Hockey

Antero Niittymäki

Hi! I found the great page on Antero Niittymäki you made, and thought I should drop you a line. I re-formatted the page a bit, to match the Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey player page template. If you're interested, take a look at the project pages. I'm going to start adding Antero's stats to his page, but before I do, I have to ask: do you happen to know how he managed to score an _overtime_ goal?? Thanks! -Elrith, 16.8.05

Niittymäki scored the overtime goal when blocking a shot. It bounced off the wall and into the empty net at the other end. The Hershey Bears are idiots, basically.
Thanks for formatting my page. I didn't know how to arrange some of the stuff which you found the perfect niche for. I added a link for statistics if that helps and if you haven't already seen it. We're both working on the page right now, lol.
Don't you hate when the official pages leave out the 'ä'?
Hazelorb

Let's talk on your talk page, or else this gets too complicated for me. =) -Elrith

No problem, I didn't know if you would see the link and knew it alerts you with new messages.
Have you seen http://www.phantomshockey.com/lockerroom/RosterDetail.asp?PlayerID=143 It has playoff stats as well. I would help do the tables but I don't know how to do them yet. I'm sure I could figure it out but by that time you'll be done I suppose. I mean, I know HTML but tables are always a pain in any language.
Hazelorb

No problem with the formatting; if you look at my user page, I've got a list of all the hockey player pages I've made recently, so I'm getting the hang of this... It's funny, just a couple of days ago I was wondering what happens if two people are editing a page at the exact same time. Now I know!

I saw the eurohockey.net stats; there wasn't much there. I can't figure out why they don't include the basic stuff like win/loss/tie record. We'll have to keep trying... You can check out the tables at Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey; there's a link to Player pages, where they have sample tables. I just copy from there. And you're right, I hate tables. But I can't think of a more elegant way to do this...

I still can't get my head around him scoring an *overtime* goal. Why was the net empty? What kind of lunatics pull their goalie on overtime? And how on earth did the puck make it all the way to the net through the whole rink? I'm just confused. =) -Elrith

First of all, like I said, the Bears are... Idiots. And of course Antsu is awesome. This article is probably the best explanation. I remember seeing that headline and just... Being shocked.
Hazelorb

Wow, thanks! I added a link to that article on the page; I think people will want to know... We were wondering whether Antero will get a shot at the NHL next season, so I decided to brush up on his stats, and just couldn't believe it when the Phantoms website said he had scored an OT goal.

I also re-formatted the sub-headings in Memorable feats. I figure this way it clutters the table of contents less and is just as clear. What do you think? As far as I'm concerned, it's your page, so go ahead and revert if you liked the previous ones better. Elrith

I never liked how it was cluttering up the Table of Contents... I redid the links section in the meantime to cite our sources better. But I didn't like the double indenting on the Records. I also think the TOC should reflect which sections have the most bulk, but it was ridiculous before. Thanks for the idea to format it that way.
I personally hope Antsu does not end up a benchwarmer for Robert Esche but if it does, at least he'll be on TV every other day. If he plays with the AHL at least he PLAYS. And I can get tickets and see him PLAYING. But at the same time he deserves to play in the NHL, and he will get to play some games in the NHL, because Philadelphia coaches don't let their back up goalies sit there for so long they turn into statues or anything.
Should this talk belong to the Niittymäki talk page? I'm not really sure what goes there. We are basically only talking about the page as we work on it.
Hazelorb

With your formatting I think it's pretty much perfect now. I'm going to see if I can find some of Antero's TPS stats, but I'm not too optimistic...

Me, I hope Antero ends up playing in the NHL as much as possible, because I can watch NHL games on TV, but won't see a single AHL match. =) And now that the Flyers have Foppa, Esche and Niittymäki, I have to say there's a good chance they'll take the Cup, or at the very least fight for the Prince of Wales trophy. Not that many Finns have a Stanley Cup ring... Jari and Tiki have more than enough, but apart from them, there's just Jerba. So we keep track. =) Incidentally, if Finland wins the 2006 Olympics (fat chance), Jere would make the Triple Gold Club as both the first Finn and probably the only one for a good while. Our national team sucks. Now if the Flyers only hired Teme, I'd order a jersey today...

I checked: technically, an article's talk page is for talking about the article. If we're going to chat about Antero, that belongs here, but the stuff about the article itself could also be on its talk page. If you want to cut out all the bits about the article and stick them on the Niittymäki talk page, go ahead, but I don't think it's really necessary.

-Elrith

Neil Little

Hi! I created a page on Neil Little now that he's playing in Finland, and found he's been a Phantoms goalie too. There's practically nothing there; I'm working on adding a stat table at the moment, and if you have anything to contribute, it'd be welcome. Elrith 23:18, 13 September 2005 (UTC)

I was wondering what happened to Little... We seem to be lacking ANY signed goalies for the Phantoms this season! How weird. I don't know too much about Little because Antsu played more games than he did this past season, but he is a good goaltender. It is too bad he never got his chance to rise up to the NHL.

Well, there's still time to grab a goalie or two. Our Finnish league, on the other hand, starts tomorrow, and our team just lost our #1 goaltender to the Bruins. Today. So our season opening game is going to feature a 19-year-old junior goalie, with a 17-year-old guy as his backup. Neither one has ever played in the league before. So you have goalie problems and you have goalie problems. =) I'll be seeing Little over here, so I'll try to expand the page a bit. Elrith 22:04, 14 September 2005 (UTC)

Niittym*ä*ki

I dropped by the Wikiproject:Ice Hockey talk page and saw your message and the replies. These people are astonishing. My last word on the whole thing is on my talk page. Congratulations for standing up against that nonsense. Their approach works well on the Internet, though; be rude and shout louder, and people will walk away from the discussion. If that's "consensus and convention", then I guess the Internet extends outside the world I've always lived in. You're fighting the good fight with regards to Frank, and I salute that. Elrith 23:02, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

The whole discussion is ridiculous. I don't even want to think about it anymore. I really am sorry on behalf of my country. Hazelorb 23:21, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
I noticed this on Elrith's talk page too that you two both mentioned "Americanization" when it comes to this particular argument. Don't worry there is really no need to be sorry on behalf of your country, since I'm Canadian, and Masterhatch, the user who brought the whole argument and is the main person who happens to be on the opposite side of your point-of-view, is also Canadian and lives in Korea or something along those lines. Although two of the others are American, there are two of us pesky Canadians in this argument, and we usually aren't too pushy on our views (that actually isn't a stereotype either). So please don't say this is strictly American pig-headedness, it would be more correct to blame the Canadians. P.S. up here in Leafland, we think Mikael Tellqvist is better than Antero Niittymaki, no offense. Croat Canuck 04:04, 26 January 2006 (UTC)

Wingman

User:RGTraynor's RfA

User:RGTraynor has been nominated for adminship; he's one of the militant "anti-foreign letters" squad on Wikiproject:Ice Hockey, and in view of his behaviour there, you might want to consider voting on his RfA at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship. Elrith 11:13, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Reading through his talk page, I love how the diacritics argument resolved itself - "I don't mind either way as long as there is a redirect" hahahahahaha what else can I say to that kind of quote. Didn't it get started by MOVING the Selänne page?? Oh, Wikipedia... I obviously don't check in too much anymore. I should update those stats, though. Hazelorb 22:20, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, well. I didn't vote against him because of what they think about diacritics; I voted because of the way he behaves about them. I'm not exactly a shining example of netiquette myself, but then again, I'm not running for admin. And when I checked, neither is he; poor RGTraynor is so disgusted by the politics of Wikipedia that he withdrew his nomination, and he and his friends are now complaining about how I was "campaigning against him" by soliciting your vote. Gosh, it has to be hard to live when you take life like that.

I don't drop in that often myself either, and only noticed the RfA by chance. I'm off to watch the Sens-Panthers game; I have money riding on that one... =) Elrith 22:59, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Lol! There's a Flyers-Devils game in half an hour, but since we're in the playoffs it will probably be a repeat of our last pre-playoff run aka they stop trying... Hazelorb 23:06, 13 April 2006 (UTC)

Well predicted... We got the Rangers game, which was great, but I still can't see the Flyers getting past round 1 in the playoffs. A shame, since nothing would be better than seeing Frank pick up a Cup ring. Except maybe Teemu winning, but that's a long shot. The diacritics "gentlemen" seem convinced that I recruited voters and used sockpuppets in the RfA. I guess if that makes them sleep better at night, why not. All this stuff has reminded me (again) of why I don't take Wikipedia too seriously, so I think I'm off for another proper Wikibreak now that just about everyone I support is out of contention in the world of hockey. Thumbs up for the Flyers, though. Elrith 11:57, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

I wish I had more faith in the Flyers, that's all I have to say. But, you never know. Phantoms last year were down 3-2 in one of their series before getting the Calder Cup if I remember correctly, so I guess anything can happen. I've got my eye on Detroit, San Jose, New Jersey...
I never take Wikipedia seriously after the little diacritics stunt that went on. I just ignore them and work on my pages and they haven't bothered me too much since it and if they do I just ignore them. Works pretty well. Hazelorb 22:18, 17 April 2006 (UTC)

Antero Nittymaki II

Hello Hazelorb. First of all thanks for creating the Nittymaki page. I too have created Nhl players articles (see Bob Murray (hockey player) & Dan Frawley (hockey player), fell free to edit them). Secondly, I wounder would you accept a compromise on 'Nittymaki', I'm against diacritcs on the English Wikipedia, however I'm willing to compromise. In exchange for the diacritcs throughout the article, would you remove the diacritcs from the Title of the article? GoodDay 22:15, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

Agreed, however 'Nittymaki's name shouldn't be diacritzed on the Philadelphia Flyers article. The Flyers don't use the diacritics on his jersey. GoodDay 00:47, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
Guess I'm in the minority. Consensus shall prevail, sorry to have annoyed you. GoodDay 01:19, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
However, consensus is to leave-out diacritics on the 30 NHL team pages. Those diacritics have been removed. GoodDay 23:49, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Compromise for NHL Euro/French Canadian Players bio articles

Hello, Hazelorb. Check out Krm500's compromise, at my talk page. I think the compromise is great. GoodDay 23:20, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Under Krm500's compromise, The Antero Nittymaki article would be changed, to have title in English letters. I'm hoping, Krm500 will put his compromise up for Afc on Wikipedia: WikiProject Ice Hockey/Player pages format. I don't want to see, the dispute (English letters vs non English letters, note- I didn't say diacritics) over NHL Euro/French Canadian Players (for that matter, all Bio articles on English Wikipedia) go to an Arbitration Committee ruling (unless needed). I too, don't like 'page movings' withou discussion. You should get in contact with Krm500, let him/her no of your ideas (possible amendment) to his/her compromise. Perhaps persuade him/her to put a compromise up for Afc, at (above mentioned) WikiProject article. GoodDay 22:51, 13 January 2007 (UTC)
That's an Rfc. GoodDay 18:50, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

Antero Niittymäki

Hey. You have done excellent work on Antero Niittymäki. I probably assessed it as Start-class due to the biography section, which needs a bit of expanding as it currently only has a few sentences about his (very long) professional career in Finland. Information about this might be hard to find though. I have reassessed the article as B-class. Keep up the good work. Thanks, Prolog 06:33, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

Hello

We've met before, on the Nittymaki page, correct? GoodDay (talk) 18:02, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

That page is my baby. Hazelorb (talk) 18:07, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

No it ain't, it's everybodies page. Seriously though, good to see ya again. GoodDay (talk) 18:12, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

-.-;; Not what I meant and you know it.
I'm looking into getting someone to step in to mediate this because it has gone on too long and the last comment directed at me made me cringe at the lack of respect for wp policy. Hazelorb (talk) 18:14, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
I know what ya meant; I was just pulling your leg. Also, seeing as I don't believe a consensus was reached to have/have no dios on English Wikipedia? 'mediation' is the next step (if we want to avoid mass page protections & mass blockings of hockey editors). GoodDay (talk) 18:23, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
I just posted a request for "what should I do" in editor assistance and if they say go to mediation then that is most certainly what I will do next. Hazelorb (talk) 18:27, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
Okie Dokie. GoodDay (talk) 18:35, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

Dj's reverts

I don't have any complaint on the Dj's reverts. I didn't follow the accepted process. Mediation may be the answer, as Dj doesn't want to accept the convention, external of Wiki to spell the person's name without the diacritics. Not even able to accept that it exists. Not good. Alaney2k (talk) 16:55, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

I really don't want to argue about the "convention" - there really is no solution or right answer, we will always disagree about diacritics. For now just keep in mind that the current compromise is still in effect and if people are unhappy then they need to propose something new and put it to a vote. Mass editing articles without consensus is not good or acceptable practice. I'd be content to stay with the current compromise. As long as there's no edit war or more mass editing then mediation probably isn't needed... now at least. Hazelorb (talk) 01:19, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Temptation.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Temptation.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Replaceable fair use Image:Temptation.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Temptation.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Garion96 (talk) 19:20, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi, you took the picture yourself but you don't own the copyright of the image. It is a derivative work of the copyrighted book cover. That's why it was used under fair use (non-free content). The book The Temptation of Saint Anthony however is a book in the public domain (published before 1923). An image of a pre 1923 version of the book would also be in the public domain. Therefore the 1992 book cover is replaceable. Garion96 (talk) 07:14, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
Yes and no. If you find an image like Image:Hetzel front cover.jpg yes. If it is an image like Image:Book.png then no. The first image has no creative aspect, the second image does. Therefore the first image is PD, and the other one has copyright (although GFDL in this case).
The image is perfect. You only forgot to change the image page to reflect the new image. I changed it for you. Garion96 (talk) 18:49, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

General Talk

Re: Hi!

Hey there! Sorry this took so long to respond to. ^_^ I'm glad you liked my userboxes, and I'm amused that you did indeed go out and get some. I had been worried my page was eye-rollingly unprofessional, so I'm glad someone enjoyed it. :) (When I'm a bigger contributor I'm sure I'll have more useful things to put there.)

Your pi digits are more impressive than mine! o.o My husband memorized 100 just to taunt me when we were dating; it was awesome enough that I bought him this shirt for his next birthday. ^_^ (As for the MS thing, it's actually my husband's brother's wife (so, the other girl who married into that family, who is awesome) and we just found out. It looks like it's going to be fairly benign, which is a huge relief, but of course we have to wait and see.

Thanks for dropping your message! It made me happy. :D See you around! --Masamage 16:38, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

Kousagi

Hi again! How've you been doing?

I thought I should let you know that over at WikiProject Sailor Moon we've been talking about expanding the Kousagi article beyond the limits of that one character and moving it to Parallel Sailor Moon. No information will be lost; it'll just blossom beyond a character page into something even more useful. :) Please join in the discussion! We'd love to see you there. --Masamage 23:58, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
