It's almost like releasing a restricted free agent from being restricted in a way. It's the same with the franchise/transition tags. When Corey Simon was with the Eagles, they applied the franchise tag to him after the 2004 season. He wasn't happy with it and the Eagles lifted the tag before he signed it (here). • Hey Eagle, you probably already did, but checking the history of this user's talk page is instructive. They have a tendency to blank their talk page, esp. vandalism warnings (there's a nice collection of 'em there). Also, you may respond to them, but seeing as they have for instance been told a dozen times how to sign their messages, there may not be much of a point. Re. ANI on Civil War

Capture of Tucson clearly did occur in 1862, the city changed hands. The fact is presented in all accounts of Arizona's history (cf. Tucson: The Life and Times of an American City By C. L. Sonnichsen [1] page 61 ...), but is it worth of a separate article besides History of Tucson, Arizona ? no comment on other "hoaxes" mentioned. East of Borschov (talk) 02:46, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Deleting NFL team articles

I don't know why, but that kinda makes me angry. Anyway, I don't get it. I was allowed to create a page for Herb Donaldson when he was on the PS. I started a discussion about that in November (here), and nothing was really changed. Right now there is an RfC about WP:ATH at WT:BIO, but it's such a long thread and I have no idea what the result is/was. Participate there if you want to debate the PS players, but the guidelines are pretty lenient right now in regards to NFL requirements. Is there a reason why you changed |currentposition=Linebacker to |currentpositionplain=[[Linebacker]] here? Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. --bender235 (talk) 10:20, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

Pretty much the same reason you removed the |finalyear, |finalteam, |deathdate and |deathplace fields. It makes no difference to the appearance of the infobox and we both just have different preferences on how the infobox should look code-wise. There is one major difference between what you did and what I did. My edit reduced the amount of code, by deleting parameters that would've been void anyway, while your edit replaced a standard parameter with the longer work-around version, which—sorry for repeating myself—makes no sense at all. --bender235 (talk) 22:19, 27 April 2010 (UTC)

The currentposition thing allows for the position to be potentially pipe-linked if necessary or to have two positions listed at the same time. If the player were to be an RB at the beginning of his career and then get a shot at being a kick returner it saves time if that happens. And since the result is the same either way it's not like it's crystal balling to use the |currentpositionplain= format.

The |deathdate stuff is there to be filled in when the player retires or potentially dies. These fields also sort of serve as "free promotion" for the fact the NFLactive now handles retired players and coaches.

That's the best way to describe it and the only reasons I can come up with for why the majority of NFL editors (including myself) do it. Cheers,--Giants27(Contribs|WP:CFL) 02:45, 28 April 2010 (UTC)
