Illumina Records Page Deletion

I am an employee at Illumina Records and Promotions. Part of my job was to create a Wikipedia article that describes our company and states the services we provide. I noticed today that the Illumina Records page has been deleted. I was wondering why this happened and what I could do to reinstate the page?

My name is Nicole Van Eden. I am the Vice President at Illumina Records. I am weriting for your help!

First, the blog you are referring to which was the source of our Wikipedia page deletion, is a blog which was posted by a disgruntled employee. This blog is not factual and has been spinning out of control in the past few week. The blog has become dangerous with threats to our company and employees which is why we are in the process of trying to get the blog taken down.

Our company works with and promotes over 2300 bands, and over 10,000 musicians nationwide. With all the clients we serve, we have only 6 unsatisfied customers who have posted blogs. Three of these customers have posted on the blog referenced. Same as with any company, you cannot please everyone. And with the number of clients which we have had and currently have, this is an extremely low rate of unsatisfied customers.

Although the disgruntled employee did post a completely non-factual blog about our company, i do have proof of over 50 past and present employees and unpaid interns who have worked at Illumina with positive experiences. As you can see by the comments on the referenced blog which Illumina's staff has posted, we do show examples of credible testimonials and refferences for the company. Some of the refferences includes the legendary Toad's Place in New Haven Connecticut's general manager's quote of his positive experience working with Illumina on a show. We also show pictures of the President of Illumina, myself, and our staff with industry and business professionals. There are pictures and quotes of Illumina's work with WAAF, a major Rock Radio in Boston,MA, DC101, a major Rock Radio in Washington DC, and music business moguls such as Marty Walsh, a former member of Supertramp the band and a Berklee professor in Boston MA. You had mentioned our Wikipedia page was deleted because it was written in the first person. I appreciate any and all help. I am not sure what to do or where to go from here.

The Capitol (Hong Kong)

Could you tell me why The Capitol (Hong Kong) was deleted? Don't tell me this is due to lack of notibility. If so, I would like ask you why LOHAS Park can still be reserved. I don't know anything about either, fella. I deleted it because it had been tagged for deletion for 7 days and no one had contested the tag. I've restored the article. I'd suggest if the two subjects (Capitol and LOHAS) are closely related you might want to combine them into a single article. AFD

I saw that you made a decision on AFD so I am asking for your unofficial opinion.

Is this article worthy of deletion? It doesn't have much written on it. On the other hand, bad article writing is not as much as factor (or is not a factor???) as notability. However, is a train stop notable? What other criteria are important? Or are all train stops notable? All high schools are notable, that is a Wikipedia custom.

Debating whether or not something is 'notable' is generally a fraught and ultimately fruitless exercise. The only real measure of whether we should carry an article on something is whether there are sources we can cite that cover the topic in detail. Train stations are generally the subject of at least some local attention when they are built, so there should be sources available covering this one, I'd imagine. I think here magnum opus is meant in the sense of "masterpiece", rather than a volume of work. However, I do agree with your previous tag removal, because it seems bizarre to me that this is not a Good, nor even a Featured article, as it deserves to be. I get the intended meaning but it's still wrong to apply it here, see [1] or our magnum opus article. The refs calling it a magnum opus are fairly iffy too. I didn't even think about a redirect - my bad there. I had actually already put both albums on the same page to later open the other and voila, there was the tracklist for one of the two versions. *LOL* Kind of sad that the two pages merged here were both very poorly done and with no infoboxes...glad I was able to fix that, I have two or three others to fix and more still to add (just found The Definitive Collection, which looks like a mammoth release, and The Best of the Ballads). Tina Turner

Hi. I can your concern, and actually, there are a couple (or more) pages in the see also section which do not have to be there. List of female rock singers and Best selling music artists are the top two, and I think I will take those out. Those are self evident. I'm quite ambivalent about List of artists who reached number one on the Hot 100 (U.S.) and List of artists who reached number one on the U.S. Dance chart would follow and those are relatively recent additions, I think. List of honorific titles in popular music, however, is the last one I'd consider, especially considering that title is mentioned in the lead paragraph of the article and is less obviously something one would consider looking through Wikipedia to find. Neither seems particularly relevant. Thousands of artists must have performed on TOTP, are we to include a link to the complete list in each of their biographies? And the other is just trivia really, rendered meaningless by the lack of context. Not policy per se, I just objected to the mass addition of this link in the biography of every individual listed. If you want to keep it in those articles that's fine. My thinking was this. It's trivia: the people on that list form no coherent set, and if it was a category ("Honorific titles in popular music") it would be deleted. Sticking the link in the 'see also' section instead strikes me as gaming the system. Also the link title is fairly meaningless when divorced of context, requiring the reader to click on it just to find out what an "honorific title" is. A few pages pipe the link with the first mention of the nickname, King of Pop, which seems ok. I notice it's not actually mentioned on King's page that he was known as the King of the Blues, which perhaps gives the measure of how important this information is. Greetings Flowerparty. Thanks for reply & rationale. Way I see it is that the link to another article helps lighten the "mother" article by providing access to other sources which may not be considered important enough for the main article (i.e. what might be considered trivia in one article might well be relevant elsewhere). I'm not sure that it's "gaming the system", I reckon it's more a case of making optimum use of internal links.

As for whether or not the "List of honorific titles..." is a coherent set, I don't see how deleting links to it solves that particular issue. If you read the history (not really worth it, but interesting as an analysis of how consensus can be reached) you'll see by my early involvement in that article that I was never actually all that keen on it. I was simply trying to wikify it while it was up and help out an inexperienced editor who was being set upon by other more experienced editors who were AfDing it. It was then taken over by a few administrators and I left for greener pastures. I realise that's not much of a rationale for an article, but as it stands, it is certainly more complete than many (most?) other lists and seems harmless enough. Maybe not everyone's idea of what an encyclopaedia is or should be, but there again, Wikipedia isn't really meant to be that... Regards, --Technopat (talk) 00:24, 7 July 2009 (UTC)

It is remarkable that that list has gone through three afds and ended up looking as smart as it does. I still think it's based on a wp:synthy premise, as demonstrated by the lede's attempt to define the term "honorific title" with reference to a couple of throwaway newspaper mentions that don't even appear to use the term. Deleting links to it is not the same as deleting the list though. Note also that the musicians listed are included in many other lists, all of which would no doubt benefit from a boost in traffic. Carina Axelsson deletion

Hey, sorry I missed the discussion about deleting Carina Axelsson. I think her claim to fame is sleeping with a minor German princeling; she's an ex-model of a blink-and-you-miss-it career, and her books are all published by high-end vanity presses which refuse to release any data about sales. If we were to open discussion about deleting her, again, should I contact some of the prior participants? I can respect your decision that there was no consensus on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Blastoise, however, I don't understand why you say AfD is the wrong forum. Many times the results of an AfD are to redirect; isn't that the purpose of AfD, to garner consensus about whether an article should be kept, deleted, or redirected (the latter of which is pretty much a delete)? Well it's called articles for deletion for a reason. You should only nominate an article for deletion if you actually want the article (and its history, crucially) deleted. If you think the article should be merged or redirected somewhere then you should just go ahead and do the merge, or if someone reverts you then you need to seek consensus for the merge through other channels. An rfc night be appropriate, as someone mentioned in the discussion. Afd is only a place to build consensus about deleting stuff, and since you didn't need the article deleted there wasn't really any need for the afd. Flowerparty^☀ 09:03, 15 July 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Common pub names in Australia

I've just spent the best part of an hour trying to find this page having been referring to it at times over the past few months and would request that it be restored. I agree the article was not sustainable in its current form but I would disagree intensely with suggestions regarding notability criteria. Can the article please be restored. Additionally the deletion debate suggests that one of the reasons is a lack of verifiable sources, may I suggest http://www.gdaypubs.com.au/names.html for some statistical grounding. I've restored the page in your userspace. I don't think it should be moved back to article space in its current state but you're welcome to have a go at fixing it up. To be honest I tend to think all the so-called specific notability guidelines are an unnecessary shoal of red herrings, and more trouble than they're worth - if a subject doesn't meet wp:n that should be the end of it. Anyway, looking at wp:prof the only point he may meet is no 1 - significant impact in his field. I don't think such impact was demonstrated in the discussion - he's not the main author in the papers you cited and it can be misleading to go purely on the number of cites. Deletions to Peel page

Hello Flowerparty, I was a little dismayed that you deleted the following from the John Peel page: "He fronted and provided voice-overs for a large number of other programmes in his long career. Never someone to shy away from controversial topics, Peel agreed to front a 1994 one-off documentary for Radio 1 about the use of recreational drugs by popular musicians. The programme, Lost In Music, made by an independent production company, was heavily slated by a dry BBC Review board and Liz Forgan in particular, who declared that she hoped "my children never hear this".[citation needed] However it received critical acclaim for its honest approach to a delicate subject."

As someone involved in this programme I know that it was something that he felt strongly about. I'd be happy to have it edited (to remove any hint of any potentially anti-Radio 1 sentiment you mentioned) but I do feel it has some releveance considering the subject matter. How about something like this:

I took out a lot of stuff that wasn't really relevant to a short biography of Peel. He expressed his views about any number of topics over the years and supported thousands of artists; partisans of some of these topics had clearly left their mark on the page but it simply isn't possible to cover everything in a wikipedia article. Are there third party sources discussing how important this documentary was to Peel, how it was a significant event in his life? This seems to suggest he just read the voice over. If not I don't see how it's fair to give it preference over any other documentary Peel was involved with, sorry. Flowerparty^☀ 16:29, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Mmmm. fair points about the size of the article and the number of artists Peel supported, but given we couldn't possibly list every track/artist played by Peel, I felt the inclusion of this reference to his work on other areas and this documentary did reflect some of his other contributions, which surely is relevant? Yes the Independent reviewer was right to say Peel had a script for that show - but that's true of almost every radio documentary/feature ever made, and besides Peel did get involved and change certain aspects to suit his style so what the newspaper reviewer had to say was a fairly spurious point, and anyway most reviewers as we know are almost exclusively based in POV (eg: "apparently oblivious to the fact that most modern dance tracks do go on for ever" shows a complete disregard to the point of dance music!). How attached John actually felt to this particular programme we'll probably never know but the fact that he agreed to do it at that point in time was notable and I still think it's worth at least one line in a page otherwise (rightly) pretty dominated by the main thrust of his career. Waldo C. Graphic

Hello, Flowerparty. Back in June, you closed Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Waldo C. Graphic as a redirect to Jim Henson's Muppet*Vision 3D. Clearly, that's what the consensus favored, so I do not fault your finding. However, since the character appeared in two different properties (in addition to Muppet*Vision, he was actually created for and first appeared in The Jim Henson Hour), I don't think a redirect to just one of those properties is appropriate (especially since the article doesn't even mention him). I believe the character is in fact notable, as apparently he was the first digital puppet. My question to you is, what should be my next step? I may be able to work on finding references sometime in the future, but for the time being, there's still the basic problem with the redirect. Powers ^T 23:13, 30 August 2009 (UTC)

Roman K. Kovalev

Dear Flowerparty,

Regarding the Roman K. Kovalev deletion, why do you think he is non-notable? Are you able to read Russian, Norwegian, and Swedish? Do you have access to any search engines other than Google? Why do you not try Lexis Nexis or another academic database?

Are you considered an academic, a Ph.D., or a notable historian? What gives you the right to determine his notability? I am sure the numerous graduate students and professors from around the world that contact Dr. Kovalev regarding historical issues find him to be rather notable.

I am a former student of Dr. Kovalev, and I find his non-notable status rather outrageous and appalling. Why are you able to determine his non-notable status? Do you have any academic merit, or scholarly work published? Are you invited to conferences around the world to give lectures about events in history? I think not. You write for Wikipedia. Professors and scholars, including Dr. Kovalev, scoff at the very existence of Wikipedia. They regard this website as rubbish, and an absolute detriment to research and scholarly work. Dr. Kovalev implores his students to avoid Wikipedia at all cost, and will fail them if they use it as a research source.

Dr. Kovalev is not concerned with his status on Wikipedia, but, as a former student, I feel it is necessary to make the administrators (non-scholars) of Wikipedia aware that they really have no clue as to the merits of living scholars. The administrators do not have the necessary research skills, language skills, and access to academic databases to make a determination about notability.

That said, I am sure Dr. Kovalev will still be contacted by numerous scholars all over the world without the help of Wikipedia.

T4T Article deletion

After viewing this show on a DVD I purchased, I went to look up more on it in Wikipedia. There are several failed Adult Swim pilots (Korgoth) and several upcoming/unreleased pilots (Cheyenne) like T4T which have articles. Is there any reason why this one was deleted and those aren't? The grounds on which you have deleted Mandalavandalz article seem to be factually incorrect. In 2008 you classify the articles as "Solo project of a member of a band who isn't notable".

In the world of psychedelic trance, from Goa in season -95, through the Northern psychedelic outdoor party scene of the nineties, there is no other near as legendary a musician as mr. Thick himself. He is by far the single most significant influence to Suomisaundi and how it developed. There is not even context. It is his finger print from this early songs and scrappy tracker sounds. It's a kind of a restlessness.

Never a friend of publicity or popularity of any kind, Tim managed to have done hundreds of performances under various monickers across major psychedelic trance events globally. From a very early age he was the prodigy of psychedelic trance, people could not believe what he was doing with tracker on his dad's pentium. I think he was 15.

Rami Nuri, Gopal Das, many others..

I came to Wikipedia, for what else? Research, of course. One topic of interest is my friend and guide, Rami Nuri, which as a wiki page, I see has an interesting history. I read through as much as I could, and came across a blurb about contacting the admins responsible for deleting a page.. If I'm contacting the wrong admin please let me know so I can correctly pursue this venture.

I have nothing to do with Eckankar which is the directed to page that a query for Rami Nuri now leads to.. More importantly, neither does Rami Nuri. He is an actual BEing, and should have his own page. He is a known Venusian, and RealGuide with The ALLIS, along with Gopal Das, Rebazar Tarzs, Fubbi Quantz, Yauble Sacabi, and many many others including Paul Twitchell, the founder of Eckankar. Knowledge of the RealGuides has been intentionally suppressed throughout the entirety of mankind's history, and so has the actuality of many historical events.

The RealGuides are their own BEings and belong to no organization or membership, however legitimate the group may seem. They are however here and now to assist everyone no matter what a person has decided for themselves as to what their lives are to be, with becoming more aware.. awareness supersedes belief, hope, and faith, which have become words for marketing ploy and deception. The RealGuides provide RealExperiences for everyone so everyone can WakeUP and see for themselves what is really taking place on Earth.

It is unfortunate that a few small organizations should try and covet any of these great BEings and keep them so secret. The RealGuides no longer refer to themselves as "masters" or "gurus" they are simply guides for everyone willing to step into the complete unknown and become more aware.
