Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Turkey)

Hi. I was wondering if you'd be interested in setting up Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Turkey), based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). Now it's not a contest in itself, it's designed to motivate people to inspire others to improve content and build something which demonstrates the hard work going into the country which is visible. The focus is more on quality improvements but new articles are welcome too. Eventually a Turkish National Contest could be created to fuel it, like Wikipedia:Awaken the Dragon, in which contestants can choose to keep the Amazon vouchers themselves to buy their own books for more articles or put them into book fund to help editors further improve Turkish-related topics by giving them the books they want. It will begin though as purely an improvement drive. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. You took this hostile, aggressive act before any discussion and thus consensus could occur. I WILL pursue this to the highest Wikipedia levels. This is not your Wikipedia to run roughshod over others work. Again, I will pursue your aggression to intermediation by higher Wikipedia authorities.

You should first allow the discussion to happen, then allow the deletion to occur. I saw nothing in your message that indicates your personal authority to delete another person's work without any time of discussion and without any other parties' involvement for discussion. Mrschimpf, proceedings with Wikipedia authorities will be pursued

This matter is not settled. I am laying out below the six points of violations of due process and good faith discussion earlier cited in the page, Category talk:Classic TV channel. I still am going to appeal to higher administrative authority in Wikipedia.

I have six major objections of procedure:

I) There was no addressing me or no initial warning notice prior to the immediate deletion of the article.

II) There was no discussion of the present article prior to its deletion.

III) The destruction of the article argued that it "hasn't been added by any consensus." This is illogical. Consensus only comes after discussion. I have never heard of any rule dictating that there must be discussion prior to a consensus for creating a category.

IV) The destruction of the article was instantaneous, without any opportunity.

V) The destruction was committed based on a false claim. The destroying editor claimed that the category was empty for seven days. "This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and it is not presently under discussion at Categories for discussion, or at disambiguation categories."

This is false on two counts. a) It was created in the last 24 hours. b) It was filled within about two hours of its creation.

VI) The deleting editor deleted the article by contending that the name ("Category:Classic TV channel") had an inappropriate name. "And the category was misnamed; that was the only reason for deletion. Feel free to create it under an appropriate title." There is nothing in the title that has vulgar language or is offensive to any group. There is nothing in the deleting editor's statement indicating what was category again. Instead of opening a discussion (issue point #1 above), the deleting editor required me to repeat the time spent in creating the category under an appropriate title. This is a Catch-22. The deleting editor is empowered to delete; yet the editor never defined the parameters of acceptable.

Hi Dogru144. Just out of curiosity, was Harry Belafonte's father's background ever disputed? I see that you added two sources way back in 2008, where before there was a request for sourcs. However, since then, these have grown to 6, which is a bit odd for a snippet of information that is not controversial, and the talk page has no record of an edit war, which often lead to over-referencing. North Philadelphia

I hope my revert on North Philadelphia station didn't come across as rude, and I sincerely apologize if it did. Because the summer 2017 schedule has across-the-board service changes to account for Penn Station work, I don't think it's a representative accounting of normal service to North Philadelphia. It actually is an improper edit. The change does not com into effect until next Monday. This week shows the same schedule I cited: only two trains a day in each direction. The same is shown from the Amtrak site for September, after the construction. Please do research before reversing an edit. I will address your content concerns on the article talk page (though I might not have the time until later today). As to my identity:

I think we've interacted before, but if not then let me introduce myself. I've been editing under this same registered account since 2006 (the digits aren't a random IP), and I have the article watchlisted because I did most of the research for it, and I was the primary editor for getting it to GA status. As a side note: I recommend that all citations - especially to those like railroad timetables that tend to get taken off the web in a matter of months - use citation templates for their many advantages over plain URLs. My apologies on thinking you had a IP address name. I didn't notice at first the connection between Pi and the digits. It is not in good faith that you challenge the facts, then when data is provided you want the supportive data removed. You could at least offer to put up the new schedules. I didn't see any reference in your plan to remove the reference. Help with the National Memo article

Hi. I noticed that back in 2013 you made several edits to The National Memo article. I assume that you know this media (and the liberal press) quite well. The article has been undergoing dramatic edits and I ask for your assistance in editing/improving this article.

I’ve added some information following the structure of such articles as Salon (website), HuffPost, Politico adding infobox, improving categories and adding some well-referenced info. The article started to look like a normal website/media article. After that it got heavily edited in two waves by editors deleting large chunks of well-written (ok, my personal view :)) and well-referenced information. I believe that some of these edits/deletions are extraneous and actually make the article worse/less useful to Wikipedia users. I also believe that The National Memo article has an undisputable notability. There is an interesting discussion about this at the article’s Talk page.

A lot of what is going all around this article is plain nonsense. So if you are interested in the subject / in improving the article, please take a look at January 10th version or January 29th version. Per convention, when there are different trains with the same name, but operated by different companies, the reporting mark, the recognized abbreviation for the operating railroad, in this case 'LV' for the Lehigh Valley Railroad is used after the name, to differentiate between this train and two other trains serving Toronto and different end points (New York via the Hudson River in one case and Chicago in another case).Dogru144 (talk) 04:38, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

B&M schedules

Hello! Since you seem to have quite the collection of timetables, I was wondering if you could help me out with a couple questions. I'm trying to figure out exactly when service ended at three B&M stations around Boston:

East Everett still had minimal service in 1946, but was closed prior to the big 1958 cuts.
Somerville Junction was was approved to close in 1939 and doesn't appear on the 1946 timetable, but newspaper snippets from 1945 and 1947 indicate it may have still been a stop. It was definitely closed prior to the 1958 cuts.
Winter Hill had its station building closed in 1926 and demolished in 1934; it was probably closed as a stop sometime between then.

Pi.1415926535, These are tough ones. The B&M omitted several suburban stations from listings in reports to the Official Guide to the Railways. And I noticed in the index of the table that you linked that tickets were not being sold at them. There is the possibility that the stations were open only in an unstaffed fashion in the manner that several older stations are functioning in today's regional railroads.

East Everett had only one weekday & Saturday morning rush trip inbound from Newburyport in 1937, and one outbound evening rush trip to Lynn in 1937. (Sep. 26, 1937, Table 19) It already had lost its service by the April 28, 1940 timetable. Trains passed through on the Portsmouth branch without stopping.

That's a great resource you linked, the April 28, 1946 timetable. Check again, Table 32, on it. The trains bypassed the station on this schedule, as they did in 1940. It was Everett and Chelsea that had service. So, the sentence at the Chelsea station (MBTA), "By 1946, the station was served ...." is erroneous. There are multiple train stops for Chelsea, including on the Sunday schedule, the page after the weekday schedules.

The December 1957 Official Guide, B&M section, Table 6, shows one flag stop and five full stops on weekdays northbound, and eight full stops and one flag stop southbound for Chelsea. Everett is not listed; however, at the Index of Railroad Stations it indicates that the full timetable gives service for Everett; since Everett did not have the dagger mark for freight service, it too had service. The August 1958 Official Guide shows Everett and Chelsea as freight only stations. So, the massive service cuts in 1958 took down the Chelsea and Everett passenger service stops.

The 1956 timetable has this note of interest for many of the lesser suburban stations, Everett and Chelsea included (Table 13), with a diamond symbol: "No checked baggage handled or tickets sold at stations referenced. I've included the East Everett history on the Chelsea station article (currently SL, soon CR) since they weren't far apart; the Chelsea station history is on Bellingham Square station (current SL and CR). Chelsea and Everett definitely lasted till 1958 as you noted, but East Everett was axed sometime earlier. On the 1946 timetable, I see East Everett being served by #245 (4:05 pm out of North Station) and #208 (5:18 am out of Newburyport) - am I misreading it?
