Hi again. I noticed you manually greet new users that you create with the welcome-menu. I too like that menu because of it's robust list of links and policies which users can easily keep around for future reference. A while back I created {{wmnc}} (short for WelcomeMenuNoContribs) which you may find more appropriate since the regular welcomemenu says "thank you for your contributions". Using {{subst:wmnc}} will give essentially the same menu, but the "thanks for your contribs" section is replaced with "as you are getting started" or something to that effect. Feel free to use it if you find it helpful, or feel free to improve the wording in the template as needed. Regards,  7  02:29, 17 May 2010 (UTC) [reply]

GOCE backlog elimination drive chart

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive! We have now reached the halfway point, and here's what has happened so far.

  • Requests Report - Good news! The number of special requests waiting to be edited has been reduced drastically, with almost all of the remaining items having editors committed to getting them done. Good work, people!
  • Target Report - ɳorɑfʈ's initial target of reducing the backlog of articles for copy edit turned out to be unrealistic insane, so a new target was set: we hope to reduce the to backlog to less than 7,500 items in the queue by the end of the month. The number in the queue was 7,950 as of close of business yesterday.
    • If we "concentrate our firepower" we can wipe out Jan, Feb, and March 2008, meaning the drive will have cleared four months off the backlog queue. Please consider copyediting from one of these months.
  • Rewards Report - We now have some clear leaders on the board in all three Gold Star categories, and many people have qualified for the various barnstars. It is not too late to participate, as it takes just 2,000 words (pre-edit) to qualify for a barnstar! Don't wait! Start participating today. Remember, the ultimate winner is Wikipedia.
  • Notice to Participants - For those who have indicated that you will be working on certain articles on the drive page in your respective tally box, please ensure that you complete these copyedits as soon as possible.

Thank you very much for your participation so far!

GOCE /Copyedit Van Morrison

Hi Mlpearc. I've recently nominated the Van Morrison album His Band and the Street Choir for featured article status, but I've been advised to ask someone from the guild of copyeditors to copyedit the article because the prose isn't up to scratch. Would you be able to look through the article for improvements to the prose if thats ok? Cheers Kitchen roll (talk) 20:35, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Some people went to a concert on a greyhound bus ? I am informing you at this time I am compiling the edits we went through the last two or three times, if you replace those edits without any references to this happening and references to why this trip on a bus and the people involved is encyclopedic and relevant to this article I will report your edits to ANI. No programming is necessary. Just some cutting/pasting and some search/replacing. I've done the preliminaries for you to help you get started. Now you can fine tune it. Have fun. The Transhumanist    23:32, 23 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

AWB

Hi,
the underlying rule of this edit needs reviewing, I think. Generally of course, I don't know why AWBing through talk pages is desirable in the first place.

CSD

You really want to be careful reverting blankings of articles by their creators. Sometimes they see the CSD tag and believe they are doing the right thing by blanking the content (and most times they are), then the content is re-added and they receive a warning on their user talk. It can be very confusing for them. I appreciate all your hard work, just be a bit more careful. See ya 'round Tiderolls 00:09, 1 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE /Backlog Elimination Drive Wrap-up

Thanks very much to all who helped with the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive. We were very close to meeting our target of 7,500 articles remaining in the backlog. Our most shining success is the incredible reduction in the backlog of Special Requests. That part of the project saw a drop from 62 articles in the queue, some dating back to February of 2009, down to a stunning THREE, all of which were being edited at the close of the drive. The Special Requests page will now be a great resource for people looking to tidy up their article in advance of a GA or FA nomination, instead of a place where articles go to die.

Moving forward

GOCE backlog elimination drive chart up to 31 May

The drive has not only forced a great leap forward in reducing the backlog. It has helped promote the Guild, and led to a greater awareness of the level of vigilance required to keep the backlog manageable. Ideas such as charts, graphs, and barnstars helped motivate editors, and meeting other users helped quell any feelings gnomish editors may have had in the past that they were toiling all alone. Keep up the good work people!!

Stats

Almost everyone who participated will receive a barnstar. We will be handing these out over the next week or so.

  • Five people will receive the highest award for word count (80,000 or more), the Most Excellent Order of the Caretaker's Star: Bullock, Diannaa, NielsenGW, S Masters, and Torchiest.
  • The Order of the Superior Scribe (40,000+) goes to Auntieruth55, Bobnorwal, Kojozone, Lfstevens, and Mlpearc.
  • fds wins the Modern Guild of Copy Editors Barnstar (30,000+).
  • The Old School League of Copyeditors Barnstar for 20,000+ is awarded to A. Parrot, mono, Truthkeeper88, and The Utahraptor.
  • the Tireless Conributor Barnstar (12,000+) goes to dtgriffith, Laurinavicius, and Quinxorin.
  • Buggie111, Brickie, cymru lass, liquidluck, noraft, and Yellow Monkey get the Cleanup Barnstar for 8,000+ words.
  • The Working Man's Barnstar for 4,000+ words goes to Annalise and fetchcomms.
  • The Modest Barnstar is awarded to Theo10011 and The Tito.

Gold Star Award

The Gold Star Award goes to the top editor in three challenges: Number of special requests fulfilled, number of articles edited, and number of words. Here are the final results.

Final results: Gold Star Award:

AfC

Just to let you know... the AfC submission you're reviewing, "List of Minor Highlander (Film) characters" isn't going to be updated by the submitter as they've been blocked for repeated vandalism.

I happened to see it having submitted a (granted) category create request yesterday, and browsing other pending submissions saw a previous version they submitted under a slightly different title. It was put on hold yesterday by the other reviewer, and, since it was an okay movie, I made small changes (1 edit) to insert a reference plus link/spelling tidying. I had look a look today to see if it was created or not and saw the newly-created duplicate in the pending category. I was going to make a null edit to point to the earlier submission and say the cleanups can be migrated to the new one as reviewer/nominator desire, but then saw the submitter had been blocked.

Looking around, one of the minor characters listed in the AfC submission was [1] created as a standalone article by someone recently blocked as a sockpuppet, and whose talkpage shows the same focus on minor characters in the Highlander franchise as well as same interest in the soap Eastenders; the sockmaster account was active at AfC.

Almost certainly, if covered at all, the minor characters would be covered in the List of Highlander characters article, as the person who took a related list to featured status merged/redirected a bunch of lists (List of Highlander movies minor Immortals, of Highlander Immortals, Characters of Highlander Movies, Characters of Highlander Series, etc) a year or two ago.

The submission (both) can probably be declined and possibly deleted as created by a block evading sock. It's up to you if you want to merge the information/fixes from the two into the List of Highlander characters article, of course; it's not something I'm interested in myself as I'm unwilling to take responsibility for verifying content of a blocked/banned user. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know since I saw you'd made fixes to it just as I did yesterday, so you didn't waste your time. I'll leave it with you and wash my hands of it! Thanks, 92.30.83.244 (talk) 21:30, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ugh sorry - took too long typing that I guess as it's since been created. Ah well I'll leave it in your hands. Regards, 92.30.83.244 (talk) 21:32, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks for your input, yeah little time lag but with further review and your message I tagged it G5. Creations by a banned or blocked user(s). Mlpearc pull my chain 'Tribs 22:07, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • You're welcome; that's probably best yeah. Their other submission can probably be declined or G5'd as well. 92.30.83.244 (talk) 22:19, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewer permission

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 23:29, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

World of Warcraft Page Edits

Colloquially, you are correct in your usage of the term "Outlands" in reference to the former Orc homeworld of Draenor. Technically and specifically; however, the correct spelling of the name is "Outland", as per Blizzard Entertainment's website (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/burningcrusade/townhall/outland.html).

A lot of people that play the game mistakenly refer to "Outland" as "Outlands". It is common.

Assistance needed in deleting a section

I came here via the list of highly active users. I have a question about deleting a section, rather than an article. I want to be sure to go about it the correct way. I have posted a proposal comment on the talk page at Human trafficking. However, I would like to know if there is a specific procedure to flag or something like that. Many questions and comments on the talk page are very old and lack a response. I don't want to arbitrarily delete the section without consensus. I have nothing against the NGOs listed, my goal is simply to improve the article according to the guidelines established by Wikipedia. Thank you. Cindamuse (talk) 01:49, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Cindamuse, I have had a had a proposal and it looks like you have a very good start, I am not familar with the topic but you r format is just fine. here is a link to the one i had a few months ago. Here. Again your format and approach is just fine, I would now add a section for 1.Discussion, and 2.support (for editors to show they support your proposal. and 3.Oppose for those who don't. Give 5 or 6 days depending on the response the topic is receiving, longer if the discussions continues. Then at a respectable time you'll have to go with the outcome. be sure to respond to any questions asked in defense of your proposal. If you need any further help please do not hesitate to ask, good luck. Mlpearc powwow 03:27, 7 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
