It's even better than that, theleekycauldron. I've looked through last year's DYK archive and it was the non-lead hook with the highest hourly views for 2021. That is an outstanding result! It beat other non-picture hooks with saucy page titles like Napoleon's penis or Best Sex I've Ever Had. Hi @[[User:DrThneed|DrThneed], Thank you for your hard work to write Wikipedia pages for Kiwi women in science. I noticed that you updated the Wikipedia page about me to include a reference to my PhD thesis. Thank you - that is really helpful. In the same edit, I notice that you added my deadname (Isuru) to the top of the text. This was pointed out to me by a colleague who did some work to help me with my personal info online. I frequently receive hate mail from those who take exception to my work on gender, race & LGBTQ+ inclusion and equity in science. Lately, I have received messages and threats of spreading my deadname amongst my work colleagues. I want to reach out to you to point out that I changed my name legally via NZ DIA to Izzy in 2018. So, including my deadname is no longer accurate. My Alma Mater, University of Auckland has refused to update their records on my qualifications unless I bring the evidence of my ID to them in person - something that I cannot easily do because I currently reside in the U.K. Can I please ask that you correct the record on Wikipedia to reflect my current legal name? Thank you for your understanding.

@IJ64sz I'm so sorry to have deadnamed you (and I'm sorry Auckland Uni are being difficult about it, so that this thesis citation is even an issue). I've just amended the thesis citation so that it doesn't display the deadname, at least. @Schwede66 will be able to do a more complete removal in the page history than I can, if you are able to find a mention somewhere that he can use to justify it. Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.

      • Linked Data for Libraries LD4 Wikidata Affinity Group Working Hour November 20th, 2023: Over the summer and into the fall the LD4 Wikidata Affinity Group will be offering a series of Wikidata Working Hours to give folks an opportunity to try out various Wikidata-related skills and tools by assembling a data set of diverse library and information science (LIS) materials (articles, conference proceedings, books) and adding it to Wikidata. Wikidata Working Hours provide hands-on Wikidata experience in a supportive space. We hope you will join us if you are interested in learning more about Wikidata, exploring LIS literature, and have been looking for a fun Wikidata project to contribute to.     • We are taking steps towards making many more languages available in Lexemes and monolingual text statement values. (phab:T341409)
    • Nikki fixed a bug where the CSS class for a statement rank wasn't updated after a rank change (phab:T209138)
    • We are continuing the work on improving EntitySchemas by making it possible to link to them in statements.
    • We are migrating several tools from the Wikit design system to the Codex design system to be able to deprecate Wikit in the future.

    • Harvest Templates - is a tool that helps transfer data from Wikimedia projects to Wikidata.
    • User:MichaelSchoenitzer/Updown - is a userscript used for faster navigation. If there are a lot of values for one property it will add arrows that allow you to jump to the first/last value.

    • We are preparing for the Data Modelling Days happening later this week
    • Language codes:
    • EntitySchemas: We are experimenting with how to work around some technical blockers for the new datatype
    • Wikibase REST API: We've been working on the ability to remove an Item's label in a specific language and modify the descriptions on a Property (phab:T342981, phab:T342981)

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

    • ZotWb < export records in a Zotero group library to a custom Wikibase, prepare datasets to send to OpenRefine, feed OpenRefine reconciliaton results back to the Wikibase. Wikidata is envolved in the entity reconciliation.

    • Mismatch Finder: We are continuing the work on moving the tool over to the new design system Codex
    • We adjusted the styling for the values of monolingual text statements to make the language easier to distinguish from the value (phab:T280774)

The data from sources can be updated regularly, either for everything, or just changed entries (if the source has a "recent changes" equivalent).
    • Wikidata:Zotero/Cita - is a Wikidata addon for Zotero that adds citations (i.e., what other items an item cites) metadata support to this open source reference management software, using cites work (P2860) information available from Wikidata, and enabling users to easily contribute missing data.

Upcoming Event in Auckland[edit]

You might be interested in an upcoming event in Auckland. Wikimedia Aotearoa is having a WikiCon! WikiCon Aotearoa 2024 is the annual gathering for all new and experienced editors of Wikipedia, Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikisource projects. Anyone interested in editing is welcome to attend. This conference is organized by Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand (WANZ). It aims to provide training to new editors, to encourage editors to learn new skills, to grow the Wiki community in Auckland and to ensure that we have a fun weekend. Food and refreshments provided.  

When: Saturday 23 March - Sunday 24 March 2024

Where: Auckland University of Technology - Sir Paul Reeves Building - WG Building 2 Governor Fitzroy Place, Auckland.

Francisco Hernandez (politician) moved to draftspace[edit]

An article you recently created, Francisco Hernandez (politician), is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. User:Villian Factman saw fit to publish the article, erroneously stating that Hernandez is an MP having succeeded Shaw. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Yeah I saw they'd moved it and was a bit surprised. I haven't seen anything definitively saying Hernandez will replace Shaw or when, so I guess we wait for something to appear and then we can cite and publish the article (with whatever other edits are needed at the time).
