Unfair

Hi, you just delted an article that I wrote. This was victim of vandalism by one single user. THE SOURCES WERE ADDED, so there were any good reason for the deleiton of this — Preceding unsigned comment added by Syntaktis (talkcontribs) 18:21, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Your incessant yelling at people, including bogus accusations of vandalism, doesn't help your cause. Furthermore, you appear to be a sock-puppet, so your stay is likely to be short. Favonian (talk) 18:27, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) @Syntaktis: Please see WP:BIO, WP:BLP and WP:VERIFY. Here are some things to note:
A). The sources that you used did not qualify as reliable sources to use per VERIFY, which is especially important for the article that you created, which falls under BLP.
B). You may not recreate an article that was previously deleted unless negotiating with the editors involved at the article's AfD.
C). You continued to remove the speedy deletion and protection tags on the article after you received your final warning on your talkpage, which is something that Favonian was nice enough not to block you for.
D). You are a suspected sock-puppet, so editing as a blocked user is also against Wikipedia policy. Regards— ElysianTail (talk) 18:35, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
The article I wrote was reviewed by MANY editor, the problem here is ONE SINGLE EDITOR, who cant stop BULLYING ME!!!!! Syntaktis (talk) 18:41, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
@Syntaktis: What do you mean by "reviewed by MANY editor"? Also, there was obviously more than "ONE SINGLE EDITOR" because it was tagged for deletion and then deleted by another user (administrator). The most important thing for you to do right now is to defend yourself at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Gstigler. Please see: Wikipedia:Sock puppetry#Proving you are not a sock. Also while your at it, please read WP:CIVIL. Regards— ElysianTail (talk) 18:50, 2 August 2016 (UTC)
@ElysianTail: I have already saw that silly accusation days ago, this user can't stop attacked me with defamatory stuff. I just don't want to play his game, I trust the intelligence of Wikipedia admins about this. Now, about the article, THIS USER is the ONLY ONE WHO MAKE CHAOS ABOUT THIS ARTICLE, many other editors, add info, correct any misspelling, etc. This user is BULLYING ME. That's it. Syntaktis (talk) 18:59, 2 August 2016 (UTC)

Graham 1973's talk page

The IP needs to be blocked. He has been blocked before and Graham's talk page needs protection. Please edit the edit summaries that are personal attacks too. This IP has been doing these personal attacks for 4 months. Angel Shark

Hey, why did you change my edit about the angle shark? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.206.28.218 (talk) 18:58, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

As you were informed, it lacked reliable sourcing. Furthermore, this recent contribution of yours diminished my faith in your good intentions. Favonian (talk) 19:01, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
That other one was a mistake - I had never used the wikipedia before, so didn't realize that edits were on a public website. Circumstantial evidence at best my friend.
In regards to angle sharks, can you please provide reliable sourcing that proves that are indeed angels? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 50.206.28.218 (talk) 20:53, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

It is, as you pointed out in this edit summary, somewhat lacking in coverage by independent, reliable sources. Whether it should be deleted/converted to a paragraph in another article, I would defer to a deletion discussion. Favonian (talk) 14:15, 27 August 2016 (UTC)

Rose Leslie

Greetings Favonian. Could you look at recent I/p edits on Rose Leslie? Previous experience of this type suggests the I/p is the BLP subject & simply doesn't like what has been said. I don't know a better way to suggest they use the standard procedure for BLP complaints -it doesn't look that difficult - but I'm hoping you do.
Regards JRPG (talk) 17:26, 28 August 2016 (UTC)

Hi JRPG. The information appears to be reliably sourced, so, barring an OTRS case or something of that sort, it stands. Maybe a note explaining the intricacies of our BLP policy (or a link to same) on the IP's talk page would make everyone sleep better. The question beckons: why does someone in Cincinnati, Ohio take such a lively interest in the political manifestations of a Scottish actress? Favonian (talk) 18:32, 28 August 2016 (UTC)
Thanks Favonian. 2 other editors have now reverted the I/p & pointed to the talk page so they should have the message. Regards JRPG (talk) 21:35, 28 August 2016 (UTC)

Hello,

I am contesting your speedy deletion of John Basedow per WP:G4. I can't access the old copy, but I don't believe the new copy is substantially similar to the copy that was deleted before. Additionally, the most recent deletion discussion was held over a year ago, and several editors noted that the topic was notable, but that the better approach would be WP:TNT. Could you undelete the article?StonefieldBreeze (talk) 21:35, 7 September 2016 (UTC)

@StonefieldBreeze: I am willing to userfy (i.e. move it to your user space) from where you can submit it as a draft. In my opinion it's no better than its predecessor. Favonian (talk) 21:40, 7 September 2016 (UTC)
It is now at User:StonefieldBreeze/John Basedow. Favonian (talk) 21:43, 7 September 2016 (UTC)
Could you be more specific as to what the issue is? The previous AFD listed a number of issues with the copy moreso than the topic. You're welcome to open to a new AFD for the new copy. Also, could I get a userfied version of the original, deleted version? It's fairly complete in it's current state, I see no reason to submit as a draft. Thanks. StonefieldBreeze (talk) 21:47, 7 September 2016 (UTC)
Not exactly major media coverage, with several of the refs by the person himself. I'll be signing off in a few minutes (Central European time zone), so you're on your own. Favonian (talk) 21:50, 7 September 2016 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) It's pretty obvious that StonefieldBreeze is not a new user... SmartSE (talk) 21:58, 7 September 2016 (UTC)
My thoughts exactly, SmartSE. The article's early history was dominated by a very eager, now blocked editor. Favonian (talk) 13:10, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
@Smartse: I've replied at User_talk:StonefieldBreeze#A_few_questions. That said, I'll revise the userfied copy to remove the primary references, and then post it to the main space. If there's still an issue, feel free to open an AFD. I still haven't gotten a copy of the original deleted version, so I can't really compare the current version to the deleted one.StonefieldBreeze (talk) 21:49, 8 September 2016 (UTC)

Hard to reach a consensus when the opposing parties believe fundamentally wrong information

Please show me any documented instance of the CRTC having authority over any American domestic television network? This is so stupid, the information has no sources, you can't find any reporting on it, and its inclusion in purely domestic United States television networks is irrelevant. I don't know what kind of agenda they have, but trying to push Canada into the United States and it's television networks is particularly dumb. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.240.231.252 (talk) 19:13, 13 September 2016 (UTC)

Orange

I am told you have "protected" the entry for "orange". I wanted to add that the Turkish word for "orange" is "Portakal". Google Translate confirms that. RobinClay (talk) 08:38, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

@RobinClay: It's correct that I semi-protected the Orange (fruit) article, but that only prevents IPs and newly created accounts from editing, not seasoned editors like yourself. On the other hand, if I understand your question correctly you wish to add a link to the Turkish Portacal article to the list in the left margin. That list is maintained by the Wikidata project, and changes to it are made there. There is a catch, however. English language Wikipedia has two articles: Orange (fruit) and Citrus × sinensis, the latter being about the plant. Portakal is linked to the plant article, and from looking at them, it seems that they cover the same material. If Turkish Wikipedia doesn't have an article similar to ours about the fruit, the current state of affairs is probably correct. Favonian (talk) 16:05, 16 September 2016 (UTC)

Extended confirmed protection

Hello, Favonian. This message is intended to notify administrators of important changes to the protection policy.

Extended confirmed protection (also known as "30/500 protection") is a new level of page protection that only allows edits from accounts at least 30 days old and with 500 edits. The automatically assigned "extended confirmed" user right was created for this purpose. The protection level was created following this community discussion with the primary intention of enforcing various arbitration remedies that prohibited editors under the "30 days/500 edits" threshold to edit certain topic areas.

In July and August 2016, a request for comment established consensus for community use of the new protection level. Administrators are authorized to apply extended confirmed protection to combat any form of disruption (e.g. vandalism, sock puppetry, edit warring, etc.) on any topic, subject to the following conditions:

  • Extended confirmed protection may only be used in cases where semi-protection has proven ineffective. It should not be used as a first resort.
  • A bot will post a notification at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard of each use. MusikBot currently does this by updating a report, which is transcluded onto the noticeboard.

Please review the protection policy carefully before using this new level of protection on pages. Thank you.
This message was sent to the administrators' mass message list. To opt-out of future messages, please remove yourself from the list. 17:47, 23 September 2016 (UTC)

I hate to do this to you, but could you take a look at WP:Administrators'_noticeboard/Edit_warring#User:Tarl_N._in_association_with_User:3primetime3_reported_by_User:103.9.40.129_.28Result:_.29 - you're semi-involved, having left an edit warring notice on the IP's page earlier today. I'm absolutely boggled by this one. I'm being accused of both WP:3RR and WP:SOCK (to make it add up). Tarl N. (discuss) 01:30, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

Impersonation

Just letting you know that there seems to have been a lot of socks attempting to impersonate you lately. They've been coding their sigs to look like you signed it, then adding illegitimate blocking notices to peoples' pages. For example, the most recent one is this one, which Oshwah quickly reverted. I believe all or most of them have, so far, been caught by administrators. -- Gestrid (talk) 02:07, 27 September 2016 (UTC)

Redirects Comment

Hello Favonian. I was wondering if you could help me. I was examining the WikiProject Portugal site's article assessment table and looking into the NA status articles, and came across an issue. I noticed that when I selected several "chapels" articles that instead of forwarding to an appropriate page, they redirect to the "Chaves, Portugal" page. Since I am keen on expanding buildings and structures in Portugal, I realize this is going to cause problems in the future. Is there any method of removing these [[3]] redirects to this articlespace, or at least forward me to the appropriate place for information on this issue. Or, if you can resolve it, then I would be appreciative as well. Thanks. ruben jc ZEORYMER (talk) 14:26, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Zeorymer. If I understand your question correctly, you want to edit the redirect. That requires a small maneuver explained in WP:EDRED. Favonian (talk) 17:49, 21 October 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. I thought there might be a simple technique. I going to get cracking on those articles then. Appreciate your assistance. ruben jc ZEORYMER (talk) 20:22, 21 October 2016 (UTC)

I noticed that you reverted somebody claiming to be a banned editor at User talk:Jimbo Wales/Unprotected. The purpose of that page is that anybody can get a messge thru to Jimbo if they really want to be polite about it. That's versus the alternative of always keeping his talk page completely open, where some (many?) banned editors will grandstand, insult, and make a mess of things. You are certainly within your rights to delete the banned editor and I certainly will not edit war over it. But I think that page provides an important valve for folks to let off steam or maybe even actually communicate with Jimbo. Any help appreciated.

Smallbones(smalltalk) 19:09, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

@Smallbones: Oh, I'm not gonna edit war with you either, so let's agree to confine him to that particular backwater. He's been doing this chest-beating act for ages, and if memory serves, Jimbo has asked to get comprehensively lost. His rantings on other pages will be reverted. Favonian (talk) 19:12, 25 October 2016 (UTC)
That's exactly what I think is best. He may even deserve to be kicked off of a page that is meant for the worst of the worst of banned editors, but I'd like to keep it open as much as possible, and Jimbo seems to agree in principal about the page (not necessarily about this editor). Thanks. Smallbones(smalltalk) 19:23, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

Dynamic IP disruptive editing

Hi, there's a user who has a dynamic IP address who has been disruptively editing the same sort of pages and does the same type of disruptive edits to warnings on their talk page, whether it be one of the previous IPs or the current one. This edit is the most common type by the user and it is evident it is the same user, as evidence in these previous edits [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9],[10]. I noticed that you blocked 49.196.13.30 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), 49.196.134.122 (talk · contribs · WHOIS), 49.196.134.63 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) with the reasons of long-term abuse and block evasion. The most recent IP used as a block evasion is this 49.196.9.226 (talk · contribs · WHOIS); is there anywhere to report this same IP whenever a new one pops up or is it best to leave a message on your talkpage? Thanks, Flickerd (talk) 13:27, 30 October 2016 (UTC)

@Flickerd: Yes, indeed. That Australian nuisance has been around a while, though there's no formal LTA. I block them on a routine basis, so I guess my talk page is the best place to report them. Not quite around 24/7, even if it feels that way. Favonian (talk) 13:36, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, I've come across them a fair bit with just leaving warnings and I'm growing pretty tiresome of it, I'll let you know when they pop up again. Thanks, Flickerd (talk) 13:39, 30 October 2016 (UTC)

Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 06:06, 6 November 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Favonian.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, Favonian. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Will try, but the risk of their puny bits of disruption getting lost in the general ruckus is imminent. Favonian (talk) 13:50, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
Well, Mzilikazi1939, this sort of did it. Blocked indefinitely. Favonian (talk) 08:43, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
I wasn't going to complain about that attack, but thanks. It has saved many other users annoyance. Mzilikazi1939 (talk) 10:17, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
@Mzilikazi1939: He Had It Coming, but now that I have your attention, this revert is improper. WP:BLANKING specifies what users may and may not remove from their talk pages, and warnings belong to the former category. Favonian (talk) 11:46, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for pointing that out. I had been under the impression that blanking a warning was not supposed to happen. It's almost invariably contentious accounts that go in for such behaviour. Mzilikazi1939 (talk) 14:52, 23 November 2016 (UTC)
