Complexity of matrix inversion and solving Ax = b[edit]

Thanks for your edits at Computational complexity of mathematical operations. They suggest that you might be able to help me out. The article currently says that the complexity of matrix inversion via Gaussian elimination is cubic. Is there a faster algorithm known? More important in applications is of course the complexity of solving Ax = b where A is a matrix. I seem to remember having read somewhere that there are also fast algorithms (i.e., faster than cubic) for this. Would you be able to add something on this subject to the article, or just give me some references? Context[edit]

Please don't start a Wikipedia article by saying "In a Lorentzian manifold,..." without first telling the reader that mathematical physics (or whatever context description you prefer to that) is what it's about. You can't assume the lay reader has heard of Lorentzian manifolds, but of course the lay reader has heard of mathematical physics. Michael Hardy (talk) 02:16, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You edited other user's "User:" page, but it is the personal talk page ("User talk:" namespace) where to ask questions. Link to appropriate talk page is present in a tab above the page, or in the navigation bar at left side of a wiki page, depending on a skin. Go to it and make a new thread.
