Why are you deleting my links

You are deleting my links to a WFAN fan site, perfectly acceptable to post links to WFAN personalities with a fan site. So on what grounds are you deleting the link to www.mikefrancesa.com

You even deleted it at Mad Dog Chris Russo's page, it is a WFAN and Mike and the Mad Dog message board, so again, what grounds do you have —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 209.59.32.222 (talk) 11:52, 20 December 2006 (UTC).

You were adding the same link (for Mike Francesca and Mad Dog) to multiple articles, some of which were only tangentially relevant to the link — e.g. why should Don Imus' article contain a link to a Mike Francesca fan site? Please review WP:EL and WP:SPAM on effective use of external links. ... discospinster talk 14:49, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Discospinster, the website is a discussion of all personalities that broadcast on WFAN including Don Imus. If you want to get technical the site is more sports orientated and Imus is political but I can assure you Imus is discussed on the board. Any fan of WFAN radio would want to go to the site and have a discussion with other fans. I assure you it is relevant. You also deleted the link to Joe Benigno, Benigno is discussed many times on the website. Again the message board deals with all WFAN personalities.

So what is the deal. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.59.32.222 (talkcontribs)

Just because your web page mentions the personalities, it doesn't automatically make it an appropriate link. Lots of websites mention Don Imus. The point of the External links is to direct people to further information on the subject, not to encourage them to come to your website. From WP:EL:
Sites that are only indirectly related to the article's subject: it should be a simple exercise to show how the link is directly and symmetrically related to the articles subject. This means that there is both a relation from the website to the subject of the article, and a relation from the subject of the article to the website. For example, the officially sanctioned online site of a rock band has a direct and symmetric relationship to that rock band, and thus should be linked to from the rock band's Wikipedia article. An alternative site run by fans is not symmetrically related to the rock band, as the rock band has only indirect connections with that site.

-Dear Discospinster,

RE: Trevor Nelson Revisions

You removed all mention of our client on the "Trevor Nelson" wikipedia site, and cited only a false claim about inappropriate links. Just as your idolized Trevor Nelson the DJ has a right to be publically discussed, so does Mr. Nelson here in Los Angeles. As a fan of your DJ I see that you have left the link to his personal page but seem to have a vendetta against any other successful person that may share his name.

Trevor Nelson's (not DJ) achievements reach far beyond the scope of the UK disc jockey, he houses several thousand families and is currently active in nearly 1,000,000 square feet of ongoing urban development.

Admittedly we are unfamiliar with the proper use of wikipedia, but we feel it is unfair to simply wipe everything if you have a problem. In none of our revisions did we ever alter a single line about your dj friend. We intend to continue to add Mr. Nelson to the site unless you have constructive advice on how to better reach an agreement.

Sincerely,

Aaron Jones Public Relations, AJPR —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.116.122.90 (talkcontribs)

I would advise against re-adding your client's name to the Trevor Nelson article, as it could result in your account being banned from editing. Please see WP:NOT and WP:SPAM for information on what is appropriate for Wikipedia. ... discospinster talk 20:41, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

UNF vandalism

Hi, discospinster, I just wanted to thank you for reverting the recent vandalism to University of North Florida. As you probably saw on the history page, I've been battling this edit (and I suspect, the same user) for the last couple weeks. The IP seems to be slightly different every time, but it has to be the same person. Ugh! Anyway, thanks for pitching in. :) Maria 14:17, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Blanking own talk page

You know, you can actually blank your own talk page, even if it is covered in warnings. The consensus for Wikipedia:Removing warnings was a rejection, so per policy, blanking your own talk page can still be done. Diez2 00:37, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Timbalake

THANK YOU. Digg is first of all not a news source site in the sources sense, the artile Digg points to is the source, and Something Awful is a forum. I believe this will be changed many times. I will revert, you revert, keep this nice. One of us may get in trouble for three revert rule though.--WhereAmI 04:17, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

So I have done it 3 times already, hopefully I won't have to deal with the three revert rule. I have no idea how to see if an admin will lock it without going into the IRC.--WhereAmI 09:03, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
Yeah I had an admin semi-protect it. And I just noticed I called it Timbalake instead of Timbaland here. Shows how much I care...--WhereAmI 19:05, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

How to change a fixed redirect, how to link this with a new disambiguation

Hi. Thanks for your past redirect help. I have used your advise a few times. I created an article on Maximillion (fictional dog), the canine companion of Jamie Sommers, of 'the Bionic Woman.' However, entering Maximillion shifts the viewwer, by default to the rapper GZA. How would be be able to remove the default redirect to GZA, so that it would direct to the new disambiguation page: Maximillion (disambiguation)? Thanks.Dogru144 19:20, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. Your advice for the redirect did the job. Happy Saturday the 13th.Dogru144 21:15, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

Still baffled re fixing erroneous redirects

Thanks before for the tip that you wrote re correcting fixed redirects. But when I tried the following to correct the way off base redirect it looked like I was editing the article itself. Here's the erroneous redirect: mbila (southeast African xylophone) redirects to mbira.

mbira is a thumb piano. This is a totally erroneous redirect. So, when I opened the page that I reached with "mbila" it surely seemed that I was about to insert a redirect within mbira. To see an article on the real mcCoy on mbila, see the article I created, mbila (musical instrument). Here's what you wrote to mea a few months ago: Re:How to change a fixed redirect

When a search term redirects to a certain article, under the article's title you will see the phrase "(Redirected from XXX)". Click on the XXX link and it will take you to the page for the redirected term. You can now edit as usual and change the link to the target page. Hope this helps. ... discospinster talk 19:24, 13 January 2007 (UTC) Thanks. Dogru144 01:33, 15 February 2007 (UTC)

the IMDB profile has yet to be completed. I'm an intern with dreamworks and this is my only job right now, there will be an article i can tag from variety in the coming weeks but for now I've been assigned to just gague the publics reaction. —Preceding unsigned comment added by RonaldPeters (talkcontribs)

Trying to get it

I'm trying to digest what you said.

Did you mean that I'd click on the blue name for mbila in this case? If you click on that small link, you'll be taken to the page for the word itself, which you can then edit to redirect somewhere else. As I recall, that's what I did. But it sent me right back to mbira. When I was editing, it seemed that I was editing mbira. I was afraid that I was about to redirect mibira to mbila. But I'll check out Help:Redirect for the overview you recommended. Thanks for your assistance. Dogru144 15:27, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

AHLTA

Wow. I made my first contribution to Wikipedia yesterday. I checked it this morning and what do I find, someone had deleted the majority of the entry, leaving only some minor points on ease of use of the software. With that, it was proposed to delete the entire entry because Wikipedia "is not a how-to guide". How totally ignorant. Please do delete it, since it has been vandalized and I'm not going to fix it. It makes me wonder how it is that Wikipedia functions at all. What a shame and a waste of time.

Delete guidelines

Yesterday you marked the following article, Guidelines for plant disease articles for deletion. I am relatively new to Wikipedia and I'd appreciate it if you would explain why you did so. The template states that "How-to" guides for Wikipedia articles do not belong in main article space". Is the problem the location of the article in the main article space. If so, where should it go? I've noticed that Wikipedia has a "How to" cagetory, but I haven't seen any articles on how to create a how to article. Could you please point me in the correct direction. Thanks. Copyrighed text in the Darkwind entry

Hi. You recently cut a block of copyrighted text out of the Darkwind entry, and I got a kick out of it because that copyrighted text was actually written by me. Of course, I didn't post it and I fully support pulling it out of the entry, since it's not encyclopedic in nature. I only mention it because it's the first time that anyone's ever copy-pasted something that I wrote without permission - the first time that I've been on the other side of copyright law. I guess it's a sign that I'm moving up in the writing world, eh? Not a particularly big deal in the big picture, but it did make my day. --Korivak 04:24, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

I didn't think that speedy deletion was suitable because there is a chance for article expansion, or if not a deletion debate could determine that. Someone has said at the deletion debate that it is a "potentially an encyclopedic cultural phenomena", I thought that too so gave it a chance. Hopefully in the AfD people will try to look for sources and if there are none then it will get deleted/redirected. If I think there may be sources but I don't have the time/knowledge to find them I contest a speedy deletion. Hope that helps.--Commander Keane 02:07, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Deleted Article

Dear disconspinster,
I do see you're a pretty efficient contributor/fixer here in Wiki and well-recognised as well, but the article Interrelated Demand and Supply which you just deleted and redirected had additional information that was not present anywhere in Wikipedia at all, which focuses on the definition of the different types of relationships for complementary goods.

Of course the original stuff that i wrote on Interrelated Demand and Supply should probably go somewhere on Elasticity or Complementary Goods, but i wanted to provide more information without sullying the neat and organized data on those above two pages, so i'd created another page and hope someone tidies it up a bit and merges it with the other articles. Didn't expect it to get deleted though. I'm going to revert the original back and hope someone with better economic knowledge will come along and merge it somewhere, since I'm new at this wiki formatting thing. ballyjamesduff

i re-added that stuff about the town. It's all true and therefore shouldnt be removed.i did remove the end bit about links to random articles, and a bit mentioning the world cup, because that was nonsense. the rest is pretty much accurate though.

stop reverting the information about ballyjamesduff back. everything that's in that wikipedia article actually happened. Yes, it may seem silly, but it's all true. If you don't even know anything about ballyjamesduff, stop reverting it, because people from the town are having the true article entries repeatedly reverted!

Be careful with your reverts

Hey, be careful. In this edit you accidentally reverted correct information to vandalism. rspeer / ɹəədsɹ 08:29, 9 April 2007 (UTC)

I do not feel that the removal of this link based upon it not being a reliable source is justified with regard a page devoted to a centre of academia. Far from the content of the page being authored by present pupils and alumni of St. Ambrose College, content is rigorously checked by present pupils of the college and inaccurate information is removed. I cannot comprehend what could be a more accurate representation of the views of pupils than a page devoted to their expression, and furthermore why a link to this site is not eligible to be placed as an external link upon Wikipedia. I do not want to get into the habit of reverting posts based solely upon my views and therefore urge you to revert this page yourself and then initiate a discussion as to whether or not this link is valid. BenKov 23:44, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Just so that i can build up a proverbial 'rule of thumb', would an external link on the Princeton University page to a Princeton University pupils and alumni bulletin board also be illegal on Wikipedia?

Unfortunately, WP:EL is quite ambiguous and the link seems to fall into both 'What should be linked to' and 'What should be avoided'. I will therefore trust your better judgement. BenKov 00:02, 12 April 2007 (UTC)
