Assessment of Admiral Hugo Biermann

I assessed your article on Hugo Biermann. Regrettably, I did not change the Start category. What the biography needs is context and significance. At present, it is a list of assignments. What did his unit do in these assignments? What was the importance of the assignment and his contribution to the mission? As Chief of the South African Navy he must have pursued some policies that the favored. What was the content of his "Response". What did he argue for and against? These are things I wanted to know, which the article did not tell me.

Keep working, though! The topic is important and merits more effort.

Book The Spot speedy deletion

Hi Gbawden, please go ahead and delete the Book The Spot page. I am doing research and finding too much information is NOT available for reference purposes. I shall have to audit some websites and have critical information added before I proceed with a Wikipedia article. Thanks. (The Great Bearded One (talk) 10:15, 10 March 2016 (UTC))

Trivial changes

Please don't make trivial changes like this (unless part of a serious edit that does something constructive), since you trigger the watchlist of everyone who watches every page you do such things to, which wastes a lot of editorial time and attention. It is not necessary to "manicure" the spacing of templates that are virtually never looked at by anyone other than a handful of wikiproject functionaries. That kind of spacing is actually helpful in long, complicated templates that get in everyone's faces, namely citation templates when they are inside the article paragraphs (if they're at the bottom, in WP:LDR or WP:SFN format, we usually format them vertically instead or horizontally, with each parameter on its own line; this is great in a section of nothing but references, but it makes paragraphs hard to get a sense of when it's done vertically in the main content). But even spacing of cite templates shouldn't be done unless rendered content is also being improved in the same edit. On a busy biography page, or any controversial topic, you might hit several hundred editors' watchlists. And this kind of spacing is not helpful in short templates (e.g. {{em|emphasized text}} or {{See also|Chicken nugget}}). A good rule of thumb is that if the template takes up more than a full line of an editing window in full-screen mode, and it's inside the main flow of the article content, then the spacing is probably helpful. Otherwise it's either a waste of time, or for short templates it actually makes them harder to speed-read, since they can't be mentally parsed as a quick unit, but as several units, and people stop and wonder why it's spaced, whether there's a typo in there, etc., because it's not conventional to space them that way. Hope this helps. I have no problem with WP:GNOMEing; it's my main activity around here, just has to be done in ways that are a net benefit and low-impact.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  22:36, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi Gbawden, Thanks for handling deletion of Jack Rollins article. I think Jude Quinn should also be deleted. I've done a lot of editing, but I've never done an Afd. When I tried it on Jude Quinn, page did not seem to format in the right way. Would you be able to do the honours for Jude Quinn? The article is written in a WP:OR sophomoric style. As editors @MarnetteD:, @Animalparty: and @Lapadite77: have pointed out, inclusion of Jude Quinn material in I'm Not There article would merely add WP:PLOTBLOAT and WP:UNDUE weight to article. Hello reviewer, thank you for leaving your message, I included all the references in the bottom line of the article, there are numerous references to choose from, is it possible of you could re-review it again? Also IMDb check all information edited there before they approve them, IMDb had approved the actor by researching or contacting the claimed departments where the actor had worked on.

Question / Request on recent edit

To User:Gbawden (from CwikiB51, Veteran of the 554th Eng Bn Vietnam 1970)

Dear Gbawden,

I received an email (pasted below) stating that the User Gbawden had reviewed the page at, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/554th_Engineer_Battalion_(Vietnam)

Basically you've linked (moved it) to, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/554th_Engineer_Battalion_(United_States)

We have no problem with the move / link. However when I viewed the Vietnam segment of the United States page, and in fact the "whole" page, it appears the link to the 554th Virtual Wall of all those killed in Vietnam in 554th has been deleted. I could not find it anywhere. We really feel this is not respective of those that gave their lives in the duty of the 554th in Vietnam.

I would like to request that you please put that link (included below) back in the Vietnam Segment of the page or at the very least in an appropriate location on the page so that it can be seen by those reading the page. It is those we (of the 554th) honor even more than those of us who survived. I cannot understand why anyone at Wiki would leave this out, and I'm sure it was an oversight and not intentional. Sincerely CwikiB51, Honorably Discharged, E-4, Company C, 554th Eng Bn Vietnam 1970 This is the link we need put back in, http://www.virtualwall.org/u-army/554thengbn.htm

Bikram Yoga NYC

Hi Gbawden - Thanks so much for your message and editors note about why our submission was rejected. It's 100% not to be read like an advert, but we're brand new to Wikipedia so please bare with us. Do you recommend not linking to the website? Bikram Yoga NYC is the #1 in the United States out of nearly 1000 (perhaps the world). It's also the oldest in the United States, and the largest. It has significant history, is very notable and has more than 50 articles from major television, print and online media about milestones and events. We're trying to document some of this history and create an entry for people worldwide studying this linage of yoga can learn more about the significant history of the practice. Notably its partnered with the United Nations and held classes in Times Square that over the course of a day saw over 35,000 people practice. All of which is documented in great detail. With that background, do you have any suggestions for us that might allow the entry to pass inspection? Getting as far as we did was challenging enough and we got errors when uploading a graphic. If you have any insight for the entry, any at all, please let me know. Perhaps there's a minimum number of citations to certify it's notability or significance? Perhaps there's a particular source you'd want us to cite? Whatever you suggest we'd be happy to oblige by. Many thanks in advance for your assistance. Namaste! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bikramyoganyc (talkcontribs) 14:23, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

I don't think this article is WP:CSD#A7. There's a number of sources, and I suppose that $50 million is a claim of significance. It may or may not pass AFD if you want to go that route. shoy (reactions) 13:48, 22 July 2016 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of D'Niel Strauss

Hi, would you please reconsider the speedy deletion of D'Niel Strauss? I've edited some pages a few years back and only got time now again to help and contribute. I stumbled upon Rolene Strauss and thought it would be good to also have a page for her husband. I have no relation to them, but it is quite demotivating to have ones contribution marked for deletion even when adhering to all policies, following the article creation wizard and everything. I can't see how it can do any harm staying on Wikipedia. Many spouses of famous people have articles. --Hugmin42 (talk) 12:09, 4 August 2016 (UTC)

13:42:05, 8 August 2016 review of submission by MatthewThomasG

Hi there,

Thanks for taking a look at my draft article. I've not written one before so am a little unclear on a few guidelines. Could I just check what exactly is required for verification of the notability of a subject. Richard Gardner has been knighted, awarded an honorary doctorate by Cambridge, has chaired a variety of Royal Society committees, has been published in a number of world-renowned scientific journals (including Nature) and has won a number of prestigious international prizes for his research. These are all mentioned in the article, so what would need to be added to show that he is notable enough? Funnily enough, considering he has worked all his life in the UK, he actually has a wikipedia article written by someone in German, but nothing in English. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_L._Gardner Would adding the external links in this article be a good idea, perhaps? Sorry if this is a stupid question. I have been reading through the help and advice articles but am a little confused as to what needs adding. Many thanks, MatthewThomasG (talk) 13:42, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

I respectfully disagree with the reason for declining the draft article I submitted yesterday (entitled "Draft:Piragal Thiru"). The candidate has been and continues to be written about extensively in both mainstream Canadian and local press and responds to daily media requests. Some of those sources have been provided, but I am happy to provide additional mainstream media article links as references, if that would be helpful.

People are actively conducting research about the candidate and should be able to use Wikipedia as a resource to aid them in that process, especially given that one of his opposition candidates has a Wikipedia page - given that reality, it could be said that bipartisan impartiality and the public interest would be enhanced, rather than detracted, if this candidate had a Wikipedia page created before the election.

Please let me know if there are additional sources I can provide or amendments I can make to the text that will alter the decision making in this case.

Thank you for reviewing the submission for the Jefferson Barracks Telephone Museum. We are a new museum that opened May 4, 2016 and we have an extensive collection of telephones, telephone-related memorabilia, tools, equipment et al.

Could you please clarify the requirement of reliable sources as it relates to the Jefferson Barracks Telephone Museum? In the submission there were several reliable, independent resources listed in the document submitted. The Webster-Kirkwood Times newspaper article was written by one of their reporters and the accompanying photographs were taken by one of the newspaper's photographers. An NBC affiliate, KSDK Channel 5 in St. Louis, has a daily weekday show called Show Me St. Louis. One of their hosts, Dana Dean, spent a couple of hours at the museum interviewing two of our directors. The resulting segment has been replayed several times since it was originally aired.

An article regarding the museum is scheduled to appear in the September 2016 issue of the St Louis Magazine (a monthly magazine highlighting interesting people and things to see and do in the St. Louis metropolitan area) and in an upcoming issue of the RiverFront Times, a weekly newspaper distributed throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area. In addition to the above media, the building housing the museum was discussed in the 2009 Jefferson Barracks Master Plan which recommended creating a museum district in Jefferson Barracks Historic Park.

In looking at several pages highlighting St. Louis attractions currently appearing on Wikipedia, it appears the references provided for these pages range from none to three. For example, the Lemp Neighborhood Arts Center has 0 references, the Campbell House Museum and the Mildred Lane Kemper Art Museum only have one reference each and the Chatillion-DeMenil House has three references. The Jefferson Barracks Telephone Museum Wikipedia submission has many more references than these active pages so I'm at a loss as to why additional independent references are being requested.

I know you are very busy editing other Wikipedia page submission and I appreciate any feedback you can provided.

Hi,

I have submitted this article a number of times and am finding it difficult to assess which references constitute 'known news sources' and which do not. I have read the wikipedia guidelines on this. For example the 'Discogs' website has been deemed unsuitable as it uses crowd sourcing. I have other options and plenty of information but the reviewer on this occasion has failed to supply which references need more further citation or better sources and which are considered satisfactory. In short I am unclear as to which areas of the article needs improvement and which does not.

Any assistance given will be gratefully received

Many thanks

This submission's references do not adequately show the subject's notability. Wikipedia requires significant coverage about the subject in reliable sources that are independent of the subject—see the general guideline on notability and the golden rule. Please improve the submission's referencing (see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners), so that the information is verifiable, and there is clear evidence of why the subject is notable and worthy of inclusion in an encyclopedia. If additional reliable sources cannot be found for the subject, then it may not be suitable for Wikipedia at this time.

Hi Gbawden,

I am wondering if you could give me a little more guidance on the feedback above you gave regarding the declined submission of the BSME article.

The proof of notability provided in the form of general references for the article are all (with the exception of the official BSME website) independent of the subject of the article (BSME): they are secondary sources, coming from notable publications who are either celebrating an employee's success in the running for a BSME award or reporting on an event hosted by the BSME. If these sources cannot be considered reliable, would you be able to tell me what sort of sources would be required to successfully submit the article in this particular case.

Many thanks in advance,

Hello Gbawden,

  1. Thank you for your comments and prompt response.
  2. I am not requesting a re-review. Yet.This is the template that popped up when I clicked on 'Ask the reviewer'.
  3. I've a couple of questions though since I don't think I understood the notability criteria even after going through the link you gave (I went through the article at that link before creating my article and also read several articles on other books in same category, but it is not clear):
  • There is a course on Coursera (A Life of Happiness And Fulfillment) based on the book that has 100,000 learners (maybe more by now) enrolled. Would this make a difference to notability?
  • Would you please suggest a book in Wikipedia in the psychology or positive psychology genre that meets the notability criteria so I can get an idea of what I've to look for?
  • Referring to your comment 'Remove the chapter summary. Notability not established' - Is the chapter summary also connected to notability? Can I make it better in any way?
  • For how long will this draft remain in Wikipedia after being declined? If I copy this article to my sandbox, how long will it remain there?

Thanks, --Roshni Kanchan (talk) 10:17, 12 October 2016 (UTC)

Hello - my original creation of the page on 'David Scharff' had only references to Wiki articles. It was rejected for lack of reliable sources so I created numerous links within the article to many reliable sources; publications, IMDB, discography pages, record label pages; all providing outside verification of the text. Your comment was that "Draft has no references at all." I had removed all footnotes from the first draft in favor of in context links. If this is not acceptable can you advise how to best cite the outside verification links? Should I just have the outside links as references and not embed them?

hey, can you help a bit further?

I tried to add https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Danny_Devriendt , in my quest to put some notable Belgians on the Wikimap. You rejected it for being too promotional (I can tweak that language), and, does not adequately show the subject's notability... here I am more confused, as the subject is very notable in Belgium, and has notability abroad. I notice that e.g. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Hinssen , a fellow Belgium did pass on notability. How can I remediate? Any tips? New Page Review needs your help

Hi Gbawden,

As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).

Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.

Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.

It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

17:42:10, 21 November 2016 review of submission by Ron Boat

Sirs, references to personal and business websites have been removed per your suggestion. The blog is certainly a 3rd party verification of the work of Mr. Boat as is the Google+ reviews by professional third parties. The client feedback page has been removed although it too is certainly verification of professional status and reputation within the production industry by third party professionals.

Existing verification sources seem to be as legitimate as those of actors which use a list of performances and the IMDB site which itself is editable by listed personnel. we know it's probably tougher but hard copies are available of things listed.

We appreciate your reconsideration and suggestions

I have tried to put an article for Guy in the Sky Pictures and was rejected on the 6th November by you and I have attached more references. Guy in the Sky Pictures is veteran Indian filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor's boutique production house and after their first mainstream Indian film called Fitoor, they are working on several ideas and projects and is currently the hottest independent studio in Mumbai. I request you to accept my resubmission in favor of that. Regards

Could you please re-check I have added some references. Draft: Aldo Järvsoo — Preceding unsigned comment added by Teravpliiats (talkcontribs) 10:09, 21 November 2016 (UTC) --Teravpliiats (talk) 20:04, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, Gbawden. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

New Page Review - newsletter

Hello Gbawden,
Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 816 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.
Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Second set of eyes

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work. Read about it at the new Monitoring the system section in the tutorial.

Getting the tools we need - 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey: Please vote

With some tweaks to their look, and some additional features, Page Curation and New Pages Feed could easily be the best tools for patrollers and reviewers. We've listed most of what what we need at the 2016 WMF Wishlist Survey. Voting starts on 28 November - please turn out to make our bid the Foundation's top priority. Please help also by improving or commenting on our Wishlist entry at the Community Wishlist Survey. Many other important user suggestions are listed at at Page Curation.

File:John Dunville VC.jpg listed for discussion

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:John Dunville VC.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Files for discussion. Please see the discussion to see why it has been listed (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry). Feel free to add your opinion on the matter below the nomination. Thank you. BwanaHewa (talk) 10:11, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

I found the photograph named John_Dunville_VC.jpg on 14 September 2004 when I was having a private viewing at a museum of a scrapbook and photograph album that were compiled by Robert Lambart Dunville (1893-1931). Robert Lambart Dunville was the older brother of John Spencer Dunville VC (1896-1917), and I assumed that this photograph was of John Spencer Dunville. The museum photocopied the photograph for me and when I returned home I scanned the photocopy. Later I uploaded the photograph to a family history website that I run, to the page http://www.dumville.org/photo_pages/jd1896_pho.html and labelled it as John Spencer Dunville. I assume that the photograph was downloaded from my web page or from Google Images and uploaded to Wikipedia.

On 1 November 2016 I showed the photograph to the Assistant Curator of the Household Cavalry Museum at Combermere Barracks in Windsor. He said the cap badge was not for the regiment in which John Spencer Dunville served, the 1st (Royal) Dragoons, but for the regiment in which his brother Robert Lambart Dunville served. I believe the cap badge is for the Grenadier Guards. The youngest brother of Robert Lambart Dunville, William Gustavus Dunville (1900-1956) also served in the Grenadier Guards, and so the photograph could be of Robert Lambart Dunville or William Gustavus Dunville, but it is most probably not of John Spencer Dunville VC, as claimed by the name of the photograph.

No pages on the English Wikipedia link to this file, and I am not aware of any pages anywhere else that link to this file. I have uploaded a correct image of John Spencer Dunville VC to Wikipedia Commons: John Spencer Dunville VC (1896-1917).jpg. I would be grateful if John_Dunville_VC.jpg could be deleted from Wikipedia. BwanaHewa (talk) 10:11, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

Your submission at Articles for creation: Craig Anderson (2) (November 30) ???

I'm not sure why the software considered me to have been the creator of the Draft, all I *thought* I did was to change the categories by adding a : to them so they wouldn't pollute the mainspace category. You may want to notify the original creator.Naraht (talk) 14:42, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Dear Gbawden, why have you submitted a deletion notice for the article "The relationship between physical sales and digital downloads in the music industry"? The editor/author of this page is in a course supported by the WikiEd foundation and has made updates and corrections to the article based on earlier feedback. The article is well-sourced and neutral in offering empirical evidence to demonstrate a relationship between physical sales and digital downloads. Please respond with clarification. Specific recommendations for improvement would be helpful if you are going to mark an article for deletion. Thank you. Amyc29 (talk) 16:17, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

20:04:48, 30 November 2016 review of submission by MaxieDog

As a first attempt to contribute an article, my experience has been both rewarding and disappointing. The reward was discovering that there is much more information about this subject yet to be uncovered. The disappointment has been the slowness of my ability to learn how to get the information documented in an acceptable manner. Having been fortunate enough to hear this artist in live concerts during the 1960s, my reason for attempting the article on him had to do with his extraordinary command as a performer and his reputation as a teacher. There have been few artists in history who specialized in performing all 32 Beethoven Sonatas in consecutive weekend programs. I realize that Wikipedia must decide whether or not a subject meets the criteria.

The draft article has been reworked and is now at the point where I must ask if it is worth my time to continue researching the subject. If not, then I must at least thank the various editors who helped me with the project. MaxieDog (talk) 20:04, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

Defaultsort issue on newly accepted Cornelius Nooy page

Hey there, I am not savvy enough to get the categories on my page Cornelius N. Nooy to display if I change the edit you made to the defaultsort when you cleaned up the AfC (thank you, by the way). But you left the old defaultsort in place, and the new one that was created contains a typo in the subject's name ("Corneius"). Since there are two defaultsorts, the page displays red text at the footer warning me of the override. Can you fix the typo and the duplication for me so that the sort is spelled correctly and will still display the categories on the page? Many thanks, Finktron (talk) 12:02, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

Hello, you had declined our sandbox submission of Incognito Worldwide India Pvt Ltd for notability. My question is whether this was because there was not enough 3rd party magazines/ newspapers -- how many are required?, or whether you don't consider them credible, and if so, why not? This is the first page Iv'e tried building, so any input is most welcome so I can get better at falling within the guidelines, which i thought I did.

Hello, you said in your last message to me that "I don't believe that the company is notable - it is just another company." However, is notable beyond publications writing of them solely just a judgement call of the Wiki editors? I don't say that with any disrespect, I'm just new here and trying to better understand the parameters. When I read the notability rules and guidelines it says that the company has to be talked about in independent publications, and if a small company then several publications, which it is.

The mere serendipitous nature of its origin alone it what drew me to them in the first place, which to me makes it unusual and should therefore notable.

A New Yorker comes to India for 90 days to have a project developed by a digital studio there; that company procrastinates in the first weeks to deliver while he separately meets a couple of bright 20 year-olds, 40 years his junior, they develop a fast-friendship across age, race, religion and experiences, and a month create a start up to bridge digital work in India with USA clients, and the company is written about in independent magazines ever year since. Moreover, that it survives at all should count since 80% of all small businesses fail within 18 months.

It was selected Startup of the Month in 2014, Top 5 Most Promising Social Media Companies in 2015, Top 20 Most Valuable Consulting Companies in 2016, and its founder was profiled and interviewed in 2013 by Small Business Enterprise Magazine; he has also been CEO of several public companies and is listed as such on Bloomberg, was profiled in Billboard Magazine in the on-going saga of his purchase of Ichiban Records (via Fortune Media and Fortune Entertainment) in 1999 and the subsequent inter-company tug o war of the assets that ensued.

Thus I urge you to reconsider. And any concerns that the other editor you refer to has regarding promotional material, just let me know what it is and I will edit it out.

Hi Gbawden

Thanks for reviewing. Could you please give me some specific feedback as to which parts of the article were unacceptable so that I can address those points?

I do believe it is a neutral article and I have been careful to provide references for as much as possible. If the reference to the company website offends, then I can take that line out.

Any guidance would be appreciated. This is my first article.

New Page Review - newsletter No.2

Hello Gbawden,
A HUGE backlog

We now have 816 New Page Reviewers!
Most of us requested the user right at PERM, expressing a wish to be able to do something about the huge backlog, but the chart on the right does not demonstrate any changes to the pre-user-right levels of October.

Hitting 17,000 soon

The backlog is still steadily growing at a rate of 150 a day or 4,650 a month. Only 20 reviews a day by each reviewer over the next few days would bring the backlog down to a managable level and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
It didn't work in time to relax for the Xmas/New Year holidays. Let's see if we can achieve our goal before Easter, otherwise by Thanksgiving it will be closer to 70,000.

Second set of eyes

Remember that we are the only guardians of quality of new articles, we alone have to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged by non-Reviewer patrollers and that new authors are not being bitten.

Abuse

This is even more important and extra vigilance is required considering Orangemoody, and

  1. this very recent case of paid advertising by a Reviewer resulting in a community ban.
  2. this case in January of paid advertising by a Reviewer, also resulting in a community ban.
  3. This Reviewer is indefinitely blocked for sockpuppetry.

Coordinator election

Kudpung is stepping down after 6 years as unofficial coordinator of New Page Patrolling/Reviewing. There is enough work for two people and two coords are now required. Details are at NPR Coordinators; nominate someone or nominate yourself. Date for the actual suffrage will be published later.

March Madness 2017

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

Dear Gbawden, Would you please provide more specific advice on what items you would like to see additional references cited. I left many potential references out for brevity because most of the story of the escape can be found in books by Luckas, Dyess and Hawkins and others. I purposefully included the reference to the 110 regiment history because it is a little known source with many specific details of possible interest. Second, I was a little confused by cross referencing the suggested standards for military leaders you referenced, with names cited in the article (and other guerrillas e.g Ray C. Hunt who was also a sergeant who rose to command status in the resistance). For instance Ed Dyess, Jack Hawkins and Sam Grashio all have pages (as does Gen. Austin Shofner) however, they too were lt. Colonels and Colonels, not flag officers. Of particular note about Robert Spielman (Col) and Paul Marshall(Lt Col) is that unlike the other escapees, they stayed, by choice, to fight with the resistance movement and Marshall rose to command the entire 110th Division -which would qualify on its own as reason for inclusion as a military leader of significance. Than ks for you help.

Hi, thanks for the comments. Can you please point out specific places in the text in which I published opinions? None of this is my research but it is original research. Additionally, it is an ongoing field of research so I stated the state of the art until now including the potential objections raised by other scientists. Thanks.

Hi there, thanks for the review and the comments. From my perspective all the content on the page - and the references, are neutral and not written to advertise the business. I believe they are all factual statements, and links to places that Hamilton Jet has been mentioned online and in the real world. I have done my best to demonstrate the notability of HamiltonJet also, which is a widely recognised New Zealand brand/product. I would appreciate any specific examples of text you consider to be "advertising". Many thanks Silvergirl66 (talk) 01:10, 3 May 2017 (UTC)

Hello Gbawden,

Since rolling out the right in November, just 6 months ago, we now have 816 reviewers, but the backlog is still mysteriously growing fast. If every reviewer did just 55 reviews, the 22,000 backlog would be gone, in a flash, schwoop, just like that!

But do remember: Rather than speed, quality and depth of patrolling and the use of correct CSD criteria are essential to good reviewing. Do not over-tag. Make use of the message feature to let the creator know about your maintenance tags. See the tutorial again HERE. Get help HERE.

01:53:42, 31 May 2017 review of submission by Morgan USA

We were able to change the article to be fact based by referencing published articles from ESPN, LA Times New York Times and the National Geographic and removing any language that might be considered "biased."

Additionally we took cues from the Wiki article format of Oscar-nominated filmmaker Morgan Spurlock, who is an Executive Producer on Richard Yelland's first film, Floating.

To that end, we lead Richard's article with description of who he is and that he is best known for, the film, 12 Miles North, about a historical figure, Nick Gabaldon, which inspired the City of Santa Monica's annual Nick Gabaldon Day (the film and Nick Gabaldon are written up in the ESPN article referenced & the Annual event is written up in the LA Times),

By leading the article in this way, the reason for its being is clearly fact-based and based on creditable published sources.

We hope that you find these changes satisfactory.

Thank you for your initial input and look forward to incorporating more, if necessary.

I received a response that Charles C. Noble was " Not seeing anything to make him notable. Reads like a case of WP:NOTMEMORIAL" I'm not exactly sure what that means. He was an integral part of the Manhattan Project, developed the minute man missiles, led the army engineers in Vietnam, made a decision which might have saved New Orleans from a flood. Can you explain what I'm missing? I have personal papers from him through his family - is the problem that I am not citing them? Thank you.

My Article

I saw that you reviewed me and BlbAtp article and I'm terribly sorry but I don't know how to improve it. There are no pages JUST for Dinah so I made one myself. There is even a page for the Griffin who only appears in the book and one video game while Dinah has been in more not to mention an old British film called Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. I'm not asking for it to be submitted I'm just saying that I wanted to make it so others can find out more on her if they are doing research and need to know more than just 'she's Alice's pet cat' or 'she's a minor character'. Dinah Kirkland (talk) 13:09, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

Gbawden, that was an incorrect reason to decline the article. That is not a duplicating topic, the article Draft:Dinah Liddell (Alice In Wonderland) is an attempt to be much more than a list. The purpose of the two articles is markedly different. That said, declining the article is correct at this point, for not meeting notability. @Dinah Kirkland:, you need to have reliable sources to support the claims made in the article, and you need to show that it meets Wikipedia's notability guidelines. Currently your article appears to consist entirely of original research. I hope that is helpful to everybody. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 13:15, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

78.26 Thank you and I actually spent a week doing research to find out all of this. I read other articles on the movies and games. This is my first article and I worked hard to make sure I wouldn't be declined but I guess I didn't do enough. Dinah Kirkland (talk) 13:19, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

Great! I hope you took notes about your research. Where did you find your sources. As I told you earlier, please read WP:REFB, it will be of great help to you. With not sources to back up your article, it will never be promoted to the mainspace. 78.26 (spin me / revolutions) 13:52, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

78.26 Sources... would have to be from watching it since about the age of 4 but that's original research... However I found my resources from the list of minor characters like people have suggested and other articles such as Alice Madness Returns and America McGee's Alice, Alice in Wonderland (1951) and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland 19th century. I have also watched the old British film called Alice's Adventures where she appears for a moment. Those are the resources i have i guess. Dinah Kirkland (talk) 13:58, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

However I put it into my own words 78.26 and did not copy and paste anything but the names and times they were released. Dinah Kirkland (talk) 14:14, 8 June 2017 (UTC)

00:12:43, 23 June 2017 review of submission by Dixon hill

Hi

i have had a lengthy discussion on the talk irc channel about this and to be honest it just frustrated me with the lack of help except from one user

As i understand your concerns about the picture may me that the logo or "service crest" is copy-write

This picture was/is one of the thousands smiler images available on the internet,i thought it would be easier that just taking a photo of my own badge issued to me in 1987 as a member of the service, However i have been told that even a picture of my own personal badge would not be permitted as its the badge not the actual "photo" that is possibly the issue.

i would also point out they are many examples of RN service badges, unit crests on wiki. the actual design for the badge was 1963 under a royal warrent replacing the old mine watching badge (only the name was changed : the licence for my use of this ebmlem/crest can be found here

https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/584237/20170117_MOD_Crown_Copyright_Licensing_Information_Version_v0_1.pdf

Issued by Defence Intellectual Property Rights as Version 1.0, last updated 2017 Part 4:section 7

MOD will not interfere with the use of MOD badges and logos by the media in relation to news reports relating to the MOD. MOD will not interfere with the use of names, badges and logos in a drama about the MOD or military (for example, on costumes or props), unlessthe depiction of the MOD or military is intentionally and seriously defamatory.

===== People are free to use MOD insignia for illustration purposes. For example to include a regimental badge in a website such as Wikipedia for the purposes of describing in their own words what that regiment does. =====Free access to low resolution graphics of MOD badges or logos for use in a website for the illustration purposes only, can be obtained from: http://www.defencebrandportal.mod.uk/BMS/

And i know the enrty already exists it was i am trying to update the original, was advised to do it in sandbox — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dixon hill (talkcontribs) 01:39, 23 June 2017 (UTC)

As you can see wikipedia is cited in the document and permission is "free to use"

i Hope this resolves your concerns Dixon hill (talk) 00:12, 23 June 2017 (UTC)

Ok i am confused One of the images i uploaded was deleted "the rnxs lapel badge" even though as i pointed out to various editors "free to use" i have been trying to resolve that unexpected issue. But if i understand you correctly your concern is a duplicate entry ?

colour me even more confused , As an EX R.N.X.S member and with the full support of the members of the RNXS in the RNXS face book group it was obvious that the information on that entry was slightly wrong although copied from Navy.net As wiki wants user contributions to there artical`s with relevant, citaion and source and because they was very little information about the RNXS in it ...... Basically the whole thing needed re written and that what i am trying to do

You say its a duplicate of existing entry, however it is far, from a duplicate it contains lots more information with citaions and sources And isn`t that the point of WIki ,isn`t that it`s mission statement".

The mission of the Wikimedia Foundation is to empower and engage people around the world to collect and develop educational content under a free license or in the public domain, and to disseminate it effectively and globally."

Thats exactly what i am trying to do thats not duplication that`s illumination

i am trying to update an entry with more information

Dixon hill (talk) 07:01, 23 June 2017 (UTC)

Request on 08:02:00, 23 June 2017 for assistance on AfC submission by Dixon hill

i tried to edit it the first place and was advised to use the sandbox to create ?

So i created the one i submitted under the impression if it was approved for citations and sources that if it was not defamatory, liblous ect, contained updated information that it would replace the entry

And when does an edit become a re-write ?

if i edit the entry and just copy and paste my version (that still contains the original text)

Apart from the facts NOW added that where part of my discussions with the editors? on the irc channel. (pretty sneeky that ) is that acceptable ....IE edit the entry and copy and paste my version ,

Because if i cant create a updated page for inclusion in wiki ,or heavily edit the original entry as i tried to do originally, and then again with cited information and published sources this has just been a massive waste of time.

Ok this is getting silly and i am about to give up (recent edits not withstanding and i await your review) when i talked on the irc "experienced editor channel" i related information that has now been included on the wiki entry. who ever added the entry obviously did not understand a word of what i was saying and did not bother to check HIS/HER facts as it is completely wrong the line added says

These were mainly surplus vessels converted from other duties

===== Wrong The Loyals were purpose built in the late seventies by Richard Dunston of Thorn, south Yorkshire, as training vessels for the RNXS, they where based on a proven MOD/RMAS design for supply tenders ===== i cited that in my artical and referenced the builders

although 4 "P2000" tenders were custom built

This is also Wrong P2000 were NOT tenders as it says in his edit and on the p2000 page referenced ( they where fast patrol craft and 14 where built not 4 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archer-class_patrol_vessel

ALSO P2000s are Not tenders https://www.navynews.co.uk/archive/news/item/16145

"The newly-upgraded fast patrol craft"

 the rest is broadly correct

But do i edit it and remove the incorrect information ? with the proper citations ie an official published internet newspaper (sic) The navy news , citaion to dunstons who built the loyals that was included in the page i did in the sandbox

if its this hard to make contributions to wiki, and then have someone cite incorrectly information i have related to them as if it was there own research (or thats how it seems) i ask my self why bother ,

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello Gbawden, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 14304 pages. We have worked hard to decrease from over 22,000, but more hard work is needed! Please consider reviewing even just a few pages a day.
  • Currently there are 532 pages in the backlog that were created by non-autoconfirmed users before WP:ACTRIAL. The NPP project is undertaking a drive to clear these pages from the backlog before they hit the 90 day Google index point. Please consider reviewing a few today!

Technology update:

  • The Wikimedia Foundation is currently working on creating a new filter for page curation that will allow new page patrollers to filter by extended confirmed status. For more information see: T175225

General project update:

  • On 14 September 2017 the English Wikipedia began the autoconfirmed article creation trial. For a six month period, creation of articles in the mainspace of the English Wikipedia will be restricted to users with autoconfirmed status. New users who attempt article creation will now be redirected to a newly designed landing page.
  • Before clicking on a reference or external link while reviewing a page, please be careful that the site looks trustworthy. If you have a question about the safety of clicking on a link, it is better not to click on it.
  • To keep up with the latest conversation on New Pages Patrol or to ask questions, you can go to Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers and add it to your watchlist.

The editor/author of this page is in a course supported by the WikiEd foundation and has made updates and corrections to the article based on earlier feedback. To speedy & Unhelpful

The page Premier Cottages that you have applied a speedy deletion notice to was created only 2 hours prior, and is still being set constructed - I think a simply message in the first instance would be a more constructive approach if you have concerns. Premier Cottages occupies a large sector of the industry it serves and is hugely important to many people, it forms an integral part of an existing Wikipedia resource 'UK Tourism' that was lacking and whereas I see the page needs completing it does sit with the myriad of other company pages that make up this resource of information.

Please remove the notice. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bulverton (talkcontribs) 15:38, 11 October 2017 (UTC)

2017 Military Historian of the Year and Newcomer of the Year nominations and voting

As we approach the end of the year, the Military History project is looking to recognise editors who have made a real difference. Each year we do this by bestowing two awards: the Military Historian of the Year and the Military History Newcomer of the Year. The co-ordinators invite all project members to get involved by nominating any editor they feel merits recognition for their contributions to the project. Nominations for both awards are open between 00:01 on 2 December 2017 and 23:59 on 15 December 2017. After this, a 14-day voting period will follow commencing at 00:01 on 16 December 2017. Nominations and voting will take place on the main project talkpage: here and here. Thank you for your time. For the co-ordinators, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 08:36, 8 December 2017 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello Gbawden, thank you for your efforts reviewing new pages!

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 12713 pages. Please consider reviewing even just a few pages each day! If everyone helps out, it will really put a dent in the backlog.
  • Currently the backlog stretches back to March and some pages in the backlog have passed the 90 day Google index point. Please consider reviewing some of them!

Outreach and Invitations:

  • If you know other editors with a good understanding of Wikipedia policy, invite them to join NPP by dropping the invitation template on their talk page with: {{subst:NPR invite}}. Adding more qualified reviewers will help with keeping the backlog manageable.

New Year New Page Review Drive

  • A backlog drive is planned for the start of the year, beginning on January 1st and running until the end of the month. Unique prizes will be given in tiers for both the total number of reviews made, as well as the longest 'streak' maintained.
  • Note: quality reviewing is extremely important, please do not sacrifice quality for quantity.

General project update:

  • ACTRIAL has resulted in a significant increase in the quality of new submissions, with noticeably fewer CSD, PROD, and BLPPROD candidates in the new page feed. However, the majority of the backlog still dates back to before ACTRIAL started, so consider reviewing articles from the middle or back of the backlog.
  • The NPP Browser can help you quickly find articles with topics that you prefer to review from within the backlog.
  • To keep up with the latest conversation on New Pages Patrol or to ask questions, you can go to Wikipedia talk:New pages patrol/Reviewers and add it to your watchlist.

Greetings,

"Military history" is one of the most important subjects when speak of sum of all human knowledge. To support contributors interested in the area over various language Wikipedias, we intend to form a user group. It also provides a platform to share the best practices between military historians, and various military related projects on Wikipedias. An initial discussion was has been done between the coordinators and members of WikiProject Military History on English Wikipedia. Now this discussion has been taken to Meta-Wiki. Contributors intrested in the area of military history are requested to share their feedback and give suggestions at Talk:Discussion to incubate a user group for Wikipedia Military Historians.

Awards will be given in tiers in two categories:

  • The total number of reviews completed for the month.

Request on 09:39:53, 25 January 2018 for assistance on AfC submission by AnastasiaStefanuk

Dear Gbawden,

Thank you for your response. I saw an article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kindal_Moorehead and i saw that the interlinking (or referencing from Wikipedia) is allowed http://prntscr.com/i5bpe8 . So i followed the example and did the same. Also, please kindly advice, how can i use proper references about this lawyer, if there is no much information on the internet on it? But this is a real person and a famous one. They own a big company Chase Lawyers in Florida. I am sure, this will be a good asset to Wikipedia. Is it possible to publish an article without referencing? I also linked to their official website.

AnastasiaStefanuk (talk) 09:39, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

Good Morning Gbawden, I've read your notes about our submission and I'm hoping you can help clarify something for me. My article keeps being denied for improper citations. I'm writing an informational page about a theatre publishing company. I've used similar theatre publishing companies wikipedia pages as references while creating my page. I've used the same type of citations to cite my information as they have and their pages have been published, so why does mine keep getting denied? The type of articles I'm citing are the same type that two other publishing companies cited.

In addition, if you read the article I referenced that mentions "STRAIGHT" there is a paragraph in that article that says a lot of what I've put in the description of the Dramatic Publishing Company. I've included the paragraph below:

"DRAMATIC PUBLISHING is one of the leading publishers of plays and musicals, worldwide. We are committed to developing and serving the authors, artists and educators who comprise the world of theatre. We offer musicals, full-length and one-act plays and high-quality theatrical books suitable for high-school theatre, children's theatre, professional theatre and community theatre. Our catalog includes a spectrum of plays for every cast size, skill level and audience representing classic works as well as contemporary comedies, dramas and musicals of distinction."

So with that said, how are my citations not credible enough? I'd love some guidance in this as Wikipedia is very difficult for me to navigate. Everytime I click on a link that I think is going to help guide me all it does is give me a definition.

Thank you! Corcoran42 (talk) 15:02, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

Review Submission - K2 Geospatial

Hello Gbawden,

You reviewed my draft named K2 Geospatial and did not accept it. You've said that the submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia; needs to be written from a neutral point of view; should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources. In my opinion, these are policies that every contributor should respect and it is why I've linked more than 25 references to this article and also tried my best to write in a neutral tone. English is not my native tongue and I first wrote this article in French. In the French version of Wikipedia, the article is all set and accepted by the wiki community. In this matter, I would like to know why this article (in English) cannot be accepted, while the same text (in French) is already published. How can a translation be accepted in a language but not in another? Kind regards, — Preceding unsigned comment added by LeaBlanchet (talkcontribs) 19:47, 30 January 2018 (UTC)

Hey! Hope your day's been going well so far.

I've added some context to the page that was declined in the form of small snippets of information prior to each table provided.

As far as the amount of technical detail provided in the page, I will not reduce it. There are far more pages on Wikipedia with more technical detail and with less context. There's the Comparison of TLS implementations page, which is far more technical with much less context. Why should a page on the various implementations of TLS be accepted, but a page on the various implementations of MQTT not be accepted? From this, I would ask you to please reconsider my submission.

New Page Reviewer Newsletter

Hello Gbawden, thank you for your efforts in reviewing new pages!
The NPP backlog at the end of the drive with the number of unreviewed articles by creation date. Red is older than 90 days, orange is between 90 and 30 days old, and green is younger than 30 days.

Backlog update:

  • The new page backlog is currently at 3819 unreviewed articles, with a further 6660 unreviewed redirects.
  • We are very close to eliminating the backlog completely; please help by reviewing a few extra articles each day!

New Year Backlog Drive results:

  • We made massive progress during the recent four weeks of the NPP Backlog Drive, during which the backlog reduced by nearly six thousand articles and the length of the backlog by almost 3 months!

General project update:

  • ACTRIAL will end it's initial phase on the 14th of March. Our goal is to reduce the backlog significantly below the 90 day index point by the 14th of March. Please consider helping with this goal by reviewing a few additional pages a day.
  • Reviewing redirects is an important and necessary part of New Page Patrol. Please read the guideline on appropriate redirects for advice on reviewing redirects. Inappropriate redirects can be re-targeted or nominated for deletion at RfD.

DYK for Voortrekker (yacht)

On 12 February 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Voortrekker (yacht), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that despite being considered obsolete, the yacht Voortrekker placed second in the 1982/83 BOC Challenge, beaten only by a yacht purpose-built for the race? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Voortrekker (yacht). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Voortrekker (yacht)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Request on 21:35:38, 27 February 2018 for assistance on AfC submission by TomCost

I have added several more references for the article on the Airlift Tanker Association, most dealing with actions by the Association's local chapters. I realize that these are military related news organizations (Air Force News, Air Combat Command News) but the original article included several sources from a commercial newspaper. To be honest, when a governmental association gets national coverage it normally isn't good news (Navy Tailhook or GSA convention come to mind).

When creating the article on the A/TA, I first reviewed the existing Wikipedia articles for the Association of the United States Army and the Air Force Association. Although there are Wikipedia comments requesting additional references, both have been approved for publication.

Hopefully these additional citations will meet the requirements of Wikipedia.

Do I need to resubmit in order for you to review?

V/r,

Tom Cost

TomCost (talk) 21:35, 27 February 2018 (UTC)

The article Rakesh Bhadauria has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This is a duplicate stub for same BLP Rakesh Kumar Singh Bhadauria. Spotted the name change while doing a routine search.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. 11:26:36, 8 March 2018 review of submission by Kofi Akyea

Hello Gbawden:

Thank you for your input. Much appreciated . This is my first stab at a wikipedia entry so I am very eager to learn. The institute has indicated a specific focused area as regards sponsoring a specific curator to work on/ improve wikipedia records and entries on Ghanaian Senior Military and foreign service officers and key events in diplomatic / military history ( eg the mutiny of the 3rd Battalion of the Ghana Army during the Congo Crisis) . So this is a very key learning curve. I will review the draft aas directed and resubmit.

April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
  • updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

New Page Review Newsletter No.10

Hello Gbawden, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

ACTRIAL:

  • ACTRIAL's six month experiment restricting new page creation to (auto)confirmed users ended on 14 March. As expected, a greatly increased number of unsuitable articles and candidates for deletion are showing up in the feed again, and the backlog has since increased already by ~30%. Please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day.

Paid editing

  • Now that ACTRIAL is inoperative pending discussion, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

Nominate competent users for Autopatrolled

  • While patrolling articles, if you find an editor that is particularly competent at creating quality new articles, and that user has created more than 25 articles (rather than stubs), consider nominating them for the 'Autopatrolled' user right HERE.

News

  • The next issue Wikipedia's newspaper The Signpost has now been published after a long delay. There are some articles in it, including ACTRIAL wrap-up that will be of special interest to New Page Reviewers. Don't hesitate to contribute to the comments sections. The Signpost is one of the best ways to stay up date with news and new developments - please consider subscribing to it. All editors of Wikipedia and associated projects are welcome to submit articles on any topic for consideration by the The Signpost's editorial team for the next issue.

I didn't intend to write the Jasmine Sanders article to sound like an advertisement but why is Twitter (or any other social media for that matter) not a source if it's verified and the facts coming from their own mouth? These days, with most famous people, even respectable news organizations get embed tweets, Facebook or Instagram posts into the article to cite it. But also... in the Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood Wikipedia article, a Jasmine Sanders tweet is used as a reference. 🤔Trillfendi (talk) 15:56, 23 April 2018 (UTC)

Hi Gbwaden,

I've changed an inline source regarding the [2] reference to match the text.

Instead of linking the website of World Bank, I've linked the Lucent University website where the information about using the World Bank PPP is noted and the calculation for each country is done.

This is my first article, so any help and correction you provide are more than welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Thank you so much for reviewing my first article.

I changed the list of degree programs section by cutting all the specialization and condensing it from a list to a few sentences.

I tried to have the article content and format reflect the pages for comparable institutions:

NPR Newsletter No.11 25 May 2018

Hello Gbawden, thank you for your work reviewing New Pages!

ACTRIAL:

  • WP:ACREQ has been implemented. The flow at the feed has dropped back to the levels during the trial. However, the backlog is on the rise again so please consider reviewing a few extra articles each day; a backlog approaching 5,000 is still far too high. An effort is also needed to ensure that older unsuitable older pages at the back of the queue do not get automatically indexed for Google.

Deletion tags

  • Do bear in mind that articles in the feed showing the trash can icon may have been tagged by inexperienced or non NPR rights holders. They require your further verification.

Backlog drive:

  • A backlog drive will take place from 10 through 20 June. Check out our talk page at WT:NPR for more details. NOTE: It is extremely important that we focus on quality reviewing. Despite our goal of reducing the backlog as much as possible, please do not rush while reviewing.

Editathons

  • There will be a large increase in the number of editathons in June. Please be gentle with new pages that obviously come from good faith participants, especially articles from developing economies and ones about female subjects. Consider using the 'move to draft' tool rather than bluntly tagging articles that may have potential but which cannot yet reside in mainspace.

Paid editing - new policy

  • Now that ACTRIAL is ACREQ, please be sure to look for tell-tale signs of undisclosed paid editing. Contact the creator if appropriate, and submit the issue to WP:COIN if necessary. There is a new global WMF policy that requires paid editors to connect to their adverts.

Subject-specific notability guidelines

  • The box at the right contains each of the subject-specific notability guidelines, please review any that are relevant BEFORE nominating an article for deletion.
  • Reviewers are requested to familiarise themselves with the new version of the notability guidelines for organisations and companies.

Not English

  • A common issue: Pages not in English or poor, unattributed machine translations should not reside in main space even if they are stubs. Please ensure you are familiar with WP:NPPNE. Check in Google for the language and content, tag as required, then move to draft if they do have potential.

News

  • Development is underway by the WMF on upgrades to the New Pages Feed, in particular ORES features that will help to identify COPYVIOs, and more granular options for selecting articles to review.
  • The next issue of The Signpost has been published. The newspaper is one of the best ways to stay up to date with news and new developments. between our newsletters.

Free Lives speedy

Hello! In response to your speedy nomination for Free Lives, two things:

  1. The article was recreated by Maplestrip and vastly differs from the version that was deleted through AfD. This makes your G4 claim invalid.
  2. Maple previously held a discussion with the closing admin, Anarchyte, who agreed to the page's recreation.

Hence, please wirhdraw your CSD nomination. Regards. Lordtobi () 19:39, 27 May 2018 (UTC)

Notice

The article Alain Guimond has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not appear to meet WP:GNG. I can't find anything that makes Sgt. Guimond any more notable than any other military person of a similar or higher rank.

Thank you for your feedback. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Marydavia (talkcontribs) 15:35, 24 July 2018 (UTC)
