April 2015[edit]

Thank you. I am new to wikimedia and have done updates on Mark Angelo's page as a favour to him and this site was taken over from another person. I appreciate your direction on links and edits and thank you for this. I will have a look at good etiquette and links in future to ensure they are correctly done. I will also speak with Mark about the Britannia Creek site and ask him for some references and then add these to the page. Will do this over next week. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. One thing I am struggling with is the images. I uploaded them for him, two are his and one belongs to Danny Catt who has given permission for this image to be added to the commons. How do I deal with Jim's issue for author vs uploader and prove I have permission. Thanks for your help! --Evolve Multimedia (talk) 00:54, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

January 2011[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Mark Angelo has been reverted.
Your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline from Wikipedia. The external link you added or changed is on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. I removed the following link(s): http://twitter.com/Rivers_BCIT. If the external link you inserted or changed was to a blog, forum, free web hosting service, fansite, or similar site (see 'Links to avoid', #11), then please check the information on the external site thoroughly. Note that such sites should probably not be linked to if they contain information that is in violation of the creator's copyright (see Linking to copyrighted works), or they are not written by a recognised, reliable source. Linking to sites that you are involved with is also strongly discouraged (see conflict of interest).
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 20:29, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Evolve Multimedia! I just now came across your new article on Britannia Creek. It is a very interesting subject, but the article has some serious problems as a Wikipedia article. The chief problem is that there are no references whatsoever, as inline citations or otherwise. Without that, the article cannot stand. Could you add some references? They could be from online sources or from books, whatever you have.

I also went quickly through the article and tried to set it up in a way that is more typical of a regular Wikipedia article.

Perhaps you would like to take a look at the article on the Gowanus Canal, an urban waterway that was extremely polluted? That article is of a very high standard, and it may give you some ideas about how you could improve the Britannia Creek article.

Invertzoo (talk) 21:17, 19 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. If you don't know how to do references properly, it is OK to start by listing them as bullet points below the heading References, and in the case of online sources, to include the URL. Invertzoo (talk) 00:28, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation link notification for April 20[edit]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Britannia Creek, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Pique. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

June 2015[edit]

Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Britannia Beach, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Joseph2302 (talk) 21:17, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Connected to Maple Ridge firm ?[edit]

Hello Evolve Multimedia: Does your user name indicate any relation to a Maple Ridge firm that pitches developing attractive web sites to clients and claims work on river-related websites? Paid contract work to edit wikipedia pages for clients can be a concern. Canuckle (talk) 21:29, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Canuckle, isn't this suggestion a major breach of Wikipedia protocol. In the COI page it is made pretty clear that editors may not out or make suggestions of identity and that this rule trumps any COI concern or question. Please retract the comment --Evolve Multimedia (talk) 01:21, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You have said yourself that your username is the name of your company. not a good move to go on the attack like this, sorry. Jytdog (talk) 01:40, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Username issue[edit]

My goodness how did this account name survive so long?

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Evolve Multimedia", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Trammel Museum of Art". However, you are invited to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you personally, such as "Mark at WidgetsUSA", "Jack Smith at the XY Foundation", and "WidgetFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people, and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, or website, regardless of your username. Moreover, I recommend that you read our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please create a new account or request a username change that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Jytdog (talk) 23:05, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the information. I appreciate teh information and did not realize there was an issue. It has existed for a long time and survived through several requests here and on Wikipedia commons. If I had known there was an issue, I would have changed it a long time ago. I will pursue the name change as you suggest. Again, I appreciate the information and resources you have provided here. --Evolve Multimedia (talk) 23:23, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
you are welcome! Jytdog (talk) 00:00, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Jytdog, I appreciate your comments on the conflict of interest page. To follow up with you, I have deleted my commentary out of deference to the spirit of wikipedia and to the efforts of everyone, whether I found it helpful or not, who contributes and edits. I am not interested in a name change at this point. Please delete my account as I no longer wish to participate here. As a user sure but as a busy peron with many responsibilities, volunteering to help out in a forum that involves a lot of research and time to understand is beyond my interest and ability to manage editing right now. Also, doing it wrong, which it seems very easy to do. Thanks again for all your help and for your committment to this resource. --Evolve Multimedia (talk) 00:09, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That was good of you to retract those statements - thanks for doing that. (technically, we had to redact them like this since someone had already replied to them (per WP:REDACT - but the spirit is what counted). Sorry you are leaving. Good luck! Jytdog (talk) 00:40, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Jytdog, one thing I noticed just now is the comment by Canuckle on my userpage and there are several references to my company in the COI as well. At the top of the COI page there is a statement that protects identity over COI interests. I do not feel that has occured here and no one has yet commented on the breach by user Canuckle. Can you please help me to state this in the COI discussion so that I can make my argument and deal with this issue, this unintended issue, without dealing with editors who are trying to make a personal identification of me and my company? Thank you --Evolve Multimedia (talk) 01:25, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The policy Wikipedia:Harassment includes: "However, if individuals have identified themselves without redacting or having it oversighted, such information can be used for discussions of conflict of interest (COI) in appropriate forums." Your choice of username and subjects clearly identifies you with the company Evolve Multimedia of Maple Ridge, BC, and it is not harassment to point this out in discussing potential COI. How to request unblock[edit]

You have been blocked (a) because your username is the name of a company, which is not permitted because Wikipedia accounts must be for individuals only, who are personally responsible for them, and (b) because you have been making promotional edits, raising suspicions of paid editing and conflict of interest.

I am surprised that nobody has raised the username issue before, but the use of Wikipedia by media companies to try to promote their clients has become an increasingly pressing problem over the last year or two, so users are more aware of it.

In order to request unblock, you can post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of this page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy. It may be based on your real name, or not, as you choose (see WP:REALNAME for some considerations), but it should not be the name of any other living person. A username of the form "James at Evolve" would be acceptable, and would serve to declare your affiliation. Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked.

First, read the WP:Guide to appealing blocks. Your request should explain your relationship with the company Evolve Multimedia and with the person on whose behalf you were editing (you said at WP:COIN that "I have assisted another who cannot edit in this forum").

You should also confirm that you have read the following and agree to edit in accordance with them:

Sockpuppet investigation[edit]

Hi. An editor has opened an investigation into sockpuppetry by you. Sockpuppetry is the use of more than one Wikipedia account in a manner that contravenes community policy. The investigation is being held at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Evolve Multimedia, where the editor who opened the investigation has presented their evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, and then feel free to offer your own evidence or to submit comments that you wish to be considered by the Wikipedia administrator who decides the result of the investigation. If you have been using multiple accounts (in a manner contrary to Wikipedia policy), please go to the investigation page and verify that now. Leniency is usually shown to those who promise not to do so again, or who did so unwittingly, but the abuse of multiple accounts is taken very seriously by the Wikipedia community.
