By the way, when you are writing on a discussion page (or someone's talk page), it is considered good manners to sign your comment... to do this, just add ~~~~ at the end of your comment. That will put your user name (Seeberga) and the date/time at the end (or you can click on the icon when you are editing. Never sign on an article page - only on a discussion page.

leave a message on this page by clicking on the edit this page tab at the top of the page, going to the bottom of the edit box, and then typing {{helpme}} followed by your question. Someone will be along as soon as possible to help you by replying on this page.
leave a message on the Help Desk - just click on that link, and then follow the instructions on the page which appears.

Creating a new article[edit]

First, be prepared!

Have your sources available - you won't need them the moment you start, but you will soon!

Read Wikipedia:Reliable sources and Wikipedia:Independent sources for information on the kinds of sources Wikipedia prefers.

Then use the Article Wizard to start your article:

Click here: Wikipedia:Article Wizard 2.0 and basically follow the instructions!

When you get to the final page ("6. End") choose "Create new userspace draft"

The userspace draft is important - it allows you to develop your article in your userspace (rather than in the main encyclopedia) - and there is more leeway given. When you have finished the article, it can be moved to the encyclopedia - but I'll explain that when we're ready for that!

One word of warning: do not copy text verbatim from a book, magazine, newspaper, journal, website, etc... copyright violations will result in the page being deleted, often with very little warning. All words must be your own.

There are several ways of getting help:

Leave a message on this page. It is on my watchlist, which means that I can see what the latest change to the page is!
Leave a message on my talk page - just click on "Contact Me" in my signature
Go into IRC
Leave a message on this page starting with {{helpme}} followed by your question - someone in the IRC help room will be over as soon as possible
Leave a question on the Help Desk
