I just thought I'd let you know that you reverted an edit that an IP made at Talk:Religion when all they were doing was to correct something in a comment that they had left in good faith (actually quite constructive). Warning vandals

Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Diablo III: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit was inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. Fuhghettaboutit created the page as a new redirect, but, because of a typo, the page pointed to itself; this is not ground for speedy deletion: the patroller should fix the redirect, instead of tagging the page. Gavin, you sent me a msg to my Wiki "hompage" saying that changes I made to a number of pages were advertising for my website, and upon checking one of the pages, notice that the link I placed there to my website was removed. I know you are a volunteer, and you are only following a script set up by the lords and masters at the high council of Wikipedia, but here is the problem with whomever set up this policy.... my website is more not for profit than Wikipedia, because, I do not go around asking for donations to keep it going.... further, my website is purely an information website, JUST LIKE Wikipedia, so, if I can't place a link to another reference website, then I will remove ALL references to Wikipedia from my pages, and I will blast the archaic policies your bosses have come up with... now., if there is anything you can do to correct this situation, and keep it from happening in the future, then you-da-man Gavin!, if not, well, it's not your fault... we are all pawns of someone or something else... :-) Toddo from railroadsignals.us Toddgp30 (talk) 04:59, 26 June 2011 (UTC)

PLAYING BY THE RULES

Well, as I said earlier, people made the rules, people can change the rules, I wrote a pretty nasty email to the info@ wiki address stating the same thing, one of the things I mentioned in there is that if someone besides myself posted the link to my pages, it would probably be OK according to what Limulus said, so, if the policy is good for you guys, I guess I will have to adopt a similar policy, and ban any mention of Wikipedia from my websites for similar reasons, after all, we can't go around promoting things that help people, can we now?, that just wouldn't be right.... rules are especially stupid when they defy the laws of common sense, and I think this rule qualifies..... check out my homepage later for my rant on this www.railroadsignals.us..... the purpose of my website is to inform people, so they can learn, when another group, organization, or whatever wants to stiffle that learning process, yes, I do have a problem with it, if the people who set up the guidelines can't see their way thru the fog to see that, well, then they are bad people...

Dear Wikipedist editor, I want to submit to your attention an our common problem: disruptive contributions and edit warring operated by user Derek farn (talk). This latter shows systematically a provoking behaviour and lacking of respect for other people’s work, typical of vandalism. dashes and nbsp

Thank you for you recent changes to some Toyota articles. I reverted some of your edits about dashes and spaces. Some of them had changed the file names of images - which means the image can not be displayed. Some of them changed comments - comments are never displayed, so nbsp's just make the comments harder to read. And many of the remaining nbsp's were to stop line breaks before dashes. I'm not 100% sure if dashes should only have line breaks after them but it seems okay to me for line breaks on either side and the nbsp makes them harder to read. There is a backstage pass coming up to be followed by an editathon in the State Library of New South Wales on 23 November. This is the first time that an Australian cultural institution has opened its doors to us in this way and will be a special opportunity because the Library is providing: one of its best rooms; its expert curators (along with their expertise and their white gloves); a newly launched website (containing new resources); and of course, items from its collection (including rare and usually unavailable material) which we can look at, learn from, and use, to improve WP articles. For example, on the chosen topic (Australia and WWI), the Library holds many diaries and manuscripts from the period.

As you can see from the Library's project page, they have connected this editathon with their own work. They have already set out a wide range of resources to make things easier for us. Copyright checks when performing AfC reviews

Hello Gavin.perch. This message is part of a mass mailing to people who appear active in reviewing articles for creation submissions. First of all, thank you for taking part in this important work! I'm sorry this message is a form letter – it really was the only way I could think of to covey the issue economically. Of course, this also means that I have not looked to see whether the matter is applicable to you in particular.

The issue is in rather large numbers of copyright violations ("copyvios") making their way through AfC reviews without being detected (even when easy to check, and even when hallmarks of copyvios in the text that should have invited a check, were glaring). A second issue is the correct method of dealing with them when discovered.

If you don't do so already, I'd like to ask for your to help with this problem by taking on the practice of performing a copyvio check as the first step in any AfC review. The most basic method is to simply copy a unique but small portion of text from the draft body and run it through a search engine in quotation marks. Trying this from two different paragraphs is recommended. (If you have any question about whether the text was copied from the draft, rather than the other way around (a "backwards copyvio"), the Wayback Machine is very useful for sussing that out.)

If you do find a copyright violation, please do not decline the draft on that basis. Copyright violations need to be dealt with immediately as they may harm those whose content is being used and expose Wikipedia to potential legal liability. If the draft is substantially a copyvio, and there's no non-infringing version to revert to, please mark the page for speedy deletion right away using {{db-g12|url=URL of source}}. If there is an assertion of permission, please replace the draft article's content with {{subst:copyvio|url=URL of source}}.

Some of the more obvious indicia of a copyvio are use of the first person ("we/our/us..."), phrases like "this site", or apparent artifacts of content written for somewhere else ("top", "go to top", "next page", "click here", use of smartquotes, etc.); inappropriate tone of voice, such as an overly informal tone or a very slanted marketing voice with weasel words; including intellectual property symbols (™,®); and blocks of text being added all at once in a finished form with no misspellings or other errors.
