Thanks for the invitation to enroll in CVUA, though having read its page I'm not sure what enrolling would involve. I've read the policies it mentions already. I do not plan to become a vandal hunter. My aim is to improve article content, but when in the process of this I come across vandalism I do revert it.

While anyone is welcome to make constructive comments at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism, there is a danger that your use of the {{AIV|ns}} template in this edit might give the impression that the edit was made by an administrator who had assessed the report and come to a conclusion. Yes, it's one of those things that doesn't actually break any rule, but that can sometimes be unhelpful. I don't know about what happened the last time, and whether I would have objected, or, like Elockid, would have accepted it: it rather depends on circumstances. However, on the whole I think it's safer to avoid the issue. Generally speaking, whether a comment on an admin noticeboard comes from an administrator or another editor doesn't matter, everybody is welcome to comment. However, closing a case, as opposed to just commenting, should normally be done by an administrator. On most admin noticeboards, a closure is indicated by putting the discussion in a box, or by announcing that some administrative action (such as blocking an editor) has been taken, so there is no ambiguity. However, the vandalism noticeboard works differently. Unless the user reported is blocked, then the only sign that the case has been dealt with is an administrator's comment, and so it helps to keep closing admin comments looking different from non-closing comments, whether from admins or from other editors. RfA !voters often look for a wide swath of namespace edits, and it seems you've made exactly one. !voters may say, for instance, that this demonstrates a lack of desire to write an encyclopedia and no desire to work cooperatively with others. If anything, your lack of Content Creation may be damning (as well as the fact that, by September, you'll only have 5 months of real 'active' editing). I would get my feet wet with creating a new article, going through DYK, trying to get it audited, etc. This isn't just "this way it'll be easier to pass RfA" but more "this will give you the experience of a content-creation editor and be an asset to you as an Admin." In response to Achowat: Before I was involved in counter-vandalism, I just edited articles. That is my only non-deleted article talk contribution because all of the other ones (including that one) were explaining to new editors why I had tagged their articles for CSD. They were all deleted (for the reasons why I tagged to articles for CSD), except for this one (I didn't put the CSD tags up originally, rather Timsticks removed another user's CSD tags and I explained why I reinstated the CSD tags, but an admin declined the request. (edit conflict) I think that the number of edits is a little irrelevant. I've seen users with 30K+ edits that have failed an RfA. The important is (apart of what Achowat said, which is totally true and important either) the knowledge of the policies, behavior, content creation and involvement on all the fD's, DYK, FA, GA and not from anominator standpoint but on an overall basis. Participating on discussions is key to the success of an RfA, because it means you can actively work and debate with other usres on how the encyclopedia works, the way policies might be applied, etc. At the end, usually all that participation gives you a lot of edits. It is [very] important to note that a lot of automated edits vs. few manual edits works against the user on RfA's for what i've read on past nominations. —Hahc21[TALK][CONTRIBS] 20:47, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

I highly recommend that you keep the trend and make +1000 edits per month, mainly on the article namespace. As of today, you've made 2,888 edits, and only 1011 (36.86%) on the main namespace. Also, you have an impressive UPD (unique pages edited): 2,058; which means that 71% of your edits have been made on different pages. This could work in favor or against you, since that also means that you're not a dedicated user on content creation. A problem could be that 63.64% of your edits (in numbers: 1,838 edits; 832 in Twinkle – 1006 on STiki) are automated. Hahc21 brings up a good point. While I mainly do anti-vandalism and CSD work (both use Twinkle, and by the way, they are administrative-related functions that will look good on my RFA), I have also contributed significantly to articles such as Long Beach Police Department (New York), Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport, Columbia Regional Airport, and Woodmere, New York. These are all very small articles that could use some cleanup and major revision. I edit these articles when I have time, but I feel that editors care more about me reaching 7K edits then expanding those articles. Unfortunately, that is what is accepted today, but it shouldn't be that way. Hi Electriccatfish. I have seen your name popping up at various places and thought I would chime in on a few things regarding the pursuit of the admin bit that I am not sure anyone had brought up yet. If you have a chance please take some time and read up on many of the RfAs that has passed and failed from the past 2 years. You will hopefully see the trends that take place at RfA in regards to what voters are looking for, both in positives and negatives. I believe every question of when you will be ready and what you should do and not do is readily available, contained on those pages. Also be careful of over-asking and addressing the timelines of when and if you should run. Things like hat collecting, status seeking, and checking off the boxes tends to come to mind (see prior failed RfAs). One should be able to show that they have the clue of knowing when the "need" for tools will help them assist the encyclopedia and community further, not about how the editor did the "required number of edits" to xfd, or wrote x amount of articles. Please think in depth about, not just why editors look for certain things; the things like TParis brought up in your review and the things you think you need to do (ie time on site and number of edits), but rather why. When you can answer these and find that the contributions in the areas you are working in would further benefit the Encyclopedia and community with use of the bit,; along with how, when, and when not to use it, then I feel you will be ready. Is notable but does not explain notability.
Can you explain what you mean when you say that an article is notable but does not explain it's notability... This is appears to be circular reasoning to me...
Annexations: Cities in this province can turn land in another city into their own land. This can only be done through the MGB, as the article explains. Does this not help explain the notability?
The MGB was created when three former boards were amalgamated into one. This significantly changed how taxation, land use, and planning was done in the province, as stated in the article. This warranted coverage by The Canadian Press, also stated in the article. Does this not explain notability?
Additionally, I would think that the 'Jurisdiction' section is fairly self-explanatory as to why the MGB is notable.
I'm having a really difficult time understanding how the conclusion has been drawn that the MGB is notable, based on the sources included in the article, but that it is not explained... I apologize for any obtuseness I am displaying here, this may be a case of 'missing the forest for the trees' as User:Media-hound-_thethird suggested in relation to the reasons for which the first article was rejected. Though this appears to be something different.
The Alberta Government is a notable figure, but the article just explains about the history and makeup of the government, but doesn't explain why it is important, and therefore, it was declined. Please fix it up and re-submit it when it explains the notability of the Alberta Government, and then I (or another reviewer) will accept the article. Thank you. I'm afraid you've misunderstood the subject of the article. This is not about the Alberta Government. It is about an administrative tribunal, existing as a part of the executive arm of the state, which is delegated government powers. This is now contradicting the earlier statement that this article was rejected because of notability concerns and that it would be approved upon satisfaction of said notability requirements. A new issue has now been raised regarding the subcategory that already exists within a different article. However, Wikipedia Guidelines state that "If no suitable articles already exist orthe subject has enough depth for an article of its own then you need to start a new article." Does this article not have enough depth for an article of its own? I would suggest that it does, and I would also suggest that incorporating it solely within the Alberta Municipal Affairs article would not only imbalance that page, but it would also run counter to Wikipedia guidelines.Timothin (talk) 20:02, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

Earlier today, you reveiewed my articles for creation for Henne Jewelers. You rejected the article because you said a small family owned business is not notable. I was wondering why a 125 year old business is not notable especially when it has over 800 people attending its events? (As noted in the article) Also the fact that it is family owned and small shouldn't make a difference, should it? Instagram had only 13 employees...I understand its not the best comparision... There are 2 types of students that come to the CVUA:
Type A This student comes to learn about the basics of vandalism: Identify, Restore, Warn, and Report. They are typically graduated after getting rollback.
Type B This student has rollback already, but would like to learn how to use Huggle or Igloo better.

I doubt that it was an article on another WP - it was a copyvio of a website article... It's always a good idea to drop a lump of Foreign things into Google. If it's already somewhere else, it'll show up. If not, you might find it (as I did) somewhere else altogether - a copyvio. If it's neither, you can usually work out the language this way too, and look clever by tagging it 'translate|Upper Slobodian' or whatever the language is, or by getting a look into it at Google Translate and possibly tagging it spam... (I spotted this one was Albanian, but I've been at it longer and can spot the 'this must be Upper Slobodian because no other language has "qx" in it as a word' things.) I opposed per WP: SNOW. He only has 1K edits (I now have over 3K). It was also closed for WP: NOTNOW. I was confident when Lord Roem was doing well in his RFA, but then he closed his own RFA. I don't really think The Determinator knew what he was doing when going for an RFA. I have looked over some previous RFA's, and most of them have 20K-30K edits (Yikes!). I comment in AFD's, and tag articles for CSD, so the deletion part is also covered. Lastly, I work in AFC's, but I haven't created any articles, and I need your help for that. That's good. This is the way i work on content creation: I chose an article related to a topic i like the most. I start to expand it step by step until it is at its most. Sometimes, it can take up to 300 edits on a single article, such as Ricardo Arjona discography, which i created and had edited 327 times (and counting)... I think that anti-vandalism is my niche, but I would love to get involved in creation. The only thing tat I dislike is that you only get noticed when you mess up, not when you do the right thing, and your user and talk pages always get vandalized (my userpage is semi-protected). Yes. That's right. You only get noticed when you mess up. I think that all articles i create or expand are part of my life as a Wikipedian. I know i don't own them, but a part of me is attached to them; they're a project that came to life through my hands, and when you see that content awarded with GA or FA status, the satisfaction is incredible. Also, I try to work on articles which were created and are mostly mantained by me; or some little fixes on other articles. I always add information that is sourced and never (yeah, never) touch articles which content is controversial (such as elections, politics, or prominent artists) unless i have good neutral information on hand. —Hahc21[TALK][CONTRIBS] 22:17, 15 June 2012 (UTC)
I get the same satisfaction when a user I report gets blocked (I have a 100% accuracy record, in over 60 reports), or when a page I CSD gets deleted. When people come here to read articles, they see your contributions, but they don't see my "behind the scenes" work. Same in AFC's. One of the things that I liked about my editor review is seeing that people actually notice my work and I appreciate that. (ec) I reached 15,000 (of which 5,000 had been deleted) in about three years, without using any tools other than rollback a few times and the review thing which is currently out of fashion (and which I never really got my head round before they dropped it). Don't appear anxious to get the mop. Don't appear as though you couldn't care less. The mop (and the bucket) have to be necessary to what you do. I didn't apply - I was picked up and asked if I'd thought about it. I said 'yes, but not seriously'. I'm not holding myself up as an example to follow - I never fit the standard specification - but I've watched and taken part in a lot of RfAs. RfA is like Catch 22. You want to be an admin - you're power hungry. You don't care - you're not going to be any good. You create loads of content - why do you need a mop? You create only two articles - you need more content creation. You use humour - you can't be taken seriously. You take everything seriously - you need to lighten up a bit. You answer every opposer - you're badgering. You keep quiet - you're not addressing the concerns raised. Get the picture? There is a number of people who oppose almost everybody at RfA. They do a good job in testing the stress factor of the victim. Others work in other ways. Look at the questions posed by Keepscases. I like to see the response to his questions. They may appear quite surreal at times, but they should be answered as they are asked, and not ignored or dismissed as rubbish. But when all comes to all, it's you that's sitting in the black chair. No-one can be trained to be an admin, not like aircraft pilots or doctors. I'm going to bed. With a couple of doughnuts or a cinnamon whirl. I revised the edits I made prior to reading the unhelpful-edit template, so the article still might have a problem. (I deleted the redundant addition, but the article still has other changes I made: adding information about the trial date to the appropriate area, with the HuffPo reference, and retaining the allegations of intimidation from Voice of Detroit.) I'm going to read up on some of the links provided before I do anything else on Wikipedia, and get a username. Thanks!

I am Histmodbiomed. You have rejected my Wikipedia entry for the History of Modern Medicine Research Group on the grounds of "copyright infringement". This seems to be due to it containing references to the Group's website, which I also created. Thank you for taking the trouble to respond. I would appreciate it if you could take another look at this. You will find that the article has already been substantially rewritten. As mentioned previously, I am the author of both resources, and only have so many words at my disposal! Therefore there will inevitably be some slight overlap. This is a valuable resource for academics and students of the history of C20th medicine and would make a valuable addition to Wikipedia in a subject area of which there is relatively little available currently.

I am a bit surprised by your comment that my proposed article on Dr Joseph Lalor has 'no verifiable sources' when it is based on two journal articles, a book, and five newspaper reports. Just because articles and newspapers don't have URL's doesn't mean that they are not verifiable. This article is very soundly based. What also makes Dr Lalor interesting is he was part of an extended family that made a rather large contribution to Irish life. If the British Journal of Pyschiatry is not 'verifiable' I really wonder what is.

Thanks for your editing of my article, Village Renewal.
To improve its reference, I have included an EU document that recognizes Village Renewal as a rural development program and policy in Europe. I have also included a link (in Wikipedia German) describing the same as Dorferneurung (German term for village renewal). Don't you think this helps in improving the article, considering the concept is German in origin and texts are not abundant in English literature?

Actually, it has nothing to do with the test. You are not guaranteed rollback, but all of our students graduate with it, plus we have an administrator who is also an instructor for us that grants rollback to all of our students. Hi there, Electriccatfish. As promised, I have reviewed your edits regarding a possible RfA; I'm not too sure that an RfA in September would be a good idea. You are certainly a good editor - you have done a lot of good things and certainly have enough experience; however, there are a few too many occasions where you seem not to quite understand some nuances of Wikipedia policy. These are my thoughts (I will emphasise the problems - that's not to say that you don't do good work, but it'll be more helpful to you if I focus on what could be improved:
Though you generally make good comments at AfD, there are a few occasions which are a cause for concern. Here, you're proposal for a speedy keep isn't quite in line with our criteria for speedy keeps. Your comment here is a bit thin - you assert that the sources are unreliable, but don't explain why. Again, here you assert that an article is notable without anything to back up your claim. Your non-admin closure here was a bit hasty - you should have withdrawn the nomination, rather than speedily keeping because the article met WP:BAND; meeting a notability criterion is not a reason to speedy keep but an unopposed withdrawal is. Another editor had to clean that up for you.
I'm not quite sure what you mean here. You seem to suggest a cool-down block, even though you know that cool-down blocks are not helpful. You would certainly have to explain that at RfA. That whole incident could have been handled better, to be honest.
Minor point, but you don't often use edit summaries when editing articles - some editors see this as important and might even oppose over it.
You don't have a great deal of content creation or dispute resolution work, without which many editors would oppose you over. It might be worth spending some time improving articles or helping with dispute resolution - perhaps bring one or two to GA?
You might take into account some of the comments at your editor review as well.
In summary, I think that you're a great editor and one day will make a great admin. Having said that, there are a few issues which need resolving - that will come with experience, more than anything else. If you submitted an RfA in September it might pass, but it would be far from certain. I would suggest waiting till around January, and spend that time getting a lot more experience in the areas you think you would work as an administrator. You might also find it much easier to get your CVUA up and running successfully without the distraction of other administrative duties. If you come back to me in January, I'd be willing to re-review your contributions and consider nominating you; in the mean time, keep up your good work. Yes, the AFD's need some work. I will be emphasising this over the summer. Please note that those !votes and (non-admin closure)'s were from the start of my experience at AFD. I actually should've re-listed it instead of closing it and withdrawing my nomination.
I thought that a block was in order because he personally attacked Riley on the CVUA talk page, but Riley made it sound like he wanted a cool-down block, which was against the blocking policy.
I am having my first CVUA student, Hahc21 be my content creation coach. He is helping me with DYK's and GA's, also.
I actually intend as an admin to focus on anti-vandalism work. It's very annoying to see someone constantly vandalize pages while your report has been pending for over an hour at AIV.
I only include edit summaries when making subtle changes to articles or templates.

Feedback (you asked)
1. Get some real content creation done. Even if you just do it "for a rotation", it will make you a more thoughtful admin. Leaders who have never done the real work are a turnoff to content contributors. It will deepen you. Serious.
2. Don't do "recent changes" vandalism reversion. The problem with that whole concept is you end up reverting edits in articles you don't know much about (and making boners...they all do). Instead develop articles and areas of interst and just revert via your watch list. This sort of fits in hand and hand with (1).

Things to avoid
Leaving a warning for a user that hasn't edited for six hours should be avoided. Our aim is the cessation of disruption; if the user has stopped then no purpose is served by leaving a warning. Additionally, this particular user had already been brought to the attention of administrators so the warning was superfluous. The reason I did it is because I know Fineuser outside of Wikipedia (in real life-I live near him) and we were arguig about something else the day before I did it. every one of the sources cited is reliable and verifiable. Although #'s 1, 7, and 8 are affiliated with the newspaper itself, the rest are certainly independent and verifiable - including NPR and a college newspaper, amongst others; the cites affiliated with the paper itself are merely secondary. what more is needed to establish notability? i've seen dozens, if not hundreds of WP articles far more spurious than this, even as it stands.

I think that's it's good to have both rollback and non-rollback students. The people who have their request denied come here to get rollback, and the people who get rollback come here to learn how to use tools such as Huggle, Igloo, and STiki. I'm not sure what one edit has to do with the other, but there was indeed an (unnecessary, IMO) reference at the time, from the infobox after the "tz database" I believe, which was a ref back to the page by that name. The whole page is reformatted and calculated data from the pages to which it wikilinks (the tz database and the 15° time zones), so I'm not sure exactly how to reference it, but I'll see what I can do. It's part of a collection of time-related articles that is a work-in-progress, which keeps getting stalled by people deleting and editing pieces of it. I'm afraid I think I was a more bit dismissive of your comments at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism than I should have been, and I hope you can accept my apology. I am so used to seeing things on Wikipedia the way they look if you are logged on as an administrator, that I forgot that many edit filters are invisible to ordinary users, so you would not have actually seen the offending edit before making your report. I have now tried logging in to my non-admin alternative account to see how it looks to ordinary users. I see that the edit filter that said "Possible spambot" is invisible to ordinary users, so you would have no way of knowing that it was a false positive. However, if you are interested, you can actually see the attempted edit, because another edit filter caught the same edit, and this one is publicly visible. (Don't ask me why some edit filters allow ordinary users to see the edits they catch and some don't.) The attempted edit is here. My guess is that you will agree that it is vandalism, but not spam. (If by any chance you don't agree, please feel welcome to tell me why.) Once again, sorry for what I now see as a rather dismissive response to your AIV report, which was not helpful. Yup. Another editor moves the hook into a "queue" so then it can be featured on the main page. When the hook appears on the main page, you'll be noticed with a message on your talk page. I have a question for you. I am a little confused as to why I can not be listed as an alum of Hendrick Hudson High School. I am the author of seven books and the editor of the Journal of Film and Video. On top of that, the research of my book, THE PRIME TIME CLOSET: A HISTORY OF GAYS & LESBIANS on TELEVISION, is used extensively throughout Wikipedia as is information from my other publications. What exactly is the criteria for listing the name of an alum of a unknown high school? Does the person have to be an actor? an athlete? etc.?

Please WP:Assume clue. I pointed out that he was a socking troll, and provided evidence even though it was beyond clear comparing the two IPs contributions. The latter IP placed a blocked template on my talk page. Warning him is only feeding a troll and absolutely useless. AIV request
Hi Electriccatfish2 - I see on your talk page and on AIV that you have self appointed yourself as a "clerk" for AIV. Although I admire your enthusiasm and desire to help out, I believe that the idea of traditional clearking of the page is counter-intuitive and actually bogs down the process. The page serves a very specific purpose which is to act as a venue for editors to report clear vandalism and spam for administrator review in as clear and quick a format as possible. Adding traditional clerk icons and "endorsement" comments does nothing to improve or speed up the process. Actually, I first saw NTox doing it. I then asked Tide rolls, who told me that there was no official position and I could do it if I wanted to. I'm supposed to identify problems in the report, such as that the user has not been warned sufficiently, the user has stopped vandalizing. You're right that the Clerk endorsed templates mess up the page, so I won't use them anymore, but Tide rolls told me it's fine. Also, the bot often doesn't remove blocked users quickly. Non-admins are of course allowed to provide input on the page (especially if they have unique knowledge of the specific case in question), but any admin who responds to the AIV report will need to fully review the history of the reported user or IP regardless of your comments there. It's simply redundant for you to check each report and comment when the responding admin will need to do the same background checking. I'm not really knowledge about that tool. Given WP:CENSOR, my first instinct is to guess that Wikipedia would not hide them, but then again, the fact that it has a "Flag as abuse" function might indicate otherwise. Permission participation
Hi Electriccatfish2, I noticed this comment from you on a recent permissions request. While I don't want to discourage you from commenting there, I would like to point out that "endorsement" comments are not recommended for two reasons: 1. they are not helpful for admins who review and approve/decline the requests (no admin will skip making their own review just because someone endorsed; also, a comment such as "looks good to me", something similar to that, or the agreement of that type of comment don't give any insight into why someone should receive a particular userright), and 2. a request for rollback, reviewer, etc. is not a request for adminship, therefore "votes" to support/oppose people are counter-productive and risk turning requests into "mini-RfAs". Also see this thread, which covers much of what I'm talking about, and this comment from me recently.
This all being said, if you find a reason why a user shouldn't receive a particular userright, such as bad reverts for someone requesting rollback or the creation of unsourced pages for someone requesting autopatrolled, that sort of input is definitely welcomed and very helpful, but if there's nothing wrong with a request, nothing needs to be said! :) I hope this wasn't harsh...it's not meant to be a warning, just a note! (talk page stalker) There's a difference between an early closure and one done after a full listing. In terms of early closure, there's also a difference between WP:Speedy Keep and WP:SNOW keep. No, WP:NAC doesn't have to be unanimous merely clear keep, but that's after a full listing. You could argue that it was snowing, but please be aware that "an uphill battle is extremely difficult but potentially winnable". Hi Electriccatfish2 :), Just wanted to tell you that once a user account has been making only disruptive edits and is known to be a vandalism only user account, no extra final warnings need to be given to be said user as it becomes meaningless then. Like [1] the last warning given wasn't required at all as they have already been given a last warning by you and a level 4im warning by me :) and it is now definitely known to be a vandal only user account. I think we're pretty cool at this point. I am less of the mindset that TIW is going to do deliberate harm to wikipedia, and in so much as I have insinuated that I apologise to TIW. I do still suspect he lacks the maturity to contribute here (and furthermore that it was this quality in his edits that falsely set off my troll detector) so I have taken it upon myself to monitor his edits (albeit with a high tolerance for outbursts which I will put down to hormones or confusion). You may ask why I make this edit here - it's because TIW has asked that I do not used his talk page other it will be reverted as a "code 1". If he could make it explicitly clear that I may talk to him by normal channels, then I think we will have a good relationship going forward. Hello! I saw your barnstar on Bwilkins talk page and it included some wording which I would like some clarification on. You said that there is no reason why users should ask if the requestor has twinkle. I believe this SHOULD be asked. As many of the individuals who have never used twinkle do not understand that the features of rollback are essentially the same as twinkle.
