Just for future reference, even if there's a verifiability problem, please don't place the {{cn}} template directly on the population figures in city infoboxes. Because the infobox templates are coded to automatically transclude a comma-delimiter into the population figure if it exceeds 1000, it simultaneously breaks the cn template's "articles with unsourced statements from month/year" maintenance category by comma-delimiting the year — your sticking the template on the population figure in Dubrovnik had the undesired effect of generating the inherently invalid redlinked category Category:Articles with unsourced statements from January 2,019 (note the extraneous comma) instead of what it was supposed to be, Category:Articles with unsourced statements from January 2019. So if there's a referencing problem on a population figure in the infobox, you can't place the cn tag directly on the population number itself — you need to put it in the separate population_footnotes field instead, so that the template coding doesn't break the category. About that "great name in the theory of inequality" quote, the interviewer (Moslehian, I think) himself puts it in quotes in the interview, so I think it can be assumed (though not for certain) that he is quoting Pečarić himself. Although I think it would be better to remove that quote of a quote from the Josip Pečarić article because of the ambiguity.

Since you already touched the subject of Pečarić, do you not think I improved on the article a great deal? The article did not mention the fact he is really notable for - his holocaust denialism - before I got to it. I think probably everybody who was highly involved in the article before me knew about that (why even write the article, otherwise?), but I was the first to put it in the article ;) Notrium (talk) 16:37, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

"unduly focused on negative stuff and are therefore problematic" - I think the issue here is that you (as do I) perceive holocaust denialism as something negative. But please bear in mind these things while rewriting the article: a lot of people find his Holocaust denialism the most positive thing about Pečarić, and would not be interested in him otherwise; and that denialism (and more broadly his ridiculous writing, as opposed to his math) is basically the only notable thing about him!

Regarding the "great name in the theory of inequality" quote, I imagined that Moslehian (who is both interviewer and editor of that little-known journal) is quoting Pečarić on Pečarić being called such-and-such in US and German reference journals, otherwise we could find that reference journal that calls him "a great name in the theory of inequality", or even find a journal that acknowledges the existence of a mathematical "theory of inequality". But, anyways, that quote should probably be removed because it is ambiguous in the source, and also I am not sure that the source is reliable? Notrium (talk) 17:14, 6 February 2019 (UTC)

White Croats

As you are an experienced Wikipedian as well as more informed on the topic of Croats, would you join the dicussion at White Croats and revert the current revision? I curently don't have time and am really tired of explaining to the editor for more than 2 weeks that the term White Croats (Bijeli Hrvati) is commonly used for the medieval Croatian tribes living north of the Balkans which does not exclusively mean nor is exclusively used for some specific Croatian tribes located in West Europe. The majority of RS are ignored, including article in Croatian Encyclopedia ([1]), the Ukrainian and Russian encyclopedias & sources are partly ignored (see 'note' in previous new revision; sources in Rusyns#Origins as well) among many others. The editor simply refuses to get the point how are articles titled (common usage, not correctness), and is pushing to change its title, scope (i.e. title kept, but would only be about the 'West Croats' in Bohemia and near Western European countries ignoring there's scholarly dispute on the location provided in DAI to begin with and scholars often do not differentiate them, while created a new article 'Carpathian Croats' which is not common, and would completely mess up with information and bring confusion), structure and else.--Miki Filigranski (talk) 00:25, 11 July 2019 (UTC)

"Wiki values"

Thanks for writing the op-ed at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wikipedia_Signpost/2019-08-30/Opinion . May I suggest one change? You used the phrase "Wiki values", but a wiki is not the same as Wikipedia, and I think it's important not to encourage that confusion. So I think it would be much better if you changed the phrase to "Wikipedia's values" or similar. (The phrase "wiki values" is used later in the op-ed; I think that using lower case for "wiki" makes the possible confusion even worse.)

Thanks for your vote of confidence, much appreciated. I was worried my comment would come off as too apologetic and end up offending both sides. I think part of the reason for small group mentality is that our country itself is ruled by a small group mentality (as are most countries our size). See for example Inoslav Bešker's user talk. Can you imagine any public figure getting that kind of deference on enwiki? I do think though that on the whole this is a leadership problem, not a people problem. If we get admin conduct in line I'm optimistic we can gradually bring hrwiki up to speed on the WP:5P. If no one else, I'm sure we have enough viable editors on sh, en, fr, de... There is a dispute between me and another editor (Peacemaker67) about how to depict one of the combatants in infobox during Operation Kopaonik. They insisted to remove Yugoslavia and put Chetniks twice in one day (diff) and (diff) without a single argument presented, except that it is "ridiculous" when I explained that this combatant were forces were under command of the Minister of the Army, Navy and Air Force of the Yugoslav government-in-exile (diff).

Can you help with your opinion if it is really "ridiculous" to assert that during Operation Kopaonik forces:

1. of Yugoslav Army in Homeland,
2. under command of Yugoslav minister
3. in Yugoslav government in exile
4. fighting on the territory Axis occupied Yugoslavia?

The explanation is that it is a strongly pro-Chetnik POV and not neutral. You cannot argue on one hand that the Chetniks were heterogenous and therefore DM did not personally collaborate or have control over his troops that did collaborate and on the other hand claim that they were all under central command and control via DM and the government-in-exile. Are you going to claim that the Chetniks that fought on the side of the Axis during Case White were also representing the Kingdom of Yugoslavia? That would be an interesting argument. • that commander (Dragutin Keserović) of the unit which in this battle fought against Axis forces was awarded by the King of Yugoslavia (based on the proposal of the Yugoslav govt in exile against recommendation of Yugoslav minister) with an award given only in Kingdom of Yugoslavia at that time - the Order of Karađorđe's Star.
• The motto of the unit commanded by Keserović was dedicated to Yugoslav king.
• In period which more or less corresponds to period of this operation, on 1 December 1942, Mihalovic (addressed as the War Minister and the Chief of Staff of the Supreme Command of King Peter II) received a greeting from the Chief of the British Imperial General Staff who expressed his compliments for the wonderful undertaking of the Yugoslav Army.(Congressional Record: Proceedings and Debates of the ... Congress. U.S. Government Printing Office. 1956. p. 4989. The Chief of the British Imperial General Staff, pursuant to Yugoslavia's unity Day, December 1, 1942, sent the following greeting to the War Minister and the Chief of Staff of the Supreme Command of King Peter II to Army Gen Dragoljub M Mihailovich: In the name of the British Imperial General Staff I cannot let the twenty-fourth anniversary of the unification of the Serbs, Croats and Slovenes into one Kingdom pass without expressing my felicitations for the wonderful undertaking of the Yugoslav Army. Operation Alfa for FA

| Operation Alfa seems like an interesting article. I think it is worthy of becoming a Featured Article. What say you? I'm interested in nominating the article for DoYouKnow? as well. When it comes to WWII, in terms of "Today's Featured Article" or DidYouKnow articles, they are about massacres targeted at Serbian civilians. While the editor who nominated and push forth those articles is fine to do so, they seem to be motivated for one side of it for the public. Peacemaker67 seems to be supportive of that editor as well. Seems a little one sided...... But no representation of massacres carried out by Chetnik forces against Croats. In fact whole slew of major massacres carried out by Chetnik and Nazi German forces, have no articles for them at al. To which the wiki public is likely unaware. Such as Kninsko Polje massacre, Kamešnica-Mosor valley massacre, Drakulić massacre and Dotršćina executions. How does one go about creating them? In the article June 1941 uprising in eastern Herzegovina I found the following text:

• Professor Marko Attila Hoare states that the full-scale uprising resulted from the Ustaše retaliation against attempts of the Serbs of eastern Herzegovina to defend themselves, combined with the launching of the German invasion on 22 June

Am I right when I conclude that this statement presents the following order of events:

1. Serb attempt to defend themselves
2. so Ustaše had to counter-attack them
3. Serbs had to start full-scale uprising

I think this Jimbo Wales quote that was reposted on his talkpage recently very well explains my attitude (and probably that of many more one-time editors) to hr.WP:

The idea [behind Nupedia] was to have thousands of volunteers writing articles for an online encyclopedia in all languages. Initially we found ourselves organizing the work in a very top-down, structured, academic, old-fashioned way. It was no fun for the volunteer writers because we had a lot of academic peer review committees who would criticize articles and give feedback. It was like handing in an essay at grad school, and basically intimidating to participate in.

Edit waring and ethnic slurs

For the article Vladimir Beara, an editor Sadko, labels Croatian News articles as “Ustashe style articles” while edit waring with another editor. This same individual made a questionable edits on other pages before. Could you look into this? This person also made edits to the Chetniks page that seemed almost POV pushing. Alija Šuljak

Hi,

I just created the article on Alija Šuljak, one of main perpetrators of Genocide of Serbs in Eastern Herzegovina during the World War II. Then I realized that there is an article about the person with the same name on hr.wiki and linked those two articles. Now I see that article on hr wiki does not mention Serbs at all (except Serbo-Montenegrin attack on Dubrovnik in 1991) and that this person was welcomed in Croatia without being arrested at that time. In response to your response on my talk page: Up until mid 2019, his name and pronunciation was prefixed with “Croatian” and then an editor unexplained, changed it to “Serbo-Croatian”. My revert just gets reverted though. Another thing is that Britannica deems his father as “Croat though some sources state Serb”. I thought it was a good compromise but still it got reverted as an alleged strong claim with no backing. The irony is that I am being accused with POV pushing. I don’t recall sources stating that Boscovich spoke Serbo-Croatian or that his name is such. Nor that the country he lived in at the time spoke that titled language either. Questionable article.

Does this article Bookocide in Croatia seem legitimate to you? The sourcing looks off and article seems POV. Never seen the term “bookocide” before and a search only brings up this article. Mijo Bzik, a victim of communist purges

Sorry if I bother you with issues on hr.wiki. I know that it is the subject of your interest so I thought this might interest you. Mijo Bzik, one of the Ustashe leaders since the beginning of the movement. Trained in terrorist camp and participated in the murder of the king, came to Axis occupied Yugoslavia together with Pavelic and was one of the founders of the extermination camps of Serbs and Jews. After the end of WWII, he was put on trial and sentenced to death.

A few days ago you tagged a recent new article on an alleged Croatian entertainer as a probable hoax. This has led to the removal of several other pieces of garbage from Wikipedia. DS (talk) 06:34, 25 November 2020 (UTC)

CX contributed to that hoax article extensively, adding statements that were cited to sources which said nothing like what CX claimed, and including false metadata. CX also did this on a few other hoax articles on similar topics. As well, there was sockpuppetry; I don't know if CX was the sock or the sockmaster, but it doesn't matter. What does matter is that CX also did some work on legitimate articles, all of which will now need to be examined; for instance, CX substantially expanded the Stojan Matavulj article, but I found that at least some of the edits were cited to fake/bad/irrelevant sources, and so I reverted them all because none of them could be trusted. Hello again GregorB, The past few months I noticed an inaccurate change to Joan Massagué's lead paragraph. Unregistered users changed the first sentence from biologist to pharmacist. I reverted the first edit following PLAINANDSIMPLECOI but a different IP address made the same edit. I don't want to get into an edit war with an internet ghost due to my COI, but the change is inherently wrong. Could you help revert it back? Or what are your thoughts? Question on interpretation

Per this here with new content “ Ban on marriage to minor degrees of relationship imposed by the Roman Catholic Church was met with heavy criticism in the Croatian society of the time, which led to a schism in the Croatian church.”

Hello, I'm back on Wikipedia :-) Quick question - I've written a page on last year's flood in Zagreb. Do you think it's OK to name the guy who opened the dam in Trnje? It seems that the court case against him is still in process, so it could be a violation of WP:BLP, but his name is already mentioned in page titles of several sources, and whether he did it or not doesn't seem to be in dispute, only the legality of the act.
