I already take pictures of post offices. See the Wikipedia articles for Fulshear, Guy, Needville, Orchard and Thompsons. You got to Beasley, Kendleton and Sugar Land before I did. I already have a photo of John and Randolph Foster High School and other Lamar CISD schools, but not George Ranch or B. F. Terry. I'll work on it. It's a fun hobby. Djmaschek (talk) 01:47, 29 December 2016 (UTC)
Thanks! Yeah, it's a great hobby to do! When I do it I get to see new places, and if there's a cool restaurant nearby I can stop by and have something interesting :) - There's Nigerian cuisine in Meadows Place, for example. There's also a cool donut place by Pecan Grove (though I haven't been there yet). WhisperToMe (talk) 10:55, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Since you've done Brazoria County too (specifically Sandy Point, Texas), is it okay if I add a few more?

  • Iowa Colony
    • Iowa Colony village hall: 12003 County Road 65, Rosharon, TX 77583
    • Meridiana Elementary School: 9815 Meridiana Parkway, Iowa Colony, TX 77583
  • Lakes of Savannah (unincorporated)

If you are willing to do Shadow Creek Ranch I can add that too! :) WhisperToMe (talk) 07:25, 1 January 2017 (UTC)

New ones for Quail Valley:

  • Lantern Lane Elementary School: 3323 Mission Valley Dr, Missouri City, TX 77459, USA
  • Quail Valley Elementary School: 3500 Quail Village Dr, Missouri City, TX 77459, USA
  • Quail Valley golf course: 2880 La Quinta Dr, Missouri City, TX 77459

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. Nominations and voting will take place on the main project talkpage: here and here. Thank you for your time. For the co-ordinators, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:35, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

User group for Military Historians

Greetings,

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

Disambiguation link notification for December 29

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Army of the West (1793), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Battle of Saumur (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 12:02, 29 December 2017 (UTC)

American Revolutionary War

I think you mean the Third English Civil War or the First American War of Religion :). It's great way of annoying my Boston Irish Catholic brother-in-law by pointing out his religion and ethnicity meant he would have been fighting for the Loyalists.

Thanks for the review on Cannon; I'm doing a project on late 17th century soldiers involved in the Jacobite wars (Hugh Mackay, Thomas Buchan, Robert Duncanson etc) so all input welcome. I've also rewritten Glencoe, 1745 Rebellion.

April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
  • updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

A barnstar for you!

The Original Barnstar
I am pleased to award you this barnstar for repeatedly going over and above what is required to assess others' articles. Your detailed and organised lists of how to improve articles have helped to keep me and many other editors on the right track. Your approach typifies what is best about the collegiate attitude of Wikipedia. We appreciate it. Gog the Mild (talk) 16:08, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

Many thanks for the detailed list of how to fix this article. I only came across it because it had copy edit tag on it - it was a real mess - and I was doing some work for GoCE. I had a copy of Rodger to hand and ended up all but rewriting it. So I dropped it onto the assessment page before moving on to the next copy edit. Which was sloppy, sloppy and just asking for someone to pick up on my lack of attention to detail. Which you did, but with a GAN level list of what was needed. If I work through all of it it may well be up to GAN standard. And all I wanted to do was a copy edit. I will make this my task for the week and will flag up progress on the talk page. Gog the Mild (talk) 16:33, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. Page archiving

Thanks for your prompt response. See Help:Archiving a talk page for help on how to archive a talk page. Use {{Archives}} for a list of archives at the top of your page in a box. I use the code below:

{{User:MiszaBot/config
| algo                = old(7d) <!-- the age at which to archive -->
| archive             = User talk:Username/Archive %(counter)d <!--where to archive-->
| counter             = 8
| maxarchivesize      = 100K <!-- the maximum size (bites) of an archive-->
| archiveheader       = {{Automatic archive navigator}}
| minthreadstoarchive = 1 <!--the minimum amount of threads to archive in a run-->
| minthreadsleft      = 5 <!--the minimum amount of sections to keep -->
}}

That's certainly not the only way to do it, but I hope this helps. Eddie891 Talk Work 21:21, 30 December 2018 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for April 22

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited M1841 12-pounder howitzer, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Alexander Macomb (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 12:09, 22 April 2019 (UTC)

Question

In approximately four weeks, we will open nominations for the Military history WikiProject coordinator elections. Have you given any consideration to running? You'd make a good coordinator, I think, and Lord knows we could use some new blood in the team. Think it over, and if you have any questions you can ask me or check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Academy/Becoming a coordinator. Sincerely, TomStar81 (Talk) 01:30, 1 August 2019 (UTC)

There is even a bit of friendly competition built in for those that like that sort of thing. Sign up now at Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/September 2019 Backlog Banzai to take part. Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations open

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are now open. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the coord team. Cheers, Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 02:37, 1 September 2019 (UTC)

2019 US Banknote Contest

US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here
