Next level business

Eye101, we talked about peer review for Hells Gate. We can start with the Good article designation (gives the green "plus" in the right hand corner of the article). It a one person review by (usually) an experienced article writer. Unfortunately, there's a backlog, so it might be weeks before someone gets to it. Geography articles tend to get reviewed quicker than others. I'll help out with what I can. Right now, I'd say we need a little more physical details on the landform itself. Exact location on the river, width of opening, depth of water at the narrowing, relative depth of the canyon to the adjacent mountains. Probably a new section before History. I heard somebody say they had more photos, they should upload them to commons.

Awesome thanks. I'm thinking that maybe this will have to wait till after exams/papers are finished... I'll plug away at it, but the substantial stuff might not get started for a couple weeks. I'll let the others know the thinking, and see if they wanna work on it too :)

WP:LQ

Hello Eye101, I removed your quotation changes at Nature fakers controversy, but I wanted to explain in more detail as to why without the constraints of an edit summary. Wikipedia uses something called logical quotation, which means you should "place all punctuation marks inside the quotation marks if they are part of the quoted material and outside if they are not." Because I wrote the nature fakers article, I know for a fact that all quotations follow LQ; so when a period or comma appears after the ending quotation mark, that means that the punctuation does not occur in the quote. It took time for me to become accustomed to writing in such a way, so I understand your confusion. I don't agree with its usage, but since the nature fakers article is Featured it must adhere to the MOS and other fiddly bits that Wikipedia has chosen to rest its laurels on. I hope this helps! That's all right, there's tons of little MOS things that still trip me up, and I've been editing for six years now. The best thing about Wiki is that if you're unsure about something, chances are someone else will come along, clean up after you, then cite some part of the MOS you've never even heard of before. :) Best of luck! Quotations

Hey team. Something another wikipedian just pointed out to me, about quotations used with other punctuation: "On Wikipedia, place all punctuation marks inside the quotation marks if they are part of the quoted material and outside if they are not." This is from Wikipedia:LQ#LQ. Do you think we could each go over our section and put the punctuation in the right place, cause it'll take having looked at the actual source to know where it should go? Introduction citations, and edits to the article

Hey! As I mentioned earlier, yesterday I went over the whole article and found some minor errors that should be fixed. Do I just go and edit them on the page or do you want me to put them into my sandbox so we can all see my proposed changes before I change anything on the actual entry? Also I have a question for the intro we do not have any citation (I know that many articles on the wikipedia do the same thing) but should not we cite the dates (or is that okay as long as we cite them in the middle of the article)? --AnastasiaU. I'd say just go for it and make the edits, and we can check them out once you've done them on the page. As for the citations in the introduction, I was wondering the same things... and so far I don't have a good answer. Maybe we should ask The Interior? --Eye101 (talk) 18:03, 9 April 2012 (UTC)

Hey folks - The idea of the lead section is that it summarizes all the content in the article. So, in theory, everything mentioned in the lead will have been referenced lower down in the content and shouldn't need a cite in the lead. Here's yet another wiki guideline: WP:LEAD. Hey! Just a quick note I think that the spelling of Hell's Gate is inconsistent throughout the entry so I am going to change the inconsistent ones to Hell's Gate for now (and once the article is transfered we can change the spelling of the name to match the entry). --AnastasiaU.
