Kiel McNaughton(born April 1978) is a New Zealand actor currently working on New Zealand soap opera Shortland Street[1].

Early life[edit]

McNaughton is of Scots, Māori and Chinese descent. [2] He was raised in Manurewa, Auckland and attended James Cook High School[3], he began acting in his last year of college with he starred in his school musical.After briefly trying his hand at architecture,decided to follow his dream and become a full time actor and enrolled at the Selwyn College of performing arts. After a year there he added to his experience with a Unitec Bachelor of Performing Screen Arts, he graduated in 2001.

Career[edit]

He runs a production company with his wife Kerry, Kiel has also done stunt work for Power Rangers,Shortland Street and the New Zealand film River Queen. Kiel and his family recently moved back to New Zealand from Papua New Guinea where they had been living for the past eight months. Before getting the role of James "Scotty" Scott in 2007 he had previously auditioned for the roles of Nelson Copeland and Mark Weston.

McNaughton acted in the 2005 feature suspense/horror film (digital video) Hidden. [4] [5]

McNaughton's ancestry, couple with that of his wife, Kerry, who is Scots/Papuan[2] led the couple to journey to China, Scotland and Papua New Guinea to discover their heritage. The result was a documentary, Family Ties which screened on New Zealand television in August 2007[6].

Personal life[edit]

In March 2003 he married Kerry Warkia, they now have 2 children a son Apeal (born:2004) and a daughter Vavaki (born:June 2006).

His cousin, Harry McNaughton is also a member of the Shortland Street cast
