to do their own "Googling" when they read the article. ... discospinster talk 22:03, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

The League is the most prestigious entity to ever come out of The Haverford School. All graduates know what it means. That should be sufficient. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.196.173.20 (talk) 23:02, 23 March 2010 (UTC)

Does this league have any significance outside of the school? If not, it's not sufficient for Wikipedia. ... discospinster talk 02:30, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

Yes, The League does numerous charitable activities, is recognized throughout the country by having members in California, Pennsylvania, New York, and Delaware. League members will soon be in Connecticut and Massachusetts as well. Additionally, it hosts several events for members throughout the year, most notably its Winter Meetings. I'd be more than happy to send you over The League's bylaws as well as other official documents to validate the significance of this organization. Sincerely, Adam (Commissioner of The League) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.196.173.20 (talk) 04:21, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

You have to understand that what is significant at a local level is not necessarily notable for Wikipedia's purposes. You still have not explained what this league is and how one becomes a "champion" of it. All that I can gather is that it's an organization with members and it has meetings and does charitable activities. There are thousands of those, not to mention thousands of members of such organizations who have won some internal award or another. What makes it notable such that the name of this particular member belongs in an encyclopedia? ... discospinster talk 21:48, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

It is difficult for an outsider to comprehend what it means to become a "champion," as this fact has even eluded over half of the league's members. The champs guild (the exclusive group of people that have named champion twice) maintains that it takes a 'special kind of person to become a champion and, not having been fortunate enough myself to fully comprehend its meaning, cannot speak to 'what it means' to be a champion, yet someday I hope that I will be blessed enough so that I have the ability to describe it to you in great detail. I would be more than happy to have the by-laws committee chairman send over the the by-laws or perhaps you would like to speak with the commissioner emeritus or the winter meetings chairman or union chairman.

So basically the entry on Nick Devine is not suitable for Wikipedia. Now that we have that clear I trust that it won't be added back to the article. ... discospinster talk 00:14, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

However, there should be a posting on THE League. There are numerous random organizations that are on Wikipedia that wouldn't be mentioned in a normal encyclopedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.196.173.20 (talk) 00:27, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

If you want to mention "The League" as being of importance within the school, you can add that as a fact to the article. But it doesn't mean that those persons associated with it (even if they are "champions") are considered notable by Wikipedia's standards. Also remember that if you write about The League in the Haverford School article, it must be in a serious tone and not in the manner of an "inside joke". Some kind of reliable outside reference would also be helpful. ... discospinster talk 00:33, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your help. I will work on crafting a section on The League. It is the farthest thing from an "inside joke," so naturally, it will be in a very serious tone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.196.173.20 (talk) 00:55, 26 March 2010 (UTC)

Nick Devine

I understand your reasoning. But I'm wondering what, precisely, in this instance drew your attention to the entry, thereby prompting you to remove it. If you had been observing the page for vandalism for a while, then why didn't you remove the blatantly fallacious entry ealier? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 161.185.151.218 (talk) 12:46, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

The prior vandalism was blatant and did not require one to read through the article in order to determine that it did not belong there. I eventually read through the article and noticed that the Nick Devine entry linked to a person other than the one that was being described. The entry did not indicate how this particular Nick Devine was a notable alumnus. ... discospinster talk 21:51, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

Why did you delete most of the references (governmental and media) from this page? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bbagbygrose (talkcontribs) 18:45, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Louis J Cabri

Thanks for your advise, but I wonder which other references you want ? I think I have referenced it sufficiently. It is not my first article for Wiki, so I am familiar with how to write a biography. Furthermore it's my job as an arthistorian to write biographies (for the British Art Journal and the National Portrait Gallery London) and to research them BEFORE I write anything. If you look at my article about Henry Raeburn Dobson, or my article about Ghislaine de Menten de Horne, you can't say they are NOT sourced. So, tell me what else you expect so I can get on wit it and write another one, about a Canadian living ARTIST this time (my field). Best wishes Kunsthistoriker (talk) 14:22, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

LOUIS J CABRI

OK, you are right. I was thinking the same thing. He wrote so much it sounds like a resumé....I'll change that, but give me some time. I want to write a more interesting article about his wife, who is a ceramics sculptor in Toronto....her work is incredible : provocative and sexual and full of joy (a bit like Niki de Saint-Phalle). But I will first write it in word and then throw the whole thing into Wiki at once, so I don't get in these discussions anymore. But, give me your own "human" opinion at all times (I HATE electronic generated tags). Best wishes Kunsthistoriker (talk) 15:09, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Phi Gamma Delta

Referencing the Greek letter of Phi Gamma Delta is contradictory to other information on that page. You can't say that the letters only appear on 7 things and then put the letters on the Wikipedia page. That would make it 8. I've read that Wikipedia placed an image of the flag instead of typing out the letters. Why was that changed? It seems that everyone except you random people, who clearly don't know anything about this Fraternity, were perfectly content with having the image of the flag. Don't warn me that I'm vandalizing a page when you are. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.113.237.72 (talk) 00:45, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Regarding the repeated editing of article: Phi Gamma Delta

The reason for numerous edits of the page Phi Gamma Delta is due to the fact that the fraternity does not refer to itself by the Greek letters, considering this, writing the Greek letters on the page is spreading misinformation. A more accurate representation of the letters would simply be "FIJI" as this is what the fraternity is referred to as by its governing party.

The issue here is not the censorship of Wikipedia, but rather the spreading of false information about the fraternity Phi Gamma Delta. As Wikipedia is committed to delivering factual information the page should state "FIJI" as its letters.

Please reference Phi Gamma Delta's international website to see that the stated information appears no where on the organization's official site and therefore cannot be verified. The website is: phigam.org

—Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.113.237.87 (talk) 00:49, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Firstly, this has been discussed ad nauseam on the Phi Gamma Delta talk page. The consensus is to include the letters (not a "flag") to keep the article in line with the other fraternity articles. Secondly, the letters do appear on the official website here -- they appear three times, which contradicts your claim that it is only known as "FIJI". ... discospinster talk 00:55, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Other fraternity articles display the letters that are worn on lettered shirts, such as is tradition for many fraternities and sororities. Such being the case, the information on the wikipedia article is still incorrect. The letters should instead read "FIJI" or "Phi Gam"

The images found on the phigam.org website are images and depict items that the letters may be written on (per the article). Were an image placed on the page it would resolve this issue and not be contradiction of the factual information written on the page. Excellent job being so up on the reference though. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.113.237.87 (talk) 01:11, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

The article also states that the fraternity limits the display of the letters by members ("In accordance with the fraternity's international bylaws, Fiji chapters and members only portray their letters in the following seven locations..."). As Wikipedia is neither a chapter nor a member of the fraternity, the display of the letters in the article does not contradict the text of the article nor does it violate the fraternity's bylaws. ... discospinster talk 01:18, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I know; after all I am an art historian for already 35 years and published many articles about artists in different languages. I do NOT compromise, even if what I write doesn't always please the family of the artist or the artist him/herself. To reference modern living artists is sometimes difficult, because one has to rely on newspaper articles, magazines, gallery leaflets, and testimonies of the artist herself. And newspaper articles are not always to be trusted. Therefore we use comparative research documentation, were one document is critically compared with other sources. As you have seen in my article about henry raeburn dobson, such an referenced zcientific article can become quite lenghty. Tx for your input...Regards Kunsthistoriker (talk) 10:33, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

I came up with the idea stating that he has written over 200 articles on mineralogy and put the list in a reference note. So, nobody can say it is NOT REFERENCED. What do you think ? Kunsthistoriker (talk) 13:02, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

Tx for the advise...you're great....and YES, it looks much better. And tx for the advise on the edit summary item...I have NEVER filled it out in my life, maybe because I never really noticed it. One more question, because I get lost in the copyright issues. When I write an article about a living artist and she/he takes photographs of her/his own work + gives the authorisation to publish these photographs on Wikipedia, 1. can I upload these pictures and 2. where do I store the authorisation by the artist ? It must be verifiable that she/he gives her/his consent in order not to get any lawsuites afterwards....With the article about Ghislaine de Menten de Horne I couldn't publish any photographs of her work, because she might have heirs, who could claim a lawsuite against Wikipedia for infringement of copyright (even when I took all the photographs myself). I read the related guidelines about it, but its not clear to me. Kunsthistoriker (talk) 20:33, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

CYBERKILL

The importance of CYBERKILL it is the first title wherein transmedia is being applied to a story by a book publisher. Typically, these endeavors have been limited to motion pictures being extended into other media forms (i.e., alternate reality games) by Hollywood. With the barrier to entry being lowered by budget video, Flash games, and the like, it is possible for book publishers to introduce an extended experience around individual titles. As the first attempt, this should meet the criteria of notable.

This is a very new concept and the alternate reality game launches next week, so I'm not surprised that the number of web hits on this topic is minimal. I am happy to add links for the concepts to the article if that will help. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cmatney (talkcontribs) 17:27, 13 May 2010 (UTC)

If not, can you be more specific about what needs to be included? Cheers. Chris. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cmatney (talkcontribs) 19:14, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for correcting the name in the Kaminsky article. I created it on the basis of another article created a few hours ago and missed the name. Appreciate it. Tuscumbia (talk) 17:12, 14 May 2010 (UTC)

Want me to keep notifying you (as well as at AIV) or does it take up too much of your time to have to check here every time someone leaves a message & it's more effective just to take it to AIV? --Technopat (talk) 17:11, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
I don't mind either way. Usually though someone at AIV will get it, since despite appearances I'm not at my computer all the time. :-) ... discospinster talk 17:13, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Dynamic Stock Rotational System

Hi,

I noted that the first phase of contributions I and two writing collaborators are compiling is being considered for deletion. In as much as the information thus provided is accurate, unbiased, and fictionally stands alone (though notably brief); I would request your forbearance until the additional contributions have been integrated into the completed work.

confounded spell checker, the term was functionally, not fictionally. I save my fiction writing for OriginalPoetry.com. —Preceding unsigned comment added by WSSmithPHD (talkcontribs) 19:01, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Yes.

222.152.31.32 (talk) 07:22, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

The reason I reverted it is because you called them "backwards". That is not consistent with Wikipedia's policy of neutrality. ... discospinster talk 15:28, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your understanding. I was informed by an industry friend of Dio that he died, and saw my first confirmation - of course i wanted to get the news up there immediately. I do wish it was false... Best, A Sniper (talk) 07:06, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Wow! That is the first time I've ever made the news for an edit :) Fortunately, I just read a confirmation at blabbermouth.net stating that the editor (Borivoj Krgin) spoke with Wendy Dio in the last few hours claiming he is NOT dead...so we shall see. Best, A Sniper (talk) 07:11, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
In a bizarre turn of info, Dio appears to actually be dead - confirmed at his own web site as well as blabbermouth. The news has the talk page buzzing so maybe you want to release the protection and update. :( A Sniper (talk) 19:43, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Has disruptive behavior by the series of IPs related to Philipine Cable channels reached the point of requesting a rangeblock?

You recently reverted an IP for inappropriate removal of maintanance tags on Royal Cable‎ and a couple of other articles. While the initial personal attacks appear to have been toned down, ([2] and [3] for example) has the continued disruption across multiple articles by multiple IP addresses in the same small range (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Active_Banana#List_of_IPs_involved_in_this_discussion.2Fset_of_edits) reached the point that a request for a range block is in order, or do we hope that now that you are the third editor that has weighed in on the situation the IP editor might "get it" and begin editing appropriately? Active Banana (talk) 18:06, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

I have noticed in the past that there is a long-standing pattern of disruption to Philippines media articles. I don't think that whoever is doing this is ever going to "get it". I'm not opposed to an IP range block if it is minimally impairing. ... discospinster talk 18:17, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

User: Active Banana is not being fair. The user targets and singles out Philippine Media wiki pages which I consider a disruption to wikipedia and can be considered a racist behavior. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 143.166.255.62 (talk) 18:38, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of tribute band info on Evil Dead page

Howdy. You deleted my info about an Evil Dead tribute band in NY. I think it is of legitimate interest in, at minimum, the "Spin off section" of the main evil dead page -- there's a link there to a t-shirt page after all. Is the problem with the link to the band's myspace? Cheers. Curlytop11 (talk) 18:55, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Club Atletico River Plate (CARP)

You deleted my edit to the CARP page. The Fcat is that "las Gallinas" is a valid nickname for Club Atletico River Plate. Although it originated as a slur by rival fans it has come to be an accepted term for CARP. In fact, this nickname is even included on the "nicknames" section of the wikipedia article. I was simply adding the name to the info box at the top of the page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.203.59.252 (talk) 16:36, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

I assume you are referring to this edit? The page in question is a "disambiguation" page, meaning it directs readers to other related articles. The text that you added was not useful for directing readers to the appropriate article. Furthermore, large parts of it were copied from other web pages, which raises copyright concerns. If you want to expound on the meaning of Vishvarupa, you should write it in your own words, and in a way that will be understandable to readers who are not familiar with the belief system. ... discospinster talk 02:00, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
