VandalProof[edit]

Thank you for applying to VandalProof. However, due to possible abuse of the program, new users with fewer than 250 mainspace edits, users who have recently been involved in edit wars, and users with a history of vandalism are generally not accepted. Since you currently only have 35 mainspace edits, your application has been declined. Even so, please don't take this personally and feel free to apply again when you meet the above mentioned requirements.--TBCTaLk?!? 07:59, 26 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image deleted[edit]

I deleted the image because it had been tagged for speedy deletion due to its licence. It had been tagged as for use in 'non-commercial and educational' aims. However, this does not qualify the image for free use on Wikipedia and it was deleted by me. I apologise; whoever tagged the article as incorectly licensed should have notified you.

If you want, I can restore the article and you can tag it with GFDL-self --Robdurbar 18:31, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see that you've reuploaded it anyway with the correct licnece. If you use this in future, then you shouldn't have any difficulties. Thank you! --Robdurbar 18:33, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, sorry if I sounded a little harsh earlier I was just confused. Do I have to tag it with GFDL-self though? What I am getting at is that I would prefer not to completely release it to the public domain, but instead just for 'non-commercial and educational' means. However if this is not possible, I am defintely willing to completely release it. Also, if it is not inconvenient, could you please restore the images for the article Pakbeng and for the Ban Houayxay article, under the neccesary licenses. Thanks for your time! --Gregorof 19:48, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dawson_College_Shooting[edit]

Do you have a photo of the underground tunnel that goes under the college. I've seen you have already uploaded 3 to the article Dawson_College_Shooting. Hello32020 19:14, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, I don't. I couldnt get that close. --Gregorof 19:16, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Im a journalist at La Presse. Can you give me a quick phone call 514-350-4837 to talk about this current event article. I never tought that Wikipedians were that fast. Thanks

Hey, since you took those pictures yourself and have released them into the public domain, you should upload them to Wikimedia Commons, which is a collection of public domain images that can be used in articles (you don't have to if you don't want to, though). If you do, be sure to give them different file names to avoid conflicts. The images will automatically be transwikied here, so you can just replace the old filenames with the new ones. --Coredesat talk! 19:16, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure, thanks, I'll do that, gimme a bit of time, still working on the article. In fact, I'll do that with the rest of my pictures too. PS, if you are an administrator can you please see the earlier discussion on this page with Robdurbar. Hes been away and unable to do what that stuff. Thanks. --Gregorof 19:21, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I'm not an admin, so I probably can't help with that case. --Coredesat talk! 21:54, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Stubs[edit]

Hi Gregorof - no, it's fine to have up to about four stub templates on an article. What you didn't notice was that I remoed the SEAsia stub and also changed the Laos-stub to Laos-geo-stub. Since there's now a Laos-geo-stub it doesn't also need a SEAsia-geo-stub. You probably didn't notice because the Laos-geo-stub currently feeds back into both Category:Southeast Asia geography stubs and Category:Laos stubs - there aren't enough of them yet for their own separate stub category (there may be soon, the number of Laos-geo-stubs is growing quite fast). Grutness...wha? 06:44, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks then. Is there anything I can help you with project-wise? Im still a new editor, and am finishing up my wikipedia to-do list, and looking for things to do. Dont mind doing the nitty-gritty stuff, ie stub organizing ( I am definately a WikiGnome ) ... please let me know. --Gregorof 07:10, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting is always looking for more members - we'd be happy to see you over there if you'd like to help out! Grutness...wha? 07:50, 17 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nation_of_origin_user_templates[edit]

Hi your user page is showing up in Category:Nation_of_origin_user_templates and I don't think your user page really is a template :-) --AGoon 00:37, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No its definately not a template! Sorry, I have no idea how that showed up. I have tried going over the source of my page to see why its doing that by could find nothing along the lines of :Category:Nation_of_origin_user_templates . Im still kinda new and don't understand how else that would be showing up. If you can point me in the right direction, or go ahead and edit whatever needs to be, for me, it would be much appreciated. No idea why that would be showing up though --Gregorof 19:46, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Arrgh took a bit of finding! It wasn't your fault at all :-) It was because there was a fault in the Template:User Cook Islands so every body there was listed as a template (there were only two people using that template). While I was at it I made the template automatically add people to the Category:Wikipedians in Cook Islands (which doesn't yet exist, but someone might wish to create it one day when there's enough people to use it (just replicate another country's one) --AGoon 23:54, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I also note that your User:Gregorof/templates page results in you showing up in a lot of categories as "Gregorof/templates" as well as "Gregorof" :-) --AGoon 23:54, 28 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I will do my best to deal with that...right now in fact. I may come back asking for help.--Gregorof 00:23, 29 October 2006 (UTC)

This was sent to me... "67.162.54.244, why did you remove the text concerning some subject matter of letters? Please justify. --Gregorof 06:30, 5 September 2006 (UTC)" Here is my response... I believe this is in reference to the removal of a sentence from the page "letter to the Editors." The sentence added no substance and was pointed. I have previously worked for non-profits, and it is true that members of Non-profits will sent LTE... but this is also true for many other types of organizations. So to have a sentence in the page that was limited to PIG (public interests groups) and not qualified seemed erroneous. It was as if the point of the statement was to say that Non-Profits, and only non-profits, exploit LTE’s by having members who work for the organization write in often…

I have included a response on your talk page. Thank you. --GREGoroftalk 06:01, 16 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

GREGorof, Why was it added back in? I maintain that the point being made is unnecessary. For example, many types of organizations may encourage their members to write LTEs. It is similar the recommendation to “call your senators and representatives”. The fact that the LTEs are written by a group of people compelled to make change, does not change the value or validity of a LTE. Church groups, PTA's, and business' may do this also. To limit it to the groups that are listed is confounded. However, to list ALL the types of organizations that do this may require more research and many revisions. With this, i suggest that either a more exhaustive list of groups be listed, or that this statement be eliminated unless someone can give better evidence for why it is critical for the statement to remain unchanged. ~67.162.54.244

Your Signature[edit]

Hey there, Gregorof! I was lurking around in the template namespace and found the page Template:Gregorof Signature. Per this policy about template signatures, they are expressly forbidden by Wikipedia developers. To change your signature, just go to your user preferences and type your signature into the box marked signature (your original signature is <font color="#003399"><font style="position:relative;top:-3px">Ģ</font><font style="position:relative;top:-1px">Ř</font>Ę<font style="position:relative;top:1px">ĜÓ</font>Ŗ<font style="position:relative;top:-1px">Ó</font><font style="position:relative;top:-3px">F</font></font> → (<font color="#BDBBD7"> -T- </font> <font color="#BDBBD7"> -C- </font>) <span style="position:relative;bottom:2px">, so just copy and paste all that text into the box). Also, be sure to check the box next to "Raw Signature". Happy editing, and hope you have a great day. Cheers, Arky ¡Hablar Conmigo! 22:27, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference[edit]

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:51, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notification of automated file description generation[edit]

Your upload of File:Ban Houayxay.jpg or contribution to its description is noted, and thanks (even if belatedly) for your contribution. In order to help make better use of the media, an attempt has been made by an automated process to identify and add certain information to the media's description page.

This notification is placed on your talk page because a bot has identified you either as the uploader of the file, or as a contributor to its metadata. It would be appreciated if you could carefully review the information the bot added. To opt out of these notifications, please follow the instructions here. Thanks! Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi. I was wondering if you'd be interested in setting up Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Turkey), based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). Now it's not a contest in itself, it's designed to motivate people to inspire others to improve content and build something which demonstrates the hard work going into the country which is visible. The focus is more on quality improvements but new articles are welcome too. Eventually a Turkish National Contest could be created to fuel it, like Wikipedia:Awaken the Dragon, in which contestants can choose to keep the Amazon vouchers themselves to buy their own books for more articles or put them into book fund to help editors further improve Turkish-related topics by giving them the books they want. It will begin though as purely an improvement drive. If interested, or you think anybody else might be interested, alert them and sign up on the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Turkey talk page at the bottom. Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 14:12, 19 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:06, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The article Pot TV has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not meet WP:GNG. Generally more than one source is expected to demonstrate significant coverage and I can't find anything except trivial mentions. It appears the hosts are probably notable, but not the show itself.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
